You've disappointed me for the last time Bombay Grill.

I've ordered from these folks about once a fortnight for a couple of years now.  The food is middle of the road indian but generally consistent and fast.  Not tonight though. My order took two hours to arrive. After multiple phone calls and having try to cancel my order I finally received my food only to be interrupted in the middle of eating when they called because they'd lost my credit card information.

Unprofessional and too much trouble for the quality.

It seems like Bombay Grill is a hit or miss kind of place when it comes to the food.  Tonight it was a hit for a friend and I.  Not a deliriously good, platinum overnight hit... but a solidly in the Top 40s kind of hit.

I had the chicken tikka masala, which I asked for on the mild side because I just can't handle the spices.  They managed to do that correctly, but the sauce was still flavorful.  It was a little on the sweet side, and definitely soupier than I am accustomed to, but it was more than edible so I can't complain.  My friend had the chicken malai, which is described in their Grubhub menu as being "lightly spiced" which is a pretty good description.  I only had a quick swipe of his sauce, but he liked it and had no complaints.  The naan was our favorite part; it was very fluffy!  The free rice pudding that came at the end was pretty unremarkable; I understand why they were giving it away because I wouldn't have wanted to pay for it.

The service, however, was abysmal.  The waiter was barely attentive; we practically had to wave him down with red flags to get a refill on the water.  He and the two other men by the counter were too engaged in very loud conversations and arguments through the entirety of our meal.  When the check came (after we got up to ask for it), they allowed us to split it across two credit cards but accidentally charged one of the cards twice instead of each one once.  They remedied this, but that was accompanied by more loud conversation between the four people who tried to solve the problem at the same time.

Also, we were the only customers in the restaurant the entire time we were there.  It was a little early (5:30ish?), but still... that's just weird.  Especially when the staff is talking as loudly as they were.

Total for two entrees, two orders of naan: 35 before tip.

I get take out from this place relatively often, and I'm not sure why.  The food is inconsistent, but ranges between terrible and mediocre.  It's not cheap, either.

I am really disappointed with the food that was delivered from Bombay Grill. This is the worst Indian food experience I've had and it is amazing that I paid soo much for food that I ended up throwing away. The nan bread was shamefully burnt, the appetizers were probably old food warmed up to serve, the sauces were watery and diluted.

Don't listen to the naysayers, this place serves absolutely delicious home-cooked Indian food.  Easily the best in the neighorhood.

Service can be spotty, but mostly because of the language barrier.  The food, however, will not disappoint.  Take out or dine in, either way you're guaranteed good, hearty, made to order Indian cuisine.  Do it.

The only real place with this general cuisine in the Park Slope Area (that I've found worthy of repeat business)

From what I've had, the food is good, but it's definitely a bit bland for what should be well seasoned or spiced.

Having cooked Indian food for myself quite a few times, I know how to make Chicken Tikka Masala, and when I had it here, it was more like milky tomato paste with chicken nuggets floating in it. Not sure where they went wrong. Maybe no garam masala? I have had it twice, and the first time was significantly better. What gives?

Anyhow, I've enjoyed being here, it wasn't crowded, service was pleasant. Pricing was so-so.

The combinations are useful if you're new to this type of food.

Overall, I enjoy it, but at the same time (not to be harsh) I don't have much of a choice.

I'd consider this mediocre indian food - though it seems like the options in brooklyn are slim and it's probably on par with all the other mediocre indian spots in brooklyn.

We had the lamb vindaloo, chicken tikka masala, saag paneer and garlic naan. The first three dishes were just ok.  I found the saag paneer too mild in spices and a little too milky tasting. Also too much saag and not enough paneer. The tikka masala was too 'tomato soupy' and sweet for my tastes. But the garlic naan was pretty good.

If you're looking for indian food in brooklyn this place is about on par with all the others I've tried.

