Hayward is a city where there is a limited amount of good places to eat. I would say that Hoagy Steak Bob's is a pretty good place to eat. It is located on Mission Boulevard in the plaza with the very visible Burger King.
I don't know if you can call this restaurant a hole in the wall because it looks really old and beat up.. If you get passed that, then go grab a menu.. they have many types of Hoagy Steak varieties and are cooked to order, so it will be piping hot straight off the grill... they have pretty big portions so you will sure to have left overs. I would have rated this place higher but, they really need to clean up and fix this place because it really looks messy.. other than that, Yo adriannn! good place to go when you have that Philly Cheesesteak craving!
YUMMY!!!! Yes this place is the best! When i want to indulge and say screw it to my diet..haha i go here!
It is a hole in the wall, but oh so good and the service is wonderful. They are so sweet and make you feel welcomed.
My reccomendation though is get yours without the mayo, they grill the bread i believe with butter then slather it with mayo, it tastes so greasy, without the mayo its perfect...haha! That is how i get it now.
I highly reccomend this place! Yummy!

This place is in the back corner of a dumpy strip mall, but the Chessesteak sandwiches are great! I always get American cheese and add mushrooms. Sandwiches accompied by a good helping of steak fries. I've heard "The Cheese Steak Shop" is opening soon in Hayward and Union City, but I will remain loyal to this family run restaurant!
This establishment is run by one of the most hardworking people. From open to close, they are bustin their butts to help all their customers.. dine in, or pick up. Although service is not their number one product, their sandwiches are probably the most delish that I have ever had which makes up for whatever else is missing.
I personally don't care about how a place looks like when I'm hungry. Everyone is right when they say that its your hole in the wall, but like i said, if you are looking for a juicy, meaty.. melt in your mouth sandwich.. then come here. you wont regret it.
Had a craving for Cheese Steaks and been passing this location for several years and decided that today would be the day I would stop in and get a Cheese Steak Sandwich.
Hoagy Steaks Bobs is located in the corner of a strip mall off of Mission and Industrial. You have to look carefully because you'll miss it unless you're looking for it. It's a small little dumpy dinner. A true "hole in the wall" kind of place. The menu's are on laminated 8.5 x 14 piece of paper. They only offer basic sandwiches, hamburgers, and it looked like about 6 - 7 different types of cheesesteaks with a choice of regular or mini. Prices here are ok. Nothing here is over $10 and the mini cheesesteaks start $5.50 (mini) and go up to about $8.
I put in an order for a mini cheesesteak with mushrooms. I sat at the counter and watched them make it on this large grill. It took about 5 minutes and they put it in a box with plenty of fries. I got to my lunching spot and dug in. The cheesesteak was pretty good. Meat was nicely diced and tender and plenty of peppers, mushrooms, and melted cheese on it. I was disappointed that a mini is only 3 inches yet I paid $6+ for it. The fries were total disappointment. They were your Costco steak fries. Very bland and need seasoning to. Too bad I got a lot of fries instead of a lot of sandwich for $6+.
So as to the rating, if my fries were better, this place would rate better. But blah Costco steak fries don't sit too well with me. Also even though the sandwich was good, I ended up paying like $7+ (including tip). Not much of a bargain where most places for $7 you will get a 6 inch cheesesteak, fries, and drink for the same amount of money. But the cheesesteak was good and since it's close to both work and home will stop by sometime in the future if just looking to get a cheesesteak and go, otherwise, it's not at the top of my list and will look for other options where there is more value and better fries. 3 Stars and just average for Hoagy Steaks Bobs.

I gave minus one star at first for that one time they charged me for a side of ranch. When the young guy is working, he gives a lot and it's free! When I asked one of the older ladies, she charged me a quarter and gave it in a really small plastic container. But I had to go back and change it to 5 stars because their hoagy steaks are just TOOO GOOOD. mmm mmmm!
Okay having been here 4 times and questioning the authenticity of some of these reviews I have to speak. 1st Visit: A 3 star sandwich nothing great nothing overly abundant meatwise just average. 2nd Visit: Got a mushroom burger..... uhhhh put a burger on a fuckin bun you lops. I dont need 2 extra inches of bread sticking north and south to my east and west burger. Again Burgers go on BUNS not hoagy ROLLS. Burger is your standard quarter pound precooked shit patty you buy in a case of 500 at your local big box store. Fries come out of a 50 lb bag purchased at the same big box store I'm sure. 3rd Visit (wife picked up) 2 regular cheesesteaks..... again average flavors but even less meat than visit 1......sad bastards. 4th Visit (and last): Myself and 3 friends stopped after a show and made it 20 minutes prior to closing..... we were told that the grill was off and they were closed. Guy said if we really wanted something he could warm the grill back up.... we said later tard.

you know its a bummer i got to say this but i used to love this place UNTIL I found a long ass WHITE hair in my philly cheesesteak... gross. haven't been there since, i just can't let go of the fact that there was that gross long hair in my food and when i told the waiter he was like "NO ONE HERE HAS WHITE HAIR" and i looked and him and said well it didnt come off of my head he didnt even comp. the meal i still paid for it...why? becuase i am not one to start a ruccus (sp) but its a shame i USED to like this place!
Great Hoagy cheese steats!!! This is the spot. Everyone in the hood goes to this spot!!! Delux Hoagy Cheese steak, fries, and a rootbeer = $6!!!! What a Deal!!!

OMG this is THE BEST FREAKIN place I have ever had a cheesesteak. The meat was tender and juicy, loaded with onions and cheese...............the fries were good and crispy and warm on the inside..............holy crap, im definitely going back!

A family ran resteraunt. The best cheesesteaks ever, along with a variety of other great food. This has been my favorite place to eat since 1994. It's in the corner of a shopping center down the street from my house. Dee-licious food. Very welcoming setting. They never dissappoint.
Yuuuummm. Had the Hoagy Steaks and it was sooo good. Full of cheese, lots of meat, and mushrooms, topped with tomatoes. Comes with a side of fries. Mmmm.

Wow! It really is located in the ghetto! My fiance saw one of her defendants stoned off his ass the night we ate here. Cheesesteaks are pretty good...kind of taste homemade though, and I don't actually mean that in a good way, more like it didn't really feel like we were eating out. The cheesesteaks would be much much better if they offered sweet and hot peppers (a la Cheeseteak shop). If not anything else, I'm glad I made it out alive!
The best Hoagy Steaks ever!! Thanks to cousin GuamBtrfly for introducing this place. It is a hole in the wall but the best. The meat is never dry. If you like mushrooms try it with your cheesesteak. They are pretty well sized. This is a sandwich were you can't substitute or omit anything because you'd be missing out. Bring an appetite and your hankies...you'll be so happy..you'll cry. The place is located in a shitty area though

Some of the best cheese steaks around! These are real- not like the cheese steak places in the mall. Good portions. Incredibly cheap, lots of meat and veg & fries too.
It is in the ghetto. I don't go there for dinner, even though I used to live right around the corner!
