Another great standout from the Blue Ribbon crew! On my recent visit, I was very surprised with how affordable the sushi was. The omakase menu has a ton of food, great quality sushi for a prix fixe of $23 - miso soup, seaweed salad, a choice of entree (I had a mix of sushi and sashimi that was excellent) and then a green tea ice cream for dessert. Who knew you could eat such amazing sushi and get out of there without breaking the bank?

Tables looked like there were a bit of a wait during primetime but there were available spots at the sushi bar without any delay.

I was pleasantly surprised even though I hate this location because it's so out of the way.  The Brooklyn location was the only location that takes reservations (the Soho location does not) so our friends opted to come here because we had a party of 7.  They seated us in a separate area in the back and it was a nice and private "cabana" even though it was right next to the bathroom and kitchen.

Service was good, though it does get a little short staffed as the evening progresses and it gets more crowded (we were there from 6-8)

I had the Prefixe for 23 - a real good deal, the sushi/sashimi combo and it was quite generous - 5 pieces of sushi, 1 roll, and 7 pieces of sashimi - all VERY fresh.  The sushi combo that's also on the prefix though is not as fancy - my friend who ordered that kept complaining that mines was "bigger" than his - he had 7 pieces of sushi and 1 roll.  But otherwise, I was satisfied.  The prefix came with miso soup, choice of salad, the entree and a mini scoop of icecream.  Well worth it for 23.  My other friends ordered the special $135 platter, very fresh, it included a lobster roll, they prepared an entire fish (one of those mackerel size ones) and they fry up the bones with pieces of meat left over on them later in the dinner (after you are done with the platter) - cool!

We celebrated my friends birthday - they were very gracious about it, gave us plates, knife and even a candle!  Would come here for a birthday again! AND no extra fees for cake cutting/plates (unlike Sea, ugh!)

The food was good. Decent. Expensive and not very creative with their sauces.

I had some really great saki in a wooden square box that was pretty tasty and interesting to drink out of.

I didn't try the sashimi, but i did get a bento box and it was pretty tiny and mediocre.

Not what i'm used to coming from Southern California.

I love blue ribbon for its FRESH  sashimi pieces and delish sushi rolls. They also have a large sake menu.  The waiters are friendly and service is decent. Blue ribbon is definitely more expensive than your average corner sushi restaurant but they are far from average and the quality of food is worth every penny.

Blue Ribbon is a superb restaurant for its authentic Japanese cuisine, and excellent atmosphere. The fish is fresh and tastes as if it were caught minutes before you bit into its decadence. Any special occasion would be a perfect fit for this restaurant, but if just looking for a place to eat and talk, Blue Ribbon gives off an excellent vibe for just relaxing and chatting. To conclude, if looking for authentic, excellent Japanese dishes, and a divine atmosphere, Blue Ribbon would be a breathtaking restaurant/bar to visit.

Came over for Dine Out Brooklyn week and got the deal of a lifetime.  Seaweed, soup, entree, and ice cream all for $23!!!

The entree choices were salmon or chicken teriyaki, sushi meal, sashimi meal, sushi/sashimi combination, and some kind of fried rice.  I immediately went for the sushi/sashimi combination.

Boyfriend: What's in the sushi meal?
Waitress: Seven pieces of sushi and a roll.
Boyfriend: What about the sashimi?
Waitress: Ten pieces of sashimi.
Boyfriend: Hmmm.  And the sushi/sashimi combo?
Waitress: That's um, hmm, uhhh...  Seven pieces of sushi, a roll, and ten pieces of sashimi.
Boyfriend: Uh, what?

My poor bf was so confused that he didn't know what to do.  But seriously, with options like that why would you ever, ever, EVER not order the combo entree?

Anyways, the soup was good.  They offered the miso paste on the side so you could mix in as much as you wanted to.  The seaweed was good.  The sushi was, as a whole, unremarkable.  A few pieces really jumped out at me: the salmon, and the spicy tuna roll to name a couple.  But most of the pieces were disappointing, particularly the tuna, eel, and Spanish mackerel.  For the price, I couldn't complain, but if I were dishing out the actual $32.50, I'd throw a fit and grit my teeth while thinking about Yasuda's $23.50 sushi and sashimi combination...

The ice cream was yummy, and the service overall was very nice, but Blue Ribbon Sushi will remain a one-timer for me.

Yes, this is one of those rare blue moon experiences that leave a truly everlasting impression on the palette and beyond...a legitimate 5-star! My experience was of course heightened by the fact that it was my financee's birthday. The food, atmosphere (decor, music), and professional (and knowledgeable) servers culminated into an exceptional dining extravaganza....and celebration with the birthday.

