Board & Brew has one of the best veggie options around. Their veg is filled with heaps of avocado, delicious sprouts, chunks of fresh cucumber, cheese, onion & more.
I was here yesterday & it was practically dead, which took me for a loop. The service was fast & friendly and they even gave me a little bowl of water for my puppy that was waiting outside.
My sandwich was HUGE. My sandwich was healthy. My sandwich was yummy. My sandwich can be YOUR ticket to a happier day!!!
My perfect day in San Diego consists of a nice hike at Torrey Pines State Park followed by a stop at the one, the only, Board & Brew Sandwich shop.
It's a cool, chill, perfect Del Mar spot to come after a day of hiking, surfing, shopping, walking, or couch-potato-ing. Come with flip flops, t-shirts, and shorts, or even a business suit--no cares how you look like. Everyone is there for one reason...
..they're amazing sandwiches.
Let me give you an example of their amazingness: Turkado sandwich. Heaps of avocado, turkey, lettuce, tomatos, onions, on a soft sourdough bread. MmmmMmm... So big, I need to think of a way to eat it. So good, I don't want anyone talking to me so I can enjoy it.
All for $6.75. Yeah...it's no $5 subway sandwich deal, and it's about $1 more expensive since I've first had them, but you pay for the goodness. I will forever love this place.
What can i say that hasn't been said yet.
This place rocks! They have kick ass sandwiches and they sling them out very quick. We go here at least 2-3 a month for lunch. I have only ever had the Board Master. It rocks Roast Beef, Turkey, Cheddar cheese on a roll with some French dressing Lettuce, tomato, red onion. Yum!
Don't be afraid of the massive line and people everywhere during lunch time. The line moves fast and the people watching while you wait is worth it. Especially during the summer.

Always good, good sandwiches, fast service, nice lunch crowd.

I looove this place! 4.5 stars.. great pricing, attitude, food; but mix-ups a little too common.
The Place - Cozy, very beach shack feel. Outdoor seating isn't plentiful, but it IS ideal! Hard to find parking, take what you can get.
The Service - FRIENDLY, but not always accurate.
The Food - DELICIOUS sandwiches. Generous with everything, soft bread, oooooh just the BEST. One of the few places I'll even consider the vegetarian option!
Recommended - Cali delight, vegetarian... well you can't really go wrong with anything. Packed on most weekends, and weekdays around lunch there's usually a swarm of rich high school kids. May or may not want to avoid, depends on your type I guess ;)
** $20 credit card minimum, and they DO recycle!! If you drink out of bottle or can, just bring it up front and ask about recycling. They (and the planet) really appreciate it :)
This is my work's go-to-place when ordering sandwiches for various functions. I've never actually been to Board and Brew, but have regularly eaten their sandwiches for two years now.
Very good sandwiches, one and all. Unfortunately, I have no ideas as to the names, but highly recommend the turkey and the vegetarian options. These are the two I usually eat when given the choice.
I've been eating at this place religiously for years. Whether it is after a surf session or on a work break my selection was always B & B. The menu, price, quality, turn-around time, and customer service has always been decent.
I ate here over the last holiday break and EVERYTHING has taken a turn for the worst, especially their customer service here. You ask for no mayo, you get extra mayo. You ask for Swiss cheese not cheddar...good luck! Oh wait, not accepting credit cards now? What? So frustrating! Sorry Tom.
I'm very disappointed as I was once a loyal Board and Brew customer.
Veggie sandwich tasted excellent...and very large! However there was a ton of cheese in it. Definitely go if you like good tasting food. But if you are watching your weight, it may not be a good option.
Potato salad was also good. FYI...different and tasty.
This fine establishment is definitely one of my favorite eating spots if you could ignore the OC douche bags that also love to frequent this joint. I've taken many people from my lab here as well as my other out of town-er friends.
I've had their fine selection of grilled sandwiches as well as their French Dip... Seriously to die for and to get fat off of. The grilled chicken club on a baguette with freakin bacon... mmmmm bacon......
The sandwiches are as good as people rave about in all these reviews.
The place is one of the coolest spots I know. If you are from out-of-town and want to hang out at a true Southern California places, this it. I've only been there on weekends, when the lines are huge. Totally worth it.
Baja Wrap... but hold the jalapeno peppers.
This place is one of my favorite lunch spots. Parking is tough and I'm sure most people drive by without ever knowing it was there, but after a single visit you'll want to go back again and again. There's a real San Diego vibe, so taking out of town guests is recommended.
I've settled on the Baja Wrap... a great tasting chicken wrap with jack cheese, grilled onions, avocado and peppers. These suckers are hot, so if your can't handle the spice order it without. Its impossible to try and pick them out of the wrap. Think its about $7, which is not bad for a large quality sandwich.
