Whoever didn't give this place 4 stars or higher is obviously ordering the wrong items!! :)

Parking: Own parking lot, score! We all know it can be a total biznatch to find parking in DTSJ especially on a Saturday night.

Ambiance: Very....yellow and brown. Could be better, but feels homey and spacious.

Service: GREAT! We came in at 9:30PM or later, which was close to closing and we almost left but all the workers had big 'ol grins and insisted they were still serving. Our waitress spoke 3 different languages (English, Vietnamese, and Cantonese) and she was super nice and friendly and made suggestions on what to order.

Price: Affordable! 5 dishes came out to be $60 including tip.

Food: YUMMO as Rachel Ray would say!

All I can say is that you MUST try the chicken feet salad appetizer. It is seriously http://thebomb.com. You will definitely like this if you're a fan of pickled veggies (carrots, white radish, etc.), fish sauce, and chewy, gelatin like chicken feet. The best part is that everything is edible, bone and all!

We also ordered the sour catfish soup, clams with black bean sauce, honey walnut shrimp, and Mapo tofu with beef. The soup was yummy and sour but be warned that the fish sauce used to dip the fish is insanely salty. The sauce for the clams was gooddd and delicious with rice. I also really enjoyed the honey walnut prawns because the shrimp batter was very crispy and light at the same time--although I thought it could have used more mayo, but I'm just a fatty. Tofu was blah and nothing memorable. They were pretty skimpy with the beef so I'd pass on ordering this.

I highly recommend this place if you're in the mood for Chinese/Vietnamese food. I'm sure you've passed by Bo Town before because you hella can't miss it, especially if you're on your way to the clubs. Just look for that bigass white sign that says somethin' like "LUNCH SPECIAL $5.99, somethin', somethin'.." lol.

Let me just put it in a few words, very starchy, oily and salty. I don't know if we ordered the wrong dishes, but we went here twice and remembered that it was not good the first time.
The last time I ate here was yearsss ago and it was delicious! But I'm guessing they're probably under a new manager and after all that renovation for there restaurant it has changed.

Giving this place a second chance was a good idea... not to come here the third time.

    Sorry, Bo Town.

They went stingy on their portions!

Tastes good, but portions are SUPER small! Be prepared to order LOTS of dishes to be filled up!

Service was very attentive and kind :)

They have their own parking lot, which is always a plus in DTSJ!

This place has been around for a long time.  The food has always been good and consistent.  It's classic Chinese food.  Sure, you can find the Americanized Chinese staples too.  But, they also do more authentic Chinese dishes too.

I only go here every so often since it's located in downtown and I always forget about it.  But as far as the food, it's up there with my other favorite Chinese joints like Boda or Fu Lam.  Of course, if you're looking for fancy atmosphere or great service, you won't find it at these type of places.  Not that the service is bad here, it's just simple and minimal.  Ppl go here for the good food and the prices.

I'd say the food is comparable to Boda, which is pretty popular in this area among Asian ppl.  From what I hear, the owner(s) of Boda used to work here before they ventured out on their own.  But, Boda's food has gone downhill in recent years with all the kitchen staff changes.  Bo Town is still consistent in that regard.

So, if you're looking for an old school Chinese restaurant, check out this place.  You won't be disappointed.

The place was packed with large and small groups. Festive and happy. Tons of happy wait staff too. Many Chinese and Asian guests along with everyone else on earth so EVERYONE loves Bo Town!!

Really though, they have their own parking lot :)

    GREAT Prices!!

The best part of the evening: The POT STICKERS! Best on Earth!!

Food poisoning. I'm actually writing this during the relaxing down time I have in-between rounds of throwing up. I was hoping this place would be good since the location is so convenient, but no. Just no.

I suggested this place to my group of friends who were craving Asian food for lunch on a Saturday afternoon. I remembered it was pretty good when I ate here years ago. Things definitely changed since then. Seating and parking space was ample at that time.  I really liked their private lot behind their restaurant; especially convenient for DTSJ. We ordered family style with several dishes: carmelized fish, walnut shrimp, tofu beef, scallop with snow peas (?) and I believe that's it...

Portions were unbelievably small. The food tasted more for Chinese take-out rather than for a sit-down restaurant. I remembered that the tofu beef did not come out like how it was in the picture. Slightly watery and not enough meat. Some of the dishes tasted bland too, like the scallop. It wasn't bad persay, but disappointing. Good thing I was hungry.

coming in for the $5.50 BO TOWN lunch special is similar to cleaning your house and finding that forgotten gadget you lost the week before.

