Fair Oaks, CA
After our favorite Chinese/Thai restaurant closed we had to once again, find another gem. We came to Yelp looking and we decided to try Blue Sky.
The Mongolian beef has red Thai chili's in it and it's really good and spicy. The pot stickers have a hint of lemon grass or ginger in them, making them taste really fresh. Everything we have ordered has been really fresh and not disappointing at all in regard to spice or seasoning.
We have never eaten in, always take-out but they're very friendly and their estimated times are spot on. We're on our way to becoming regulars! -

BLAND! BLAND! BLAND!
We ordered the Salt & Pepper Spareribs, Vegetables Fried Rice, Special Chow Fun, and Chicken Broccoli and, I kid you not, everything was BLAND! The portions were generous, but unfortunately, we threw more than half of everything away; none of it was worth saving.
Free delivery with $20 order, but took about 45 minutes. -

I almost gave them 4 stars, but, staying true to the star system, this place is "A-OK" and nothing is wrong with that. Definitely Americanized, sweet and extra saucy "Chinese" food. If that is what you are craving, this place really is great. Friendly service, good for kids. Most of the customers seemed to be locals, known to the couple running the place by first names. We had a party of nine, which they accommodated with a smile. Brought pictures and crayons for the kids. Didn't rush us out the door after dinner.
We had fried rice, white rice, hot braised fish, sweet and sour pork, lemon chicken, mongolian beef, general's chicken, prawns with garlic sauce, and and kung pao chicken. Everyone enjoyed all of the entrees. Large portions.
I wouldn't hesitate to try this place if your in the mood for this type of Chinese food. -

Went here on based on the decent yelp reviews. Not a bad place, my cashew nut chicken lunch special was ok for the price, good portion. My wife had the brocolli beef lunch special, tasted not so good, had a weird flavor to it I just cant describe politely. Other than this the place was clean and service was good. Probably will not eat here again.

My husband loves this place. He's also a sugar addict, so keep that in mind. The food here caters to the taste of the neighborhood it inhabits (lower middle class, mostly), so you'll find that things may be quite sweet, or quite salty. I finally figured out that I can get a great meal here by ordering something with a lot of vegetables and asking for not very much sauce and extra heat. However, if you're a salty-sweet fan, this place is heaven. Also, the atmosphere is very homey and the service is wonderful.

Nice place. Ok food. Friendliest hostess one could hope for. I will give them another try and next time ask for a recommendation.

I'm not sure what all the rave is about. I came and got lunch the other day and was not impressed. The food was very bland and tasteless.

The best Chinese in Sacramento Roseville area that I have had! Fresh well cooked and big portions. Probably the best General Chicken I have had ever!

I'm stoked! Just got take out to fuel a long night of work and it was great.
It's a bit out of my way, but I finally found a spot that's not corporate chinese or insanely americanized low quality chinese.
The portions are super generous. And the quality is great. I'm personally trying to move towards becoming a vegetarian, and so I try to avoid meat, but they're meat was better than what you should get considering the affordability of the dishes.
I totally enjoyed their eggplant in spicy garlic sauce. It's loaded with other veggies too. Carrots, mushrooms, water chestnuts, green onions, etc.
The lady who took my order and rang me up was the sweetest person ever. S -

Hey this place is alright for a hole-in-the-wall. When our group arrived we were greeted by a Russian and the clientele was clearly elderly women - I was a little apprehensive. Turns out he, one of the owners, is a real crack up and a good chinese chef. The Kung Pao Chicken was pretty good. The price is right and I will go back, not often, but i will go back...

Our favorite local hole in the wall. Small, cozy, women always at the front seating and answering phones must be the owner- she is SO nice! they have a good size menu and service has always been great. My daughter loves the orange chicken! Give them a try, I can assure you there is nothing else within miles!

