Had my tragus pierced by Eldo last year and came on to get the other done just last week. I had Jameson as my piercer this time and it went without a hitch!

Now here's the scary part - my piercing got swollen and hot in two days (no fault of Jameson or the shop!) and I went back to see what could be done before I ran off to my doctor - Jameson and Eldo took care of me and my swollen tragus, cleaned it up and put a longer bar in place for no charge. I got excellent advice and the piercing has completely gone down and behaving like every other piercing I've gotten!

I went to them for a second ear lobe piercing and my friend wanted to get her ears redone since they were done wrong at the mall years ago ( was healed over) this last Tuesday. We both had Andrea who was awesome! Very clean and nice experience. She was very informative and patient.

I was first referred to them by my tattoo artist - from her suggestions (3 of them)  I started to look into each location. I settled on Body Manipulations since they were around the longest, lobby for sterile techniques and I was familiar with the mission area. The over glowing feedback on yelp helped and that's why I wanted to add to it.

I will go back there for any 3d hole or any other piercing need. My sister is now thinking about getting her ears done so I will take her back here to get them done for sure. Its like that saying: don't let friends get bad ink. Don't let friends get a bad piercing. :)

The only hard part was the parking. Its street parking and I had to drive around the area to find something a few times. I am picky about leaving my car too far from where I am at.. so its a personal hang up that you may or may not share.

I got my nose pierced here on Monday.  Jamison was really awesome.  Very professional, very nice.

My gripe is that the girl at the counter knowingly (and cunningly) tricked me into buying a $7 antibacterial that I didn't need (which she insisted I did).

Additionally, while the piercing was on the cheap side ($30), the jewelery itself (a teeny tiny little stud) was a little more than I expected at $55.  But you get what you pay for, right?

Other than sneaky counter girl, five stars.

I honestly have nothing bad to say ever about BM's. They're just simply awesome in every way! The first time I went there was about 10 years ago to get my eyebrow pierced. That was only my second piercing other than my ears. They made me feel really comfortable back then just as they did a couple of days ago when I went in again for my labret piercing. As always I'm initially nervous getting anything pierced but the staff there soon made me feel so at ease that I was able to go through with it with absolutely little to no pain. It literally felt like a really quick pinch and it was done. I always feel like the biggest wimp afterwards... Hahaha

Anyhow, if you're interested in getting a piercing I highly recommend Body Manipulations. Aside from having a super-cool friendly staff they're also extremely clean. That scores big with me as I'm a little of a germaphobe and don't mind paying the extra money for being a completely hygienic environment.

Did I mention that I experienced no swelling at all? If that's not a testament to this fine establishment I don't know what is. Last but not least, big props to Jameson! He was my piercer (is that the correct way to say it?) and he was absolutely fabulous! If it wasn't for him and his badass tat's I wouldn't have had anything to look at as he ran a needle through my face. LOL!

I just bought new jewelry for my piercings here in the past few weeks.

$25ish on a titanium small curved barbell for my rook. $43ish for two small straight 18g barbells for my cartilage piercings. I thought the people were really helpful and I really love their type of earrings where there's no butterfly back or something else. It's this female/male type of earring so it stays on well and the back doesn't look ugly.

Both experiences were great, but I thought Oscar was especially nice and friendly. I usually get nervous and really shy at tattoo/piercing places, but he put me at east (albeit all he did was put an earring in my piercing).

Love their jewelry, will probably come back in the next year to get studs to replace some of the earrings on my lobes.

Ok, so I've never been pierced. But my gf has... here.. more than once... Every time we come here is a different, but good experience. We usually come here for Eldo, because, I mean, he's Eldo! My gf has known Eldo for a while, and every time we do come, he's always super nice and has great customer service! The staff here is very non-pretentious and open to all walks of life. From kids getting their first piercing to older veterans of the pierced world. I do not think we've ever come here to experience a bad one. Only thing is if you come here to get a piercing you always leave wanting more i guess.. plus you get that sore throbbing pain.. I wouldn't know, but thats what I hear.
Cheers to the staff at Body M.. let's hope Eldo comes back from SE Asia safe and back at Body M!