    EPIC FIND.

weekdays during their certain hours you get
a small bowl of the soup of the day. (it was egg drop soup with corn and bits of pork.. CRACKKKKKKKIN')
    steamed white or fried rice
    and choice of entree.

lunch for two included an order of mongolian beef and some sweet and sour pork with vegetables. I also got another order of chow fun which was dry, tasteless, and probably the worst chow fun i've ever had... DRY, no black bean sauce, lacking in the bean sprouts department, and burnt.

whatever, the $5.50 combo is so on point, makes me wanna slap somebody.
they also have their own parking lot.. BUT. the service here was ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE. -1 star! cat was hustlin, running everywhere managing the joint by himself! didn't fill up our water cups, to-go boxes, etc.

literally started walking back to the kitchen while I was finishing up our order with him. all good, 4/5 i ain't no picky DIVA.

For some strange reason, my grandmother loves this place, so this is where my gigantic family always goes for our special occasion dinners ever since I can remember. And for this same strange reason, Bo Town has become very nostalgic to me.

Their service is pretty mediocre, especially when it is super busy, and you pretty much have to flag someone down to get something. I'm generally cool with that because they always have a lot of people on staff and there's always someone near by.

I personally think their food is tasty...maybe it's just because I've had it since I was little, but I think it's a good amount of food for the price you pay.

The boy loves to come here, so I come here too.
It's pretty good Chinese food for cheap.
Their lunch specials are what bring you in. Most plates are $5.50
And it comes with a bowl of soup too.

The food is good too. The parking is easy too. They have a private lot in the back.
    I'd come back.

I would say this is the best "Chinese Restaurant" in San Jose downtown area. Its owned and run by a lovely Chinese couple who looks like they more workers to help. When I was eating, I noticed that they were constantly running from table to table and back and fourth from the kitchen. Also, not to be racist or sound ignorant, this Chinese restaurant has chinese cooks in the back and not hispanics or students from SJSU cooking your food like most Panda Express type restaurants.

For the food, its not the best you can get but it is authentic Cantonese style Chinese food. They have a good variety of dishes ranging from lunch specials to more traditional Chinese dishes that typically only people like my parents would order. I've tried a couple of dishes and everything tasted great. I had the Salty Fish and Chicken Fried rice, Beef Chow Fun w/Gravy, Mongolian Beef, Egg Plant and other dishes that I tried from friends. Everything tasted great and I had no problems with any of them. However this is all my own preferences, some might think it maybe just a bit too salty but you can try yourself.

For the price, it doesn't get much better. For the lunch specials, you order an entree (Mongolian Beef, General Chicken etc..) and they give you huge portions. You also get your choice of white rice or fried rice and depending on what day it is, you get either an egg roll or wonton as free appetizer. BUT WAIT!!! I'm not done yet, if you order now you also get a free soup of the day folks! Yes, thats right you get a huge plate of meat or veggie dish, rice or fried rice, egg roll or wonton appetizer and a free soup of the day (either hot and sour or egg and corn soup) all for $5.50.

free parking lot as well behind the restaurant so thats another plus.

so yeah, this place is pretty legit and if you have lunch here its definitely worth the price.

5 stars. especially because its hard to park downtown sj.

Hair found in the Cashew Chicken. When brought to the attention of the server, they replied "it's only a hair". And then proceeded to take $4.00 off the total of our tab, despite the fact that we couldn't eat the rest of the food anymore. They become defensive when we asked for a better discount, and demanded to know where the hair was. It was very clear by their initial reaction, that having a customer complain about a hair in the food was a common occurrence. It was no big thing to them. Their attitude about the situation, as if we were making it up, only made the situation that much worse. Don't go here, unless you're cool with black hair in your food. They certainly are.

I wanted to give them three stars to be nice but I just can't do it. The food was gross. And the service is not that great either. After a meeting in downtown SJ I decided to order some food to go for the starving boys at home watching Monday night football. Bo Town was the closest most convenient restaurant I found on my Yelp app on my phone.

