I love this salon!  The staff is so friendly and attentive, and they take the time to really help you decide what you want if you go in not really knowing what hairstyle you want to go with.  I've gotten my best haircuts here.  My mom even said this was my best hair style yet!
Oh and I love that they take your coat when you walk in and offer you something to drink, and they have a nice magazine collection to read from as well!

Nice place to get a hair cut on Willy Street.  Stylish without getting obnoxiously hip.  Kelly gives a fantastic shampoo.

Also, they'll get you a cup of coffee.  More places need to do this.  I walk into Home Depot, I want a cup of coffee.  Blockbuster - cup of coffee.  Actually, I just need somebody following me around giving me coffee all the time.  That'd rock.

I wanted to try this place out simply because of the way the owner has treated my friend "Alison K." Maybe I'm crazy, but I find something truly fascinating about owners who act like children when someone writes an honest, negative review about the establishment. Instead of having a tantrum, why not take the criticism to heart and make sure no other customers walk out of your business unhappy in the future? Whatever. So, when visiting Madison recently, I decided to visit this place. Bad idea.

The first warning sign came when I tried calling. I'm assuming you guys have hired a person to answer the phones, so maybe you should check up on them every so often. I called three times and let it ring, nothing. No one picked up.

I don't know why I was so into going there, but things weren't better once I finally arrived at the place. It might be beneficial for your business to have someone actually acknowledging people who walk in. Having your staff congregating together, ignoring the foot traffic that comes in? If you are going to get people to sign up for Yelp to write fake 5 star reviews to make people think you are some kind of legit, quality salon, you should probably put the same amount of effort into making sure there is a warm, fully-functioning body behind the front desk.

So yeah, one star for a variety of reasons, but mainly because I couldn't even get in because buffoons are running the place.

As I did not return to Blues Salon, I'm not reviewing the salon here.  I'm reviewing the customer service.  Evidently the owner of Blues does not like honest criticism of her salon evidenced by her "comment" attached to my earlier review.

I am so sorry Irene that I did not get back to you sooner, but I do not make a habit of responding to the hatemail from the owners of substandard businesses.
As to why you can not find me in your files, it is simple.  My name isn't Alison K.    Even if you find my review of your business "vitriolic", a "hatefest", and "ranting", I'm not sure if publicly commenting this tirade of hyperbole is really an intelligent business move on your part.

Also, it's "pseudonym" not "pseudonim", and I like to think of it as my pen name.  ;D

ETA: After posting this update, Irene the owner sent me another message:  "Well A.K.A, I am sure you'll be a hero for a day with your business bashing buddies."
I'm not  sure what she means by "A.K.A." in this sentence, but all of you that consider yourselves my "business bashing buddies" take note;  Irene is on to you.

When i first moved to Madison three years ago, I asked a friend where I should go to get my hair styled, and she suggested Marie at Blues.  Marie is fantastic -- she's never given me a bad styling, and is just the friendliest, most fun hair cuttin' person I ever did know.  This may sound ridiculous, but I honestly look forward to talking to Marie every time I go in for an appointment, and I can't say that I've ever been happy to just chat with previous stylists.

The rest of the Blues staff is fantastic, really professional and friendly.  Plus, they give you a delicious tea before your cut and occasionally stream Pandora through the stereo.  It's not the fanciest place on the planet, but the space is appealing and clean, plus I never have problems with appointments starting on time.  And, they never try to upsell me on product I don't need!

Blues seems to want to actually keep regular customers, and they've kept me for over three years now.  Hell, I'm moving away from Madison in the spring and I still plan to come back every 6 weeks or so for a styling.  If I'm willing to travel hundreds of miles to get my hair styled by Marie, isn't that a good sign?

Good cuts, which is most important, but I agree that scheduling is an issue.  The reason they take your coat and serve you tea is because they don't start on time -- I was kept waiting at least 15 minutes for every appointment, even without other clients ahead of me.  Maybe it is part of the groovy laid-back vibe they want to promote, but to me it is disrespectful of my time.  If I want to relax and sip tea before my haircut I'll arrive 15 minutes early.  So I am here seeking a new salon...

Outstanding and creative work without being pretentious. The staff is very friendly & Marie, the manager, is a freaking genius with hair.

Have some really talented stylists, but I hear the management is kind of scary...? They seem to have a lot of staff changes.

Natalie is the best! I got my last hair cut with her on July 21st. Here it is September 25th with no new cut, and it's still super cute! I've recently moved and am afraid to go to anyone besides Natalie. She's been my girl for at least three years. I've heard good things about the others, but I've never had anyone but Natalie cut my hair.