I love this quaint little place in Del Mar, parking can be a pain if it's full in the back and you need to find street parking but it's totally worth it. The sandwiches are rather big but very delicious. The best part about the sandwich is the bread, very soft and very fresh. I got the turkey sandwich and it was made MY way, very cool! You can sit outside and people watch and feel the ocean breeze hitting your face on a beautiful sunny afternoon. I usually come here after a long hard day of surfing.
I loved my sandwich (turkey, cream chesse, sprouts, etc). The bread was SUPER fresh. While they do sell bottled beers, I was disappointed because I expected an extensive selection of beers, maybe even draft.
For the folks who don't like this place, I would love to know where YOU suggest to find a better sandwich? I am always on the hunt...
invited some friends here and one of the sandwitch came out ungrilled and with no sprouts I asked for sprouts and for it to be grilled and THEY were super super rude ;/ wow i didnt expect that. No sprouts they said and were pissed to toast the sandwitch. Also they arnt very clean. ;/
My husband and I were in the Del Mar area today and decided to stop and get a bite to eat. We hopped on Yelp and bam, Board and Brew popped up. I have heard good things about Board and Brew and we decided to stop.
We finally got there after walking and driving past it several times. When we walked up it look like the place was closing up, but the guy at the register assured us they were still open.
After skimming the menu we ordered. I order the Turkado and my husband ordered the Beef Baja with chips and a drink. We both really enjoyed our sandwiches. I got mine minus the avocado so it was really just a plain turkey sandwich but I do plan on going back to try something more exciting.
The cafe looks like it would be cramped if it was busy, but they have really nice patio seating. The staff was really nice and seemed like they really enjoyed what they do.
All in all I am pumped to go back and try something else.
so goood, so yummy to my tummy, turkey, turkey, avocado, avocado, and so much sweet and sour yummy sauce.
la la la, doing a stupid song and dance, it's just that good.
by the way, grab a "samich" and cop a squat right by the beach which is like seconds away and you have San Diego at it's very best! ;-)
Dude. Yes.
After shredding some gnar at 15th street, nothing washes the salty oceaness down better than a delictible (is that a word?) sandwich.
It's totally sweet brah. Even if you're a kook, or worse, a zoni this place is for real.
It's a little bit "off the beaten path" as far as the scene is considered in Del Mar so you don't have to deal with AS many dbags...but don't be too annoyed when somebody in a Lamborghini parks in 2 stalls, orders their sandwich like they order their soy, organic, fat free, diet, sugar free, 138 degree latte...just order another pacifico and chillllllaxxxxx
French mothafucking Dip.
Then again, dipping anything in greasy meat juice would taste good.
THAT'S WHAT SHE SAAAAAAAAAAAID.
Bang for your buck!
These sandwiches are really tasty and large. I recommend the Boardmaster. I'm not a fan of roast beef sandwiches, but they really pull this one off. It's roast beef with turkey, sweet & sour sauce, plus other fixin's. You can't go wrong!
If I have tourists in town, I come here for a low key lunch at a local sandwich joint.
Sandwiches are delicious! I love the boardmaster - with turkey and roast beef and a sweet and sour sauce that is so amazing! Although the service is somewhat slow, I can forgive them since there are always so many people waiting in line to get a bite. The sandwiches are a pretty decent size. There is an indoor and outdoor seating area.
Delicious sandwiches. Hearty helpings. Fast and inexpensive. I don't even like sandwiches but love them when I eat here.
Easily the best sandwich place I have been to. I had the chicken club and it was awesome.
Apparently everyone else agrees because the place was packed at 1:30 pm on a Tuesday afternoon.
YUM.
_______
After reading my own review, I am craving another chicken club...it was soooo good!
The name "Board and Brew" suggests surfing and beer, neither of which is featured prominently at Board and Brew. A more appropriate name is "Long Line for Sandwich."
As you can see below, Long Line for Sandwich has a pretty huge fan club, so finding a seat can be kind of a crap shoot. But not without good reason-- the sandwiches here are tasty and reasonably priced, which totally trumps paying at least twice as much at other (somewhat) casual Del Mar spots like the Pacifica Breeze. There aren't many faults with their standard deli sandwiches, and standouts to try include the Turkey Deluxe, which features a fresh, spongy roll graced with non-traditional ingredients like sunflower seeds and the signature sweet-sour dressing. The latter is more zesty, salad-style dressing than its Chinese namesake, and it's a superb condiment for sandwiches or pretty much anything else.
Despite the teeming throngs, they crank sandwiches out pretty quickly, so it's well worth stopping by for a cheap lunch if you're in the neighborhood.
This was my first time at this Board & Brew location and the scenery of attractive people was a welcomed sight on this beautiful day. It seems as if all of the locals come here for lunch before hitting the beach. It also seems a favorite eatery of entrepreneurs, which was the reason for my visit today, and the seating outside made for a great meeting of minds as we feasted on some high quality sandwiches.
