No frills atmosphere, down home cooking and one of the best values in town.  Most entrees are under $10, and there is a good selection of side items.  Many of the entrees are what I would call "scalable".  For example, you can order chicken in white or dark meat, in two different portion sizes and with one or two side items.  They offer a very limited selection of beer and wine, and they also carry coffee by Port City Roasters and a large selection of locally made Squamscott sodas (birch beer and cream soda, to name a few).  The pies and desserts are home made and large enough to share.

This is a great place for some home style cooking in a very relaxed, simple atmosphere.  It is a locally owned establishment which has been here 20 years, and it is a welcome break to the palate and pocketbook from the more typical downtown Portsmouth fare.

Probably not for a tourist who is looking to explore the myriad fine eateries of Portsmouth, but again, a nice place for locals, and a good, balanced, inexpensive meal for families, students, seniors and anyone who just needs a little break from downtown.

Located at the Gallagher's Place strip plaza, Bob's Broiled Chicken is one of those hidden gems, which serves up great tasting rotisserie broiled chicken for dine-in or takeout. The menu also offers chicken tenders, wings, pot pie, haddock, salads, soups, sandwiches, tasty sides, kids meals, cold & hot drinks, and desserts. Weekday Lunch Specials served 11:30AM to 3:00PM. Beer and wine are available. See the menu at http://www.bobschicken...

The full service dining room has booth & table seating with red and green painted walls with country decor like the holidays at Grandma's. The clientele seems to attract an older crowd because the prices here are very reasonable with good food portions.

Recently, I stopped here for takeout and got the Cold Sliced Roast Chicken Wrap (wheat) with a side of sausage stuffing & corn bread ($7.00 with tax). The Chicken Wrap was very tasty, which had cold juicy cubed chicken slices, lettuce, tomato slices, & mayo in a wheat wrap. However, the wrap was very fragile and fell apart as I was eating, messy-messy. The sausage stuffing and sweet cornbread were very good as well too. Can't wait to come back for more!

I like it.  My wife usually suggests Bob's and I'm glad to go along.  The chicken is moist and delicious, the mac and cheese is very good, and the cole slaw is tangy.  They have coupons and cards that they stamp when you go.  Eat 6 meals and get $5 off the next one.  Prices are good so $5 makes a difference.

The atmosphere is nothing to write home about and it's not the best place for a first date but it matches the price and the interior is very clean.

We have eaten there 3-5 times.  But the last visit was probably the LAST VISIT.

We were there when a few other tables were occupied.  We were seated and had our drink orders taken/delivered.  We ordered dinner.  People kept coming in and filling up the whole place (all tables practically occupied).  People who came in AFTER us (i.e. 3+ groups) were served, and over an hour later we still sat there waiting for our food.  The servers never even realized we weren't eating or unhappy.  As we walked out, they called to each other "they won't wait".  HUH!?  We waited over an hour for nothing.

The food is mediocre.  Healthy.  I really love the cornbread and the blackened chicken.  But not worth an experience like above.

This is a great inexpensive comfort food place. I usually get the boneless buffalo tenders extra hot with mashed potatoes and broccoli from their take-out menu and it's usually pretty good.

I love this place.  It's reasonably price, with good food and great service.  The atmosphere, as others have said, leaves much to be desired, but for good food and value Bob's is an absolute gem!
