One of Bohemian Hall & Beer Garden's Favorite Reviews What's This?
When I die, please bury me here with a mug in my hand. Right underneath that beautiful gate into the beer garden.
Then proceed to celebrate for six hours with crazy-good pierogi and kielbasa, and endless pitchers of beer. Oh, and their version of spaetzel with those thick chunks of bacon on top.
Excellent service. Excellent beers.

Be forewarned: during the summer months, this place gets JAMMED with people, so much so that there is usually an hour-plus line to get into this place. The food runs out about three hours before the bar closes and it's near impossible to find a table unless you get there early.
That being said, this is a fantastic beer hall and garden. The outdoor space (where live music is regular and fantastic) is large enough to accomodate a decent-sized crowd, while the indoor space is cozy enough for a mid-week to Friday-style crowd. The beers on tap are all from Central Europe, all fantastically priced (no more than $18 for a pitcher, and some as low as $13), and the food is basic but great. Come with a group to enjoy Bohemian Beer Drinking (tm) at its best!
BEER SELECTION: About eight or so German, Czech, and like-styled lagers for decent prices. The variety won't knock your socks off, but the quality will.
FOOD: Sausages of different persuasions, served with or without french fies and sauerkraut. See above comment.
SERVICE: Pity these overworked schlubs who rush to fill in the orders of your group and the hundreds of others that fill this place on an average weekend.
Plan on making this your one destination at night. Get there early and drink until you can't stand up. Don't worry, there are livery cabs waiting to charge you out the wazoo to take you home. There's not a whole lot around to do later, anyway.
About 8 friends and I went to the Beer Garden last Saturday around 6pm to hang out. It was our first time there and we wanted to experience the unfortunately we were a little disappointed.
I think our disappointed resulted from a few myths about the Beer Garden that I'd like to dispel:
1. Don't expect a wide variety or selection of beer. While the beer is good, there are only about 10 beers to choose from.
2. Don't go there hungry. While the Beer Garden advertises itself as a true German/Czech/European experience the food is strictly Oscar Meyer hotdogs...dissapointing.
That being said, it was a fun time. Definitely a good place to go, chill outside and drink beer.
As crazy as it is, I'm obsessed with beer and I had never been to one of the many beer gardens around the city. I fixed that this past weekend when I finally made it up to Astoria to go to Bohemian Hall.
It didn't hurt that it was the most beautiful day in history. But having a giant yard with a ton of table space went a long way towards taking advantage of the weather. Add in a great beer selection and you're almost there. But what really put it over the top for me was some seriously high quality sausage. Spicy bratwurst and smoky kolbasa to be exact.
I went in expecting to have one sausage--I thought the $8 tag was a bit hefty. But then they handed it over, and in fact the 8 bought two hefty sausages. Tragically, when my brother didn't show up I had to eat his as well. It was a great day for my heart and a better one for my soul.

Ah, what kind of rating do you give a place where 9 times out of 10 you have a perfectly decent time, but suffer through one infuriating exception? Well, here's the tale of the exception and you can decide whether the two stars is justified or not.
It's the lazy-type of Saturday in the early fall where my soul is pratically begging my body to bundle up all cozy-like and go do some outdoor day drinking. I get my text on and thankfully dig up some pals thinking likewise. As de facto leader of the diurnal drinkers, I nominate Bohemia, a soon to be ironic choice considering that Studio Square is actually more convenient and closer for everyone. "Character over modernity" was my foolish rationale.
Not wasting much time, I get on "line" at the bar. Of course, by "line" I don't mean a velvet roped queue, but rather the faith in a bartender being able to expedite with fairness. All is well at the beginning. Sure, it's crowded and the taps are filled with molasses-inspired booze so the "line" is moving at a snail's pace, but at least I could see the bartender has a sense of order, even if he did help out a friend who shoved in. If you've got an in with the bartender, you deserve some perks and I dont really mind.
Ten minutes pass, a more than liberal amount of time to be waiting at a bar, but I'm a trooper. However, right when it comes down to about my turn, the dude gets hit with some epiphany and decides he has had enough of bartending and wants to start putting away empty pitchers. When he passes, I give him a theatric shrug which goes ignored.
Whatever. Some pregnant bartender takes the helm, and at least I'm leaning against the bar now, so even if the order is reset, it shouldn't be that long...except that I didn't realize I've got the most intensely myopic bartender in the world. I'm slightly off to the right of the tap, which perhaps suggests I'm not trying order, if it weren't for the fact that I'm more or less spilling over the bar holding out a $20 in a
non-agressive but "hey, I would like you to have this money in exchange for beer" way.
She's helping patron after patron, even helping two seperate people after they had just walked right into the bar. At the five minute mark, I KNOW I make eye-contact with her which isn't a surprise considering at this point my gaze is producing heated laser beams. She mistakes me as an opened Ark of the Covenant because from that point on she is specifically avoiding my eye-contact.
Out of incredulity, I continue to wait, legitimately curious to see if she'll EVER serve me. Each new patron she serves adds to my amusement. I wait there a little less than ten minutes, with my final breaking point being that she decides to serve someone to the right of me. Like, she actually passes me to help someone else.
The fire-pits at Studio Square doesn't seem so cheesy anymore.