I decided to order the chicken club sandwich this time, a combination of marinated chicken breast, bacon, cheese, and the usual fixings. I'm not sure what it was marinated in, but the chicken had great flavor and while not necessary, the bacon added even more great tastes. As they say, everything is better with bacon!
While the meals may be a bit pricey, I really enjoy the vibe of Board & Brew. It's a really hip place to hang out and grab a meal before or after spending the day at the beach only steps away. If there was one nearer by, I would never go to those chain places again. For my $5-7, this is the sandwich place for me.
Food: 8/10
Service: 7/10
Price: $
Atmosphere: 8/10
Yummy! The sandwiches and wraps are delicious and a huge portion for the price paid. Can be crowded during lunch, but definitely worth it. Try the Baja Wrap (watch out for the jalapeños!)
I waited 12 minutes for my Turkado and it was worth every minute of waiting. It was a huge, delicious sandwich.
Take your sandwich to the beach and enjoy the view!
OMG!!
I don't have to wait another year. A new Board & Brew just opened up in Bressi Ranch. Once a week is more like it. Trader Joes, Peets and now this. To much to take. Thanks to the mastermind of the Bressi Ranch shopping center for putting some of my favorite shops in a center that 5 minutes from my house!

So delicious. It's actually so delicious, that out of the last 4 visits there, they have messed up… Read more »
Best sandwiches I've had aside from my own. My mom used to own an absolutely righteous sandwich place in Orange County, so I wouldn't hesitate to say when it comes to quality sandwich ingredients and prep, I'm kind of a big deal. This place, it's the fucking REAL deal. Sandwiches are not only overflowing with meat, but they're stuffed with QUALITY meat. Bread is always soft, never stale, and always delicious; this ain't no Wonder Bread. Vegetables are never wilted and always ripe, and the cheese is quality as well.
I usually either get the California Delight or the Turkado, and either one is heaven. The California Delight is turkey with sprouts, cream cheese, and sunflower seeds on wheat bread, and it is absolutely delicious. Makes me wonder why I never invented it in my poor desperate college days.
The Turkado is divine as well, a turkey avocado sandwich loaded with the freshest guacamole and the freshest turkey meat. My only complaint is that in recent months the guac to turkey ratio's gradually decreased; the economy's made the Turkado a little less spectacular. :(
But yeah, as if it could get any better, these sandwiches are CHEAP. Not Subway, $5 Footlong cheap, mind you, but they're still pretty inexpensive for the amount of good eats you can get.
If you're picking up to go, make sure to call in your order if you're going to be in for the lunch crowd, which is...hell, you know what, make sure you call it in at all times of the day, because I've seen this place absolutely packed at almost 5pm, with cars outside looking for parking to get to this place.
Seriously, forget that footlong garbage you're stuffing your face with, and get your ass to Board & Brew, STAT.
My cousin told me that this was a place I needed to go while I was in the area, so he took me on over there to get a sandwich to take on my train home. He told me that they made the best sandwiches in the world, which, of course, is no small endorsement.
We got there after 3:00, so the lunch rush was probably long gone, yet the place was still fairly crowded (though there was no line at the register). I ordered the chicken club and it was very, very good. My cousin insisted that I order a side of sweet and sour sauce (apparently they make it there) and that was great, though it didn't go particularly well with the chicken club. The chicken breasts were seasoned well grilled to perfection. I'll definitely be coming back here the next time I'm in the area.
I don't think I need to say much, everyone has already said it all.
I will make a point of noting that the Sweet & Sour sauce is incredible, and it makes the Turkey Deluxe sandwich very, very addicting. I'm also a fan of the Tub O' Tuna...and am still trying new sandwiches when I go there!
This is absolutely without a doubt the best sandwich shop in all of San Diego county, period. It does get completely packed at lunchtime, and there is very little parking (especially if it is summertime and people are in Del Mar/at the beach/etc)....so call in your order, or come by later in the afternoon. In fact, the sandwiches seem to be even more enormous when there isn't a crowd...yum!
Completely uninspired and overpriced. The best way to describe something that is the equivalent of the patron making it at home. The best way to describe Board & Brew.
I ordered the Turkado. The menu says its turkey, avocado, mayonnaise, cheese, onion, tomato, lettuce on sourdough. Here's where I am probably at fault, because I expected more.
Not more as in more ingredients, but as in the expectation to get something unique out of the combination. Since so many people on yelp say this is a must have, I must have right? Here I am thinking, oh the turkey must be perfectly seasoned. Oh the mayonnaise must be homemade and have a texture to die for. Oh the cheese must be artisan, the tomatoes must be ripe as all out. Everything must be harmonious to warrant such a high review average. Wrong... Wrong!
