Chicken tikka masala + saag paneer + rice + naan = Damn good lunch.
Thank you. -

Get to the Chase:
Pros:
1) Great hangover food = greasy, filling, tastey, and decent portions
2) Good punch in flavor
3) Iphone app on seamless works like a charm...put your order and within 15-20 min it's delivered
4) Has special deals on seamless like 1 Entree 1 App + side of rice = $15
Cons:
1) DON'T expect quality food...extremely greasy and oily
2) Not at all like a true Indian food...it's been "Americanized" fast food style quick delivery, quick prep, quick cooking, high fat and taste with low quality ingredients and execution
3) Ignored my request for Raita on seamless even though I specifically requested it and it was supposed to be included automatically according to their lunch special -

(2.50 stars) Dining here alone, or for takeout, I've always found the palak paneer good, the lamb vindaloo passable and the naan to be nothing special. Service is cafeteria-style, and the place tends to be crowded. Lines do tend to move fast. The food is Northern Indian, and it makes for a satisfying meal-- although not a great price value when the amount of protein delivered is considered.
I was introduced to this place (before they changed their name) by an Indian coworker who didn't rave about it, but described the food as "good." In turn, I brought a new hire here on his first day on the job. While he was appreciative for the effort, he was less than enthused about the food.
With three opinions to weigh, I'll go down-the-middle with 2.50 stars. -

This place is insanely good. Tons of variety, with some items on the menu every day and others that change daily, which is nice if you come a lot and want to get some variety. Most Lower Manhattan restaurants are just good enough for lunch (salad cafeterias etc).
Long line moves insanely fast. When you walk in and see the line you think it's not worth it, and then a moments later you have food in your hands.
Outdoor space out front is great! -
Review from Corine P.
Not many Indian restaurants in the wall street area but I must say that they cater to you very well here. The staff here are very nice and always up for a friendly banter.
You can get a double combo + rice for around $8. If you don't want anything remotely spicy get the chicken tikka masala. I've never had a bad meal here as everything is always pretty fresh. I highly recommend the mango lassi if you have a taste for something sweet.
They just created an outdoor space in front so you can enjoy your meal outside.
Lunch gets busy but they have two buffet areas now so service is much quicker than before.
love this place! -
Review from Dave H.
For some reason, Bombay's cafeteria-style setup threw me off the first time I stepped in. It's not unusual or anything, so don't be like me and just get in line (there are two) and order! If you need help finding the lines, follow the crowd.
My favorite combo here? Vegetarian rice, saag paneer, and lamb vindaloo ($8; $10 minimum credit card purchase). You don't need tiger blood to eat it, but it packs a noticeable amount of heat. (If you follow my lead, the saag paneer helps neutralize it.)
If you need a drink, you want a mango lassi. Trust.Listed in: NYC FiDi Eats

It was originally named Baluchi's Masala but in the past year or so they changed the name over to Bombay's..not sure why...
My fave here is the Malai Kofta and garlic naan... I can't seem to justify paying close to 9$ for lunch..so I just spend the extra few to get just an order of that and can get two - even sometimes three meals out of it..
helpful tip - I always order through their website and they have it ready for you when you get there - no standing on lines to order!! =D -

It's a little too pricey for something that tastes more on the mediocre end. I also wished they had more of a selection (like salads or vegetables) since it is a very convenient location.

If I could, I'd give it a 2 1/2. As Indian food goes, this is very "average," nothing special about it, nothing bad about it. The prices are good for how much food you get - a huge bowl of grub for under $9 (as of 3/2011).
One thing they do that drives me crazy is, there's not enough room for all the sides at the counter, so they rotate them. In one slot they rotate between kidney beans and lentils. The lentils are my favorite side here, and I don't dig the kidney beans one bit, so it annoys me to no end when the lentils are out. The chickpeas, and the potato/cauliflower mix, are decent.
Everything is spicy, even the "mild" stuff; whether that's a plus comes down to preference. -