What an awesome place to spend an afternoon or evening with friends outside, enjoying imported beer and german food! The grilled kielbasa and bratwurst are excellent.
-1 for not having the kitchen open on a friday night, because I was looking forward to trying their schnitzel.

Ok, here goes for 1 of 4 beer garden reviews.
Bohemian Hall in my opinion got soooo much better once Studio Square opened. Why?
They added non bohemian taps. Namely 2 different 6 point beers.
Now that I got that out of the way. Place ha standard beer garden atmosphere, groups of people sitting at picnic tables drinking pitchers of beer and talking quietly (riiiight)
They don't allow drinking games anymore with signs plastered everywhere, which seems to kill the point but I digress.
Bring scrabble or monopoly and play until you are drunk. There's your drinking game.
Bonus point for having Buck Hunter

Still THE place to go for a good day out in Astoria. Friendly service, wide choice of food and massive selection of beers.
Very relaxing place, often with live music playing!

I kind of love this place. I wish there was a beer garden like this in Williamsburg. It is huge with great outdoor space and relatively cheap beer.
There's a lot to love about the Bohemian Hall & Beer Garden. It's big. It's outdoors. It serves giant beers. That alone is enough to guarantee a good time, but the place isn't as godly and amazing as everyone (including your parents) might have you believe.
The place can get overwhelmingly crowded, and the staff can be a bit of a pain. Despite being optimally set up for drinking games and tournaments, there are signs that warn against it. And it is enforced. Well, maybe I should put that in quotations.
My friends and I were in the midst of the third, tie-breaking round, of an epic series of Flip Cup. The security guy walks up right behind me and menacingly yells that "The games stop NOW!" It would have been well suited as a quippy one liner from a Steven Segal direct to video, but it was delivered by some rent-a-cop bar staffer instead of the pony-tailed one. We just kept playing, ignoring him, and then well... he just walked away.
It's an annoying rule, and it's annoying that they try to enforce it. But at least they're complete pushovers about it.
The space is great, and it has a relaxed boozy vibe going for it when it isn't packed wall to wall. And luckily, that doesn't seem to be the case anymore as Studio Square has siphoned off a chunk of this place's business. It may not be a good thing for the owners, but it's a good thing for the customers who can relax and enjoy themselves a lot more now.
Even if THE MAN tries to half assedly bring you down.

I'm docking it a star because here's what happened. I asked the barmaid with curly hair about how a certain beer on tap tasted. She described it. No problem. She gave me a taste. Wonderful.
"I'll take a pint." She starts filling up a pitcher.
"Hey, I actually wanted a pint." I said.
"You shoulda said something." she replied. I wasn't in the mood to go at it with this evil wench, so I decided to just take the pitcher and drink it. By the way, Pint and Pitcher...They totally don't sound similar at all, do they? They don't even have the same amount of syllables.
Aside from the evil wench, I had a nice time. The weather was nice, there was a ton of people there when I got there, 1pm. I talked to some people. I find that the crowd is generally pretty friendly. You get a mixed bag here. You get douches, decent folk, morons, not many meatheads, if you ask me. I bet there's trash talk. Bathrooms, the floors are wet and a little slippery. Watch out. There are rows and rows of picnic benches. From what I hear, the sausages are good here (they serve food, silly). Funny, later that night, a girl said, "What's up with that bartender? She's such a bitch." That made me smile. I met up with my friend, we shared a pitcher, and that was that. Go with a group. That way, you can hold a table down while one of you uses the bathroom without losing your spot.
This is way overdue for me, especially since my prime days are over here.
But when I came home from school years ago, my friends were talking about this wonderful amazing and magical place called The Beer Garden. We went and my life changed.
When I decided to move to Astoria, I actually searched on Craigslist for apartments that specified that they were close to the Beer Garden. Mission accomplished. I also started a facebook group called The Beer Garden Is Magical. Met some great friends off that group in the BG later on. Good times man.
I know things have changed here, and I should go back but I dont know if I can handle it. I miss the old days of beer pong and bribing the security guard to let us cut the line simply by giving him a pack of gum. My favorite server no longer works there and I doubt anyone can stack pitchers like he did. The fries just seem a little soggier now. The bratwursts just a little to salty. It used to be so dam good!
One of my favorite sports became Beer Garden Table Hunting. Every now and then I didnt mind sharing a table because you meet really interesting people there. Not you usual New Yorkers, which is quite refreshing. But like I said, things have changed and it became too trendy. If one more popped collar walked over to me I was gunna actually throw my Ho on them, and I NEVER waste Ho.
So perhaps I will make my way back to the beginning of my New York City living roots while the weather is still nice out. See you there.

