We're always greeted with a warm handshake by the young manager every time we visit. He's courteous and always checks on us during our meal... he even takes the time at the end of our feast to converse about how life's been treating us.
I love the decor and cleanliness of the place... also the bi-level seating is neat. I haven't tried everything in the buffet but my favs are the Lamb curry (minus all the bones,) Murg Makhani (Indian Butter Chicken,) potatoes and Tandoori Chicken.
I Love coming to the Lunch Buffet..... the a la cart dinner menu M-Th is a little pricey and the portions are small.
I'm knocking down a star for the treatment that we received last Saturday. It was Halloween, and the restaurant was mostly empty due to trick-or-treating/parties that were going on that evening. The food was fine, and was plentiful, I mean, it is a buffet after all.
We were a table of four, and were finishing-up our meal, and the servers started to hover once we had paid our check and were still chatting it up at our table. I mean, we still had some desserts that we were going through, and sipping on some chai. I think that someone came by our table at least three or four times, almost as to say "get the hell out". Rude. The last time, a server came up to our table, and rudely said "Are you done", and when we said "yes" abruptly started pulling dishes from the table, and then pointed at the money we had left on the table and said "this for tip?" and grabbed that, too, crumpling it into his hands. We got the point that they wanted us out of their near empty restaurant and that we left a fairly generous tip given that it was a buffet.
I still like their buffet, but management really needs to train the servers to let people enjoy their time out with each other; especially when there aren't a whole bunch of people in the lobby clamoring for a table.

For a buffet-style dining, this place has CONSISTENTLY good food! However, it's one of those places where you would go and enjoy once a month. Why? Because they don't really change up the "menu". What you see is usually what you're going to get...lunch or dinner!
TIP: Ask for Naan before you head out to get the food. Sometimes it can take them a while to make 'em or bring the naan to your table.
We have been frequenting this place for the past couple of years. Yesterday we went after a very long gap..I have no idea what has changed-perhaps the management (new faces) or team of chefs. They just couldn't keep up with the food quality. The food was not tasty and we quickly decided to call quits and leave.
Everyone greets you well. The dinner buffet costs about $16 per person. Worth it for good food. Not worth it for tasteless dishes...:(
This place is just too good. I was skeptical because this is a chain of indian restaurants and I was worried that the authenticity would be lost. But I was wrong, from the decor, to the customer service to the food..it was awesome. Came here during the lunch buffet which is til 3pm. :) excitement since I always take late lunches. Food was very filling and had pleased my appetite. Had a huge variety of choices and had good desserts too.
Another plus that it's right down the street from my house. :) bad news..my original indian restaurant will be seeing a lot less of me now that I found a place closer and just as good.
Hands down, the best Indian buffet in the south bay. They have a vegetarian side and a chicken and lamb side. I've really never strayed to the desserts or "salad bar" since I'm typically too full.
Their Spinach Paneer and Butter chicken are my favorites. You can spot me there with half of my plate covered in each. They do bring a basket of nan to you table.. with the first layer drenched in butter.
I only eat their fried dishes right after they come out of the kitchen, otherwise be prepared for some soggy fried foods. We were luck this time since we got to the restaurant right after it opened for dinner!
I love how they have a self service soda dispenser unlike other restaurants which charge you by the can. I typically drink up my water cup and use that for my soda since it holds more than the 8oz cups they supply you with. Oh, and the soda/tea is included in the price.
Lastly and most importantly... I never get stick from eating here!
Wow... There had to be at least 25-30 items on display at the dinner buffet. Some highlights:
Butter Chicken - Excellent, can't ever go wrong with butter chicken. I was introduced to it by my good friend Mike L. and is now one of my most favorite Indian dishes. Its creamy, well spiced and the tandoori chicken adds a touch of smokiness to the dish. Bombay Garden's Butter Chicken is one of the better one's I've had
Tandoori Chicken - usually not a fan in of itself but they make a pretty good one
Veggie Briyani - it was okay, nothing to write home about.
Saag Paneer - Delicious. Can you really go wrong with cubes of cheese? (yeah, probably but they didn't, so don't you guys worry)
fried Poorie (I think...) - it was a bit soggy being out in a serving platter for a bit but it was still pretty good. Nice and chewy.
