Oh how I wish I lived in New York so I could go to Bob's every Thursday night.  And why was I only introduced to this place on my last visit --beats me--but I'm not gonna complain.  I LOVE THIS PLACE!!  It wasn't too crowded, but we did get there after midnight,  I don't remember paying a cover charge--even better.  After a few Jaeger bombs we were feeling good and dancing up a storm.  The DJ played a good mix of hip hop and top 40.  He even obliged when I asked him to play California Love--our favorite jam when we're away from home--the locals weren't feeling that song but us Californians were.  I can't wait till my next trip to the NYC, so I can go back to Bob's!

Went here on a Saturday about a month ago with friend of mine (who's a local). I was visiting and was in the mood for some dancing....wow! Did I come to the right place. First of all, it's 30,000 sq feet of dance floor (well, I didn't measure it but it's big, big...).

I really wanted to get my groove on so I wasn't looking for electronica crap, house or any other music that simply repeats the same damn beat over and over again. I was looking for old school stuff, hip hop with serious dance rhythym, etc. FOUND IT!

Got there at 11p. Perfect time. It was just getting started. Music was a bit week at first (Like a Virgin Madonna, Funky Town, Kool & the Gang etc--fun, but only for a while). Then, at about 1130p the DJ kicked it up a notch no doubt.

It's too bad I was totally L.A. and was ready to leave at 2a. NY is like Eurpoe. Party doesn't get started till midnight and goes on to 4-5a. This L.A. girl can't handle that given that our "last call" is at 1:45a. By 2a, I'm ready to call it night-night.

Cool time though and I sooo recommend it!!! Oh, 4 stars because then by 1:30a it got sooo crowded, we couldn't really dance anymore.

Came here on a Saturday night which was probably a big mistake.  The place is small and as soon as I walked in, the crowd of people already jammed in there was right in my face.  There was hardly any room to move around and getting to the bar to order drink was a pain in the @ss.  Getting the drinks to your party was even more of a challenge.

Not a lot of seats or a places to set your drinks on.  The crowd was all right but it was so crowded we were constantly running into people.  Mix that in with drunk girls not aware of their surroundings and jerk off guys trying to rub up on any girl passing them by....just not a fun night.

They did play some good hip-hop and the two bartenders that night did a good job of keeping order at the bar.  Maybe on a weeknight it might be better but it'll take a lot to convince me to go back to this bar.

I love black music.  I really do.  When Hip Hop Hooray comes on my Pandora, I instinctively wave my arms to one side and then point to the other side just like Naughty by Nature did in the video in 1994.  bOb has been doin' it and doin' it and doin' it for years...always authentic, always real, I feel like I'm the Jewish guy sweating it up in a real life version of that mural they show at the end of Good Times with Jimmy Walker, and yes the music is so kick-ass there's no way you will leave without saying Dy-no-mite.

I'm now very thankful that I was that guy who watched countless hours of Yo! MTV Raps and got in the middle of dance circles at bar mitzvahs circa 1992 because when people huddle around me and yell "Go whiteboy", I can still represent.

If you can't feel this spot, then I'm sorry, you just got no soul and I don't want to hang out with you.

Bob's was one of the first bars that I would "frequent" as a young shark in the water.  The place was always packed and on weekends the cover was usually $5.  I never had a thing to complain about here.  The talent showed mad love and the ease of transactions helped transform me to the hedge fund manager I am today.

But nowadays, that crowded, hot atmosphere has run its course.  I would probably go again during the week just to cool out, but on the weekends I'll do something else.

The drink prices are reasonable for LES and NYC in general.  I wouldn't talk you out of going here if you're between the ages of 21 thru 26.  You'll definitely have a lot of fun.

But once your swag reaches top level, the meatpacking district awaits you.

Stankonia...

I could deal with the hot sweaty crowd if the music wasn't so wack every time we went! We tried to give it more than a couple of tries but to our dissapointment it was the same old hip hop and  a very suspect looking crowd!  Not our first choice!

In search of a true lounge we couldn't find (I swear they don't exist in NYC), we ended up at bOb. Our first time was a Thursday, the night MJ passed away.

We walked in, no cover, and the place was so dead I'm surprised a tumbleweed didn't roll through. There was one other party occupying a table and a couple of strays chatting with the bartenders. We went up to the DJ to ask him if he'd play some Beyonce (don't judge).