Tony is an amazing tattoo artist and incredibly friendly.
As I entered the business I was greeted with warm hospitality and waited five minutes while looking at the tattoo portfolios.
Tony took me to his studio and I was amazed at his sketch of my design, it completely exceeded my expectations!
Tony took his time while we both got to know each other which made me feel at ease and comfortable before starting the tattoo.
His tattoo style is very gentle and extremely precise.
Tony took his time with the outline then we both took a break.
After the break he inked in the color and for a while I fell asleep :)
When he finished I awoke to an amazing Tattoo in awe of the beauty and precision of what he created.
My tattoo is perfect and I couldn't be more satisfied; the outline is precise and tight and the color selection is complimentary and perfect!
Thank you Tony, you are the best!

LOVE THEM. If I could give them a bajillion stars, I would. That's really all that needs to be said. If you need more convincing, read on:

Had previously closed up nose piercing that I wanted redone. (Had for 10 years, out for over a year) I walked in, they suggested we try to stretch instead of re-pierce, we did, and I walked out. Simple as pie.

Best service experience I've had in a long time. Maybe ever.

I almost just want to give this place 4 stars, just to humble them a bit, but NO. That's just not fair.

My husband and I came here mid-day on a Monday to swap our my sub-par and very old cubic zirconia nose stud for a fancy diamond one. Now, I know this isn't the coolest thing to ask for when you walk into a piercing shop, but whatever. Anyway, Christopher helped me find the diamond studs and totally didn't make me feel like a douche for asking for one. He had some legitimate advice and I even heard him say "sparkly". Oooooh! That's what I want, for my nose to be SPARKLY!

Anyway, he promptly took us back into the piercing room and in 5 seconds flat and with no pain whatsoever removed my long-attached ugly old ring. Then, he bent up the new one, plopped it in my nose and I was done! Woohoo! I didn't have to pay anything for the service as long as I bought the stud there. All is well and Christopher made this mama happy! Thank you, Body Manipulations!

Been planning to get new, larger, matching jewelry before Folsom.  Stopped in to Body manipulations today finally to have it done.  Jameson helped me out picking jewelry and doing the stretching.  Besides knowing what he was doing, he was pretty easy on the eyes, too.  ; )
It went really well - the place is super clean and these guys were all courteous - made the whole experience comfortable and mostly painless.

As soon as you walk in you are welcomed by the amazing staff. I had my nose pierced on my trip to San Francisco. Eldo was very professional and explained everything before my piercing. After my piercing her explained in great detail the after care of my piercing. Three weeks later my piercing is healing very well and i have no problems. If I need any other piercing and I'm in SF I'm definitely going back. Thanks Eldo

I absolutely love this place.
I've been meaning to go back and get my septum pierced again.
These people are super fucking nice, and there's definitely no stuck up people here.
They are helpful, and their Dr. Suess bed paper will make you feel better. Plus their bug room is really great to check out while you're getting pierced.
Will go back there every time.

Having been at least a few times this is as good as it gets anywhere that I've found.

No matter how often you get this kind of work done it's always exciting, that's half the fun anyway, right? ;)  I've got a little bit of the adrenaline boost going, I'm a little verbose.  They're totally fine with it. I incessantly ask questions, they happily answer, never crash that excited feeling.

Why are there preserved insects on the walls?
Why is there a Dremel too over there?
Is this Dr. Seuss table paper?
Will that be going into me?

With a smile, they don't miss a beat (especially Christopher).

Everybody there I've dealt with knows exactly what they're doing. Especially with the details, the subtle nuances of the body that make the difference between good and fantastic work. Knowing  what will settle as it heals, what needs special attention, how some part will part of you will age and then compensate for that.  All of it very well thought out.

Well kept location, friendly staff, great work and a funny cactus - they're my favorites.

this place is really awesome. I initially got my lip pierced by Eldo 4 months ago and since then gone through 2 incidents where I needed a professionals help. First, due to me playing with my stud often the backing to the jewelry healed under my scar tissue. I immediately called the store and asked for help. They told me to come in right away no appt necessary. Secondly, I took out my lip ring for a job interview for an hour and couldn't get it back in. Again, I called for help and was told instantly to come on down. Now thats RAD customer service. Since Eldo, two different guys piercers have helped me and never made me feel like a dumbass! Thank you!