Chana Masala- love this dish and they make a pretty mean Chana, let me tell you
Naan - they bring this out to your table. It was a bit dry today... its probably not one of the better naans I've had.
Chai tea - not the most authentic (so someone tells me) but tasted good to me!
Mango ice cream - a bit on the sweet side but if you're in the mood for a desert its not bad.
The only reason they lost a star - when asked about the price of the buffet a waiter quoted us $11.95 but at the register it was rung up $13.95. If your own staff gets the prices wrong, how are the customers going to keep it straight! Still overall very nice experience.
This place is awesome! I took my friend here for lunch buffet and we ate so much that I had to run to the Orchard Supply Hardware next door to get a wheelborrow to roll us out!
Like the sister location in Fremont, this is no small buffet of a few items - there's like a long center hot table surrounded by two other food tables. It's so funny to watch people around the food - they're so mesmerized by all the food, they don't know which way to go (and I'm sure people were saying the same thing about me too!).
Favorite foods: Great chicken curry, samosas, chicken vindaloo, aloo matter. I can make a meal just on their curry, rice, and naan with a mango yogurt chaser!
GOOD:
-Awesome selection of food - So much that you might want to try tiny portions first then go back for your favorites later.
-Very flavorable food. Tasty, yet satisfying (yeah, a line outta' Lion King, I know).
-Nice atmosphere
-Maaango ;) frozen yogurt for dessert
-Good lunch buffet price - The food to dollar value is great!
-Lots of parking
FAIR:
-Restaurant can run cold tempreture-wise so bring a jacket just like Mom always warned you to do.
-Lots of hussle-bussle, especially at lunch, so unless you get a quiet corner, be prepared for cafeteria-style noise levels sometimes.
NEEDS IMPROVEMENT:
-Staff and service can sometimes be less than friendly or accomodating (hint to restaurant, remember... you're in the people business).
I'll totally be back to this place - even if sometimes less than friendly or cold (just my views, folks). It's great food, selection, and atmosphere will have me coming back again.
AMAZING SELECTION. There are 20 different *vegetarian* options in the buffet, let alone meat ones on top of that. This has the best variety I've ever seen and every time I go, my eyes are bigger than my stomach is!
If you go, be prepared for a major food coma because you won't be able to stop yourself from sampling everything from the great buffet selection they have (which includes 3 different kinds of desserts -- crazy). No wonder, the restaurant is always packed when I go in for lunch.
Good Indian food. Great prices and I'm in love with the Mango Ice Cream! Great flavors, colorful plates, and full stomaches. What else could you wish for? Check out this nice establishment and don't forget the Butter Chicken!
Love it.
Naan and Curry.....mmmmmmm!
One of the most fulfilling buffets I've encountered. With not much experience eating Indian food, my taste buds were exploding in tasty dishes. There were some many options of curry, I couldn't decide.
The warm Naan served fresh from the waiter was good, but the flaky sweet version in the Buffet area was addicting. I think if I cut down from those flaky bread pieces, I could've indulged even more! The Chautney (sp?) was delicious over the different potato appetizers.
Expecting to pay more, a friend and I were surprised for the $26 bill for two lunch buffets. Definitely will come back on an empty stomach for lunch!
If you like food posioning and cold food then this is the place for you! Seriously, every time I have gone there I have gotten violently ill. It's a bummer because if the food at the buffet was actually warm then it would taste good and they play Bollywood stuff on big tv's, which is always exciting. Seriously though, I'm sure they used to be good, but they aren't now.
For an all you can eat buffet, this place was decent. Not bad at all but it wasn't to die for.
My first plate I had the butter chicken which tasted pretty good. But after the first plate most of the curry started to taste the same.
The mango ice cream was delicious but the rice pudding wasn't.
Why does ANYONE go here? It's not good. All you Indian people who were there when I went in ... shame on you!
There's a lot of selection, but who cares if the food tastes bland and boring? I'd rather have 3 excellent dishes than 15 crappy ones. If you go to a buffet and don't WANT to go back in line for one thing, then there's seriously something wrong with the food.
Do yourselves a favor and never ever ever ever go here. Go to Turmertic instead. It's cheaper and a lot better.
