We dined there yesterday evening and had a very nice time. The location, with views of the bay, is quite fabulous (does the Newport Restaurant Group have some kind of inside track on great real estate for all their places?). It is off our usual beaten track of dining establishments, but I decided we needed to branch out every once in a while and try new places, and we're glad we did.
We started with the duck spring rolls, opting to try something besides the standard calamari or crab cakes. They were very tasty, crisp and flavorful; they definitely didn't skimp on the duck, as the flavor burst throughout the dish. One way I could tell it was a good dish (besides my own opinion), was that my fiancée ate her entire spring roll, as opposed to eating half and letting me have the other half, which is what she does with pretty much everything (bummer for me last night).
For entrees, she had the scallops, and I had a halibut special, both of which were yummy and very well presented. The serving sizes were good - not too skimpy, but not a huge serving that overwhelmed. . . just enough to satisfy. I love that.
Speaking of huge servings, we ordered the bread pudding for dessert, and it was HUGE! It could have easily satisfied a table of 4. It was so big I couldn't finish it, and I hate leaving food on the table. I'm not sure what they are trying to accomplish with such a large serving, not that I'm complaining, as it too was delicious.
Service was friendly and efficient throughout the evening.
One thing we did note about this place was the clientèle definitely skewed to the 50+ Caucasian crowd. There were lots of older couples there, and I don't think I saw another minority in the house (I'm Filipino-American). A little odd, but, then again, once I thought of the location, it sort of fit.

The Boat House Restaurant in Tiverton, Rhode Island, about 20 minutes outside of Newport, is a beautiful location for brunch or dinner, we had the latter. It's located right on the water and many of the tables line the windows for a great view.
We started out with the Hall of Fame Chowder, a creamy soup with baby Maine shrimp, chorizo and corn; the other appetizer being Native Oysters. For our main entrées: Lobster Scampi, which was a whole baby lobster tail, shrimp, scallops, tomatoes, basil, white wine and garlic butter and the other - Baked Stuffed Shrimp with lump crab, roasted corn stuffing, oven dried tomato and roasted red pepper coulis.
Everything was very very good. With 2 drinks, before tax & tip, around $100. Was well worth the (slow) drive to get there.

What a great place for a summer Friday night after a long week of work to be able to wind down with the cold drinks at the Boat House! Went here after visiting The Back Eddy one night - had rumrunners and lobster fritters out on the covered patio. Can't ask for anything better. Did take a look at the menu, and the food is pricey, but when you get out of your car and smell what they're cooking, I think you'll agree that its probably well worth the cost of admission. Drinks at the bar were reasonable too! Had a Crown Royal and Expresso and even the bar has a great view of the water.......it makes watching the boats going by that much better to have a good drink in your hand!
I went to the Boat House restaurant today with a large group of meetup people. There were 13 of us, and the restaurant was able to accomodate a large, loud group of people.
The restaurant is tucked in one of those gated-looking communities that I usually avoid like the plague, but it is right on the water, so you get lovely views. I bet it is incredible at sunset, as mentioned by other reviewers.
Most of the group got breakfast items (the Sakonnet Sunrise was popular), but I got a cup of the Hall of Fame chowder (good, spicy, not earth-shattering) and the Tuscan Panini, which has chicken, prosciutto, fontina, and a sun-dried tomato/basil pesto. The sandwich was delcious and came with a arugula pasta salad, yum.
Our waitress seemed a bit cranky with the table and drink refills were a bit slow (water anyway, there was always someone with coffee).
I'd definitely come back for another meal.

Awesome Waterfront Dining and Creative Delicious Food. I went here yesterday and sat outside at one of the first summery days yet this year.
Even though this restaurant is geared towards seafood and meat, a vegetarian can do well enough. My friend and I split a Golden Yellow Beet Salad, a Panini Sandwich with their homemade cole slaw and an order of hand cut sweet potato and russet potato fries. I thought it was good of them to bring dishes to the table already split and on separate plates. They even cut the half of the sandwich into 2 to make it seem like a whole sandwich.
The Golden Beet Salad was delicious. When do you usually see/eat yellow beets? They were paired with shaved fennel, fried chickpeas, arugula and a nice slightly spicy vinaigrette.
Their coleslaw rocks! The panini had grilled pineapple, mango, some kind of cheese I never heard of before...
The fries are some of the best sweet potato fries I have ever had.
Apparently they specialize in seasonal and locally grown food. The view of the water is perfect. Aren't we lucky to live in Rhode Island - the "Ocean State" where these kinds of restaurant experiences can be business as usual?
Wow! The Boat House has a beautiful view, excellent staff and a selection of delicious salads, panini and, of course, desserts!
This type of restaurant makes me miss the East Coast! You can sit inside by the large bay windows overlooking the river or dine outdoors at a round table w/ 7 of your closest friends. Adirondack chairs on the patio allow you relax in style as you sip on a mimosa watching the sail boats go by. Waterfront dining doesn't get better than this.
I made sure to have the Hall of Fame Chowder with baby Maine shrimp,
Chourico and corn. If you can handle a bit of spice, definitely order this!
Grilled salmon added to the Spinach Salad is the way to go. It's loaded with strawberries, gorgonzola, almonds and topped with vinaigrette. If I could eat this every day, I would. Healthy + delicious = perfection!
Resisting the desserts would be a big mistake. I "shared" the espresso cheesecake with my sister. It was petite but since it was so rich, it was just the right amount. And although there was enough bread pudding for the entire table, I still fought for the last bite. What can I say, it was so moist and smothered in chocolate.
Go! You won't regret it.