We ordered a great deal of items, and the sure standouts included the yellowtail, amber jack, shrimp tempura, salmon, little neck clams, and king crab--all very fresh and out of this world delicious. Of course we had to save room for dessert, which was a wise decision because the green tea creme brulee was the best.

Blue Ribbon Sushi is undoubtedly among the best--if not the best--sushi in Brooklyn other than Zenkichi!

I am one of the biggest fans of the Blue Ribbon restaurants in the world.  Check out my other reviews and you'll see what I mean.  And I love sushi more than life so I figured Blue Ribbon + Sushi=Food Heaven.  My boyfriend and I were so disappointed : (  The food was interesting, and very fresh.  There were definitely things on this menu that were not commonly found at other sushi places, very fine dining, very chic.  But I felt like it was so overpriced for what the portions were and the menu is very hard to navigate.  We are very regular sushi goers and felt we were just stumped when ordering.  The atmosphere was nice, but honestly, afterwards I wanted to go next door to the real Blue Ribbon restaurant and eat dinner all over again.  Oh well, can't win em' all.

Some of the best sushi ever on one of the worst dates ever.  Stories like this make me glad I'm getting married and out of the dating scene.  Thank goodness for the sushi!

I heard many good things about Blue Ribbon.  I suggested this place for lunch to the date from hell, and since it was restaurant week, it was actually a pretty good deal.  We walked in and the decor was very earthy and zen-like relaxing.  Lots of wood everywhere.  We were seated and looked through the menu.

I'm ready to order two meals, when he confesses that he just ate (even though he knew we were going to eat somewhere).  Before I had a chance to really say anything, date from hell ordered one meal from the waitress and sent her away.  So here we were on Restaurant Week, for lunch, ready to split one meal.  Luckily I managed to call the waitress back and get an extra miso soup.  I had a bad feeling about this...

We had the miso soup, which was really good.  Then onto the sushi.  The pieces of fish were so melt in your mouth good.  It was fresh and high grade cuts.  I covet sushi like this and it honestly made the date not a total waste of time.  Sushi, you were my saviour that day.

Then we get the last course.  It was a green tea ice cream.  It came with one spoon.  I don't know why the staff didn't bring a second spoon over since we'd been sharing.  But this guy knew how much I loved ice cream and how it was one of my favorite foods ever.  So surely date from hell is going to ask the waitress for another spoon so he can have manners and share it with me.  NOPE.  The waitress doesn't come by, and he doesn't bother to get her attention.  I tried a couple of times to no avail.  Yay, crappy service!  So date from hell proceeds to eat the ice cream all alone.  Doesn't offer to share or anything.  Then he says, "oh, I'm not really an ice cream fan."

WHAT. THE. F*CK?

He ate that ice cream all by himself AND DIDN'T OFFER EVEN ONE BITE.  Needless to say there wasn't another date.

As for Blue Ribbon Sushi, 5 stars for the food, but minue one for the spotty service.  I'll be back.  And I will try this ice cream this time.

What's this?  Ox guts on rye?  Perhaps a piece of a duck stuffed inside a walrus and flown direct from Antarctica?  I say, no thank you, sir.

But before you're done, I'd love to pay $100 a plate for my-self and for my lady-friend.

Quite nice design, with some very nice sushi, for $50 you get a chefs plate a little touch of all. Pretty good Japanese sake. $65pp based on 3 with a wine, sakes and sparkling waters.

Gr8 design even with the loud environment [sake, must be] you still have a lil privacy. The lighting is in harmony with the exposed ceiling beams. I agree with other reviews, the service isn't at price level.

Stop serving Sake in nice wood boxes, we're not a snakes, we can't open our mouths that big, and we don't want to get wet. Its not practical. You can bring it just for the picture and then give it in a 'cup'.

I'm not going to lie. If you want good sushi, go here.

The waitstaff rocks. The atmosphere is perfect. Go on an "off" night. Sunday nights are great, for example. Not Friday nights.

Their food is so fresh and amazingly well done and cut. Totally amazing. If you are thinking .. "I could really go for some good sushi today" .. go here.

This place is nice. Maybe a little too nice for me to really appreciate. Both the side salad and the unagi avocado that I ordered were tiny for a price that I didn't not enjoy.

I will say that the food was delicious, the waitress was very attentive w/ tea and they have a huge list of sake, if that's what you're into. I don't love sake so I went w/ one of their japanese beers and it was just great.

I probably wouldn't go here again unless on a date or special event dinner because it is so expensive. But if that's not a factor for you, I'm single.

