We visit Duck once a year to visit friends and for the last  three years they have maintained the high level of consistency and quality we have come to expect.  Excellently prepared seafood and meats.

Hint...Try the double bone French Pork Chop !

My husband heard lots of good things about this place, so we thought we would kick off our long weekend on the outerbanks here.

Service and food were good.  I ordered a salad for an appetizer and the meatloaf for my main.  I ate about half of my meatloaf and brought the rest back to my hotel for later.  I have to say the meatloaf was much better later on.

Overall this was a good restaurant.

I had a very nice lunch at Blue Point while in town for the OBX marathon. Blue Point has the reputation of being among the best restaurants on the Outer Banks and it did to dissapoint. What is great is the lunch menu is similar to the dinner menu, has generous portions but is about half the price. I started with a tomato curry bisque which was tasty and then opted for the fried catfish over a bed of jambayla with cornbread. I am used to catfish and cornbread both having a dry texture, but at Blue Point they are actually moist and the flavor quite good.

Blue Point has a few beers on tap and specialty cocktails and the wine is very reasonably priced. Our server was attentive and professional, but not the most personable server we have had. One of the nicest aspects of Blue Point is the awesome view of the sound, the beautiful scenery results in a peaceful and romantic ambiance. I considered awarding five stars to Blue Point, but had high expectations and while the food was really good, it was not outstanding. I definitely will come back next time I am in town; if the food is just a smidgeon better I will have to revise my rating upwards. Blue Point is worth a visit if you are on the Outer Banks.

In an area filled with beach restaurants catering to tourists who will probably never return, Blue Point stands out as a restaurant which is really good.  They have a beautiful view of the sound, are artfully decorated while still casual and the food... the food would go over well in downtown DC or Manhattan.  We enjoyed dinner so much we went back for lunch the next day.  All four entrees were creative and oh so delicious!  If you go no place else, go to Blue Point.

My boyfriend and I decided to try this place tonight, and we were just about the first people there, so we were seated immediately. We were given the option of sitting at the bar or at a table, the implication being you could also order off the bar menu (whatever that is) if you sat in the bar. We opted for a table.

I'll say this: they do not rush you in and out here. Ample time was given between drink orders and perusing the menu, to clearing, to dessert. Our dinner was about an hour and a half as a result. (Not that this is a bad thing; just an observation.) I also got to watch the sunset (my boyfriend sat facing away; on the other hand, he was blocking the sun to keep it out of my eyes a good portion of dinner).

I ordered the pork chop (which was in bone and huge), and my boyfriend got the catch of the day, seared mahi mahi. Very flavorful. For dessert we had apple cobbler--yum. Luckily, they were able to give us the a la mode ice cream in a separate dish (food allergy), which was appreciated.

We enjoyed our meal quite a bit. Nice ambiance and the view can't be beat. We'll definitely eat here again.

First found this place in 1994.  It's expanded in size, updated it's decor, and constantly enhanced its service; it has remained the top notch restaurant in Duck.  Reservations are a must - as soon as you have any idea when you might be going.  Food is impeccable, service is awesome. sunsets are gorgeous. Standard menu offerings, while outstanding, are typically surpassed by the specials.  We go every chance we get (4 times in 2011).

My wife and I have been dining at the blue point for 18 years.  I truly have never had a bad meal.  It is a must stop on every trip with take to the OBX.  Sam, one of the owners and original chef, has kept the restaurant to its Carolina/Tidewater roots.  The crab cakes are the best i have had.   The BBQ sandwich at lunch is awesome too.  The salads are creative and refreshing, especially the melon, blue cheese and arugala one.  We actually got the recipe for that one.  Dessert rocks too.  Get the cobbler or Key Lime pie (both are my favorites).  All the ingredients are fresh and most are local.

We were devasted to hear about the damage at the Blue Point from Hurricane Irene.  The soundside in Duck got hammered.  But we were thrilled to get an email from the Blue Point two weeks later saying they were open for business.

Make a dinner reservation through their on-line service (no Opentable) in advance for the summer season.  There are no reservations for lunch so I would either show when it opens or 30 minutes before it closes down the lunch service.

The food was really good. My prize winning meatloaf was complimented by garlic mashed potatoes and was a perfect match. My wife had the flounder and said it was cooked well but needed just a little something more. Great view of the sound. Not too expensive for lunch. Would finely recommend.

I had low hopes for dining options on my first vacation to the Outer Banks.  What a pleasant surprise to discover the superb Blue Point Bar & Grill, which ranks among my best dining experiences ever.

Dinner was flawless from start to finish -- even the mixed drinks (Patron Sunset and Dark & Stormy) were perfect.  My wife and I shared a beet and arugula salad -- all ingredients were fresh and delectable (and we both previously detested beets).  Our appetizers were the hoisin-glazed ribs and shrimp with udon noodles.  Both dishes were cooked perfectly -- the ribs were especially remarkable.

I had the beef tenderloin.  Buttery, juicy, perfectly seasoned -- it was one of the best pieces of beef I've ever had, making me question my considerably higher expenditures at other top steakhouses.  My wife had the pasta with shrimp, sausage, and cream sauce -- not as heavenly as my dish, but still very good.