'Hi, we were wondering if you'd play- '
'Let me guess, you want to hear MJ?'
'Uhm, no...'  (bashful and ashamed)
'No?'
'No... Beyonce?'
'Oh.......... I'll see.. what I can do.'

About half an hour later, no Beyonce, and place was still empty, so we left.

We made our way back to bOb last Friday with a $5 cover and it was overflowing with a refreshing variety of people; not one ethnic group dominated the space and I love a melting pot. The DJ was a party superhero - he played a perfect mix of hip hop and pop that had everyone on their feet and not in a stampede out the door. After lots of dancing, we found a place to sit down, another bonus. We ended up talking to a bunch of random people about random stuff that only comes up after random drinks.

Props to bOb for a good time! It's the kind of place where you wanna dance like no one's watching. I learned my lesson too, I didn't request Beyonce the second time around. Since the DJ played 'Single Ladies' anyway, yesss.

Great old school hip hop with some new songs in between. Great selections of cocktails at decent price. Low key location and low key crowd.

I like the vibe and price of this place. It is a great extended happy hour/party spot for a Thursday night. Not sure how it is on the weekends tho.

This is the perfect place to come and dance. The music ranges from top 40 hits, to much-more obscure hip-hop and techno, to classic 80s hip-hop. I was in here one night and the DJ served up some Kanye followed up by - I kid you not - Vanilla Ice. Word to your mother.

Since this place is clearly meant to be a place where you can come dance, people come here to dance. A lot of them, and this place is tiny so it fills up fast and not everyone can fit. A few friends of mine couldn't get in one night because they were above capacity. However, if you get here early (say around 10:00pm) not only do you beat the cover charge, but you'll also beat the crowd.

There's also a nice selection of unique drinks, most of which are of the sweet, less alcoholic variety (better for the light-weights in your party) but more importantly, the drinks actually aren't that expensive!

I had a birthday gathering here a couple of weeks ago and had a great time.  The venue is very small but the music was spot-on.  My friends and I danced and sweated up a storm, literally.  Bob reminded me of a really great basement party where the music is awesome and you're surrounded by even more awesome friends.

I worked with Stan from the bar who let my friends and I in with no cover until midnight.  A lot of my friends ended up paying $5 to get in, but honestly I wasn't in any state to pay attention to the time and wasn't sure if it really was before or after midnight when they got there.

Drinks were moderately priced and the bartenders were friendly.  I don't know if I would be so eager to come back to Bob with a $5 cover, but if I heard about a party where I could get in for free, I'd be excited to come back to Bob and dance the night away.

From the first time I went here I was hooked. Hooked!

This joint is a little grimy, a little sketchy, and it ain't much to look at, but it's not without its ambiance. I feel like the place should be in Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn it's so "real hip-hop" (without the Bed-Stuy violence).

It's a standard bar (they could use a better beer selection), some cheap peripheral seating, and the rest is all dance floor. Beautiful!

The vibe is always hip hop--sometimes outdated--but the ethnic mix is like a Benetton ad. A girl or guy for you no matter your tastes, and I have a lot of tastes (and the ratio is always excellently close to 50-50). It ain't that prettied up Meat Packing or Chelsea crowd, but real hotties with real (non Gossip Girl) style do abound. Be forewarned girls, so do those creepy passive-aggressive dudes who before you know it have slithered up behind you on the dance floor and are air-butt-humping you. Luckily they buckle and cower under the slightest sign of rejection.

I close out the night here nearly every single Thursday night (and I've grown to recognize a lot of regular faces).

Love it. If you're just looking to drink and dance free of hipster douche bags, testosterone boys, and faux glamor girls, bOb might be the only spot in NYC. It stays real. It stays dope.

Sometimes you go out with friends; sometimes with your friend; sometimes to maybe meet that "your" friend; sometimes to try a new place and Yelp it (is that my main reason now??).... you use to dress up a little, a little bit more or "to impress"...

BUT... sometimes you go out looking for your music, because you need it, you just want to feel it all around you.. right?

if its hip hop / R&B.... go to bOb. No matter how you dress, no matter when.. is just one of the  "Best I Ever Had" ..It's like if I was DJ-eing there. Did they stole my i-Pod?

