I love their back balcony which has a nice view. Plus they have a decent food here.

I had a Barbeque Chicken pizza which surprisingly good.

My brother and his band play here every other Friday so I've been here three times so far. The performance area in the back is very intimate and holds ~30-40 people comfortably.

In the front of the shop, they serve up pizzas, sandwiches, and salads, along with beer & wine. Pricing is a little steep and the food is by no means award-winning, but with free live music, I can't complain.

Came after a spa day with the ladies. Wanted something quick, affordable and yummy.

I shared the Chinese chicken salad and the turkey sandwich with a friend. The lines can get long hence the wait can be long but everything was good and the margarita strong. Seating available out front and in the back. It's a nice alternative for when you want something more low-key than most places in the area. The portions were good and I really liked my sandwich.

A sunny summer day - just visited Preston Wynne and I was craving a small meal. Enter Blue Rock Shoot. Although I loved Blue Rock from many previous visits-I turned to Yelp to see the latest. Once again no disappointment. Had a salami sandwich on Asiago bagel. Nummy. A little weird but nummy nonetheless. Fresh bagel, sprouts, salami and the trimmings. I grabbed a Metro and headed out to the patio for some grubbage. Good stuff. Not too bad to the bank account either. About 6$ for the manwich. I later had an espresso too which was equally nummy. It made eaves dropping other conversations around me that much more pleasurable. Blue Rock Shoot-cool place, great location, plenty of parking and friendly staff & strangers. I hear the music is good too. Quite an eclectic place.

This based solely on a visit for lunch on the weekend. I realize they have entertainment and events but this is based solely on food.

The sandwiches we had were mediocre at best and nothing special. Ingredients were average and the portion of meat on the bread was skimpy.

Won't be back for food as there appear to be better food options on Big Basin to try.

The bagel sandwiches and smoothies here are delicious! It is pricey compared to other bagel shops, but cheap compared to the other food in the area.

Grab some food and take it to the park!

They are known to have live music but I haven't experienced it yet.

    Definitely great to try.

There weren't many places open on the 4th so we decided to stop by Blue Rock Shoot as it looked like a nice casual spot.  The area to order was pretty tight and it was a little confusing on how to actually order.  We got a sandwich and it was ok...nothing to write home about.  The spicy mustard they had on it was very good though.

It looks like they have musicians perform in the back room which would be fun to see as it was a cool little space there.

I usually get take-out only because I don't have a lot of time to eat here or I'm ordering for someone else.

The food I always get here? BOMB! Veggie sandwich with toasted Asiago bagel. NEVER ceases to fail me. I request usually without mustard (cos I dun likee) but it's still amazingly good, and fairly cheap!

    Love it! (:

I hate to give this place 2 stars because with a little professionalism from the owners, this could be a 5 star cafe; but it is obvious to me, after several visits within the last 4 months, that the new management just doesn't really care about the quality of their establishment.

First, let me say what's good about this place:

    1. Live music a couple nights a week--always a plus when they support local musicians, especially jazz musicians.

    2. This place offers one of the best views of any coffee shop in all of Saratoga, Los Gatos, and San Jose. The two tiered balconies look out onto beautiful trees and the nearby creek.

    3. Sufficient parking

    4. Free-wifi

    5. Plenty of seating

    6. They offer more than just coffee and tea, including pastries, sandwiches, pizza, beer and wine.

    Here's the bad:

    1. The customer service is totally average; furthermore, the workers are doing the role of baristas without the skills of well-trained baristas. So, the quality of the drinks and food suffers for it.

    2. Its namesake, the actual blue rock shoot on the side of the building, is not the attractive water fountain that it's supposed to be; rather, it repository of flotsam and jetsam. Seriously, it's just full of trash, cigarette butts, and little pools of filthy rain water.

    3. The building is very log-cabinish, which is rustic, but they don't pull off any ambiance with it since it all looks decrepit and in disrepair.

    4. The lighting throughout--there are three tiers--is pretty bad, especially in the lower levels where they have annoying and depressing fluorescent lighting.

    5. The chairs and upholstery benches are beat up, ripped, and often loose from their foundations--just run down.

    6. At the back of the building--where the great view is--at the bottom entrance there are old broken chairs and tables that have just been thrown out. They've been there for months and are just randomly laying about.