So I didn't really intend to go here.  I was stopping by Black & Blue Tattoo (just down the street) and hoping to get a tattoo done on the same day.  That wasn't gonna happen given that they require a consultation.  So instead, I said, "what the $%@$%" and found my way into Body Manipulations.

Not sure of what I wanted, I spoke to the staff there for quite a while to weigh the pros and cons and looks.  Everyone was very friendly and helpful.  And everybody smiled the entire time.  There's nothing like a smile to calm you down when you're thinkin about how that same person is likely to be driving a needle through you in just 20 minutes.  Seriously, dude... think about it.

After makin my selection, I had to wait maybe 20 minutes before getting in to one of their private rooms to get my piercing.  While I can't remember the name of the technician, he was very professional and explained each and every piece of equipment, and each and every step.  He was even gracious enough to tell me... "no, it won't really hurt... I'll go really fast."  Yeah, my ass!  I would later find out that some piercings hurt more than others and I of course chose to have the most painful possible (so I'm told) as my first.  At least I can put my fear of needles behind me.  LOL

So you might think that's the end of the review... but no it aint.

First, this shop was AWESOME at telling me over and over about how to care for my piercing.  They gave me all kinds of info, salts and such to make sure that I stayed healthy.  They were genuine in their concern for their customer.  Thanks, guys.

Second, they emphasized over and over that if I wanted to make any changes to the ring, they would be happy to help me out and make the change over for me.  I thought that it would be unlikely that I would need their help for such a change over... but low and behold when I decided 8 months later that I wanted to step it up in ring guage and had MASSIVE difficulty getting the new ring in... I finally decided to go back after 2 hours of trying and trying on my own (I even bought the special tools and all)!  I walked in, told them my issue and they instantly knew what to do, grabbing a room, a taper and a few tools... I was in and out of there with my new ring in less than 15 minutes (no exaggeration.)

I loved this place the first time.   I loved this place the second time.  I'd go back again and again... if I was gonna get pierced again and again... but I'm not!  LOL.  Just take it from me... this place is THE place to go.

Eldo is my hero... and my new piercer! I have been wanting my nose pierced for over a decade. Recently on a new kick to do things for myself, I FINALLY got the courage to do it. OK when I say courage... er... well maybe that's a little too much. Actually I am a huge chicken - the chickiest chicken you will probably even know! I shake, throw up, cry, faint, and scream at even the idea of blood & guts.

So on a sunny Sunday afternoon, this chicken and walked herself down to Body Manipulations full of confidence and glee. When I got there my best friend had already arrived to support me. I took one look at her and reality kicked in. I burst into tears. Somehow, what felt like 5 hours later, she finally coaxed me inside. I tearfully picked out a sparkly nose stud.

Next thing I know I was somehow in the back room sitting on Cat in the Hat exam table paper alone with this tall guy named Eldo. I was shaking. I felt like I want to die. My face was hot. My feet were cold. I felt alone (note my friend waited outside because she is also a chicken). I wanted to go home.

Eldo could tell I was scared. More than scared. He spoke to me in a low, calming voice and explained step by step what he was going to do. We came up with a plan together on how we were going to get the needle through my nose and how I was going to survive. Step by step we got through the process.

We were finally at the last step... Snap! It happened in a matter of 1-2 seconds. I was stunned. Wait, what? That was it? After all the stress, crying and fear this was what I was scared of??? I felt a bit sheepish. It didn't even really hurt! I looked up at Eldo my eyes wide with disbelief. He just smiled. He knew. He just knew how it was.

Now I'm hooked.

I LOVE Eldo. I LOVE my new nose ring. And I LOVE the way Eldo explained exactly how to take care of it, what to expect, and told me when to come back for a better fitting. What a sweet guy!

I have a new piercer.