The drinks are quite cheap and not bad. Enough to keep your hydration level.

so Yeah, I know;  I'm not rating as 5 and it's because the attitude of some pple there. And this is also part of bOb. Some of them think you are the prettiest... "you know he wants you" that's the feeling. And I told you, tonight I'm dating the music. And its crowded; the place is small, so it doesn't help.

But at the end I can deal with the "minus star " issues and I'll keep coming back .. I'm maybe "Obsessed", but bOb is my music

I think I would be annoyed if I had to pay a 5 dollar cover to get in here (waived due to a friend's birthday party, and being on "the list").

Before midnight, the bar is manageable, with enough room to dance in our own little space and even have a dance circle with people getting down in the middle.  But once it nears midnight, fuggedaboudit.  The only dance you'll be doing is the sardine push and shove shuffle.

Beers are only $4, but my friend's mojito was a club-like $12, and shots are around $8.  Where are we, the Empire Hotel?  But like I said, even if you are willing to pay that much for a drink, it's still going to take you a good amount of time to get to the bar with all the other sardines attempting the same.

Music is generally good.  Lot's of old school hip hop!  Except I found that the good stuff came in waves.  So, I would be in total dance mode and then then next few songs would put me to sleep.

Lastly, I am about 5'6", and with a heel on I felt like one of the tallest people in the place.  One of the only tall guys was sporting a curly-haired mullet and 70's-style spectacles.  That was exciting to see every time I looked over the sea of people.

The music IS very good ("Too Close" by Next officially won me over) and the drinks ARE cheap ($4 beer), but none of that matters when you can't move, let alone dance.

The reports of bob's itty-bittyness are not exaggerated. It was fun and bearable when we got there around 11, but after 12:30 we had to escape. The rest of our party soon followed us to less crowded nearby bar.

I realize that I've been giving out a lot of good reviews lately. I don't like that about myself, but I guess I just don't bother to write reviews of places I don't like. This will soon change though, I promise.

In the mean time, Bob Bar is amazing! It's only detractions are made up for by how great it is. I mean, five stars equals "Woohoo! As good as it gets!" not "Perfect, absolutely nothing wrong". And by no means is Bob Bar perfect. It is small and... and... well that's about it. The bar space is small, the bathroom is tiny (the co-ed sink is outside the bathroom), the whole place is on the small side, ok?

However, where else can you find a place in Manhattan that spins music like this? Good Hip-Hop (old and new), Reggae, Dancehall, Pop and R&B. Everyone here seemed to be having a good time despite the size. Even though the bar was small, whenever I wanted a drink I got one in a very reasonable amount of time. A cute bartender never hurts either.

The inside decor is subtle but pleasing and it's easy to get to (right off the F) and in good spot to flag a cab for that drunken ride home.

All in all, Bob Bar is the best Hip-Hop spot I've been to thus far in NYC.

I am on a never ending quest to find a decent hip-hop club where people know how to dance... my friend strongly recommended this place, so I went out of my way to come here (it is in LES, not far from the box).

What a trash, it is like these youngsters were studying for exams in a nearby park and suddenly decided to go dancing w/o changing clothes or taking a shower. Besides, this joint also showcases lots of drunks, too many guys, no good looking people, mediocre DJ, and bad AC, or it is in a seedy neighborhood too... never again!

Came here after another bar since we knew this place was a little more reasonable. The bouncer charged us $5 entrance on a Thursday night that wasn't too busy, but we showed up around midnight so I guess the fee was a little expected. The place is tiny so it gets packed without even trying. The bar is in the back and is small, but the bartenders are able to spit the drinks out fairly fast and are friendly. Benches and tables line the walls. It was a slow night so it was only ok with lots of room to dance, but when it's packed, you can't move. Most drinks are $8-9 including tax... not sure if they include tip in that too. Never saw the other receipt.

I'm not sure how this place got so many good reviews. I went on a weekend with some friends - it was tiny, packed so tight I could barely move, smelly, sweaty, and just gross. It was so dark in there too. It seemed like an environment ripe for gropers. It was so uncomfortable that my party had to leave after 10 minutes, even after we paid the cover charge. Had I needed to pay more to get out of there faster, I would have.