To imagine who exactly gives this outdoor frat house 4 or 5 stars, please do the following:
1) Wear a t-shirt that has Attitude.
2) Become 22 years old
3) Tuck your chin back into your neck
4) Talk like a frog
5) Repeat after me: "This place is f'kin awesome."
6) Repeat after me: "Brews are like $15 for a pitchy."
The crowd notwithstanding, the beer selection is a tick better than your local dive. It doesn't even approach what you'd expect from a place that claims to specialize in beer.
Maybe the most telling thing of all is the security. I'm yet to have the pleasure to stay in Riker's Island, but I'd wager they poached guards from there. They stand cross-armed waiting to club the next dude melee. Wow, what a great atmosphere!

Choose this Beer Garden location only if you absolutely cannot go to the new Studio Square location in Astoria. Although there are obviously plenty of fabulous beers on tap at this place, the Studo Square location has a bit more diversity.
You may also prefer this location if you're into the whole gravel/picnic table feel, which is definitely classic but I'm over it. The veggie burger and fries were delicious, though...can't take that away from them.

If you've read any of my other reviews, you'd know I'm German. So I love the authentic strong German beers. I am in a fraternity so I love mass gatherings, preferably out doors.
Is this a fraternity party for adults? No. I've never been to a fraternity party where they served food. Although I can guarantee, if you go while it's warm out, that someone will either
1) run along/over the walls surrounding the garden
2) get sick after trying to chug German beer
3)some poor female will find out that dressing provocatively will attract the d-bags
If you go, invite me. Please.

Going to the beer garden is kind of like going to a large outdoor picnic at a campground where there is gravel under your feet instead of grass. They have a great drink menu for non-beer drinkers like myself, and a much more extensive food menu than the new location in LIC, although I like the atmosphere of the other one much better. The service here isn't great; we had to flag our waitress down several times. And--people were smoking. For me, this can totally ruin a place.
It's a little "collegey" for me, but if you come with a fun group on a nice day, and you're really into beer, it can be a good time.

I have friends that live in Queens but the only time we see each other is in the city. I live off the G train so it's kind of a pain to get to Queens but I made the trek to the beer garden. Getting off the train, I wasn't sure which way to go but thanks to Juston P., I spotted the exact person he described on the subway and knew immediately that I could just follow them to the beer garden! Totally douchey, popped collar, etc... Arriving, the bar looked empty but I turned the corner to go outside and it was a totally different scene. Luckily, my friends scored a table in the shade so we settled in there.
The chatter was super loud and it didn't help when the band came on. My ears were ringing and my voice was shot by the end of the night because I had to shout just to have a conversation. I was happy to shout as long as the pitchers of Six Point Sweet Action kept coming.
We had pitchers of Captain Lawrence and I had a Hoegaarden.
Very good. Can't go wrong with sausages and french fries.
It was raining the day we went so the band played indoors. They were too loud for the smaller indoors. This place is best suited for outdoors with this good live band.