This place is awesome. Everything was so clean. The staff was very nice. I was greeted by Stephanie. She helped me pick out my nosering. Eldo was my piercer. He was so gentle and funny. He made sure I knew what he doing. He definitely knew what he was doing.

The next time I came in, Jennifer greeted me. She was nice, but she was a little rude. Steve took care of me. I had a scar tissue forming, and he told me how to take care of it. He was very knowledgeable. I would definitely recommend this place.

I went down to Body Manipulations today to get some old piercings re-opened.  Within a minute of walking in the door, they had me sitting on a table in back getting ready.  I found them to be friendly, professional, informative (talked me through each step they were taking), clean and thoughtful.  From the moment I walked in, I was treated with respect and kindness.

For future piercings, this is the place I'll go and will recommend them to all my friends.  It's rare that you find a place that treats you like a friend.

A few years ago, I pondered getting a navel piercing.  I know.  I know.  I was going through a rough patch ... a breakup, not happy at work, depressed in suburbia, blah blah.

Welp, no such respite.  I mustered up my courage, marched into the store guns ablazing, only to be informed by the kind people at Body Manipulations that my belly button is too narrow. What?!! Belly buttons can be too narrow? So crushed. The one crazy thing I've wanted to do and foiled!

Well, I was going to pierce something gosh darnit. So, are you ready for this? I got a second piercing on my earlobe. I know, you're impressed. I am a lioness! Rawr!

So yeah, I know, probably the most boring thing ever, but for a shop that is known for hard core body manipulations, they took my little ear-piercing seriously. They were ultra hygienic, gave me plenty of good advice for keeping it clean from infection, and let me fuss over the perfect location for it and did not make me feel like a lame-o whatsoever. Even if I winced like a baby.

oww. OWWWW. OWWWWWWWWWWWWW.
OWWWW, this place is HAWT.

my bf got his first ever piercing here. he got his left ear pierced by eldo. the staff were laid back and friendly -- but also professional (haha, that sounded weird). we walked in, my bf told them what he wanted, and they explained everything to him. and, inside the little room where they pierced him, they let me take 409583406983 pictures of the process -- they really encouraged it! eldo really took the time to explain everything to my bf -- twice. hahaha. he was super patient, and let us know (as well as showed us) that everything --- EVERYTHING --- was used ONCE. the process was super clean and pristine.

I came here with a mixed bag of emotions.  I was excited and nervous and nauseous all at the same time... I came out deflated, defeated, disappointed but greatful.... lemme explain... bear with me...

I've been wanting my tounge pierced for a long long long time.  After a few false starts, I finally decided today's the day.  I arrived with the aforementioned mixed bag of emotions.  From the outside, the shop was clean, well lit and it didn't have that weird vibe eardrum blasting music going on.  I came upon Paul, who was busy arranging the display case, but stopped what he was doing when I walked up.  I calmly but with that wide-eyed excitement that I wanted to get my tongue pierced.  He said "Okay, let's have a look at that tongue first."  Obediently I stuck my tongue out and then I heard him say a combination of awww and ohhh....  I thought to myself "well that can't be good" .. it turns out, my tongue was one of those tongues with an enormous amount of webbing underneath, which means, well, it's not gonna happen.  Paul gently explained to me why I can't my tongue pierced and how it would not be very comfortable or good for me to have the piercing at weird angles.  An unscrupolous shop owner would see me as a money and pierce me anyway, but Paul was more concerned for my safety and comfort and was kind enough to give me options.  Judging by that alone, you can tell that this shop is not just some profit oriented shop where quantity matters... they really do care about their clients even if it means disappointing clients for the clients' sake.  Although I didn't get the piercing that I wanted, I left with the feeling that I was not just some waste of time for the staff.  The work speaks for itself.  That plus an awesome staff, makes this shop the best. :)

This is by far the best piecing studio in town.

I've had a variety of body parts pierced here over the last 10 years, and no matter who's behind the counter or doing the piercing, they are *always* really, really ridiculously professional, nice, CLEAN, and non-douchey.

I briefly debated getting my dermal anchor piercing at a shop on Haight Street that I had never been to before (since it's closer to my house than Body M), but I really didn't want to risk dealing with potential attitude, so I hoofed it to Body M instead.