I usually like the places that so many Yelpers do, so I was more than happy to go with the plan when a friend suggested we hit Bob bar on Friday night!

Also, I kind of like the sound of the name. Bob. Bobbiddy bobbity bob bar.

We ate at the newly opened Aamchi Pao in the west village, and our spirits slightly dampened by the rain and the mediocre vada pao, we headed to bob bar in 2 separate cabs.

Cab 1 with 4 of my friends reached at 10:40, and the remaining 5 of us landed up five minutes later. We were charged 5 bucks cover. My rating always drops half a notch for a place with cover, so we're standing firm at 4.5 stars. We enter, and order drinks. Weak. At 3.5 stars now. The place is about 10% full.

Then I realized that they hadn't charged our friends any cover! Nada, nothing, zero. I went out to pick a bone with the bouncer. He shooed me away, mumbling something about charging cover when the bar crowd exceeds some fixed number of people. Unless that number is 12, I'm not buying this story. 2 stars and no more.

Boo.

I might come back here to give Bobbidy a second chance because the music was decent, but not anytime soon!

Best DJ bar in all of NYC. HANDS DOWN.

The music pulls you up by the back of your neck and forces you to gyrate and move your body in ways you never thought possible. Its tiny. Gets packed as the previously reviewed Son Cubano does. But its better.

WAY BETTER.

The bartenders are easy to befriend and the door guy doesn't take his job so effin seriously as most door bouncers do. There's a very mixed crowd and everyone's there for a good time.

Come to Salon Bobby's as my close friend like to call it.

Nice little place for you to dance your heart out.

If you are looking for a place where the drinks are reasonably priced and the music is always good, this is it.
The dance floor might be packed later in the night but everybody is having a good time.  Squarish dance floor with a couple of tables and high chairs to rest your feet.  It feels like an underground club without being one.

Good times for girls' night out or when you have no idea where you want to go.  The crowd will get you moving on your feet!

Disclaimer:
My review credibility may become obsolete after reading the following schizophrenic  updates for bobs.

I don't know if it was the DJ named Church, or my Dominican dance partner named Abel or the multitude of vodka, or the fact that I finally was smart enough NOT to wear heels to this place that made this bob's experience the icing on my Magnolia cupcake...

Bob's to do list:
1.  Make friends with Church.  The DJ.  Not the religious establishment.  If you start spouting off knowledge about underground hip hop he will gladly accept your music requests.

2.  Make friends with Dominican dance partners.  Abel was ABLE to dance.  And apparently Monica was ABLE to keep up with ABEL.  Who knew that a white girl could dance Dominican AND Black (but not Indian though- see Element review for details).

3.  Drink vodka.

4.  DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT wear open-toed heels of any sort.  Firstly, it's not even worth it.  Nobody REALLY cares what you look like at Bob's.  Secondly, your beautifully pedicured toes will love you even more if you protect them from the grossness that lives on the floor by the end of the night.

(Oh and also.  Don't give your phone number to Abel.  Bad mistake.  I have a stalker now.  Eeeek.)

I'm quite torn. I really wanted to like Bob bar. I did. And I do. One day I just might be able to. But right now, I'm kind of blah.

Let's say my experience at Bob Bar was a sexual rendez vous with a male escort named... Bob. Bob was good enough to get the job done, but not fabulous enough that my next door neighbors heard about it. Bob was good enough to make me possibly call him back if none of my other booty calls are around, but not fabulous enough for me to make him my number 1 choice. Bob was cheap and fairly convenient, but not quite memorable. Except for the sweat. The sweat was memorable.

Other than that, Bob wasn't all that. I didn't kick him out of bed, but I didn't tip him, either.

I'd probably go back just for the doorman, though.  *Refer to prior reviews referencing my fetish for weirdly sexy middle aged white men*

Dear Bob,

Every time I've visited your bar I've had a very serious sing-a-long. Great. However, the excitement ends when I remember I paid a $5 cover charge and can no longer move because it's so damn crowded. Rude.