I went for Dine In Brooklyn Week (which btw, they are extending throughout April).  It was a 45 minute wait on a Friday night at 8pm - not bad. We sat at the bar, which I recommend. I was disappointed with the service but the food was delicious. I got the sushi/sashimi combo and when I politely requested that mackerel not be served to me, the waitress snapped back, "No substitutions!"  I sincerely didn't see it on the menu, but when she pointed it out with her pen, I was fine with it. It seemed like a bit of an overreaction on her part. Anywhoo, the servings were smaller than I'm used to but it was all so good and I was STUFFED by the end of the meal. I liked that they serve the miso soup with the miso paste on the side.

Went in on Dine out Brooklyn Week, and did the pre-fix. Sort of lame. The portions were small, but my teriyaki chicken was really good. They give you a hand sharpened knife to cut the chicken off of the bone...I really liked that! The service was mediocre, and not at the menu price level. it took a while for a server to show up. He was nice but rushed us to order, and my friends japanese stout in a 12oz. bottle was $8! Good selection of saki, including one packaged especially for them, and I liked the atmosphere. The menu seemed a bit pricey but the sushi seemed really fresh, and beautiful colors.

One of the best sushi places in Brooklyn.  Went there last night with a few friends and had the Blue Ribbon platter.  Also ordered a couple pieces of sweet shrimp and chutoro.  All of the fish were super fresh, with the chutoro being exceptionally delicious.  Though the pieces are not as big as some places, the freshness of the fish made up for it.  They have a good selection of sake also.  Prices were a little on the expensive side, but for higher quality sushi, it's well worth it.

Pretty good stuff, even by Californian standards. I don't know if I got what I paid for quantity wise in the deluxe sushi platter, but it definitely was tasty.

The atmosphere, I guess, is what commands the premium. Cute. But it's not one of those places I'd go to do sake bombs...they seem to frown upon that.

The decor was beautiful which presented itself in an all wood interior giving the feel of an authentic japanese sushi bar.

The service was on par but the hospitality was really non existent. The choices on the menu are quite extensive with a nice selection of 8-12 specials for the day.

Overall some of the sushi ordered tasted fantastic, while others really lacked in taste. Many of our roles included one or two new and unique ingredients which shed a new light on old favorites.

My rating sums up my feelings of this establishment. It was good, unique sushi. Presentation of the food itself was beautiful. It was not worth the price ($120 for 3 drinks, 3 rolls, and 1 piece of sashimi)

There are plenty of other choices for amazing quality sushi at better prices with better hospitality. Although, I don't think they'll come close to the decor. This place is worth checking out, but lacking what's needed to become a favorite in my book.

Hands down best place to dine in Park Slope.  Conveniently the best place to get sushi as well.

Quality, selection, and presentation is as staggering as the price.  But it's a meal to remember.  I'm deducting some points for the casual service given the expense of the place but even so it's still a five-star location and a dining experience Park Slope needs more of.

God, I'm drunk.  Not "now" but I was the last time I visited Blue Ribbon.  I had been waiting for my friend Lisa to arrive so I had a drink in their bar next door.  She runs a multimedia company and she's super-busy so I figured she'd be late, but twenty minutes turned into two hours and by the time she arrived I was blasted.  I vaguely remember paying my drink tab (around $80) and walking next door to the restaurant.

We had just been seated and we were beginning to peruse the menu when - "OMG, Jennifer Connelly just walked right by me and sat in the next booth!"  Wow, she's really thin.  Too thin.  She looks cranky.  I think she must be cranky because she doesn't eat enough.  Seriously, will someone feed Jennifer Connelly?

Her pretty-boy Brit husband obviously isn't going to do it.  C'mon Paul, order some lobster!  She isn't really going to just eat that bowl of soup and some seaweed salad is she?

Oh wait - the owner is talking to her.  Maybe he's telling her he will see to it that she eats at least 300 calories before he'll let her shuffle weakly out of the restaurant.  No, I think he just was making small talk.  Oh he ordered something nice for the Connelly kids.  That's nice.

I sort of remember eating something.  I think it was good.  I remember that I liked it but I probably could have eaten the chopsticks at that point and thought that they were delicious.

Note to self:

Return to Blue Ribbon Sushi and eat before drinking.  The atmosphere is great and the food is great (or so I'm told).  And Jennifer Connelly apparently likes it.

Probably one of the best Sushi joints in the area.  I'm very particular about my sushi...hello, its raw fish so I don't want some smelly day old fish near these tastbuds at those crappier places.  Again, the fish is fresh and the service is good.  Never had a  problem with seating on a weekend, but maybe I subconciously get there earlier to avoid the crowds.