I think I just found my new favorite Indian restaurant. Much like others I found the food to be amazing, service was above par, and the decor was nice.
Food ordered..
Chana Masala, Saag Paneer, Chicken Tiki Masala, Shrimp Korma, and Garlic & Kabuli Naan. Everything was amazing, my personal favorite was the Shrimp Korma and Saag paneer. I'll definitely go back and will have to try the lunch / weekend dinner buffet.
I came here for the weekday dinner with two of my co-workers.
Okra Masala
Chicken Tikka Masala
Tandori Mixed Grill (We ordered the Thanli(? spelling) which means it comes with rice and the naan.
Pappadums came with mint/cilantro dip and tamarind dip
Good service and did I mention I enjoy the interior decorations inside the restaurant?
There is also an upstairs dining/party area.

I am not at all qualified to judge the authenticity or greatness of Indian food. I am, however, an expert on what is tasty.
This place is tasty. I had the Masala Dosa and a the Bombay Chicken Masala. The dosa was wrapped more loose than the other times I have had it and the insides were more fried like hash browns. I don't know if this is good or bad but I do know that it was tasty. Tastier than the dosas at Dosa in SF that is for sure.
The walls are ORANGE. This makes me happy.
The service was top notch. The waiters are very friendly and attentive.
The prices were right too.
This is a great place for a simple and inexpensive night out that feels special and somewhat enchanted.
Went here for dinner buffet. The items were on the salty side. And all the curries and such were luke warm. the deep fried items were not freshly crisp as I had hoped.
Quality definitely went down since the last time I was here. What was definitely disappointing was the service. Me and my friend left an 18-20% tip. With that said, we were told to leave shop as they were closing----multiple times. First he said we are closing so close out your tab. Then two minutes later he said the buffet is no longer available so get your last bite. Two minutes later he said we are closing the restaurant. so you must finish. and made a lock and key gesture with his hands.
Bah, don't think i will be coming back

Without out a doubt, this is the best Indian buffet I've ever been to. It's definitely reflected in the price though...I'm never really sure of what the various prices are (weekday lunch buffet, weekend lunch, weekend dinner) but it always ends up being around 15-17 with tip.
All the items are constantly being reloaded so you're bound to have fresh food
- Variety: there's gonna be about 7-8 kettles on each side of the main buffet so that means 7-8 meat and 7-8 veggie dishes at all times, plus whatever is on the appetizer bar (mainly veggie stuff though).
- Meat is generally pretty high quality -- most of the dishes use boneless meat. I think once in a while some of the lamb dishes use non-boneless chunks, but no biggie.
- Butter chicken is probably among the best I've had. It definitely tastes like a heart attack waiting to happen
- Biryani is always tasty
- Big fan of the daal makhni
- They also have an oft overlooked appetizer/dosa bar on the side next to all the desserts. Used to have samosas on there but haven't seen them as of late
- Last time I went (few weeks ago) they had a "make your own chaat" station next to the ice cream
- Soft drinks are included! It's rare to see see that with most restaurants, let alone Indian ones ;)
- Naan is brought out fresh to your table
I've been once where we ordered off the menu and that was really good, but every other time I've had the buffet. I try to make it here at least once or twice a month if I can.
One of the better Indian buffets for sure. It's plentiful and has a lot of variety. I think there are at least 14 dishes out for the picking, plus mango ice cream. The butter chicken is superb and my personal favorite. I go with an empty stomach and leave ready to go into a food coma afterwards. One of the best bits- the Bollywood music videos playing, it brings a smile to my face and kinda makes me want to get up to sing and dance in the aisles.
After reading the reviews, I was excited to try this place.
So, my friend and I headed here for dinner on Fri. night.
Since I haven't been eating Indian food for very long, I really like going to buffets because I can try new things without having to commit to a whole meal.
This place is immaculately clean, (even the bathrooms smell pleasant!)
We were seated right away, and then headed to the buffet.
They had quite a few options on the night we were there. Several vegetarian, my absolute favorite being the vegetable korma!! It was the best dish on the entire buffet.
There were also a few chicken dishes, which made me happy, (I crave protein like crazy!)