Was deceptively convinced by two very nationalistic Czechs - one of which is actually half Slovak, that this place is authentic. Ok so they have numerous kinds of Czech beer serve cold and cheap. It's like how the Russians are with their vodka, cheap and plentiful. Not impressed, only by the weather 90F. Food was typical for a beer garden, wiener, potatoes, cabbage, bland and filling - food at Zum is much better.
So just picture it beer lovers having access to a cheap and plentiful source. Not my kind of atmosphere.
For a straight bar, beer garden is fun. I heard a lot about beer garden from friends and family but my first visit there was a few weeks ago.
Besides the bar fight with a tiny ass asian dude who was acting all tough because someone looked at his girlfriend and ended up running when the cops arrived, beer garden is a nice spot.
The waitresses barely speak any english but the drinks are not badly priced and EXTREMELY STRONG. I ordered a grey goose and coke ($8), and the lady filled the cup all the way to the top with GG and gave a tiny spritz of coke, so I wasn't complaining.
Large outdoor area to sit and smoke cigarettes and drink. But beware, everyone gets drunk there so if you like talking to sober people, this is not the place for you lol. They also serve food all night.
FIVE STARS
If there was ever a better time to jump up and shout Yay! I'm a fan! I've spent the last few years coming to the beer garden off and on and I didn't live in Astoria. having finally moved into town, I appreciate it more now than ever. And to top all that off, with all the love I've got for the newer, cleaner, 2.0 expanded, on steroids beer garden in LIC, like an old record player or a worn in baseball glove, they just don't makem like they used to.
Great beers, a great space (slightly more spacious nowadays) and always people to talk with. Great thing about the outdoors, lined up benches and beer is its easy to strike up conversations with the neighbors.
So i say to you Beer Garden, my drinking hole, my friend, I'll always be there for you!! you're my boy blue!!
****4 stars for many fun nights had and many more to come. Come for the great German and Czech beers, come for the affordable food, and come to get a little bit sloshy. The beer gardens better than ever and here to stay.
Came here with friends for Oktoberfest, and it was an all around good time. Delicious food, complete with a giant roast pig sitting on a table, Spaten, and all around good times with friends. They were selling liter steins for $2, but ran out until sometime in the midafternoon, when I was able to get two and oh man, it was wonderful. I will hopefully return, and often.
I had a great time when I went here on Saturday for a friend's going away party. It was mostly a good time just because there was a huge group of us, we had tables and I hadn't seen a lot of these people for a few years since we all moved to different cities. The pitcher of beer was $15 and was enough for three cups so that was nothing special. They had some fun food options (pirogi anyone?) which were pretty tasty (I recommend the potato pancakes) . I was told by some friends that they had had to wait in line to get in here so I am glad that didn't happen to us.
When we were walking toward the beer garden we knew we were in the right place because you could hear the noise from a block away. The scene outside reminded me of lunchtime at summer camp since it is just rows and rows of picnic tables. The inside area has nice tables and it looks like a fun bar to hang out in during the colder months as well. I am sure they make most of their money during the summer months considering how intensely crowded the place was. But even though it was packed I never had to wait in line to get more beer and the waitress was really quick with bringing out the food.
Getting to Astoria isn't too terrible for me since I live near the N so I would definitely go back if people wanted to go again. Outdoor bar options aren't too numerous in NYC and this is a good alternative to the Frying Pan.

You know who hangs out in Bohemian Beer Garden? Assholes.
I was drinking at the Beer Garden once with my favorite Union representative when she started telling me how much she loved drinking at the Beer Garden and hanging out in the backyard. I responded by telling her that, while I like the Beer Garden, it's often filled with assholes. Just then an asshole turned around and confronted me:
Queens Asshole: "Hey, are you calling me an asshole?"
Andy L.: "Well, I wasn't before, but I am now."
That's it; no big fight or anything. Queens Assholes are all talk.

Most of my friends have a cultish attachment to the Beer Garden and will think I'm Public Enemy #1 for giving it three stars. But honestly... I just don't get the hype lately! They've had waay too few bartenders working and my last few visits have reeked of lame.
For instance, this past Saturday, both bars were completely unapproachable with 30+ minute lines. There was "live music" which consisted of a live CD of some crappy Czech band to which a handful of washed up, shouldn't-you-be-at-home-watching-Netflix-looking couples were dancing. And not to complain about loud music in general (I am still in my twenties, after all) but it was deafening! The overpowering "live" CD from hell is what ended up driving us to Studio Square instead.
My other visits this summer have been pretty similar (although I did have *one* fun night here, but was so drunk that I could have had just as much fun in a Walgreens under the same influence.) The servers have been painfully slow and forgetful, and the rude bartenders have treated my friends and I like trespassers at a barbecue.
So I don't know; this place has potential, but only if there are enough bartenders on hand, and if your compulsive friend comes at 4pm to save a table. Otherwise, you'll be standing around awkwardly and waiting for drinks. And potentially deaf.
See you there. Or not...
The place is huge with ample seating both inside and outside. When i went on a Thursday night there was a live band playing country-jazz bit of everything :)
The food is good, way more expansive then Zeppelin Beer garden in NJ but then it is NY so you have to respect higher prices. Here a waitress takes your order while in Zeppelins' you place your order by a window get served then find a place to sit down. Our waitress service was quite prompt no long delays....Easy to find with both car and public transportation
Over all i had a great time there, this place has a good reputation and i will definitely visit again.
This place is right up my alley and my friends describe it best:
"It's like the beach. Instead of the hassle, you just go to Astoria and drink outside." -S
The next comes from Jon via text after informing him that I've left Gotham for Astoria and have invited him to imbibe: "I would but i am out of town get drunk and hit on some trash for me" [please insert the appropriate punctuation].
Two things I love most: drinking outside at the beach and picking up trashy girls. It's just like the Jersey Shore but conveniently located on the N, W in Astoria.