    7. Just in general, there is garbage strewn all about outside and all over the premises--it's kinda nasty.

    8. The downstairs tier--the area most plagued by the florescent lighting--is cold and gloomy. Again, the lighting is terrible.

    9. Everything is a bit over-priced, for the quality of the product. We tolerate high prices at Philz Coffee because Philz is awesome. Blue Rock Shoot is no Philz so you'll be paying alot for inferior quality and service.

    10. More often than not, when there is no live music, the music they play thru the cafe speakers is Mexican pop music or mariachi music--that might be cool for a taqueria but not for a downtown Saratoga cafe.

All and all, this place is not living up to its awesome potential. Why the owners and management tolerate a trash strewn, run-down, establishment is beyond me. This place is on its last leg unless they get with the program and find new owners.

3 stars?? Are you kidding me???

This place is a joke when it comes to lunch. It sits in an expensive area and could have the potential to do so much better since most places downtown are closed for lunch. Most are dinner places.

The sandwich meat is extremely thing and tasteless. But not the prices..no no no. Not here. You pay top-dollar to some guy behind the counter who couldn't under stand me and I couldn't understand him. He just kept saying "Turkey, Turkey"...so I guess it was my sandwich.

Definitely skip this one and try one of the real deli's, like the one across the street for some real food.

Walk by this place, saw a lot of people sitting on the outside patio (thinking, must be a good place for lunch!). WRONG!  Wow, was I totally wrong! Food here was super expensive, gross and waited crazy long in-line to order and pick up. What's wrong with these people? Is it me? The food isn't good, the place definitely looks old and out-dated. And the bread for the sandwich are very questionable?!?! Lunch for two; salad + sandwich + (1) smoothie = $24....Really expensive!

Won't recommend, or come back! For your wallet and stomach safety, stay away!

I rave about the chicken pesto bagel sandwich here. It's probably the best one I've ever had. The bagels are always fresh and they're so yummy when they are toasted. My friends highly enjoy coming here too.

The service here is a little slow, especially during lunch rushes (I used to come here during school lunches), but for that chicken pesto bagel sandwich, it's definitely worth it.

Sometimes they have live music, which is always fun. As an added plus, they provide free wifi here too.

Sit in the back, outside if you can. It's super pretty. :)

P.S. The street parking is very limited, as in the cars there don't ever move. What you want to do is go further down the street, and turn into 4th St. (the super steep downhill slope). Turn right again and you'll be in the parking lot for Wildwood Park. There are stairs leading directly up to Blue Rock Shoot (That's also where the blue rock shoot fountain is).

Had it once after hiking at nearby Castle Rock Park.

Prices are reasonable. You can get sandwiches here for $6.25.

Service is chilly and distant, and slightly slow in speed. They brought out entrees as they were prepared. The first one in our group was a toasted bagel with sliced lox, followed by the sandwiches, and a veggie pizza, each with about a 5 minute delay in between. My tomato mozzerella with pesto was definitely not filling, but fortunately I had brought along sun chips. (An entire day of hiking definitely takes it out of you) The quality of food was mediocre, and the bread was not necessarily fresh (slightly hard, even when toasted/warmed). The place did not look very well kept, and seating was not too impressive, so we ate outside.

However, its reasonable (if not cheap) prices does help its ratings a bit. If sandwiches were a dollar more expensive, it would probably deserve a 2/5.

This place used to be so different than the last time I visited it over 15 years ago. It used to be a posh, hip, alternative place to have a cup of coffee and study for finals. I went there today with a bunch of friends and our children, and I was surprised by how run down it was. There were huge garbage cans everywhere (which indicated they prefer not to take out the trash very often and instead let it pile up before taking a trip outside), the downstairs area was smelly, cold, had very little lighting, and the lighting that did exist was fluorescent and ugly, the outside waterfall on the side was clearly broken and an eyesore, there was a piece of plywood thrown as an overhang above one of the walkways, the bathroom was smelly and disgusting, my chai latte was watery and lacked any flavor, and customer service was non-existent.

The reason I gave it two stars instead of one is because it's still in a very cool location, and the upstairs was more welcoming than the downstairs. However, it was decrepit looking and it gave me the feeling that it's either under new ownership or the owners simply don't have the money and don't care anymore, so they've chosen not to maintain it. Sad for such a great place like Downtown Saratoga.