This place is basically an Indian-fast-food type of restaurant in terms of service, but the food itself is at pair with some other decent Indian places and the prices are pretty reasonable.
When I go for lunch there, it is usually crowded, but that's kinda expected at that time.
I like spicy food, so I usually get the Lamb vindaloo with chikpeas as a side and a garlic nan for less than 10 bucks. -
Review from Jando S.
My obsession for all things Indian lead me here and again my cravings lead me awry. I was tired of eating the crappy food from Diwa-E-Khaas and A Spice Route, so I decided to chance it here at Baluchi's Masala.
Folks familiar with the Baluchi's chain will see there is something noticeably different here. Though the menu is almost the same, the sophisticated decor is missing as is the consistent preparation of the food. Instead this feels like fast food, cafeteria style Indian, stuff that is more reminiscent of Curry in A Hurry (http://www.yelp.com/bi...) than it is Baluchi's.
I decided to go for takeout and tried their vegetarian combo (Palak Paneer, Aloo Gobi) with a side of pappadam. It was pretty bland, but somehow better than the other nearby Indian joints (not saying much).
Fast forward a few days later, I give the delivery a shot. The Aloo Tikkyas were a bit mediocre and the Chicken Tikka Masala was their one saving grace. It was creamy and the chicken was cooked just right, making it a hit when mixed with my garlic naan and basmati rice.
It's without question places like this aren't in the same league as Indian exclusive neighborhoods around the boroughs, but it beats not having any options at all. Ordering from or coming to Baluchi's Masala is already a white flag of settling for mediocre Indian, without bothering to venture further. -

I was looking for something to try this slow post-Christmas Friday, so thought I would give this one a go. Not too bad. I had the Chicken Biryani with some sort of spinach sauce. The lady kept asking what "gravy" I wanted, which being from the South had me saying "huh?" a few times. She finally pointed to the different choices, and all was resolved.
It was quite a large sized portion -- no matter how much I tried it looked like I'd never touched the thing. Oh well! Definitely lots of food for your money, and a nice change of pace from all of the sandwich/salad options in the Financial District. -
Review from Hank C.
Came here for a quick lunch to go since I was in the area. Like Mahua said, it's now called Baluchi's Masala, so not sure if ownership changed or not.
The combination (meat, veggie, rice, or 2 veggies & rice) was $8, and was okay... the mutter panir had almost no panir (paneer), and the chicken tikka masala had bones... I was disappointed in the rice (a mix of basmati and something else). Lamb vindaloo was spicy, but certianly not up to the standards of the normal vindaloo I've tried. Lamb itself was good, though, soft. The okra... okay, but cut up and mixed with random other peppers for spice, not really filling.
The garlic naan, for $1, wasn't bad, though. And they certainly give plenty of the sauce to dip in for your combination. -

Ok indian food if you're in the mood for a savory lunch. They also have some outdoor seating if you want to lay out in the summer time. They have a great lunch special, $8 gets you a combo platter +rice or naan. They have good chicken masala, and also have lamb too if you're in the mood. It's a good deal. I'm not a fan of having indian food in the middle of the workday, but if you like indian spices and flavors, it's definitely worth a try.

I love Indian food and I would go here two times a week but it's just not very good any more. I work around the corner and when they first opened it was great but it's been sub-par for a long time now. I go about once a month now but always regret it because I usually feel bad afterwards. Perhaps it's low-quality oil (and a lot of it) that does me in, I don't know. The people are really nice and the service is great but I don't think the quality is what it should be at this point. I would pay more for better ingredients. As someone else mentioned there are so many good Indian places in other neighborhoods it's a shame there are none in the Financial district. I spend $13 at Pret and Chipotle, no problem, because they have GREAT quality ingredients. I just wish there was a wider variety of healthy choices in the FD.

Fast food Indian.
The chicken tikka masala had a sour taste to it. The pics on the website make it look much nicer. I thought this was a sit down place! No, you just go up to the counter and point to food and they put it on plate.
Save your money and go somewhere else. -

I was surprised this is the only indian food place in the financial district. Still with the slim pickings in southeastern fare to eat around that area, i have to say this place is overall not too bad. During lunch times on weekdays things seem to be very lively as nearly dozens of people are lining up almost to the door for the buffet style pickings. My fav is the mango lassi (which is basically like a mango style milkshake). I wasnt a fan of the salt lassi tho, its probably an acquired taste. overall, fairly good i must say!