One thing I noticed, there Wasabi is the good stuff.  Not that generic out of the tube store bought brand.

Definitely a Fav. ....god I love park slope!

I really wanted to dislike this place. I really wanted it to be unimpressive, overpriced sushi that you wait way too long for. I wanted to be able to say I knew it was going to be overpriced and silly. I was so wrong. I'm sorry I doubted you, Blue Ribbon.

Came here for Restaurant Week with friends. The menu was super limited, but i got the sushi-sashimi combo. Holy moly. The hijiki salad was awesome, and the add-miso-as-you-like soup was a neat idea! I like lots of miso in my soup, but a lot of people don't, so kudos. The sushi and sashimi were just absolutely amazing...and it was a huge amount of food, too. So happy was my tummy. The green tea ice cream actually tasted like tea, not like sweet sillyness. Not that there's anything wrong with sweet sillyness.

So yes, awesome. It's true. Expensive but awesome. When I find him, my sugar daddy is going to take me here.

Also, Michael Rappaport was here. I don't know who he is, but my friends did, and found it very exciting, so I guess you should too.

Went there for dinner last night, and I loved it.  We had the Blue Ribbon Ginjo...love it...just look for the hint of pear.  The bottle had a blue ribbon label, I wonder if it was specially made for them?  I prefer my sushi to have a greater fish to rice ratio (or at least equal) but still mmM tasty.  The surf and turf was delicious and a huge portion (figure 3 people at least).  We were warned about the 40minute wait time for the lobster and huge steak, cooked perfectly so its important not to rush.  Great ingredients with fancy trimmings.  Expect to pay minimum $50 for a half a wine bottle size of sake.   If you can afford it, go for it.  The service was great and I had a great evening.

I came to Blue Ribbon Sushi for Dine In Brooklyn (Brooklyn's Restaurant Week)! My friends and I had the sushi and sashimi entree they were offering.

First thing worth noting: two kinds of seaweed salad! Choose from the black kind and the green kind! (Ask your friendly waiter -- I can't remember the Japanese names for the two!)

Second thing worth noting: MAKE YOUR OWN MISO. So, you get miso soup. It has tofu and scallions and seaweed in it... but the broth is clear! Along side of the soup comes a dish of miso paste. Add a little of it or all of it, to you own specifications! (I added it all! I apparently like it miso-y). This added an element of fun to my meal.

Third thing worth noting: AMAZING spicy tuna roll (s.t.r.). I am a real s.t.r. aficionado. It is usually my staple roll. But this was a particularly spectacular s.t.r.!

Fourth thing worth noting: all of the fish was fresh and great! (One fish was particularly fishy, and I did not care for it, but I believe that to be more the nature of that fish instead of it not being fresh.)

Overall, the atmosphere is great, and the waitstaff was so helpful and friendly. The waiter took the time to explain things when we had questions, and helped us select the right meal for us (without being annoying). Tea and water refills were a-plenty.

I've been to the one in the city and wanted to try this one since it's closer to me.  First upon entering we were greeted by the friendly hostess. Wait wasn't that long (15 min.) for 2 people considering it was a Saturday prime time dinner night.  I wanted to try something different so I ordered Toshi's Special which was the Chef's omakase. The omakase was the chef's tastings assortment of the day. Upon biting into the first piece, I was already in Heaven! The toro (fatty tuna) melted in my mouth. Everything tasted fresh. The presentation was nice too! As per the previous review, it was my first time having uni. All I can say is, it's unique. I don't think I've had anything similar to this.

The loved us so much that she gave us some free mango and pear sorbet. They were delicious!

I am definitely going back here again!

Visited Blue Ribbon Sushi at 8:15 PM Saturday for Brooklyn's Restaurant Week.  We were quoted a 45 minute wait that ended up being an hour and a half.  I would have accepted this graciously had the food been worth it, but I'm not even sure I'd eat this stuff for free.

I had the sashimi prix fixe while my dining companion had the sushi/sashimi combination prix fixe.

The waitress botched up the order so it took an additional 20 minutes for my dish to arrive.  I watched it sit on the sushi counter reaching room temperature and waited helplessly for the waitress to notice.  I wasn't even able to flag her down, short-staffed as they were.  The final indignity:  my request for a dry white wine yielded sweet, tart nastiness.  *Sigh*

Sushi/sashimi combo seemed like the better value of the two.  Ordering the sashimi alone only gets you 2 or 3 extra pieces of salmon and tuna.