(I would love to hear if others know of better indian food in the area/ neighboring areas)

Definitely mediocre food and sub-par service. Got take-out and my order came incomplete and without any utensils or napkins. It's cheap but I'd happily pay more money to get what I ordered and something to eat it with. Skip it.

Went here two times. The first time we dined in. The second time we took out. However both times the food was horrible. The service even worse. We waited an hour to place our order. They played the same song on their system over and over again. (outdated Bollywood songs). The time we dined out they mixed our order up with some one else. So I waited more.

Other then waiting and waiting for bag food and worse service there isn't much this place offers.

Just because it's the only "Indian" food place around disentangle mean it's good. That's rite "Indian" the people that own the place are Bangladeshi. Not Indian. It's kind of like going for sushi and getting tacos. Does not mix.

Save your self the time and effort and get something else.

Bombay grill= BANGLADESHI NOT INDIAN. I don't even know where to start. First of all I am really tired of seeing all these low quality Bangladeshi restaurants claiming to be Indian and having Gandhi as part of the theme( Gandhi Indian restaurant in the village is another). Normally I would never set foot into one of these dubious "Indian" restaurants because, yes, they are NOT Indian. Worse, they are Bangladeshi--even Pakistani is ok as far as  sub-continental food preparation goes but please, not Bangladeshi. The reason as any desi will tell you is that Bangladeshi restaurants and the owners/staff have little or no idea of hospitality and service. Places such as the Bombay Grill are meant to cash in on the popularity of Indian cuisine without actually investing in a good chef, waitstaff and manners. The service at these restaurants is on par with the Chicken wing places in the ghetto or even lower because there are times they dont even say "Thank You" and crane their necks to see how much you are tipping. The only REAL Indian restaurants in the city are in Curry Hill and they are all Kosher certified- which seperates them from the fake Indian restaurants because Bangladeshi and Pakistani owners being Muslim will never Kosher certify their restaurants. Its against their religion and they are scared the Sky Monster will punish them.
I walked into this place around lunch time on 4/7/11 with my wife thinking I made a major discovery in Park Slope. I was excited to see them offer Biryani as a lunch special. Having talked about this dish with fondness reserved only for vintage bikes and Coen Brothers movies to my wife on various occassions, I, in a moment of weakness, decided to introduce my Brooklyn born wife to the uniqueness of Biryani at this pathetic excuse of a restaurant. The biryani came with green peas and carrot added  from a frozen vegetable bag. It was devoid of flavor or herbs, had 4 pieces of lamb, heavily curried and greasy looking chrome yellow. Whilst getting over my blunder, the waiter brings us two cups of mediocre Raita and says" This is special for you, it's called Raita". Are you f**K*N kidding me? Anyways, we eat the $hyte but can't finish it and the waiter gives us a creepy smile and says"Too spicy?"  at which point I lose all hope. Yes, I didn't even bother to tell the waiter how bad the food was and seeing I am Indian, he should have never made those statements or maybe he thought I was born here since i speak English without an accent and my wife is White..I don't know, but thats the clientele they are after to make a quick buck--people who are new to Indian cuisine. Alas the joke is on them because New Yorkers are pretty worldly when it comes to food and the restaurant reflects it-- we were the only patrons there.
Moral of the story: NEVER step into a Bangladeshi "Indian" restaurant. Do not enable Scamsters by giving them your business.

For a ridiculously affordable price you can get so much food -- one of their deals is an entree with basmati rice, naan, and four sauces -- that's enough to feed two people. Of course I recommend the chicken tikka masala (it's my favorite Indian dish) but my other vice from this place is lamb vindaloo. Finally, a place in NYC that's not afraid of kicking it up with the spicy! I love it!

I'm very surprised at the ratings this place is getting. Am I missing something??

Well, the staff is very friendly, and really knows how to please you. They'll hook me up with a free appetizer, or pack my food to go with some free rice to enjoy my curry when I get home. I'm a huge fan of Indian food, and I must say I've never been disappointed by them. The place is clean, they decor is beautiful. and their meals go great with a nice bottle of Sauvignon Blanc.