I'm glad I went with my instincts:  Steve inserted a bitchin' dermal anchor piercing in my wrist yesterday, and he did a fabulous job.  I can't wait until it heals so I can bling it out!

I wanted to get my lip pierced and came here to see what all the hoopla was about. the girl at the counter was extremely friendly and helpful while answering my n00bie questions, which made me feel a lot more comfortable coming here (compared to my previous experience at cold steel on haight)

so after thinking over it, I decided to get it done here. the shop is extremely clean and the piercing experience was quick and (fairly) painless.  they even threw in a pack of the sea salt when I was done, while I had to pay for this at the other shop.

a few days after my piercing, my lip swelled up pretty badly and I knew something was up.  I went back here and thank goodness the piercer , Christopher happen to be at the counter.  they looked at it, no questions asked, brought me back into the room immediately and swapped it out for a longer bar. and now my lip is happy again and healing like a champ! :)

I've been waiting 15 years to get this specific piercing done and I was not going to have an amateur job performed so, i headed to Body Manipulations.

Their quarters were clean, well presented, and the staff at the front counter was very helpful in answering my questions and assisting me with picking a stud.

The piercer, Eldo Chan, was nothing short of professional and personable with 8 years of piercing experience to boot.  He was sure to get me educated on all the steps before, during, and after the piercing.

For a business that has been around for 20 years, they will not disappoint.  I give my full 5 stars to them, my recommendations to you, and a little reminder to myself the next time I need to get a bodymod.  :)

I've had many failed shopping-mall ear piercing attempts, so yesterday I finally went to Body Manipulations based on a friend's (and all of Yelp's!) recommendation. Jen and Eldo were extremely helpful and sensitive to my past failures and really took the time to talk me through my jewelry options, the piercing process, aftercare, etc. I'm hoping the 7th time is the charm. :)

And to second one of the other reviewers...yes, Eldo does rule.

Well you know how in my last post I said I wasn't a fan.. yet?  Here's why.. I live really close by and I enjoy getting pierced.  Nothing super exotic, but it seems to be a trend that when I feel like I need to take control of my life again I get another hole punched.  Seriously, I can tell a story behind each of my silly little ear piercings.. they're all significant (to me).

So when I decided to drop in to get my tragus pierced I had a feeling they'd win me over.  Literally I stopped in between work and buying groceries.. there was a parking space right out front for me, it was made to be.  I walked in and I wasn't nearly as intimidated as last time.  I started talking to the receptionist/cashier and she helped me pick out a barbell post.  She also answered some questions about a possible tattoo project ;) And not 15 minutes later I was sitting on the Dr. Seuss paper-covered bench ready to go.

Steven was my piercerman, he was great.  We talked a little about why it's better to do piercings w/ needles instead of guns (w/ the exception of the lobes).  He talked me through what he was going to do, coached my breathing so I could stay calm while he poked me.  It was pretty quick, although not painless entirely.  (I will say I think the needle hurts more than the gun.. and feels pretty friggin' weird.  Like someone was sewing my ear!)  He also gave me tips on aftercare.  They let you keep the pen they used to mark your spot and give you a little container of sea salt for cleaning.

All in all it was a pretty great experience.  Although the only time I've ever been scared to get pierced was when I got my first pair when I was ten.. so maybe you shouldn't take my word for it.  Try it yourself!!  Piercings always heal if you change your mind ;)

Eh, this will be my most-updated review EVER.

I went back today, and I have to say, Eldo is one of the nicest guys. All I can say is that he definitely cares deeply about the well-being of his customers and will do everything he can to make it right. You would be hard-pressed to find that in another business owner - in my years of living in San Francisco I have hardly ever been treated so well by the business in question anytime there was a problem with a product or service. He is awesome. Go here. Just make sure you're not allergic to certain kinds of metals first.

I've got several things pierced here and it was all great and worthwhile.

Everyone here was very professional; they know what they're talking about and it's not intimidating at all.

I've been recommended this place even after I've been there a few times so I'm sure it takes the cake when I say that this is the place to go for piercings.