It sucks (and is very rare) when I feel compelled to give a bad review, but I was appalled and am surprised that other residents continue to patronize this establishment. By the way , the pictures look NOTHING like the actual venue!

Came here for the 1st time the other day and was very pleased by the quaint atmosphere and the outdoor seating in the front, right on the strip and the more private back upper deck. Had the BLT which was packed with bacon and  tons of fresh veggies on freshly baked bread. I enjoyed eating my lunch on the more private, quiet, outdoor deck. It was very relaxing! Looks like they make fresh bagels and pastries but were almost out by lunch time. They  also have a wide assortment of coffees. I look forward to eating here again!

Great little place to grab a quick sandwich & a soda when you are in Saratoga.

I thought it was a fun casual bar at first - that is how it appears from the outside.

Once inside you are clear it's a deli.  I enjoyed sitting on the patio in the back.... It could have been a little more lively in there...

Afterall, I was in there on a Saturday afternoon.

Ohhh it makes me very sad to be sitting at blue rock right now.  I used to come here every day during highschool (2001-2004) and years after.  Back then, Blue Rock was so popular, vibrant, full of people and bursting with personality.  It didn't matter time of day or night it was, there was always a familiar face.  The food was great, the coffee full of flavor, but most of all the surroundings were amazing, absolutely unbelieveable. The environment was rustic, like a log cabin.  There were four levels, including two outside patios, decorated with log chairs and tables, waterfalls flowing down the side of the stairs, and the outside of walls decorated with rocks.  There was an amazing view of Wildwood Park and when I first started coming here there was even a bookstore downstairs!!  I'm sad to report but I just returned after being gone for 10 years and this place has really gone downhill.  The downstairs patio is full of trash and cigarette butts, the waterfall doesn't run and instead holds dirty rain water, a peice of plywood hangs over the walkway, the old rustic wooden chairs are broken but still out for use, the door to the inside is broken, the lights inside don't work and instead there is an oval, fluorescent "budweiser" light that looks like it belongs in a dive bar.  It's even missing the cover so the light is harsh.  The walls inside and out contain a bit of graffitti, the pictures are crooked on the walls, and the chairs look like they belong in a hotel (perfectly put below by another yelper :)).  The sandwich was great!!  The service was adequate.  I just wish Blue Rock would pull it together and revamp this place.  It has soo much potential.  I couldnt stand to give it less than three stars because it carries so many great memories.

Drove through Saratoga on a Sunday afternoon after a long day in Castle Rock State Park with a grumbling belly. We needed some quick eats for the road and spotted this lovely looking spot off the main downtown drag.

First impression: Cute, nice outdoor seating, jazz combo playing in the back, nice selection of smoothies, sandwiches and salads for the road as well as a variety of baked goods for the post-meal sweet tooth.

Actual impression: Decent sandwich with lots of options for bread and toppings. Had a basic turkey sando with all the fixings, which included various veggies and condiments. Sandwich was extremely heavy on the spicy mustard (and there was no indication on any signage that it was gonna be spicy) which resulted in some hand-waving-over-mouth action on the road. I like mustard but a slight smear on the bread, not half the jar on both sides. Ended with a macaroon cookie, which was stale but tasty enough.

Satisfied the appetite and the need at the time. Loved that they had old-school jazz blowing up the back of the place, but not sure I'd come back for a repeat visit.

The lovely J and I came here after the Plumed Horse event to grab a bite to eat. (Yes. We read that there were nibbles served and did not expect to be fed... besides, after a few tramples by a few hungry heifer-y vultures we had enough of the place! Seriously!! There were these skinny girls that would throw out their sharp elbows and double fist just to get a smidgen of food! It's insane!)

Anyway, I got a toasted bagel toasted with butter and it tasted like margarine. Oh well... J got a veggie sandwich that was filled with cucumbers, sprouts, tomatoes, and random bits of rabbit food... but no cheese and no avocado... Avocado is what makes a veggie sandwich a veggie sandwich. :( Minus another star...

OH yeah the bathroom light randomly turns off in mid-pee so I was there sitting on the toilet waving my hands around hoping that the sensor would get the light back on...