Seems like this is the best Indian lunch to be had in FiDi. Noticably better than A Spice Route over on Fulton, and don't even get me started on Diwan-e-Khaas
Lunch combo bowls for $8 (1 meat and 1 veg over rice). For $1 you can get Naan or 2 Papadam. The Chicken Tikka Masala is decent. Not great, but decent. That description pretty much covers everything else I've tried there too. However, I do think their Saag is better than their Channa Masala.
They also have a nice selection of Lassi drinks, bottled India soda (Thumbs Up and Limca), and bottled Indian beer.
Water Refill Meter: N/A
While they have table clean up service, they only sell bottled drinks.Listed in: FiDi Lunch Options

The food is very good and always consistent! They are usually over staffed (if that's possible) so the place runs like a well oiled machine. Cafeteria style but the dishware is large and stylish. I usually get Chicken or Lamb, they use quality meats which they cook to perfection and the naan is always served fresh and hot. The have 2 large AC ceiling units but are fickle about using them, I broke a sweat eating today because they tried to ventilate the place with one open door ...maybe that's how they turn tables? Lunch cost me $15.45 for a bottle of water, garlic naan, 4 pieces of tandori chicken w/basmati rice and 2 veggies (bean sprouts and cauliflower/ broccoli) all of which I really enjoyed except the price. I find Indian people are generally very hospitable, hard working and well composed as reflected by the staff at Bombay.

Wandering around looking for Cafe Doppio (which I never found...), I stumbled upon a sign for Baluchi's. I was confused, because I was pretty sure that Baluchi's wasn't so far downtown, and even more confused when I entered and saw signs for American Masala. But good thing I poked my head in, because the $8 lunch special is more belly-filling per cost paid than a lot of other lunch options nearby.
I got chicken tikka masala (so predictable, I know), spinach, rice, and a naan-- the spinach was so so, more butter flavored than spinach, but the CTM was a very generous ratio of chicken to "gravy" (another point of confusion. Why call it gravy?). I opted to sit outside instead of in the crowded seating area, and promptly dumped gravy on my jeans... there would be worse things to dump on oneself-- the CTM was actually very good-- but my jeans did not concur. The naan was a little mushy, but it did its job scooping up gravy.
Anyway, long story short, if you work in the area, this is definitely a good lunch option! Gravy gravy gravy! -

What's not to like about this place? Huge, spicy, flavorful portions of classic Indian dishes served up piping hot for $8! Loves it.

I know how real good indian food tastes like. And this place doesnt offer that kind of Indian food. However I want to say that the food is decent and fresh. Chicken Tikka Masala is okay. Saag is better. Channa Masala is not the best. A decent lunch place for a quick bite in the financial district.
During lunch time, expect it to be crowded.
Dont be surprised if you feel like going to the rest room after eating here (especially the lunch combo) -

The non-Vegetarian Combo which choice from Chicken Tikka Masala, Chicken Curry or Lamb Vindaloo & one vegetable. I found this place is OK for lunch. A little too much for the quality of food because of the location.
There are two lines in this place, however everybody want to use the line that next to the drinks even the other line is open.
Also, I saw few hotties at the location. I means hot hot hot, not the foods. U know -

Finally a frigging good Indian restaurant for lunch in the Financial district ! I am sick of the watered down masala of Diwan-e-Khas so ate there like once in 3 months if that much! Well, I have eaten here twice this week already !!!
KILLER COMBO: Samosas and the Batata wadas( for the Mumbai ppl like myself ) ( A BUCK each !!!! OMFG) aka. Aloo bondas for the rest of India aka. Potato dumplings ( for my non-desi friends :-) are off da hook ! Evenly spiced and well cooked. Additionally the side chutneys ( green coriander/ sweet tamarind) are good too. yum yum !
What I like about this place
* The interiors are decent !
* restaurant has decent number of tables
* Staff is semi-intelligent and knows a thing or 2 about crowd control and moving the line along. I was part of a 15 person lunch line !
* they play modern lounge music ( desi)
* They have a full menu of sides and desserts so there is a CHOICE !
* The Place is nice and CLEAN ! ( its a new place but I'll take it while I get it)
* Awesome lunchbox ( i had the chicken Tikka Masala with rice and a veggie side chana masal for $ 8) The rice was actually good with some cooked onion ( biryani style ) in the rice. The chicken was suprisingly good and tender and the gravy was yummy.
Their raita is good and comes in an awesome portion ( i'm tired of watered down thimble sized portions of raita)
Downer: I tried the Chkn Kati Roll Wrap ---dont waste your time here, stick with the regular lunchbox dishes. The kati roll is not authentic; they tried to get all F*ing cute and do some fusion nonsense.
Next dish up into mah belly: I'm going to try their Chkn Biryani (looks good) with the raita ( which is deffi good) -