My husband and I just moved back to the sacramento area from southern california. We currently don't have a fridge so its been alot of eating out. So after exhausting all the other cuisine groups we decided it was time for chinese. thanks to all the other yelpers out there we decided to go with Blue Sky.
We opted for the sezuhan dinner plus mu shu beef and orange chicken. So it started with potstickers, i consider myself a potsticker connoisseur (cause I love them!) and they have the most amazing potsickers!! Then wonton soup, delicious! Kung Pao Chicken very flavorful, not super spicy. Mongalian Beef THE BEST! Mu Shu beef soo good had to stop myself from eating all of it. and the orange chicken was so so so good, not extra sugary like alot of the sauces are. Just amazing!
The service was wonderful the staff was just as friendly as could be. Definitely going again, and recommending to all my friends! -

So there we were, thinking about how delicious some hot&sour soup would be and took to looking for a place to try (since our fav is all the way out in Folsom). Blue Sky isn't exactly close but we decided to give it a try. The lady who took our order, I assume the owner, was so inviting and nice and set them off on a good start. Picking it up, she was every bit as nice in person. She appeared so genuinely grateful to us, a rapidly fading quality in a lot of places these days. The food was good. The soup was definitely hot and delicious. Our other items were good as well. All in all, I would venture to say that we shall return.

Review from Ted S.
The wife and I got a hankering for Chinese food watching an episode of "Seinfeld" last night -- but realized we haven't really found a local spot we like a lot. Thanks to Yelp, we may have a winner, and that's Blue Sky.
We opted to do a pick-up, even though they deliver within a three-mile radius (free if your order is over $20). Placing the order over the phone was fast and easy; I had some questions answered (such as "Are the egg rolls vegetarian?" which they are), told the nice lady what we wanted, and that was that.
Pickup was fine too. There's parking spaces outside, conveniently. The restaurant itself looked quite comfortable and clean; nothing fancy but nice.
Food took a bit longer than the 15 minutes I was told over the phone, but that wasn't a big deal.
Importantly, the food itself was quite good. I ordered the Mandarin Chicken, which proved a bit sweeter and less spicy than I'd anticipated -- but it was still very good. Also, the portion of chicken was very generous, enough for two seatings.
My wife ordered braised bean curd and vegetables, which was quite good as well. It included plenty of different fresh vegetables (carrots, broccoli, zucchini, etc.), rather than simply bok choy and other more bland veggies. Her portion was similarly large. (Notably, they have a large selection of vegetarian dishes on their menu.)
The egg rolls were so-so, I've gotta say. We'll try something different next time.
A couple of minor complaints:
1. The coupons on the restaurant's Web site are oddly difficult to find. They include a 10% discount or a free seafood won ton appetizer on orders of $25 or more.
2. The person who greeted me when I arrived for pickup was strangely unfriendly. I told him I was there to pick up an order and he sort of grunted an acknowledgement without giving me any idea if it was going to be right out or would take a few minutes or anything.
Anyway, we'll definitely stop by Blue Sky again, be it to dine in or pick up some chow (mein). Good food, good value. -

Once again we're on a search for good chinese food! Yelped and this restaurant came up. Walked in and it was small and friendly. Their menu was family style, which in my opinion the best! We ordered the wonton soup, kung pao chicken, snow peas and beef, and of course fried rice. Wonton soup was fresh, amazing and full of fresh vegetables and they didn't skimp on the flavor or the wontons. And, to no suprise the rest of the food was great! Going back!

We tried this place for dinner and had never been there before. We will definitely go again. Beware, the portions are large! We tried Sizzling Rice Soup.It came with nice fresh vegetables, shrimp and pork. We also had the Mongolian Beef, pork Egg Fu Young, Garlic Spicy Shrimp and the Cherry Pork. Everything was great!

Great food, good prices, and nice service. I wish this place was in SF. We got the szechuan prawns, garden veggies, and general chicken. All was excellent. I'll be back next time I'm up in the area.

Absolutely delicious! We ordered egg rolls, the crab stuffed wontons, the happy family deluxe, an order of mixed house chow mein and steamed rice...we brought in a coupon for a free appetizer for meals exceeding $20 and spent less than $20...insisting we keep and use the coupon again. (special coupon if you pick it up instead of order delivery...brilliant! More to enjoy!) I'm used to really salty Chinese food and this place left me with a full belly and no stomach ache. The restaurant was full and customers looked happy. We are Looking forward to ordering again!