I heard so much about this place from co-workers that I finally made it out with some friends.
Be forewarned, if you drink like a tank like I do, bring some cash because those 4 pitchers don't last long since you'll be spending about 5 hours lounging on benches and talking to other drunks like yourself.
The place is quaint - I was really surprised it reminded me of someone's backyard in Chicago and there's a gymnasium connected to it when you go inside to use the bathroom.
There's a standard bar inside when the weather is cooler but other than that all the action is outside - waiting in line for at least 20 minutes to pick up your pitchers so make sure you've got a buddy with you to double fist those pitchers.
They implemented table service this year - which is sloppy at best since I don't think they have a method of remembering your orders so you're constantly chasing down a waiter reminding them of your last order and hoping they don't triple charge you for fries.
It's a laid back place with tons of 20 - 30 something folks to chill with. Not bad but there needs be a more efficient way to get beer

Well...
I agree with all the positive things that have been said about this place. A lovely evening, sitting at a picnic table, drinking from reasonably priced pitchers of beer, people watching, munching on a sausage.... all very very nice things. You can't go too far wrong with any of that.
However...
You have to be proactive to get table service, if you want to order food. I had to hunt down a waitress -- a process that required considerably more work than it should have -- and I was the third person in a line that formed around her trying to get her attention. Once ordered, our food took maybe 40 minutes (longer?) to arrive. I was starving and somewhat drunk by the time it arrived and dug in with ferocity. And I can tell you from the results of my frenzied consumption: I wholeheartedly recommend the kielbasa and potato pancakes. Goulash was so so. But the two pierogi-eaters offered up a big NO in regards to their meal. So, mixed results on the food, but as the eater of kielbasa and pancakes, I was deliriously happy (though, as I said, this might have been because I drank a lot of beer as I was waiting).
I must add this as well: As we entered, there were some girls who were being turned away at the door for bringing in cupcakes. They couldn't bring in cupcakes. WTF? What if someone's mama baked those cakes? Then it was determined that they had to pay a plating fee of $1.50 per cake. What?! Not classy.
Also, reportedly, there was a man in a bear costume on the grounds.

I like it cause it's easy to get to from Harlem (M60 bus for the win!) and it's pretty cheap. Aside from that, I can't think of a thing it does that Studio Square doesn't do better.
Other reviewers say that it doesn't have a great beer selection. I disagree. While it doesn't have the impressive 100+ beer menus that other bars in the city provide, it does have a dozen great imported beers on tap. I'm sure it impresses all the frat boys that this place caters to.
It probably would have been nice--I came once a few years ago and remember it being fine--but today we never got the chance to find out.
My girlfriend got stopped at the door when they searched her purse (!) and found a bottle of water. The doorman was beyond rude to us, with an attitude like a disgruntled TSA agent on consecutive double shifts. When I popped in to ask the bartender what the story was, he was also rude, saying that it wasn't his problem and he "didn't care what that guy was doing," referring to the bouncer.
It's fine, I guess, to have a "no outside drinks policy", even though as the doorman admitted they give out water for free so it's not a lost revenue issue, but it's not ok to be a dick about it. There are so many places to go out in this town; we prefer to go where they actually seem to appreciate our business.
Do you know what its like to have a crush on someone on and off for 9 years?
What happens when you see that this childhood sparring partner is going to school to be a lawyer and you leave him a funny message about how appropriate his choice in majors was then you get a nice response back that he just happens to be interning in New York this summer and wants to grab a drink? You say yes.
So I live a few blocks away from the Beer Garden and I get a message from this former crush (the boy that has a kiss mark over his 1st grade photo in my elementary school yearbook) that he and his 3 lawyer buddies are there and want me to meet them. I get dolled up then walk on over.
As you enter the Beer Garden it seems like any old bar until you reach the entrance to outside. They have an open area that is courtyard-like in which people can congregate and a bunch of long tables on either side in which a large group can set up shop, easy. There is a line that moves quick to which you can grab a drink or a pitcher of beer. The prices.are affordable.
So here I am meeting up with this guy I hadn't seen since highschool and everything goes great! We get a pitcher of beer, grab a table, I meet his pals, we toast, we tell embarassing stories, and reminisce about summers in our hometown.
A place like Beer Gardens is great for a night when the weather is nice and you are in the mood to get a group together to catch up on old times while having a pint.