What I got was just that, turkey, avocado, mayonnaise, cheese, onion, tomato, lettuce on sourdough. *ahem* Let me describe it like this. You go to the super market, you go to the deli section, you go to the produce section. You get some mayo in the aisles. You pick up a loaf of bread. All the while you make sure you buy the cheapest brand you can to save money. You go home, you put them together. You slop on some mayo, you get some of that turkey, you slice a small amount of avocado, you cut some tomatoes real quick, throw them on there too and get that cheese on there for taste. That's Board & Brew.
Its cheap ingredients, with nothing unique about them, all thrown together as fast as they can. It is the most UNINSPIRED thing I have eating in San Diego. Anyone, ANYONE can make something better at home. Jesus... The only thing is that the avocado was noticeably fresh. That was it. The mayo was HEAVY, it was disgusting. It tasted like a solidified oil.
Horrible. Not good enough. I will not return to Board & Brew. Ever.
MmMm.. I would have to say that their Chicken caesar salad was off the hook. fresh and yummy also the container it came in was nice for mixing up the dressing. I had a Sandwich there too, (1/2 sandwich 1/2salad shared) It was the baja wrap, makes my mouth water just thinking of it!. Really good! Both were. I can't wait to go back again. the salad was amazing!!! Don't get me wrong... this was a big salad, big hot juicey chicken mmm, a must try... take it to go and sit and watch the waves!
Love their turkey sandwiches. Hard to find though.
Big fan. Great sandwiches, local feel. More than Subway for sure but worth it.
Chicken club was off the hook! Turkado was off the hook!
This place is freakin delicious. Its a lot of food, so either share it or have lunch and dinner! or eat it all and be happy :)
They say the sauce is good with the chicken club... i think the sauce is good with any of the sandwiches. yum. I highly recommend going here. DELICIOUS!
The girls I used to tutor recommended this place to me. Apparently it was 'the cool place to go'. This became obvious when I pulled up and there was a kumbaya circle of freshly sprung-from-4th-period teenagers giggling on one of the outside tables.
My expectations were piqued. I was excited and hungry. I walk in and instantly become a little afraid. It looked a little dirty. It seemed like they were doing construction in the back, but wasn't sure enough to set me at a delicatessen ease. I ordered and my sandwich was ready in about 7 minutes. The girls told me to get their 'special sauce' but forgot. Or maybe it was just that I was so afraid of something called the 'special sauce' that I purposely didn't remember. Apparently that was my downfall.
The sandwich was humongous. The turkey was incredibly good, as was the bread it was served on. Everything else tasted about average. Probably my bad for not getting the special sauce. Maybe my bad for watching too many Road Trip/National Lampoon/American Pie type movies that makes any ambiguous sauce cause unambiguous fear.
I'll go back again when I'm in the area. Maybe I'll be strong enough then.
Wow, great sandwiches!
yum! this place has really huge and good sandwiches. pretty cheap too! i love to get the sandwich and bring it on the beach. I had the Turkey Deluxe and my bf had the chicken sandwich. Filled with yummy goodness!!! I would have to say that this place is a little bit better than Con Pane (GASP!)
Word to the wise...eat the sandwich that day. I made the mistake of leaving the other half in the fridge and the bread was all soggy
After writing this review..I think i'm gonna go there for lunch now!
I've been going here since middle school and I STILL keep coming back. Their sandwiches are DELICIOUS. Try the Turkado or the Veggie Delite. Or if you're a huge meateater, the french dip! It never loses with my guy friends. If you're in the Del Mar area, be sure not to miss out!
Awesome sandwich shop, just a block from the beach. Good price, big fat sandwich, eat it on the beach. Local high school kids have been ditching class to get a sandwich for years now.
Personally, I'm a Turkey Deluxe man, no cheese. Piled with high-quality turkey with simple fixins on a soft yet chewy roll. They make it with this sweet and sour sauce that's absolutely a force for good in this world. Bright orange and vinegary and sweet and wonderful. I always get an extra (tub...thing...what are those sauce containers called?) to go with my sandwich. My brother gets two.
Turkey club is a great one if you like your turkey with bacon and cheese. Also works well if you add sauce. Turkado gives you turkey with, you guessed it, a generous slathering of ripe avocado. There's a also a veggie sandwich, some grilled numbers, and a soup and salad type deal, but I never bother. It's a sandwich shop.
When you get there, be ready to wait if you go at peak hours (lunchtime)., unless you call ahead.
It was the crowd (that and the lack of seating) that turned me off more so - the SoCal Gossip Girl trust fund on Christmas break teeny boper set. What can I say? I live in the land of the flamboyant and the hipsters.
The service was good. The guy apologized for the lack of seating as he brought our sandwiches to us outside on the curb lol. The sandwich was good - nothing to make you say MMMMM about but still good, and reasonably priced.