I hate to say it, but I found most of the chicken dishes disappointing. For one thing, there was quite a bit of dark meat in them and I only eat white. Their butter chicken was ok, but really lacking in flavor. Amber's is a million times better.
The mango chicken was good, but very bland. I originally thought it was white meat, and was unpleasantly surprised by greasy dark meat when I went back for a second piece.
The naan was good, but I've had better.
Service was great, waters were kept refilled, and naan was brought out while we were at the buffet table.
I'd like to give them 3.5, but since i can't, I settled on 3 stars.
I would go back if someone else wanted to, but otherwise there are other places I prefer.
Got a crazy craving for an Indian lunch buffet today so after reading a few recommendations onYelp, I chose to meet a friend at Bombay Garden.
Service: was great, had to ask to refill glass but always rather quick about it, men up front were friendly, when it came time for the check they got it right away for us and since we were paying with cash and card the man up front came back to sepcifically make sure he got the request correct
Food: HUGE selection! Was very pleasantly surprised. There were four types of rice and all sorts of goodness. My favorite item was the cheese ball carmelized. Did not sound great but I think it should be a dessert item instead! It tasted like a little piece of dessert heaven and I highly recommend trying it.
Overall, great experience. Would definitely go back again.
Came here 2 weeks ago and it was still as good as ever. And we got to watch soccer and surprisingly racy Indian MTV videos. What a combo!
Bottom line: Still my fave Indian buffet in the Bay Area.

I've died and gone to Bombay Garden Heaven! This is my ultimate favorite Indian lunch buffet restaurant... hands down. I couldn't believe the variety of dishes (meat, vegetarian, appetizers, breads, sauces, salads, desserts) for only $12!
So many dishes to choose from that I can't even explain. The great thing about a buffet is you can find a favorite dish and weed out the not-so good ones. The goat curry was okay but too many bones. I think my favorite was the cauliflower and mixed veggie dish. The tandoori chicken was cooked to perfection. I totally passed on the salad because I can eat that home! The desserts were a bit too sweet for me but I tried it because of my curiosity. And mango soft serve?!? I've never seen that in LA! The naan was excellent and they made it without butter.
This is what I call a buffet where you eat for the whole day. I saw many Indian locals which was a good sign. When I left this place, I easily gained ten pounds and didn't feel guilty ... isn't that why the elliptical machine was invested for?!?
This is a good place to come and test out some different indian dishes. My personal favorites are the tandoori chicken (like a BBQ chicken without the sauce), the butter chicken is soooo good here really light on the curry, and the potatoes and naan dipped in the butter chicken sauce.
Just moved to Santa Clara from San Jose and was delighted to see an Indian place near my new house. Went with my boyfriend a few weeks ago and just loved it. Nice ambiance and great decorating. The food was great too. We had the vegetable samosas to start off with and they were GREAT! Nice and hot and delicious. We ordered two different chicken dishes-tikka and a special "bombay" style masala which were both delicious--good sized portions too.. Served promptly and hot and perfectly spiced. The naan was pretty tasty and what we got for dessert (two golden dough balls??) was great too.
The only thing stopping me from giving 5 stars was the man who seated us. He wasn't exactly rude but he basically sat us down, tossed the menus at us and then came back repeatedly asking if we were ready yet....in 10 second intervals. Kind of strange and each time that we said we needed a few minutes he would blow out an exasperated sigh. Other than that, good all around.
Not the best place for Indian Buffet .
Most of the items doesn't seem fresh and are salty .
There are better places to have Indian buffet for the same price range
Awesome Indian food! I recommend the lamb kabob & butter chicken!
lunch buffet for under $12. yay!
we came around 1pm this afternoon and were seated almost immediately. i was very surprised by the interior.. it was prettier than i had imagined it would be. when i think of buffet (thats not in vegas) i think of cheapy tables and chairs.. so not the case here.
my favorites were the butter chicken sauce with the chicken masala. lol. the chicken in the butter chicken was a little dry compared to all the other dishes. the tandoori chicken was tasty too. also enjoyed the basmati rice and the corn masala.
everything was good but of course for a buffet its not going to be great. the food was on the lukewarm side which made it a little less appetizing. but it was definitely not bland. we will be back for more when i get another craving.