This place is literally a shit hole.  It puzzles me why people rate Bob's so high, u guys must be hi on some shit. The place stinks, the bath room is a crack in  wall; the average person cant even turn around in there. Whats up with the $5 cover i think they need to be paying people to party here.
I to like small intimate spots like this,  but this place holds abt 60/70 people tops, n i swear they cram 200 people in there on weekends. Forget abt the music, cuz there are good DJ's all over ny; its impossible to enjoy yourself  like this.  So y did i give them 2 stars?  6bucks a beer, n 7bucks for well drinks in the LES = 2stars in my book.

Telling people about Bob Bar always results in a response of "The bar is called Bob?"

This dark and cozy little space is a great little venue if you can handle the crowd it builds when it gets hopping.  I forgot where I read it, but it's true by the end of the night the bathrooms quickly turn into makeshift bedrooms for those so sexually charged they can't make it home.

The music here is great with the DJ always mixing things up seamlessly to keep the party going.

Drinks are the perfect balance of price and stiffness and the crowd is unpretentious.  It's everything you could want in a spot to hang.

Everyone here is just out to have a good time dancing, drinking and hanging out.

bOb . . . wow, I kind of can't believe I'm reviewing this place, but after visiting this establishment last night, I figured I needed to show some respect and offer up an apology for all the unkind words I have said about it.

Before last night, I used to be a bOb hater.  I'd met my coworkers here for drinks once or twice, and the first thing that came into my mind each time I went was, "Ick!  What is this place?  It's so crowded!  Everyone feels sticky!  I keep getting pushed around!  Can't even get to the bar!  AND I had to pay a $5 cover!  Ick!"  And that part was true -- I'd get there about midnight on a Friday or Saturday and the place was so packed I couldn't even really dance or enjoy myself.  But last night we had a final farewell night for a dear friend, and because this friend is one of the most quality people I know, I decided to check my snobbery at the door and hang out so we could spend one last night in NYC with her.

I arrived about 12:30, and of course, the place was packed, and no, I didn't even think about getting a drink for quite some time.  I tried to avoid various people that shoved me out of the way and just bopped my head to the music.  Around 1:30 or 1:45, though, something started to shift.  Some of the people who had pushed me earlier started clearing out,  we found a nice spot to the right of the bar that had cooling AC, and the lines relented enough for my friend to go get us drinks.

So by 2am I had a little space to dance, I had a nice Jack on ice to sip on, and whoa, the DJ starts busting out with some old school tunes from my junior high & high school days!  Tribe Called Quest, LL Cool J, The Boys (ummm I used to listen to "Aisha" on cassette tape!), Bel Biv Devoe (who can resist singing along to "Poison"?), Tupac, Snoop Dogg and more . . . he just kept mixing things up and keeping it going, and everyone in the whole place was enthusiastic about the music selection and couldn't stop dancing and singing along.  The DJ went on and played some Michael Jackson (i.e. the old good stuff from the early 80s), a little bit of dub, and then suddenly, Talking Heads are blasting!  Loved all of it, and from what I could tell, everyone else in the place did too.  I left about 3:30, and by that time it had gotten to feeling like a nice, chill little house party where the music could have just kept playing and people would have kept dancing and singing along & just feeling generally ok with life.

So I am happy to admit that I misjudged this place, and that I now understand why it has persisted so long in the LES bar scene, and why my coworkers like to go there.  Next time I go, I'll show up after 2am and I'll look forward to enjoying the very excellent DJ.

Yes the music is consistently good. The place is consistently packed + tinnnny. Try to get there early so you can grab some space on the couches lining the walls, or else you'll be bumped and spilled on every 5 minutes. Diverse crowd, people just out to have fun, not as much of a pickup scene.

I think I was expecting some magic after all the glowing reviews on yelp, but can't say that it's more than a reliable spot. It doesn't have much to offer (in terms of decor, drinks, crowd, VENTILATION, etc.) except good music (granted that is a very important factor).

Went to bOb Bar this past weekend when I was in New York visiting from Washington, DC with friends.  We were looking for a cheaper option with decent music, given that we had a dance-maniac, rasta hip-hop expert, a hipster teacher, and an impoverished Americorp worker.

Right off the 1 train, which was great.  The $5 cover was nice, as were the decently priced drinks.  I was mostly impressed with the DJ, especially his Caribbean set, which was a really welcome change from the old school hip hop typically played in clubs.