Tried this place after much coaxing from my bf...
I've been searching for good Chinese food in Sacramento and I have to say this place is pretty decent. I still havn't quite found anything that is nearly as good as some of the Chinese restaurants in LA Chinatown or SF Chinatown... but I'm not giving up hope just yet!
I wasn't too sure of this place when I first walked in because 1. it was hella small and 2. there was only one white family eating there and an old white couple that was just leaving as we pulled up. Not to sound racist or anything, but if you walk into a Chinese restaurant and there are no Asians eating there and hella white people there instead, run the other way because the food won't be real Chinese food!
We ordered Hong Kong style chow mein (one of my favorite dishes), general chicken, crab cream cheese won tons, and sizzling rice soup and it was all very tasty! My only criticism is that the gravy on the chow mein wasn't quite right- it was a little too strong like they had put too much oyster sauce or soy sauce in it. The general chicken tasted almost like sweet and sour chicken and wasn't spicy like it was supposed to, but I really liked the flavor.
What I also liked about this place is that the food came up pretty quickly and the prices were reasonable. Will definitely be back soon. -

Ok I admit I made the mistake of thinking panda express was decent chinese food and always went there for my quick fix. Boy am I glad I found this place. The blue sky family meal for 2 could easily feed 4. "happy family" is my all time favorite new dish. it has everything in it, EVERYTHING, and it is awesome.

Carmichael, CA
This place is fantastic. It's a little hole-in-the-wall type of establishment, conveniently located past McDonald's and right next to a liquor store. Okay, so the location sucks. But the food is to die for.
I was introduced to this restaurant by my boyfriend, and was I ever thankful for that. I took a whole party of people here for my birthday, and they all loved it. My dad stated he had found his new favorite Chinese restaurant in this area (previously our fav was Wonderful Chinese).
The service is better than your average Chinese restaurant. Your water glasses will actually be refilled. Service can be a little slow, and sometimes they take their time in the kitchen. That's okay, it's worth the wait.
Their sesame chicken is spectacular, mouthwatering, divine, and highly recommended. The preparation of the food is artistic--if you order the sesame chicken it comes garnished with a circle of elegantly sliced oranges and strawberries. Some other dishes that stand out are the egg flower soup (although a few too many mushrooms in it for me personally) and the broccoli beef. A friend had the sweet and sour pork, and proclaimed it delicious. Another favorite amongst my friends was the walnut prawns. Every time I've been to Blue Sky and someone's ordered them, they have fallen in love with them.
Prices run a little higher here than you would expect from what appears to be a hole-in-the-wall. Its location may be, but the food is worth every penny. -

Carmichael, CA
My faith in finding "exceptional food" at Blue Sky diminished the moment I stepped through the veil of its 70's exterior and into the more contemporary interior. Despite the high marked and over-capitalized reviews, my restaurant-sense tingled and I knew that I'd been suckered into eating substandard Chinese Food. Too late to back out now.
Their menu consists of the usual (Americanized Chinese Food) suspects, Beef, Chicken, and Pork this or that, and also offered up a healthy variety of alternatives for a Pescetarian like myself. Maybe it won't be that bad after all.
My order of Vegetable Chow Mein and Sweet & Sour Prawns came out in record time (a definite plus)...I was pleased with the looks...the taste, however, was severely lacking. I might as well have been eating greasy cardboard strings and sugary puffs of styrofoam. What's more, the meal DID NOT come with a side of White Rice. I had to ask. (I thought Rice was standard issue...)
It's a sad day, indeed, when a restaurant that's been around as long as Blue Sky doesn't live up to the hype. -

Dine in or deliver, always consistant excellent food. Family friendly. Its a small space and service might get a little slow when busy, but by far the best in Carmichael! My son loves the Lemon Chicken.

