Great course, cheap yet delicous breakfast at the cafe.
THe proshop was a little disordered, but the guys were nice.
FORE!!!
What a great course, especially for the hacker (such as myself) to find each hole challenging as the next. Add in the varying landscapes and odd fairways, the 18 hole course can truly whip the novice into shape.
My first foray here usually makes me want to match up the men in terms of brawn and my arrogance belittles the running forward up to the red markers. I was very lucky to be within the company of good friends so swinging off the primary markers made me feel a bit better. I personally cannot stand waiting for them to swing first and then having to jog forward to the "pink" markers.
I remember reviewing the scorecard prior to leaving the clubhouse on foot (uh huh, you heard me right) and exclaimed to him "No way are we walking this course" so off he went to procure a cart. Our golfing outings usually result in huffing the course and given my current state of affairs, I have no complaints about working off excess calories. A good thing too, since Hole #5 was 500+ yards and uphill. Hole #7 is quite interesting and proved the main challenge: a downhill fairway that hooks sharply to the right. My friend aimed right for the tee. My strategy? Conservative. My swing resulted in a connect-the-dots formation, L-shaped. Unfortunately, my ball still landed in some reeds elsewhere.
Results of the 18 hole challenge? Let's just say after spending a warm day in the sunny Vallejo weather, downing several jugs of Gatorade punch (the runners on carts kept the golfers refreshed), and eating three fruit'n'nut bars, this lady was happy enough to have finished, despite her horrid score.
A fantastic site (the front 9 or the East course, which I personally find gratifying) with a great staff for the money (twilight rates apply) and an even more fantastic course to not only challenge but keep one entertained (I get bored quite quickly, sort of like my dating life) and finding out way later that the Noodle ball in that sand trap near #12 was actually not mine.
Darn it.

I love Blue Rock!
What a great community course with friendly staff and real golf pros who leave their attitude at the door. Lessons are a great value in price and expertise. I have never had to wait more than a few minutes to get a space on the range and booking tee times are easy.
This is Solano's best golf value.

I had a similar experience that MO had. A friend from our state capital, Sacramentucky, and I met half way for a round of golf and selected the west course of Blue Ridge Springs to play at.
Arriving, the parking is confusing with multiple lots, and, after I had lugged my bag around, I find that they have a shuttle cart to pick you up that was idle at 9am on a Sunday. Odd.
The harder west course wasn't bad at all, and the course was well maintained. Both the pro shop and the "cafe" leave lots to be desired and there isn't a decent place to get chow for miles.
We had let a group jump ahead of us after we stopped for beers at the turn, and the group that was behind them was a bunch of jerks. The people we let in front of us were slowpokes and certainly were not playing "ready golf". The jerks behind us kept yelling, and finally I had to talk to them. Then they send the marshal to follow us and he drives up and says that he was watching us and thought we were playing fast!
The attitudes I got here are simply not what I'm accustomed to in the golf world, where everyone is fairly pleasant. I certainly will not be coming back here ever again.

It's nice to have a decent golf course in Vallejo. Actually we're rather lucky since we've actually got 4 of 'em, if you count Hiddenbrook. Allow me for now to focus on Blue Rock Springs, since that's the one I'm reviewing here.
The golf course itself is quite nice, with both an East and West course. The driving range is a true bargain but isn't the most practical in the morning. I came here last Saturday at 8 AM and was basically staring directly into the sun. Obviously while I'm still a golf amateur, there was little way for me to even see where the ball was going since a giant fiery ball was all that my eyes could see (and that despite the sunglasses.) It seems like it'd be a lovely driving range to shoot balls at in the evening though, since the sun would be right behind you.
Still, when you take into account the cost to play here, it's a true bargain. They also offer series of 5 lessons for $150. That's $30/hour, which is a pretty sweet deal to learn the basics of golf.