My major complaint is simply the amount of people they packed into such a small space.  By 1am, it had started to thin out a bit, but earlier in the night, I could barely get my dance on for all the people pushing through the crowd to get to the front door.

All in all, I'd visit bOb Bar again if I were in New York and people didn't have any better suggestions for a place to go out, but not one I'd put on my list of ultimate spots in the city.

Here's the run down.  If you do not love the vibe of a crowded, sweaty house party filled with people having a great time and doing what you're SUPPOSED to be doing on a Saturday night don't come.  However, if you get down like I get down you will not only love bOb but you will keep coming back like crack.  As far as I'm concerned it's the best hip hop spot in the city.  I had my birthday party here about two weeks ago and a few of my friends complained about the crowd but mostly everyone had a blast.

#1 is the DJ's.  The DJ's are ALWAYS on point.  i have yet to have a night at bOb's where i was able to sit for longer than 2 minutes.  the music is too good to waste time sitting down.  Old school, new hip hop, dancehall, r & b, reggae, pop and always the creme de la creme hits.  There is never the annoying replaying of the same damn track three times in the same hour.  They keep you on your toes.

#2 Drinks are affordable.

#3 The staff is friendly.  I spoke to Stan in advance to make sure that bOb would not be closed for a private engagement on my birthday and he went as far as to set up a guest list for my party without my even asking and dropped the cover for anyone on my list who came before 12am.  He was super sweet and accomodating and made me feel like a VIP.  I had a great b-day.

#4 There are PLENTY of spots to grab munchies afterwards and many clubs to hop to (if you need a break) before you inevitably decide to hop BACK to bOb.

Caveats: I will reiterate it does get crowded and the space is on the smaller side so if you're claustrophobic this isn't the place for you.

Bonus: All the single ladies, all the single ladies, all the single ladies, all the single ladies.  Great pick up spot....especially in the later hours.

The ambiance is great. The place is just as big as a large living room. By 11:30, its packed to capacity. Hardly any space to stand. Newer folks are generally asked to wait outside if the bar is already full. That perhaps is the only bummer. If you want to meet some decent crowd of desi/asian chicks, this is the place to be. The bar attenders were great. The drinks are a little expensive although they were nothing out of the ordinary. The bouncers were very friendly. If you want to avoid the cover charge of 5$, make sure you be there by around 10 on Saturdays. The other way would be to get to know the bouncers by name and by talking to them so that next time, a hug and a peck will take you in, even if you are standing in the end of the long line. (Girls, this is for you).
This was my first time to Bob Bar and definitely wont be the last time. Boo-yah!!

This past saturday, my friend had her birthday at bob bar on the Lower East Side. Naturally, I went on yelp first in order to get an idea of place. It looked great! In fact, I had never seen so many stars in my life--besides those gold ones on the bulletin board in grade school.

I walked in, well at least  tried to, but it was so crowded that I merely stood still until I was able to envision a path. Once I saw an opening, I made my way to the "table" designated for the birthday girl. I put table in quotations because it was quite small and there was hardly anywhere to sit.

I had previously that the drinks are cheap, but I got a shot in order to avoid inevitable spilling ($7 for chilled blueberry stoli). I liked the music (a mixture of top 40 and old school 90's and 80's) but it was simply too jammed for me to enjoy myself. After experiencing a bit of clausterphobia, I left.

Been out to Bob Bar 4 times, and have never been let down.  If you are the casual laid back type looking for a fun place to kick it and just have a good time, this is the place to go.  Come through in your kicks but don't look sloppy; dance the night away, just mind the person behind you.  True, it gets crowded, but isn't that when the party gets popping?  If it is crowded, then they must be doing something right!

I had my birthday party here.  It was planned last minute (talking about, calling Stan Thursday night saying I'm rolling 50 deep on Friday).  Emailed him a guest list and everyone got in plus whoever they came with.  I was late with the RSVP but my party got there early (830pm) got a table, and Stan gave us complimentary champagne :) (thanks, Stan).  I had such a good time and will always go back.  $5 charge at the door, but it's so worth de-stressing after a long week at work (frankly speaking, all four times going, can't remember paying...)  Bouncers pride themselves on not being assholes, and not assholes they are!  They're so nice and always good to chat with.

Crowd: A good mix of people and all easy going.  If you're looking for a trendy spot for a conversation with a girl, this is not the place to go.