Between two people, you can get 2 entrees and a bottle of wine for about $50. Not too shabby.

I love this place. It is my favorite Indian restaurant in NYC. The staff is friendly, the restaurant is quiet, the food is good, and they have some great delivery deals. They have always given me extra rice when I ask for it (to take home leftovers) and never charge extra like some restaurants do (some even charge for the first serving of rice!). I seriously love this place so much and order from it every chance I get. Don't really understand where any of these bad reviews are coming from...

Also, check out their delivery specials if you live in the neighborhood. I believe it's an appetizer, entree, naan, rice, some dipping sauces and rice pudding all for $13.95 or something like that.

I agree with everybody else in that the staff is extremely rude.  It's actually comical how rude they are, so it doesn't even bother me that much.

I'd do take-out instead of delivery just to by-pass as much rude encounters as possible.  I do think that out of all of Park Slope's so-so Indian options this is one of the better ones.

My roommate and I sometimes share the dinner combo of one appetizer and one entree.  It's plenty of food and we always still have left-overs despite the fact that we're hearty eaters.

    Bombay Grill is a joke.

I really wanted to like this place (and I have a pretty high tolerance for mediocre Indian food), but these guys are downright incompetent. The sauce comes from a can -- it has that viscous, glazed look (and taste) of non-fresh ingredients. The waiters are snide and unfriendly. For example, I picked up a takeout order of rice to go with a home-cooked Indian dish my wife prepared. When I dropped in to pick it up, the man working the cash register expressed his annoyance at my small order, made a rude remark ("This is it? Really? That's all?"), rolled his eyes and sent me on my way.

No idea how these guys are still in business. To their credit, they make an okay naan. But c'mon... that's not saying much.

I really wanted to love this place, the lone Indian in the South Slope, and featuring a very pretty interior -- assuming one does not mind feasting on chicken immediately below a poster of a shirtless starving Gandhi.

The first impression therefore mostly sets the expectations for an upscale and very decent meal. The prices, too, seem favorable. But what you end up with doesn't quite tickle the taste buds. If you love this sort of cuisine and have a tortured, hysterical craving, Bombay Grill may afford you a mild fix.

I would not, however, bring friends who are new to Indian food to this establishment, for fear of thwarting their future curiosity. Better to venture someplace more likely to curry favor with said associates, so that one acquires new accomplices for future missions. This is not likely done with viscous, clay-like chicken tikka masala and soggy saag paneer.

Bombay Grill has good samosas. But then, who doesn't? An Indian eatery that can't even do samosas would not likely last two weeks. They can be bought in bulk and cooked to order.

This restaurant (with the possible exception of Gandhi's emaciated abdomen) looks pretty, but as they are, the rating of "Meh. I've experienced better" fits my sentiments exactly.

It's a good thing the food here is decent, because there aren't many Indian places in the Slope and Amin in Windsor Terrace is pretty blah.

I've had tasty dining experiences 90% of the time I've ordered from Bombay or eaten, except ONCE.

I ordered a side of mango pickle (so oily and spicy and delightful if you can stand having your mouth in flames, which I can).  It tasted a bit off.  A couple of hours later, I was doubled over and projectile vomiting my chiken tikki masala in the toilet.  Sorry to be gruesome, but it was the scariest pukefest of my life.  The chicken tasted fine, so I blame the mango pickle.

This was only one incident, though, and I've eated at Bombay since with no trouble.  Just wanted to share.

There really aren't a lot of Indian restaurants in our hood, there used to be one very close by but they closed down. So it's nice to just have another one that delivers. On two separate occasions I ordered from Bombay Grill. The first was Monday Evening for Dinner. Everything was superb, fresh, and delivered fast. On Tuesday afternoon I ordered lunch and the driver, who couldn't speak English was lost. I waited outside for him but I could not communicate with him because the only two words he could say was "Hello" and "Prospect". The delivery ended up taking about an hour and 45 minutes and by the time the food got to me it was room-temp.