what makes this a great place is that soda and mango soft serve is included in the meal. free soda and dessert?? score! the soft serve is quite sweet so try a little before you make a mountain of swirly goodness. lol.
service was mehh.. my water didnt get filled until i was done with dessert and i had to ask someone to take care of the bill since it had been sitting on the table for a while. when i asked if we were supposed to pay in front the guy just took the card and bill and pointed in the direction of the front of the store... and then took the card with him. lol.. it took a long while for someone to bring it back. if we were supposed to pay in front it would have been nice for them to tell us.
i tried to take a walk to help with this food coma but its not working so nap time it is..
Y'know, I really like this place. It's a big buffet with a lot of vegetarian options and the big screen TVs are usually playing some crazy Bollywood musical, which makes for a delightful dining experience.
Unfortunately, I've got to ding them on two points.
First: Consistency. The first couple of times we went here, we were pleased with the MILD nature of most of the dishes. Now, I'm a zippy spicy kinda guy, but my darling bride enjoys her food a little less oppressive. Thus, we were happy to find a buffet that caters to the tender palates of the white folk out here. However, when we stopped by the other night, it seemed like they'd gone crazy with the spice! Even the Navratan Korma was hot! I actually saw Gini use Raita! So there's one point off.
Second: I'm not sure how to say this, but I think they've been living in a patriarchal society too long. They gave me the bill and, even though my wife was clearly paying for the meal (she pulled out the cash and handed it to the waiter herself), they said "thank you, SIR" and brought the change to me. They never even really acknowledged her existence, which sort of pisses me off. We both work, we both earn money, she didn't walk into the restaurant ten steps behind me, I just found the entire thing off-putting.
Other than that, I like the food and the atmosphere. There are, as I said, a lot of vegetarian options (and some lamb and chicken dishes) as well as a variety of pakoras, breads (naan, roti, paratha, dosa) and desserts. Everything is quite tasty and, when not flaming hot, usually aimed at the caucasian palate.
You will not leave hungry! Mark my words!
I'm an Indian food fiend, mostly because I didn't get to try Indian food until I moved up to the Bay.
Bombay Garden is good. Large buffet, with lots to choose from, with the pans/pots of food always filled. The food is really good, although the second time I went, it wasn't as good as the first. I'll chalk that up to freak taste. Try the fried bread thing (not sure what its called, but its like fried naan)
Large rooms, clean, and prompt service..
I was honestly leaning towards a 3, but that would mean I wouldn't go back.. which would probably be a lie.
kabob and curry? sorry, i've moved on. $2 bucks more and i get 3x the buffet!!!
for the price of $11.95 a person for week lunch buffett, i get A HUGE BUFFET OF THE BEST TASTING FOOD EVAR (i can't speak on authenticity but mother efffing good food)
mango ice cream, the best.
naan refills, immediately after you get a waiter.
curry selection, galore.
raita/yogurt thing, best accompaniment to all curries.
yum. i crave it NOW.
My best description in a single word would be "inconsistent".
They have an excellent selection of vegetarian dishes, meat dishes, what I would classify as appetizers and desserts. They include soda and Chai with your meal so that is a bonus. The price is decent and the service is fair (what you expect for a buffet).
And now for the inconsistencies. The food is either really good or too salty. About 50% of the time I go, it is too salty but the flavors are there. I just suffer from salt overdose. If you have a high tolerance for salt, which I do, then you will still enjoy your meal. If you can't take over salted food then I suggest you stay away since they seem to go overboard with the salt often (50% of the times I've tried).
The naan they bring out might be really hot, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, which is perfect. But other times it comes out not so hot and soggy. We sent it back a couple of times until we got a good batch or gave up and ate the soggy ones.
This is a buffet so I am rating it based on what one can expect from a buffet. This is my favorite Indian food buffet (50% of the time...on the less salty days). I sill like it so much better than Passage to India in Mountain View.
Wow what a surprise!
I use to work down el camino and I would pass by Bombay Garden as I would get my starbucks and not even look twice. The boyfriend was craving Indian food. We were yelping and yelping till we finally decided on Bombay Garden. (Buffet? yehhhh)
Dinner was about 14 each for the buffet (Sunday Night). The manager/head server was very professional. We arrived just a little past opening and he was apologetic that not all the food was out yet even though it didn't bother us at all.