American Chinese Food Vrs. Authentic Chinese Food
Blue Sky is American Chinese Food. For the price which is not worth the food is better spent going to Bel Air Chinese Food. Bel Air is far better and much lower price.
Advice for Blue Sky: I like authentic Chinese Food. Please fix. Add more flavor and spice. -

My husband hates tofu, but loves their hot and sour soup. He asked them if he could order the soup without the tofu, which I thought was pushing it. They obliged. And they deliver free to my house. Five stars, it is!

This is my third or fourth time ordering from here. I have never been to the restaurant. I always have food delivered. And I am more then satisfied EVERY time. The food is flavorful and they do not skimp on the portions! The only downside is the min delivery is $20. But the prices are reasonable. They defiantly have my business!
Update: Finally got to go to the restaurant! It's really small inside and got crowded quick. But the food was awesome! -

After living in Carmichael for almost three years, we decided to look for a decent (and close) Chinese restaurant. Thanks Yelp, for helping us discover Blue Sky! We've been weekly customers for just over a month now, and every meal has been great. Our favorites: Sesame Chicken, Curry Chicken, Broccoli in Spicy Garlic Sauce.

pretty good chinese food, which is difficult to find in the fair oaks area. the place is small, and kind of run down. but that's where some of the best food comes from. i've eaten here numerous times for lunch and always get good portions and very fresh, great tasting food.
they do not offer chinese donut. -

In the mood for Chinese and found this little gem on Yelp. After reading the reviews I decided to give it a shot. My food was ready before I arrived. The lady inside was super pleasant. I have to admit on pulling up to the restaurant it would not be a spot I would drive by and stop for. It is a hole in the wall. The food was deeelish!!! Definitely a fan. Relatively priced, delicious and great customer service.

Actually decent fried rice and vegetarian food. Not much else I can say about the take out other than it's Chinese food, it was hot, and I didn't get explosive diarrhea.

My friends and I recently discovered this place, but its already become a regular spot for us. The owners are incredibly nice and provide service that is really above and beyond. The food is also very fresh un-artificial tasting. The honey walnut chicken is amazing! But then again, so is everything Ive tried at Blue Sky.

Review from Shelly T.

Yesterday was my third time at Blue Sky and I have to say I will definitely be going back. For one the food is really good. We get the same thing every time: Combination chow fun, orange chicken, walnut shrimp and when you spend $25 or more and pick up your food with the coupon on their website (http://www.blueskymenu...) under "food to-go", you get free crab and cream cheese wontons. So, what I am saying here is tasty and cheap.
To me, customer service is also very important. They are extremely nice there, especially the lady that usually takes to-go orders. She wouldn't even let me give her a tip...in fact they always say that to me...
If that wasn't enough, they also deliver FOR FREE! I would definitely offer a tip though, even though they always try to deny it...lol.
All in all, I would say give them a try, they have great food, cheap prices, coupons, awesome customer service and they deliver..beat that. -

The Blue Sky is our Chinese restaurant of choice close to home. The cooking is always excellent, bordering on gourmet quality.
We often get meals delivered after a hectic day.
The choices around the Manzanita Split are rather limited; this is the best around these parts without making a long trek to Midtown or even Watt Ave.
Thumbs-up for the Blue Sky! -

Best Chinese food in Sac, in this reviewer's opinion. OK, I've only tried a handful of restaurants near my home in Arden Arcade, but I now regularly drive to Carmichael for the excellent dishes from Blue Sky. Love love love the House Fried Rice!
Prices are typical for a small mall-front restaurant ... reasonable! -

This may not be the most authentic place but it is a very solid everday of the week kind of place. The decor feels homey to me if a little kitschy and everyone who works there is really nice. We've eaten there 4 or 5 times and always had solid experiences. Can't say there's anything we wouldn't order again. Its not a special occasion type of place, lets be clear but it sure hits the spot on a weeknight.

I've tried their mongolian beef and kung pao chicken and both were really good. They have good chow mein. The fried rice is just ok. Little hole-in-the-wall place with good prices. Service was quick and friendly.