I'll still order from them again but this last experience reaffirms my opinion that immigrants should at least pass a standard literacy test before being allowed to work in a service industry in this country.

I think Bombay Grill knows that people were unimpressed, so they're doing their best to step things up. Both times I've been here they've given my companion and me free appetizers (and they do make sure to say it's on the house). Their saag paneer is pretty standard and tasty. I agree that the naan could be cheaper, but it's very fresh and fluffy. Their spiced tea is also delicious, but again, $2 for a small cup? The (free) rice pudding dessert is refreshing enough to cleanse the palette after some spicy Indian fare.

Unlike others, I found the staff to be incredibly attentive and kind. Like many things in Park Slope, Bombay Grill is overall slightly overpriced but good enough to keep me coming back when the mood strikes. Especially if they continue to give me free stuff.

We had a samosa from here while walking through some street fair in park slope; it was so good that we went back the next day for dinner instead of going to our usual place. we should have stuck with the familiar.

they were very nice, i will give them that. and the naan was the best part of the meal. the rest, not so much. i always get a thalie when i'm trying a new indian place, just to get an idea of what they do (and in case i don't like one thing, i have 2 or 3 other choices). the lamb korma was way too sweet and was an odd brown color; the chicken sagwala was made from slimy frozen spinach and had very little flavor. the tandoori was OK, but again, underseasoned. i kept thinking that it was like indian food one would get in a school cafeteria.

I came here with my lovely roommate, and we enjoyed a really nice meal. Bombay Grill has pretty standard Indian fare. However, they have some "sampler" specials that are really fun. My roomie got the Vegetable Special that came with five distinct vegetarian dishes and a bowl of rice. So you can try a little of everything!

My roomie and I split Samosas which were yummy. I got my favorite Indian dish, Chicken Tikka Masala, which was great! The service and atmosphere were fine, and the food was very good.

I thought at almost $4 the naan was a bit overpriced; usually it is just $1!

This is a pretty standard Indian restaurant, but what makes it special are the sampler specials! I would come back again!

Wow, I am really horrified reading all these reviews about Bombay Grill. Clearly, I missed something when I walked in there. I thought nicely decorated, efficient staff, and family owned?

I had two samosas and a mango lassi which was awesome by the way. The only awkward part was that the indian guy wouldn't hand me my order until he told me what he had said in foreign tongue which meant "beautiful lady".

Great, your wife's right next to you though and I'm sure she's not impressed.

    UPDATE:::
Dinner was very pleasant here, I feel bad I was such a harsh critic. The food was excellent and my waiter was a really swell guy.

I just came home from Bombay Grill, and this place is so great, I signed up for Yelp right now just so I can submit a review for them. The staff is super friendly / humble / helpful, and the food is sooo delicious!!! We ordered chicken nan (plain), tikka masala, and makhani, with basmati rice included. It was all perfectly made, and during the dinner, they asked us twice if we wanted more rice. After the dinner, we got rice pudding - on the house.

One thing though, there wasn't any background music...they should play some soft Indian music, yes? Maybe their stereo was broke ;)

My fiance and I order from here all the time -- it's one of our very favorite dinner options! We always do takeout, because we like to sit at home and watch our latest Netflix DVD while enjoying our tasty Indian food. Mm-mmm... Sometimes we have them deliver and sometimes we stop by to pick up. The staff has NEVER been rude to us! By now they even know my fiance's voice when he calls to place the order, and they are very friendly. I always feel welcome and that they appreciate our business. We've even talked about Indian movies with people from the staff and they've given us great recommendations on titles to check out.

We usually get the same thing every time, with minor variations (we're creatures of habit). I agree with a recent review about the tikka masala sauce being super yummy. I've joked about drinking it before; that's how much I like it. We really like their pakoras, samosas, naan, and malai kofta as well. I'm completely baffled as to the people who have had bad experiences with both staff and food. It sounds like they're talking about a different place altogether. I can say that we will definitely be back time and time again.