The food was delicious. The only thing I had a problem with was the fish. It was a tad salty but oh well. The boyfriend and I tried everything. Naan came out fresh and our plates were taken away almost instantly. All the curries taste really good. The vegetarian dishes were spiced amazingly and everything had just the right kick of spiciness. Soda and tea was complimentary with the buffet. I haven't been to a buffet in a long time that gives soda with the buffet.
The restaurant itself was nice. Flat screens played a variety of Indian music videos and I couldn't stop watching even though I had no idea what was going on.. The back room was being sit up with streamers, flowers and Christmas lights I'm assuming for a party later that night. Its a rather big restaurant and even though they were preparing for a party in the back room and had a large party upstairs, they didn't let that affect how the service was in the main buffet room.
Over all it was a good experience.
P.s. the mango ice cream is really really good.
Service was great and food was tasty, and the restaurant is clean. $14 for a dinner buffet is hard to beat.
The two best things about this place are the interior and wide selection at the buffet. The interior is attractively clean, almost elaborately designed, unlike say, the shabby makeshift-ness feel of Bombay Oven. The food... well it seems like they've got something for everyone. If you go there hungry, be careful not to pack in too much or you'll bust your side and come out with a headache (sometimes eating all that food can be too salty). But oh, it's all really good.
This is my #3 place to go for Indian lunch
buffet and #1 for "anytime" buffet and for best
overall price/performance. The food is consistently
fresh and well prepared - the service is usually
excellent and the staff try to please. My one
complaint (if you can call it that) is the mildness
I find in the food - too much catering to whimpy
people and not enough authentic Indian spice.
Oh and one other thing: you can't pre-stack dosa's
and/or Idli's - since they are all in the steamer bins,
the idli's get a bit hard and dry and the dosa's a bit
mushy...
I wonder why, however, there's such a quality and
taste difference between this BG and the one in
Fremont - Same owners and yet this one is great
and the Fremont one, a place I would avoid.
Since I hate having to dig around people's reviews
to find out what their top picks are in a category...
#1 For lunch buffet: Madhuban.
The food is of the highest quality I've found
in the Bay Area - it really rivals the best Indian
places I've eaten in in London or Singapore;
the buffet at around US$15 is totally worth it.
#2 For lunch buffet: Turmeric (Murphy street in
Sunnyvale) .Again, the food quality is outstanding
and the variety is excellent - the price is also in-line
and reasonable for a buffet of this quality.
Wonderful, authentic, fresh indian food. Try the lamb curry!
Located right next to a Lucky supermarket, I almost missed the sign when I went here for the first time a few weeks ago. This was formerly Pasand, a restaurant owned by the scumbag Lakireddy Balie Reddy - you can read more here: http://en.wikipedia.or...
The new owner has done a nice job with the restaurant - the inside is very nice and looks clean, belying the outside average appearance. The flat-screen tvs show bollywood films that entertain while you eat. The buffet has some items not available at the Amber (in Santana row, also Amber's butter chicken is slightly better) buffet. There are pretty good selections in their all-you-can-eat buffet. The mango lassi was very drinkable. I would definitely go back!
Dinner buffet 1/17 6pm
place was half-empty, not surprising considering.
I just can't hang with the buffet anymore, the dishes are plagued with listless sauces and redundant spices/curries.
Lukewarm trays too...some dishes, especailly the meat curries, are very unappetizing unless they are to temperture- they don't taste as cooked when they are at room temp.
*Items tried on buffet*
Rice
Poori
Tandoori chicken
Lamb Curry
Lamb seth kabob
Butter Chicken
Idlii, sambar, chutnies
Dosa
Fruit
Mango ice cream
Very ordinary stuff. Salty too. The naan served at our table was oldish and stiff. Uh oh.
We ordered a few beers and a couple glass of wine too...total for 6 adults comes out to $112. Medicore value and mediocre food.
Eating here for the 3rd time, each time getting progressively worse-
It's gonna take some changes for me to be back at the Garden
2.5 stars