this place is good for quick bite... line may be long but goes fairly fast... seems like a lot of natives come here so that means something at least.
ok for the value and the options offered here its a pretty good deal... they give u a ton of meats (paneer, lamb, chicken), 2 veggies, and rice all for 8 bucks... the lamb in curry sauce looked really good... the paneer looked ok... the chicken looked dry.
my kati roll tasted more like a burrito than paratha which was a lil disappointed
and my super sweet indian candy dessert thing was alrite but could have been crispier... starts with a j i forget wat its called.
i guess next time i would come back here for the rice dishes... -

would definitely go back if the prices were more decent. $12 for lunch is too much for my budget!
This is definitely not related to the Baluchi franchise restaurant! This is separate and on it's own, even the web link is different!
I got the combo and was immediately wow by one bite into the chicken tikka masala. The dish wasn't really authentic Indian, but it definitely suited my taste. The chicken tikka masala didn't have any spice at all, the sauce was very creamy, and the chicken was very tender and not dry at all.
The mango lassi i had was also very good. A bit thick although I can't complain about that since it means that they're not skimping on the mango ingredient. Though I do wish they had a small size to offer. That would have been the perfect size for my meal.
The potato and cauliflower was also very good though my portion had way too much potato and hardly any cauliflower. I ate all the cauliflower and three out the rest. -

Review from Diane P.
good place to grab and go a quick Indian lunch box. The staff is super efficient in preparing your box but aren't very helpful in telling you your choices (no words, just vague pointing). The cashier was super nice and friendly. This is a cafeteria style place so don't walk in expecting any kind of table service. The food is decent and will be sure to satisfy your chicken tikka masala craving for the time being (in my case, until I have time to make it over to Brick Lane). The portions are a good size for lunch - I finished about half of it and will probably eat the other half for dnner. The prices are standard- I used the $7 for $10 instant groupon deal today for their lunch special and saved about three bucks. A lot of people seem to dine in, but when the weather is nice there's also a lot of outdoor seating in the general area as well. To sum up, if you're in FiDi and fnd yourself craving soe Indian food around lunchtime but don't have time to sit and dine in at a restaurant, stop by bombay and pick up a lunchbox that will hold you over until you have time to go to your go-to Indian place of choice.

I just came out of this restaurant, it was jam pack, starting the line from the door, just for there entrees, if you have down time come down try the chicken curry or chicken tikka make in yogurt and spices, chicken is cut in chunks, and the chicken curry, make with bones chicken make in spices and curry sauce. that that make your mouth water, check it out.

WALL STREET, NY
This places get really crowded during lunch time, so be prepared to wait for a long time. I am not a big connoisseur of Indian cuisine, but I decided to give this place a try because a bunch of my coworkers were heading there. I asked for the least spicy item they had which they directed me to a kebob-like looking chicken, which I proceeded to order with rice. The chicken was cooked just right - it was tender and juicy. My meal came out to $11, a bit pricey just for lunch. But hey, what do you expect in FiDi? It it weren't for the long lines, I would go back again.

Brooklyn, NY
I have been going here whenever I work in the area for over three years and todays meal was my last here.
It used to be a simple, tasty lunch spot, even though it was a bit pricey for what you got. But today was the last straw.
I ordered the one meat-one veggie combo bowl. In the meat portion (shrimp curry) I got a ton of red and green chopped up peppers and ONE shrimp. To top it off the Alu Gobi was totally devoid of flavor, just hot pepper taste and finally the rice was wet and runny and cold.
All that for $10.20 tax included.
I say avoid this place at all costs. There are plenty of other places to eat around that area. One star is one too many. -

What FiDi lacks is a good sit-down Indian place... maybe one with a nice buffet and a tablecloth. So what to do? One option is the various DEK outposts on every other block, which are ok but that's another review. The clear winner for me is Baluchi's. While the menu is quite limited (though not more than the other FiDi places) it's all really good. And you get a nice generous portion for the combo - and bonus points since they serve it in a bowl instead of the triple-compartment Styrofoam! Food in a bowl HAS to be good. The seating is kind of tough since the place is always packed (but that's a good sign right?). I always end up sitting at the counters running along the wall. I've no real insight to share about what to order... chicken tika masala, good... lamb vindaloo, good ... saag paneer, good... but now we're like 60% of the way through their menu. Their "medium" spicy seems a bit spicier than you'd expect, but certainly not nuclear. They have a little cooler filled with beer and mango lassis and Snapples, they heat Naan to order, they pipe in classical music (and did I mention they'll come and clean up your bowl?) so what's not to love? Overall, for about $10 a great Indian place for lunch if you're down here.