In fact...I believe we just got a new Netflix in the mail...wonder what's for dinner tonight? ;-)

We've only had take-out and while yes, it's slightly expensive, I find it to be above-average take-out. They have great dishes (poori bhajee) and the vegetarian mains are good (saag paneer, malai kofta, vegetable tikka are all great) and naan is soft and pillowy. For take-out or pick-up, it's one of our South Slope favorites. Also, the leftovers taste great for lunch the next day. Now that we've realized two mains, one order of naan and maybe an appetizer is enough for dinner and lunch the next day, we've cut down the cost.

I honestly have no idea how this establishment is still in business. I'm sure their rent far exceeds the money they earn. I really though that the cultured elite of Park Slope would know better than to patronize a business serving such a poor excuse for Indian food, or food at all, but maybe I overestimated them. Your rose water complimentary dessert does not mend the wounds that I suffered while dining here!

This is one of a few Indian restaurants in Park Slope. I used to order from them for take out but have stopped doing so for a while now. The food is just ok. It's basically gotten very Americanized and the spices aren't really there. It also uses a lot more sugar and some of the curries are way too sweet. Some items are decent like Aloo Papri and their naan bread. But I had very bad experiences with the waiting time for my orders. Twice I have ordered from them and had to wait for over an hour for my food. One of those times I went to the restaurant to pick up the food myself. I went to the restaurant 25 minutes after I placed my order over the phone as instructed. When I arrived, there was already another girl waiting for her take-out order too and she was already there for over 30 minutes, just waiting. It became clear that there's some communication problem between the ordering machine an the kitchen such that all the orders were messed up. After experiencing this twice in a row I decided not to try them anymore. These days I usually order from Kinara for Indian takeout.

I have a soft spot for this place as a delivery option. It's perfectly fine and the portions are large so there's plenty of leftovers for the next day.

My husband gets the chicken tikka masala. It's a little on the sweet and creamy side for me, but he likes it. I have very much enjoyed the vindaloo and think the chana masala is great even for meat lovers. Also, definitely try the ka-choris for an appetizer.

Worst Indian food ever. They messed up my order and when I called they said they'd send the right food over. I called two hours later and they said it would be another two hours since they had to wait until the end of the night. Bad service and worse food.

Had lunch here on a weekday -- was one of only three patrons. I ordered the chicken tikka masala lunch special, which was reasonably priced for the amount of food they served. I also had the garlic naan, tamarind chutney, raita, and kheer for desert. Oddly enough (given other Yelp reviews of this place), the waiter was super friendly and gave me the chutney and raita on the house (he was creepily "too friendly" with me). Overall, the food was mediocre. The tikka masala was a little "off" (lacking cream?) but nonetheless edible.

This place isn't great and a bit expensive for what it is, but my partner and I order in from here a lot. It's the only good-enough Indian in the neighborhood and we both LOVE Indian enough to tolerate the mediocre variety. Plus they're super, super nice. But it's certainly no Jackson Diner. I like the samosas here and the chicken korma is fine, though a little sweet.

The food is mediocre for Indian cuisine. The staff / delivery service is horrible. They are very rude.

I just had an experience when after waiting for an hour for my food, someone from the restaurant called me, angry. He said the delivery guy couldn't find the place, and had called me. He had not called me; this gentleman lied to me explicitly, and had the nerve to be rude to me.

It is wise to avoid at all costs.

The food is pretty good.  The staff is rude, extremely slow and kinda shady.  Do not eat in!  The takeout experience is OK, but it's really remarkable how little respect this place has for its customers.

I wasn't crazy about Indian food but was convinced to have dinner here with a friend.  The Chicken Tikka Masala was great, Samosas were excellent and the service was attentive.   I'm now a fan... Mmmmm.
