Back when I had a job, I would come to this Blue Water Taco Grill periodically. Not to order off the menu though. Sometimes I'd want a burrito for lunch but only have a few ingredients at home. So I'd head down to BWTG and get the tortillas, rice, and/or salsa that I needed to complete the meal. The tortillas are big and yummy, and maybe about 75cents (whereas Other Coast once charged me like $2 for one stupid hoagie roll). The rice is delicious. There are several salsa choices and all of them are good. And I think they let you sample the salsa. Service is always helpful and friendly, even with a bit of a language barrier at times.
So why only 3 Stars? I've ordered off the menu twice at BWTG (admittedly not at this location but I don't think it matters, it's a chain restaurant) and both times found it to be blaaaand. I was seriously underwhelmed with my chicken burrito a few years ago. Then about a month and a half ago I decided to be bold and try the shrimp tacos. Soggy shells and frozen shrimp detracted from the yummy salsa. I want to rate this place higher, but unless I'm purchasing individual items and not actually eating off their menu like a normal person, I see no reason to go here. That being said, I did see lots of people in my building with BWTG breakfast burritos so maybe they've got something special there.
Shared space with Chez Dave and across the hall from Fresh Basil. Near the tunnel to Rainier Square (tunnel may currently be blocked off), and down the hall fr O to Go, MOD Pizza, and Starbucks.
I never have that high of expectations for any food-court joint, but even for food-court this place is worth skipping.
I tried it twice for lunch, thinking that the first time may have been a fluke. Possibly ordering a fish item was a stupid mistake on my part, but I honestly didn't expect frozen breaded fish sticks to be microwaved in front of me. Shredded pork should have been safer, but in the end my burrito had almost as much liquid in it as my soda. And my soda had more flavor.
Conveniently located in the 2 Union Square complex, their breakfast burritoes are my official go-to item for mornings at work when things are going a little rough. They recently started charging me extra to dump a small spoonful of beans on my eggs and sausage, though, and that really rubbed me the wrong way. I probably won't stop going there for a breakfast burrito once every couple weeks, but for all other meals, Taco Del Mar in the Convention Center is my generic, mediocre Mexican joint of choice.
Meh... Like many of the mexican places in town, it's average. Not a whole lot of flavor, kinda overpriced, and served up by someone you really wouldn't wanna hang out with on a regular basis. Diet Dr. Pepper is cool, but not when it's the most exciting thing in your meal.