It was a beautiful day, the birds were chirping (I think) the sun was shining (it was hot) and I felt like a drive up highway 9 was in order. As I passed through Saratoga I spotted Blue Rock Shoot and though it would be a good start before the drive...I was wrong.

I walked in, stepped up to the counter and the person standing behind it was doing something with the register and didn't acknowledge me for almost a minute. I was looking straight at him and he wouldn't even make eye contact. Just a "Hey, one minute" would suffice, instead of making me feeling like I'm interrupting something.

When I was finally able to order a cappuccino, it couldn't have been more disappointing. It was way too hot and had absolutely no flavor at all. In fact I'm sure, in some small way, it killed a piece of my inner child.

I'm usually able to find at least one good thing about a coffee shop, except this time there was nothing. Maybe I just wasn't hugged enough as a child. ;o)

The main reason I go here is to play Jazz in front of people and of course, listen to others. They hold a live jazz jam every Sunday from 4:00 to 6:30, so if you're one of those jazz fanatics, I totally recommend this place.

Alone on a Sunday afternoon, many years ago, I found myself at Blue Rock..... I mean, I actually did get myself there it wasn't a strange awakening or sleep walking experience.  I clearly remember ordering a glass of chardonnay which I thought was cool because it didn't seem like the log cabin kind of place that would offer a decent wine selection. I also ordered a huge salad of sorts which was delicious.  As my first time I felt obligated to taste test all the various dessert options.  They have giant cookies that look more appetizing then they taste but I did love the oatmeal raisin, the blueberry scone was a bit dry but I still get it every visit, the sorbet was just right.

I have continued to come back and visit again and again.  I love the coziness, the chunky wood furniture, the live music and poetry I've been lucky enough to stumble upon, the back patio next to the fountain for reading. All the employees have always been delightful.

I'm not a big coffee drinker but this is really meant to be a coffee shop and looks like a great scene in the mornings to hang out with your dog or kids and a cup o joe.

I've had such good memories of going here, especially during my second semester of senior year. I'd come here with my bff after school, and we'd sip on either white mochas or iced tea and giggle obnoxiously about boys.

Everything is reasonably priced, and worth your money! The chicken pesto sandwich is absolutely delicious, with alfalfa sprouts! Not a lot of sandwiches serve alfalfa sprouts, so it's a nice treat. Also, their egg and cheese bagels are pretty good. On hot days, their gelato is something delightful to snack on. Their iced tea is more on the strong side, but it's still good.

Their service is very good, too. They're friendly, and one time, being the clumsy girl I am, dropped my BLT sandwich upon receiving it and left a HUGE mess. After apologizing incessantly, the employee offered to make me a new sandwich and took my huge mess as no big deal. Whew!

The place is very spacious, considering there's the patio, the back, and a downstairs room. I don't know if it's just me but I get pretty claustrophobic near the entrance because it's pretty cramped and the strairs to go down is literally right in front of the entrance. I fear one day that I'm going to trip down there... (once again, I'm quite a clumsy girl).

Once in awhile, there's live music and poetry slams... haven't been to one yet, but that should change soon!

Blue Rock Shoot is a great place to relax, chit chat with your close friend, or even bring a book to read.

My cousin and I were on a motorcycle ride down Hwy 35 and decided to come down Hwy 9.  We stopped in Saratoga for a quick bite to eat at Blue Rock Shoot.  It was a hot Sunday afternoon, and it seemed like the only place open at the time.

I ordered a cup of coffee and a salami on sourdough with all the fixings.  The coffee was piping hot and delicious.  I don't remember the bean or the roast, but it hit the spot.  My sandwich was absolutely delicious, made with fresh ingredients, and very flavorful.  Service was quick and efficient.  I had my sandwich in about 10 minutes.

The ambiance was exactly what the doctor ordered.  There was plenty of outdoor seating both in front and in back.  There was a mix of young students relaxing, families chatting about weekend youth sports, and older people out on a Sunday bicycle ride.

As far as price, I paid about $10 for my coffee and sandwich.  In light of the area, I thought it was reasonably priced.

I also noticed a stage in back where live music is hosted.  That's always a plus in my book!

I recommend this place as a nice afternoon sandwich/beverage stop-in.  It seems like it would be a nice hang out in general, but I can't really attest to that.

