This was my first ever hot air balloon experience and it was pretty freakin' phenomenal.
If you live in San Francisco, I would highly recommend that you stay the night up in Napa prior to your take-off the next day. Trust me on this one.
Our pilot was incredibly knowledgeable and experienced. Apparently he spends half of his year conducting balloon flights in Napa and the other part of his year doing the same thing in Dubai. Not only does he have this awesome British accent, but he was eager to teach us about the history of ballooning and the mechanics involved in our flight.
Our flight lasted a little over an hour -- the air was crisp, the scenery was breathtaking, and our fellow balloon-riders was oh-so-friendly! We chose the all-inclusive balloon and full breakfast package at Meadowood -- talk about a great deal!
If you're looking for a professional and reputable business to select for your first balloon-riding excursion, consider Bonaventura. Awesome experience!!
Specialties
Bonaventura provides beautiful ballooning excursions in the Napa Wine Country, as well as internationally. It specializes in very small groups rather than crowds, valuing quality over quantity, and permitting more flexibility in pilot choice of launch areas. (Seeing backyards and congestion at FAA required altitudes over urban areas is not so fun.) Specialities also include private Sweetheart dates, weddings, elopements and commitment ceremonies. Elopement packages and Officiant are available, on the ground or in the air!
Packages also can include horse riding, bicycling, wine tasting, lodging, more.
In wine country "off-season" , Bonaventura specializes in international excursions in France, Ireland, Spain, Turkey, India, Thailand, Burma, Mexico, Chile, Argentina, Venezuela, more.

History
Established in 1984
Bonaventura Balloon Company began in 1984 in Napa Valley, CA, founded by Joyce Anna Bowen, commercial pilot., as an alternative to the larger, more crowded ballooning operations.
A combination of Spanish, French and Italian, "Bonaventura" means "good adventure".
Building from there, Bonaventura has had many exciting developments in Wine Country and abroad. Bonaventura Balloons, Inc., also owns and manages sister companies Calistoga Ballooning Adventures, Above and Beyond Aviation and Bonaventura Weddings & Elopements.
Expanding over 2 decades into adventure travel from Burma to Bhutan to Bolivia, Bonaventura remains committed to very small groups and personalized, quality ballooning excursions. History shows northern California winters mean rainy, unpredictable weather so the best time to fly in the Napa-Sonoma Wine Country is in dry summer months.