I've never been more happy with my piercings. Unfortunately some of them didn't work out, but it wasn't the fault of the piercers.

If I had the money and time and patience (as there's no ample parking) I'd go here for every and any piercing.

I've yet to experience their tattoos but I'd think they'd be just as great as the piercings.

I've never felt more comfortable in a body manipulation place, evar.

Thanks!

This place is A-M-A-Z-I-N-G compared to other piercing shops that i have been too. I don't think anything compares to Body Manipulations. The place resembles a doctor/dentist office. The service is super friendly and knowledgeable.

Chris pierced my septum and it was only a pinch! He made me feel comfortable even though i was super scared of the piercing because i thought it was going to be painful.

I have been going to Body M for the various holes in my face for the last 10 years (I think I just dated myself - oh well). I cannot recommend this piercing shop and its assemblage of extremely talented, creative, and professional staff enough.

The wait can be horrendous, so it's best to get there when they open.  Jewelry selection can be limited, but they will custom order for you if you can wait for delivery, though that's hard -  one usually just wants to get the damn thing done now, because you are so stoked to get a new piece. =)

There is a reason this is the oldest, most reputable shop in San Francisco!

Made my way here last night at the end of the day. After reading everyone's praise for Eldo I knew he was my man. Had him do both of my conch's and he made it a great experience. Took a lot of time making sure the positioning was perfect and making sure I was happy with the placement.

As noted by everyone, this is a super clean spot which is great cuz that is really where problems with piercings come from.  I know that my conch's should have hurt more than they did, so I don't know what magic eldo did, but I'm pretty happy.

Thanks Eldo!

From the words of my  boyfriend:

Eldo did a fantastic job on his nipples. Straight, level, nearly painless experience and totally professional.

I personally was impressed at how extremely clean he kept his area and his hands and needles especially.

I've had a double digit amount of piercings put in my body over the past 10 years and honestly he's the most professional and serious artist I've met in 4 metropolitan cities. Mad kudos to Eldo Chan. You're worth a trip back to San Fran anytime sir.

Eldo really is the greatest! I went here Friday evening with my friend who decided to pierce her lip (who was also present when I got my piercings done in december) and wanted Eldo to do it because of my piercing experience with him.

I haven't been back to the shop since my last piercing in december and I was wondering if he still remembered me and he did, name and everything! He was just as cool and friendly as the last the visit. He even remembered my friend too, which was also nice.

Luckily I also had a reason for being there (other than being there for my friend)...I was there to downsize some jewelry and to special order a nicer, jeweled one for my...*ahem* other piercings.

My friend's piercing turned out fabulous. Very subtle and feminine and Eldo was wonderful as always. He's really fun to talk to and still makes you feel comfortable before, during and after the piercing. I told him that I want to get something else done, but I've just about run out of places to pierce (surface piercings and facial piercings are a no-go for me) !

OMG!  no wonder BodyM has over 200 reviews more than other tattoos shops in bay area.  Customers relations was super excellent.  They know how to make customers satisfied.  Most tattoos shops doesn't care after they become famous. Clean environment btw.  I'm tattoo fan, I got my custom design with YOSHI from Japan. Awesome artist and all the BodyM members really rock! If you have chance to go once, you should go back again. oh not done yet... Big guy Eldo help me out alot, great communication via email or phone to set up my appointment.  You guys A+

Got my lip pierced here.  I had the quiet blonde guy that was very emo.  But I didn't care.  I hate those chittery chattery ones that are all hyped up about MY piercing anyways..  It gets me nervous. its like "damn, calm ur ass down.  you got gazillions around your face and god knows where else. Let ME get excited." so yea..I just wanted my shit pierced.

Brought my 2 sisters so they can document it and it was a blast.  THey got free lollipops and had a kick lookin through the binder of x-rated piercings.  When it was time to get down, middle sister gave some support while the younger one video taped the whole thing.  Process was quick and swift.  Hurt like a muphuck tho, I ain't gonna lie.  But afterwards, he told me only what he had to, let me know what I needed to know, and answered all my questions. none of that extra fluff.  It was come in, do the business, and get out...just how i like it..