Love this place! A bit of a trek from Brooklyn, so it is only for special occasions (which is good, b/c I would spend most of my time/money here if I lived nearby). Great food and a really nice atmosphere! I haven't heard of half the beers on tap, but the waitress was nice to suggest a good one.

I went here with a few friends earlier this week to get schwilly in celebration of my friend losing her job, because ya know, we'll drink to any occasion and it's not like she had work the next day (too soon?)
They've got some good beers on tap, reasonably priced bottles, and a place that serves country style keilbasa is at least worth a visit in my book; though I didn't get any, because someone in my party straight cleaned them out, thanks a lot Karen J. (my Beer Garden nemesis).
I ended up ordering the "chicken in potato pancake". The menu didn't have a description, but I like chicken and I like potato pancakes so what the hell. And what I received was exactly that: a single massive potato pancake with a side of delicious creamed spinach. There was indeed a sizeable chicken cutlet inside the pancake and after getting a side of apple sauce (don't hate till ya try it, I'm lookin at you K.J.!) I was a happy Polish boy.
The music varied from the Red Hot Chili Peppers to Tom Petty, to Bon Jovi, The Cars and Everything But the Girl (?), a few songs were definitely conversation starters. The decor wasn't much, I'd say wait till it's warm and sit in the back patio unless you want to feel like you're at a Knights of Columbus Lodge or VFW Hall (good one Mol!).

You know, I really liked this place. Drinking beer outside requires a few things:
1. Space - this place better be big and there better be enough seats.
2. Beauty - give me trees, other vegetation and mood lighting.
3. People - I need them friendly - but not too friendly (I'm looking at you, awkward couple making out who wouldn't even stop when I threw a cup at you and Dude who automatically thought you were coming home with me when you mistook my being mean to you as foreplay)
4. BEER - give me pitchers or give me death and give me variety or get the hell out.
The Bohemian Hall Beer Garden pretty much covers it all and does it well. A good time with good friends and good beer with some debaucherous people watching.

An oldie but a goodie! What do you do on a 70 degree spring day? Hit the garden with your closest friends of course.
We got there and found parking immediately, there were no lines and our friends already had a table in a packed house. Wow, we really got lucky.
The waitress stopped by frequently to check in on our table making sure we had all that we needed.
The not so good, the grill was still closed and the kitchen closes at 11:00. How can you close the kitchen when every table is filled?

Since I live just a few blocks away, I feel I owe the beer garden a review...
It's ridiculously crowded Thursday night through Sunday afternoon, but on a Monday or a Tuesday night I find it actually enjoyable.
Outdoor picnic tables, Magners in bottles (for those of you... like me... who don't drink beer but still might enjoy a place like this)...
it's not a bad way to spend a warm summer afternoon with a group of friends.
But, unless you like overgrown frat boys, lots of noise, and a place too crowded to even find a seat in, avoid it on the weekends!
The last time I came here on a Friday, someone knocked their lit cigarette into my friend's arm - and didn't even apologize after he noticed he had burned her.
The last time I was here on a Saturday, we had not even been in the garden for 2 minutes before an entire cup of beer was spilled on the girl standing next to me.
Had my birthday here with lots of friends, and we had a ton of fun/space. A couple pieces of cautionary advice:
1) No drinking games. I know. I should grow up. Regardless, leave the ping pong balls at home.
2) No outside dessert. First they told us there was a cutting fee (for cupcakes). Then, after purchasing them, we were not allowed to bring them in. I shoveled two down outside, and went on with my life.
Other than these minor things, this place is solid, casual, and essentially like your backyard with waiter service, better beer, and tastier meat.

I love the beer garden - it's that simple.
I love beer. I love sitting outside when the weather is nice. I love my friends. So, if I can go somewhere that combines all three of those passions, then I am a happy camper.
Only downfall is that it is sometimes difficult to snag one of the coveted picnic tables, so go early if you want a seat.