This is a great course for Vallejo, no offense. I took advantage of their early bird special, only $25 before 8am. I played the west course, and was very pleased with the course. Overall the course is well maintained. The greens are in great shape, and fairways aren't too narrow so you can whip out the driver with ease. The layout is pretty straigh forward. There a few elevated greens, which make the course challenging. The west course is easier than the east course, but it holds it own. You can walk this course, unlike mare island. The only con is that it can get pretty crowded. I played monday morning and by 10am the course was really busy. Definitely recommend playing this course
I've played at Blue Rock many many times and it's one of the better bargains in the area and the course is decent too! It's got a lot of elevation changes to challenge you and the wind can start to gust pretty good at the higher elevations.
The East side seems to be easier, but the West side has its challenges as well. I've never encountered any problems with the staff and they're all relatively nice. They also allow groups of five, which is nice because not many courses do. The golf carts were also recently replaced with electric golf carts, so that's a plus too, since the old ones were loud and stinky.
Oh, and the polish dogs at the turn are some of the best out there, in relation to grub at other golf courses!
Overall, this is a good course for the $ and it's usually our go-to course if all else fails.
I havent been playing golf for long but so far, Blue Rock is on my top 3. I have only played the "easier" West Course and my best 18 hole score was an 80. That was after playing for only 5 months.
Staff is friendly, course is well maintained, the snack kart needs to drive around more, nice elevation changes. Greens fee is good.
Dont be scared to go for green at hole 4. You can carry the stream that lies just infront of the green. I have birdie this hole twice now.
My 7 year old has played here twice and can get around better than you would think.
My first time playing here I got into an altercation where I let a golfer play thru and the guys behind him somehow thought I had cut into there game for some reason. Words were said as I brushed it off and took my son into the cafe for some food. Leaving my son in the cafe, I went out and took care of the matter. No, I didnt smash the guys face in w/ my club. I would have if he got more confrontational. At the end of it all, he was just another ignorant golfer bringing the "hood" to the green. I guess he didnt think he'd get any lip back from another "golfer".
I've always had a good time at this course.
Short but hilly golf course where you'll need to exercise some strategy... east and a west course.
Cheap rates, but you'll be burning some gas if driving from the city.
If I have enough time to drive out here this is the course that I always choose to play. They actually have two courses to choose the West & East course.
I prefer to play the East course as it's somewhat more challenging for me and some of the views are gorgeous. It's relatively easy to get tee times at this course unlike all of the courses in the City. I always rent a cart when I play just because golf is suppose to be relaxing and what could be more relaxing than driving a cart and hitting a golf ball followed by your favorite adult beverage. This course does have quite a few hills but, not to the point where it will frustrate you while you play. The fairways and greens are always kept in very good shape. The green fees are fair but, not cheap especially if you decide to rent a cart like I always do. You get to use your driver on most holes and the par three's aren't gimmes either.
So, if you're in the East Bay heading towards the outlets get dropped off here and play a round for 4 hours and have them pick you up on the way back to the city.
I just started playing golf and so far this my favorite course in the bay area.
Great tracks. There are two...East and West side. The west, I think is an "easier" course, although there are some tight par 4s that will remind you that "you're still an amateur". Very hilly. Sometimes windy. You never get a "flat" lie, so this is excellent practice . Greens are in ex. shape. Good views of the bay from the hill tops. Lite on your wallet. Good bargin. The staff is friendly. My local course....can't say nothin' but good stuff.
The course really has a lot of challenges that keeps things fun. Wind can also play a big factor on both East and West courses which keeps you guessing. The speed of play is my main problem with this course. I've experienced a 6 hour round and a 5.5 hour round, both on weekends and this is no fun. With reachable par-5's and par-4's on the west course, eagles are a possibility with great shots, but the course will punish you if they are not great. As for the East course, the wind will definitely make you second guess your club selection. It also requires a great deal more distance than the West. 5 stars for the fun and price, but minus 1 for pace.
Played the west course. Weather was beautiful, peaceful, very serene. Hole 3 is such a sight. The tee box is about 80-90 yards higher than the green. Well taken care of, and the greens fees aren't very steep either.
Challenging golf course with cliffs and gorgeous views. I like playing here for the manicured grass and the huge fairways. This is a great place to take someone golfing or to impress a visitor.