Prices were a little high but justified by the classy decor. The atmosphere here is great because it has the feel of a fancy restaurant but it's great for groups b/c it's pretty loud and you don't have to worry about talking too loud. I will definitely be dining here again. The quality of the food, drinks, decor, and staff are excellent.
The seasonal pre-fixe menu option is a great deal! The portions are huge.
This place has gone seriously downhill in the last year.
The menu seems to have shifted more to sandwiches and grill-type items, rather than the fresh seafood entrees they used to have.
But that's not just it. The hostesses are now super pretentious, they told us with a straight face that our wait would be an hour, when the place is only half full. (We were seated in 15 min).
Besides the menu going downhill, the quality of the food is really mediocre now. During our most recent visit, one of our dining companions got food poisoning from the mussels. In the past, everyone we've taken to the Boathouse has raved about their meals, this was definitely not the case this time around.
And lastly, during my most recent visit, the service was awful. 15 minute wait to get drinks, and the patio wasn't even full.
I'm really not sure what's happened here, but I'm really disappointed this place has gone so far downhill. Since this place is such a drive for us, after our last two experiences this Spring, I don't think we'll be visiting there again.

While in Providence with my three chowder-loving sisters (and my enabling parents and brother in-laws), we made a trek out to the Boat House based on my siblings' recollections of this place's impressive Newport Chowderfest entry.
We drove out to the place and the view is fantastic. It's right on the Sakonnet River and the restaurant's large windows make sure that everyone has access to the view. The restaurant itself is nice but not nice enough that you'll feel the need to dress up.
We all started with the bowl of clam chowder. Really good. It had a lot of smoky flavor which I've got to imagine is coming from bacon or pork (plus!). It was a little less creamy/heavy than other clam chowders (second plus!) In fact, it rivaled our unanimous favorite clam chowder - Captain Parker's in Cape Cod (http://www.yelp.com/bi...) and may have had a chance to match or top it if they only had more pieces of clam and potato.
Next we sampled the two types of oysters available - a local oyster named something Native American (Sakonet?) and an imported Red Point oyster. Both were very good - the local had a nice salty bite while the imported one was bigger in size. Only complaint is that they were pricy ($2.75/each).
On to the entrees where I traded 1/2 my crab cake sandwich ($12) for 1/2 of my sister's lobster roll sandwich ($20). The crab cake sandwich was very good. The crab was only lightly breaded and had a nice lemony seasoning to it. It was messy but well worth it. The lobster roll was disappointing though. It was different from previous lobster rolls I've had in that it used a hamburger bun instead of a hot dog roll and eschewed a tangy mayo sauce for a nearly non-existent sour cream and tarragon sauce. Neither deviation was a positive - I found it fairly bland and not worth the $20 price tag. The regular and sweet potato fry medley provided with the sandwiches were really good. The cole slaw was just so-so.
My parents went with the fish and chips - which was one massive piece of breaded fish vs. the usual 2-4 smaller pieces - and a Tuscan Chicken sandwich. Both got okay marks but nowhere near the chowder.
So as not to finish the review on a low point, let me praise our waitress Leslie who ranks as the funniest, most charming (and cutest) waitresses I've had in a long time. All this time and I had never realized that 1) my family's a bit "spooky" in that we all have dark hair and bluish eyes - and when she said spooky i know she meant dreamy and 2) that my pinky shoots up like a debutantte when i drink a pint of beer. Her acute observations and charm even made it forgivable that she couldn't give an informed opinion on whether the crab cake or lobster roll was better....
Final tally:
5 stars for the chowder, the view, and Leslie.
4 stars for the crab cake sandwich
3 stars for the lobster roll
I'm going w/ the 5 stars - just avoid the lobster roll and you'll probably rank it the same...

The Boat House is a great place to dine. The views are wonderful - one of a few restaurants right on the water. The food is very good, and the service is great.
We loved it best last winter, when it was a little quieter. Don't think you will be there alone, though. There are always plenty of people enjoying this restaurant.

We spent the morning at Battleship Cove in Fall River and having read about this place decided this would be a nice option for lunch. As we drove down the driveway to the restaurant we were glad we chose this location as the view alone was beautiful. We both sort of wondered if we were under-dressed as it looks a little fancy but we were fine. Their award winning chowder with shrimp, corn and chorizo is fabulous - I opted for the clam chowder which was really watery and I would not get again...thankfully my hubby was willing to share his : ) I had a crab cake sandwich and he opted for a burger. They both were good. For fries they give you a mix of sweet potato and regular - the sweet potato are much better than the regular. The outdoor seating makes it all worth it as it was so refreshing to see the boats go by and realx. Our waitress was also excellent - very attentive but not in annoying way.