    What I ordered:

1.) Won Ton Soup - Gross, it just had a couple of pieces of won tons with two pieces of   BBQ pork, and two pieces of Chinese broccoli.
2.) Abalone & Black Mushroom in Oyster Sauce - Gross, they filled almost the whole dish with napa cabbage which did not compliment the dish at all.
3.) Black Bean Sauce Fish Fillet - Gross, the sauce was not good and the fish was fried which it should have noted on the menu.
4.) Honey Crispy Walnut Prawns - The worst walnut prawns I've had in my life.
5.) Mongolian Beef - Have you ever tried the PF Changs frozen dinners you cook at home? It takes exactly like that, disgusting. It takes like fake beef.
6.) Orange Chicken - Waaaaayyyyy too much orange zest.
7.) Sautéed Spinach - Too watery
8.) House Special Chow Fun - Isn't chow fun supposed to be dry? It was drenched in sauce.

I've only came here once 5 years ago and will not return.  The food was really nasty and gross.  It does not compare with any Chinese food and especially anything near authentic.  Orders to go:  my friend had ordered the chow mein plain (only wanted the noodles) and it was tasteless and dry.  I had ordered combination fried rice.  I don't really know how to explain it but it was nothing near yummy and fulfilling.

I have not returned and don't know if anything has change but I'll take my chance elsewhere.

Sometimes it happens.  You'll be walking along minding your own business, maybe you're not even a bit hungry.  And suddenly a faint scent wafts through the breeze and you know what time it is.  Time for cheap, dog shit Chinese food.

Bo Town brings it to the table.  Their lunch special included soup, either BBQ pork fried rice or steamed rice, and then enough of the main entree to feed two.  However two separate lunch specials came out to a grand total of just $12.  At a sit down restaurant.

Yes, if you want Chinese that won't break your budget, this will be as good as any you can find.  Just don't have high expectations for the quality of the food, it's nothing spectacular, however that's the whole point of craving crappy Chinese.

After an eventful HH at single barrel, we walked up to this restaurant to grab some food. After a drink or two, any restaurants should be excellent right? WRONG!!!! Wow.............I would rather eat at a panda express than this place. The extra star is probably because I am happy that there isn't a place like this in the City.

This is not a place where you are going to bring good friends and family to wow or wooh unless you don't like them. All of the dishes were average to below average. Nothing worth mentioning...............just very below average Vietnamese/Chinses food.

    chicken salad
    walnut shrimp
    fried pork intestines
    fried calamari
    garlic with pea sprouts
    black bean sauce beef
    imitation crab meat soup

It's really not worth describing the dishes.

I can't really say this is a perfect restaurant for chinese food but it really did blow me away with the prices and service.

Well, i guess the bathroom needs to be cleaner and bigger, otherwise i would give it a 5 star, better yet it needs to be remodel. i dont want to be walking on pee!!!

    Price is banging good deals.

Service is great, all the waitresses are willing to assist you and they never gave me any attitude or dislike faces. (i am a frequent customer).

Food is cheap, and kinda fast too!! By the time i ordered (fried chicken over rice) it was about 12 mins.

Cleanliness is  great in the dining but damn the bathroom man. the bathroom!!!

ok, overall. consider this to be a great place to enjoy a fine meal, under budget with friends and family, but i wouldnt considered this for people going on dinner dates here.

I went here last Friday for a birthday dinner. This was the second time that I've been here. Don't come here expecting anything fancy though. The place is actually quite unattractive. One plus is that they have their own parking lot, which is good since it's located in downtown SJ where it can be hard to find parking sometimes.

This is a typical Chinese/Vietnamese restaurant where you order family style. We ordered the wor wonton soup, basil clams, 2 orders of the salt & pepper fish, Chinese greens with oyster sauce, and Mongolian beef. The food is okay here. The only thing that stood out as being really good was the salt & pepper fish. It was fried to the perfection and it was full of flavor.

Also, the service at this place isn't very good either. There are several waiters working there but they hardly come around to your table and even when you try to wave them over, they just look away and ignore you. So you have to be patient or just be really loud and cause a scene! Just kidding!

The number one good thing about this place is that it is super cheap! Everyone was pretty stuffed after dinner and the total for each person only came out to be $10!! And that was including tax and tip already! Such a steal for seafood!

I'm a little surprised by the mediocre reviews on here. Granted I only come here for the lunch specials but it's an excellent deal for what you get. $5.50 gets you an entree which you choose, free small appetizer, your choice of white or fried rice, and soup if you eat-in. The food is authentic which I can appreciate and it tastes like real Chinese food. Even the decorations on the wall you can tell that this restaurant has been around for a long time.

Good food, large portions for a very reasonable price!

