I was on a family road trip to Reno and we decided to do some sightseeing around the area of Reno. Virginia City was among a few cities that we went through and we happened to be delightfully greeted with a very Old West town (or at least the main street was still part of the old west) at an altitude of 6,200 feet.

The parking lot attendant recommended this cafe out of a handful of restaurants there, so why not? We had to walk by this Chinese restaurant, which, in my book, isn't appealing at all given that I live in San Francisco.

There are two parts to Bonanza: one's a mini casino and the other part is the cafe. Everything in the cafe has an old wooden feel with its wood plank floors and old west decor. The casino is...a casino with simple slots. A couple of video arcade machines are littered on one side of the casino, but nothing for the modern video game player to enjoy. The one part of the cafe that you should experience some is the outdoor deck that they have. They claim it's a 100-mile view of the mountains, which is a decent sight to enjoy while eating in the summer, not the freezing winter.

Alright! Down to the food! We ordered Jumbo Buffalo Wings and a half order of Garlic Bread for appetizers. The wings did feel somewhat bigger than the average Wing Stop wings, so it pretty much lives up to its jumbo status. It was deep-fried to a crisp and drowned in hot sauce that's more sour than spicy. The Garlic Bread is buttery good, but it feels like it was only made with garlic butter then toasted for the crunch.

I opt for a Turkey Sandwich as my main lunch entree after I had one too many prime rib from the local casino buffet the night before. It came with either fries, potato salad or something else...(I can't remember). Now I'm not one for potato salad, but there's something about this one that tasted different. Maybe it's the air at 6,200 feet, or I was hungry, but I managed to finish the salad without gagging! I could taste a lot of fresh ingredients from the potato salad from the diced pickles and onions to the chunky potatoes. On top of that, it doesn't feel like its overwhelmed with mayo!

My Turkey Sandwich is your typical home-made turkey sandwich. Not a whole lot of mayo, which I appreciate, and a fairly decent amount of turkey meat. It is rather filling in conjunction to the potato salad.

I also tried the Clam Linguine that my parents ordered. The sauce was very creamy and there was plenty of clams and some bits of crab meat. The pasta was cooked perfectly! Not overcooked nor undercooked!

For dessert, my brother decided to tried their Bread Pudding. I say, "Good call!" It was served warm with a generous pool of chocolate and vanilla cream sauce, just right for the chilly weather outside! The Bread Pudding itself was soft, yet delightful!

This is probably my most random food outing, but that's part of the fun of trying new things! There were plenty of sights around this almost isolated town, but this cafe provided a simple, home-made meal with a warm and welcoming service.

This was a nice little spot to grab a bite while carousing around Virginia Ciy.  I had the grilled chicken salad sandwich, served on a crossant, which I was really enjoying.  It was a little heavy on the mayo but extremely satisfying (I can see myself craving it in the future).  My dining companion had the NY Strip sandwich, with an overpowering amount of carmelized onions, but alright.