Are you famished, crabby, covered in dirt and soaked with perspiration? Blue Rock Shoot is your kind of place!!

For nine dollars, you can have a bowl of "Greek" salad with potato salad (it was hidden under my greens), old mushrooms, chopped pizza toppings, artichokes, cucumber and feta cheese: http://www.yelp.com/bi...  Yum.

Not your cup of tea?  How about an over-priced, undersized, "large pizza" reminiscent of the stuff they used to serve you in your high school cafeteria?: http://www.yelp.com/bi... . Still not doing it for you, huh?  They have the most randomly composed menu ever, so I'm sure you'll find something to not quite satisfy you (like the house green salad: http://www.yelp.com/bi... ) while you stew in the sun on their outdoor porch.

NOTE: This is a counter place.  They will take your order at the counter.  They will ask your name at said counter when you order.  They will say your name loudly ONE time when your order comes up to said counter.  This is a very spacious place, so you WILL have to check the aforementioned counter periodically for your order because no one is going to come chasing after your tired ass to serve it to you.

Returning from our afternoon outing to Hakone Garden, my wife mentioned that she was a bit thirsty, by which she *really* meant that "since we are going thru Saratoga, I wanna stop and tarry a little while at the Blue Rock Shoot."

"Of course my dear..(meh..)"  Lord help me.. but ever since my addiction to kara*ke bars has gone full blossom.. all places that strike me as the antithesis of kara*ke bars (such as this place... or what's that place in Big Sur? *Nepenthe*.. yeah..) those type places make my face drop.. and my eyes glaze over .. especially since I know Susie is gonna wanna stop at them for sure.

But somehow  on *this* hot and lazy Sunday, Blue Rock Shoot was *just* right. The Sunday afternoon jazz band was enough *unlike* Kenny G.. to make it interesting to listen to.. and the hot sunny lazy day was perfect for killing some time lounging out on the big benches and tables out front..

So OK Blue Rock Shoot .. we met again on just the right day.. lucky for you..

I would give the jazz 4 stars, but we didn't even know they were there before we went in.  Otherwise, 1 star, as that is all you can leave with a review (or a warning).

Only wanted to have  a beer/wine after coming back from a hike in the Redwoods, so we stopped here.  Given it was 102* outside, but that is no reason not to install some ceiling fans.  We walked around the whole place, and felt like we were in a youth hostel.  For such a cool location, it has potential...but this place looks like a wreck.  There were tables with cigarette butts on them for f's sake.

I would rather brown bag the next beer on the way home then stop in here again...but the jazz was pretty nice.

I find it very strange that right when you walk into this place, the stairs are in front of you.  If that area gets crowded, you could easily fall to your death when all you intended for was a bite to eat or a sip to drink!  Regardless, it feels like a log cabin in here.

I had the Black & White Mocha and it was not bad.  Neither the dark chocolate or white chocolate was overpowering.  And it wasn't too sweet either.  They also have about 8 favors of ice cream which include the almond amaretto - yummy!  I definitely want to try the food here.

Wow, this place is absolutely incredible.  I have no idea how it even stays in business.  I'm as baffled by this phenomenon as I am by the inner-workings of a 45nm microprocessor.

I wanted SO BADLY to like this place.  A quiet place to get a cup of coffee in sleepy old Saratoga on the weekend?  Heck yeah!  What a novel concept!

    Wrong.

Grumpy staff, foul tasting sandwiches, rickety, uncomfortable tables and chairs in the front patio area, disgusting fountain in the Kubrick's Shining-esque downstairs/outside region, lukewarm, flavorless beverages passed flatly from the staff to the patrons...  I could go on and on.  You know what?  I will.

This place has absolutely no redeeming qualities.  Like a fool, I went back repeatedly, hoping that my previous experience was just a fluke.  Maybe my impression was unfairly influenced by a lack of caffeine in my bloodstream up to the point of receiving my coffee beverage.  Maybe the drive up the sometimes congested Saratoga Ave. put me in a bad mood.  Nope.  It's not me, Mr. Rock Shoot.  It's YOU!  I point the finger at YOU!

    Gross.

This is a friendly place with very good food. It has a cabin feel to it and has good sandwiches.