Drop by here for lunch today, the menu had mostly Chinese with some Vietnamese dishes like Pho. Their lunch special was only $6, and it was a pretty large list to choose from. After we order, the waiter came back with our sweet and sour soup with fried won-tons chips. I normally do not like these kind of soup, but this soup was pretty decent and hardy. I order Kung Pao and my sister order Sweet and Sour Chicken.  We did not have to wait long until the dishes arrive, each of our dishes came with a huge portion of rice. We end up only eating one of the portion and we Togo the other.

The service was very friendly and we left full and satisfied. I wouldn't ,ind coming back here again.

I liked this place better when I wasn't a vegetarian! Back then I could enjoy their sizzling beef steak with fried rice or fried prawns. Ehh whatever! Ha I came here when I was a vegetarian because I really was on my way to Pho 69 but they were closed because I'm dumb and didn't notice that the business hours said "closed" on my yelp app. Hahaha oh well I came here and had to improvise I ended up ordering vegetarian fried rice and chow fun. The fried rice was ok, not bland but not hella flavorful either. The chow fun tasted better. I like the vegetables they used in the food though like bok choy, broccoli, mushrooms, pea, carrots, bell peppers, chinese broccoli stems, cabbage, etc. I wouldn't come here unless you were a meat eater.

Came here for the first time a few days ago. I think there was a party or something because it was packed and it seemed they had karaoke going on. It was pretty loud but didn't bother me, I found it more entertaining than annoying. The menu has a ton of different options to choose from and the portions are huge at a really cheap price. Service was also great. This isn't the best chinese food I've ever had, but still tasty nonetheless. Nothing really to complain about when you're getting tons of food without breaking your wallet. I'd definitely come back and order a lot less next time!

    -Walking distance from SJSU
-CHEAP lunch specials.  it was approximately 5.50-6.95 for their lunch specials.  All dishes came up with soup of the day, steamed rice or fried rice, and an eggroll (unless u ordered a noodle dish it came with only soup)
-super quick service..got our meal within 10 min of ordering
-pretty nice interior..looked like a restaurant
-dishes weren't too salty unlike the Nutrition House!
-I ordered the sweet and sour fish..delish!

    Cons:

Way back in the distant past , back in the 60's during the *last* great military folly that our country was trying to force to amicable conclusion, this place was Sambo's Pancake House.. OK .. nothing to do with Bo Town.. but to those of you who were wondering about the odd sort of chain restaurant look of the building.. that is why..

Anyway.. it has been a while.. maybe a decade since I last ate here.. then this weekend we attended a friend's book-signing and hors d'euvores party at Eulipia.. (very nice..) but then.. after the event.. rather than socialize over a nice expensive Eulipia dinner.. we moved over to Bo Town.. Pretty decent Chinese/Vietnamese food -- more than ten old Boomers sitting around a table could finish.. served Chinese communal style.. for $113.. OK.. plus tip mmmm $139.. Where else can you get a *good* meal for that anymore??? (I mean without resorting to Senior discount deals and all that stuff?)

This spacious quaint restaurant is conveniently located at the outskirt of Downtown San Jose. Had the eggplant clay pot with seafood and beef with mixed vegetables. Food came out very quickly and portions are of average size.

One thing I like about this place is the high ceiling somehow helps to absorb sound when compared to typical noisy Chinese restaurants.

I recommend this place if you want a decent Chinese meal in Downtown San Jose.

This is a typical Chinese restaurant that my family and I frequent when we're feeling Chinese. It's more of a 3.5 star to me. We always get the same things and I like it that way because it's yummy. However, on our last couple of visits, everything was just so-so.

Still, the portions are huge, dishes are cheap, and I always leave stuffed. Still three very good reasons for returning =P

    The usual:

shredded crab meat w/ fish stomach soup
fried oysters (with tamarind dipping sauce)
    salt and pepper spare ribs
chicken with black bean sauce on a sizzling plate
    tofu and chicken in claypot

It's not gourmet, but the food is good and if it can feed 60 people for $700 inc. drinks, tax, and tip; it's pretty awesome in my book. We only had to put a $60 deposit down too.

Me and 2 other of my nursing buddies had a collaboration dinner for our graduation here. The staff was very accomodating and even let us substitute some of the items on the fixed price menu.  It included a 10 course meal, which consisted of soup, chicken, beef, pork, shrimp-walnut prawns, fried rice, steam rice, and fish. I wish that included dessert too.

There was so much food that there was enough for people to take home.  Some of our friends and families are picky eaters, there were no complaints here.

Again, the staff was super accomodating and really friendly.

So, while it wasn't horrible, I'd definitely say the "dollar chinese" place near me makes a better deep fried fish dish. And no, that dollar place isn't good. And the beef dish we had today was... kinda... gross...