4-stars:

*  Salmon
No complaints of freshness here.  The least disappointing cut of fish.

3-stars:

*  Yellowtail
Tasted fresh enough in flavor but was on the verge of filleting apart.  Ominous.

*  Hijiki Salad
The saltier seaweed salad.  A little wilty and a little smoky.

*  Wakame Salad
The sweeter, sesame oily seaweed salad.  Firm with a bit of crunch.

1-stars:

*  Tuna
Looked okay but tasted like bleach.  Moreover, the fish was cut along the grain and was stringy to eat.

*  Snapper
Looked floppy and worn.  Taste was wholly unmemorable.

*  Some other fish served skin-on.  Mackeral perhaps?
Firm enough but without flavor.

food:  2
value:  1 (I've had better cuts of fish for the same price elsewhere.)
service:  1  (Friendly but dismal.  1 star for trying.)
ambience:  3  (Loud)
craveability:  0  (There is nothing I'd come back for.)

Dear Blue Ribbon,

I love you even more than I did last week, because Friday night you were serving up freshly killed uni, a yellow quivering mass, right on top of the spiny carcass. I didn't dare eat it, but watching the preparation made my heart skip (and inspired me to order one little uni from the a la carte menu).

Fresh fish aside, be sure to check out the mixed seaweed salad and the wild mushroom miso and the eggplant with miso special appetizer -- all very good.

Food Quality:
The sushi was excellent. However, the sushi rolls were extremely small for the premium price. They definitely have the portion control police here. However, that does not negate the fact that it was fresh and tasty. They have the best spicy tuna rolls in Brooklyn (very small portions). In addition, if you enjoy eel, this is the place to visit. My partner and I had 4 rolls, one glass of wine, and one glass of champagne for $62, excluding tip.

Service:
I would have rated this restaurant 4-stars, but there seems to be a challenge with their water service. It is basic service 101 to have water delivered within 1 minute of seating. I had to ask for water after our cocktails were delivered. When you pay for a premium dining service, all the basics should be covered without your prompting. Service was average at best. It took a while for the server to focus on our table and the restaurant was not busy.

I love everything about this place--the wooden decor, the eager to please hosts and servers, the wine list, fantastic appetizers, and the sushi itself.  This is great date place. My only complaint is that if you get either of the two real kinds of crab in a California roll, they chop it up and mix it with mayonaise like deli seafood salad.  For me, that ruins the experience of real crab.

Yes! Go here or even get take out if you live close.

The house salad is huge and pre-dressed and has avocado in it and is delicious and so big and filling! I love the house cured pickled octopus. I love the fried oyster roll. And they will make you a ume-shiso roll if you ask. I also love their box sushi, especially the mushroom one. Their salmon is always so good. They usually have some great tuna or other on hand (check the specials menu). I love to get a couple of pieces of uni, too.

But it's not just the food that's great! I love the atmosphere here, the wood ceiling that makes it look like you are inside a boat. They are kid-friendly with a kids section on their menu. Sometimes they give you a free desert! I got a green tea creme brullet last time I was there! Good stuff!

YES!  The premium sushi here is some of the best available in Brooklyn!   I went during restaurant week in order to sample a menu that I otherwise would be unwilling to afford.  The sashimi was fresh, buttery and each type had a distinct flavor.  I could have had at least ten more pieces.  The green tea ice cream was quite tasty as well.

The soup was luke warm at best; something that gets me more peeved than a retirement home resident.   Also a 12oz bottle of imported Japanese beer was $8...what!  I guess I'll have to learn more about sake so I can select one next time.

Overall the sushi here deserves 5 stars.  The whole however, was not executed with the same perfection.

I LOVE this place!  The sushi is exquisite. Amazing aphrodisiac for a date night. The fish literally melts in your mouth, and you'll want to stay in the chill environment the whole evening long...don't forget to end your sumptuous meal with the green tea creme brulee.

There's much hype surrounding Blue Ribbon Sushi, and I don't get it.  I've been there 4 times, and I'm never impressed.

It's not that the food isn't good.  The apps are great, the rock shrimp tempura with a spicy mayo was memorable, but for the portion, I could have had 3.

Then, the sushi.  I had the omakase one time.  I don't like that the sushi comes in thick one inch blocks.  Instead of melting in your mouth, you must chew.  And who likes to chew on raw fish?

The sake comes in authentic wooden boxes, and that's pretty cool.

It's not that Blue Ribbon Sushi is a bad restaurant - it's earned its reputation for a reason.  But if I'm going to have sushi, I would rather go somewhere more authentic, and less expensive.