Price: Average priced drinks from $4 Red Stripes - $8/$9 mixed drinks - isn't that everywhere?

Hope this helps,
D

Edited:
To be fair, I had a few drinks the night of my birthday and I'm a happy drunkard, so maybe that's why I like it so much.  As for dancing, I danced in corners and close with friends, so I didn't have too much of a problem because my crowd was so big. Dancing maybe be an over statement, two-stepping, four-stepping every other song is more accurate.

If i had to pay the door fee, my rating would have dropped.  It was only 5 dollars, but still too much for this type of atmosphere.

Crowd: A mixed group of people.  A good amount of easy going, fun loving people.  A handful of desperate guys that reeked of desperation (it's expected at any bar scene). A couple of confrontational drunk girls tryign to claim space in a packed bar.

Music: Good variety of music ranging from current top 20s, hip hop, and old skool.  I have one gripe, although the dj had a good selection of music....he played out the song a little too long.  Not sure if it was an off night or the dj is new....but the fade in and outs could have been a little smoother.

Drinks: About $9 for A shot of tequila (Patron).  This is on the pricey end for me.  I didn't get any mixed drinks here, so i have no idea how much they are...but i'm going to assume around the same range.

The place had a good number of people and enough elbow room to dance before 1am.  Once it hit 1am....there was an influx of people and felt like riding the train during rush hour.  There are two bathrooms (unisex), but the line went fairly quickly....there was always a line.  The bar is small, but the bartenders also worked fairly quickly and it didn't take much waiting to get liquored up.

Coming from a girl who loves to dance, I can't wait to go back.  The selection of hip-hop, old-school, funk, etc is perfect for REAL dancing.  The place was packed with some regulars and some newbies.  It is small but GOOD.  I'm so tired of those huge "dance clubs" where the only move the girls have mastered is the "bend and snap."  And aside from the pixie sized girl who kept bumping into me as her form of dancing, everyone here actually could dance and if not, they tried!

The cover charge, though my fabulous friends (girls) and I didn't end up paying it, is $5.  In my opinion -- totally worth it.

Fun! I'm all about the cheap stiff drinks, and Bob Bar was on it. It does get crowded and very hot...FAST! But, if that doesn't bother you, this is a really chill spot for some good hip hop music. The music ranged from Jay-Z, 2pac, Blackstreet, Rihanna, Pharcyde (!!), and the like. I was definitely feeling like I was back home minus the terrible hyphy mash-ups that plague the Bay Area bars/clubs.

This is my friend's favorite place in LES. So one night, I finally came along. Bored out of my mind, he catered to me and we talked shit all night. lol.

I'm not down, because they charge cover. Really? It's LES.

I'm not big on the music, it's too hip hop for a Saturday night. I'm just not that cool.

It's really small.

1st visit...really good music for dancing... mainly 90s hiphop/reggae mix....but there were way too many people in a small space and it took a while to get a drink from the small bar in the back  .. I'll probably go back though if I feel like dancing and pushing people out of my way..

2nd visit...While I Loooove the music every time ..It is way too hot and wayyyy to many people.  Their is not enough air and NO your ceiling fans will not cut it. There is no way I can have fun with a strange big girl's butt rubbing up on me because she has nowhere to dance in the packed out room.

We had such a fun time here. This spot def has a bay area vibe, so you are almost guaranteed to hear good beats. The place is small and starts getting packed around 11 so get there earlier to snag a table.

The bathrooms are a bit stinky but that's cool...just make sure to lock your door because the doors open right on to the dance floor.

I would give this place more stars if their drinks were not so ridiculously priced. It was def on the higher end for LES and for a spot that is not exactly upscale.

The crowd is pretty mellow and everyone is there to have a good time.

I'd love to give this place five stars, but the other Yelpers were right...this place gets crowded.  I don't mind a little crowd, but after two hours it just got to be too much.

I came here for a girl's night out on my bday and absolutely loved the music.  We arrived a little after 10 PM, and while there is a $5 cover, the bouncer let me in for free since he saw on my ID that it was almost my bday.  Wooo.  The music was a great mix of hip hop with a little pop, both current and classic.

I'd definitely come back for the music but hope to find a night it's less crowded...if that's possible.