Yeah, so like other yelpers have said, I guess it's a typical Chinese restaurant after all. A typical crappy one.

I used to go alot when I was at SJSU, but I hadn't been in probably 6 or so years, and when my friends invited me for a birthday dinner, I was excited to return.

Nothing has changed in those years, and my group of 20 was stuffed on less than $15 each, including beverage and tip. After we ordered the food started coming out in mere minutes, and everything was delicious. We weren't very adventurous sticking to the standards, but I loved it all.

The building is old and the bathroom reminds me of a dive bar, but I'm still alive to write this review, so four stars!

Five words: DEAD ROACHES ON THE FLOOR

Being accustomed to Viet food in SJ (and being part Viet), I know that most authentic Viet restaurants usually don't meet Western standards of cleanliness. That's okay but I do draw boundaries...

It was lunch time, the place was dark and the colors of the carpet were a maroonish purple...I ordered oysters, clams w/ black bean sauce, and steamed fish. The food was okay until I dropped my chopstick. As I was picking it up, I saw something shaped like a oval. Being camouflaged w/ the carpet, I didn't realize what it was until I saw three legs moving!!!
It was a roach, dying on the floor. I instantly lost my appetite (as did my party and we exited without paying). We noticed that there were dozens of dying roaches. They were inconspicuous b/c of the dim lighting and carpet color.

The manager told us it was perfectly acceptable/sanitary to have dead roaches on the floor. Apparently the place was fumigated. Just knowing that roaches were crawling on plates/kitchen is enough to warrant a one star rating. The food isn't that cheap to begin with. If roaches didn't coexist with their other animals (crabs, fish) then I would give this place 3 stars.

I would not bring family here for a special occasion. If the old pink lace curtains that only go halfway up the window, the bright pink tablecloths, converted old diner feel, and forks (vs. chopsticks) already placed on the smaller tables was any indicator, this is not the place for fine dining.

But for what it is, cheap and greasy Chinese food that hits closer to home than Panda Express (*gag*), this is not a bad place to go when I have a specific craving and I'm stuck in the immediate area. I like their chow fun dishes because the noodles are wide, plentiful, and fresh, even though all the stir-fry sauces seem laden with oil and my stomach grumbles in discontent for the rest of the day. It doesn't stop me from coming back when I have a severe need of comfort food and can't venture out far. At least the meat is tender. My co-worker has a weakness for black bean anything here.

However, I would suggest to pass on the "gohn chow ngou hoa" dry stir-fried beef chow fun because it comes out bland and the fried rice has too much soy sauce in it (when it's done right it's not supposed to be brown).

There are not that many traditional Chinese places within walking distance of SJSU and found this place via Yelp.  I ordered the House Special Fried Rice and Shrimp Egg Foo Young.

The portions were huge and it was relatively cheap.  The food was good for the price and it satisfied my craving.  :)  Will be putting this place on my list of places to order take-out for sure!

I shiver in cold sweat everytime someone tells me they're going to Bo Town for lunch.

Their food is sloppily made and service is iffy. Our waiter all of sudden didn't understand English when we mentioned that the egg roll was too burnt to eat (it was cocoa brown!!) and we wanted a replacement (didn't get one). The fried oysters were rock hard when they should have just been coddled in oil for that soft texture.

Okay, I should not expect much from a dump, but for the love of cooking and in the name of Asian cuisine, please make an effort to be a decent restaurant with tolerable service. At least I wouldn't be so mean if you were nice.

Though the food and service needs improvement, I will justify the two stars because their prices do suit the near-by SJSU student's budget.

OK! I am not gonna lie!  Every time I drive pass this place, I'm always like hell no, this place is janky as hell!   My co-workers and I were on our way driving to eat lunch at China Chen which is a block away.  We drove pass this place again but it had a new look to it!  Oh that's right, you have new paint job and a huge new sign! So we were like what the hell, let's try this place out!

Huge restaurant and the service was FAST!!!!! I had the beef chow fun, usually I get the dry but I guess they make it wet here too so I was like sure why not, let me try the wet one.  It comes with chopped onions and chopped green peppers.  Different yet still good! The price is hella good too, there were 3 of us and our bill was 24 bucks including 2 cokes!!! DAMNNN!!!!!  They also give you free tea and a free soup.  The portions are good and the food is tasty. This place definitely caught me by surprise.

Coming back for sure with more co-workers! hahahah