Desserts are the Achilles' heel of many restaurants, but that was far from the case at Blue Point.  My dark chocolate brownie generated a massive flood of endorphins.  My wife's biscuit with rhubarb and blueberries was also very delicious.  Both dishes included ice creams made with buttermilk, resulting in the smoothest ice cream either of us have ever had.  Even the coffee was fantastic.

Our server was excellent -- very friendly and knowledgeable about the menu offerings.  The ambiance and decor initially struck me as somewhat casual for a fine-dining establishment, but I quickly grew to enjoy my surroundings.  (And who wants to eat at a stuffy restaurant during a beach vacation, anyway?)  Our table also had a perfect view of the sunset over the sound.

Though Blue Point isn't inexpensive by conventional standards, I still consider it to be a great value given the quality of the food and service.  I've paid far more for equal or lesser fare at various Top Chef / Iron Chef / Michelin-starred restaurants around the country.  Blue Point is a true gem of the Outer Banks, and a must-visit for any food lovers visiting OBX.

This is the place where I would have my last meal. I'm serious. I love this place and it is a must-do every time I am in the OBX.
Set at the end of the Waterfront Shoppes in Duck, it's open for lunch and dinner, with views of the sound. I usually go at lunch. The salads are fresh and seasonal, desserts are creative (and DIVINE--spins on the classics, like a key lime pie slice in a chef's ring, instead of the usual pie slice, with a gorgeous raspberry sauce), and the crab cake sandwich is bliss on a bun. The service is top-notch and the relaxed atmosphere is perfect for relaxing and unwinding.

Had lunch here twice a few weeks ago.
The pulled pork sandwich is very good.

The lunch menu is limited in choices, however it is very reasonably priced.
The dinner menu is on the expensive side.

The first time service was excellent, the second time meh. Our server happened to be facilitating a group of 18 people. For the life of me I have no idea why the management thinks it is possible for a single server to take care of 18 people at once plus multiple other tables.

I will be back next summer for sure.

Top-notch service from Elaine here. She was like a Swiss Watch -- never missed a tick. She brought this blue cheese olive martini to my father in law that was so full it was convex on top and she did not spill it. Impressive.

The food is also delicious. Well balanced and bursting with flavor. There's a sweet deal, three-course menu for $33.00. The pork and the trout are equally delicious, so you can't go wrong by choosing either one. For desserts, though, I would pick the spice cake over the chocolate cake. The chocolate cake is really, really rich, and the flavor of it didn't quite go with the rest of the bbq-inspired meal.

Atmosphere is gorgeous and refined, but completely relaxed all at the same time.

Top gourmet place to eat in Duck!  Gorgeous restaurant, ever changing menu with lots of local flavoring & flair! Locally owned. Friendly & courteous staff.  A little high on the prices (I only eat here when I can afford to) but if you are on vacation, you should definitely treat yourself, you won't be disappointed!

I was there this past weekend with three other girls. Our food took an hour to come out, during which time our waiter did not check up on us and avoided eye contact. Later when we were paying the check we asked to speak to the manager about the tardiness of our meal and she was very rude rather than apologetic. She basically said "So what." This isn't exactly the reaction you expect after spending about $300 on the meal and a bottle of higher end wine.

I'm sorry, but your food isn't good enough to make up for poor treatment coupled with a high price-tag. I don't think I'll be back there.

Our first trip to the Outer Banks. Spend a week on Martha's Vineyard every summer. Worried restaurants on Outer Banks wouldn't stack up. After eating at Blue Point last night, the answer is undoubtedly . . . YES, they do stack up.

Great decor, nice but not stuffy, and being right on the water is a big plus obviously. Fun crowd, energy/noise level just right with Classic R&B playing in the background. Great wine/beer list ready for exploring.

For starters, try the she-crab soup, simply epic if you like Old Bay. Baby wedge also a nice choice.

Entrees all A++ especially swordfish, catfish, crab cakes. All prepared to perfection with a nice array of accompaniments. Also one diner in our party made the bold but wise choice of ordering a side of mac and three cheese. Ridiculously delicious.

Group shared peach cobbler and southern pecan pie for dessert. Totally worth it. Don't skip dessert here!

Service was excellent. Our waiter Bruce was 100% on top of his game and also full of local insights.

Will be returning to the Outer Banks, and Blue Point Bar & Grill next summer.

OMG...they best restaurant in the Outer Banks!!!! My boyfriend and I ate here last week  Friday on our last day in the Outer Banks. And like the saying goes, Save The Best For Last!!!

I had started researching alot of restaurants before we left and all i read were great things about Blue Point Bar and Grill so of course I had to try this place out for myself.

All i can say is while it is expensive for an Outer Banks restaurant, it was soooooooooooooooooo and i mean sooooooooooo worth it. I ordered the trout and my boyfriend ordered the catfish with Zucchini slaw and crab meat, and his dish was the best. Dont get me wrong, i enjoyed the trout very much but it was something about that catfish that made u want to "slap you mama"!!

Now usually I dont order dessert at any restaurant but when I saw the Southern Pecan Pie with Bourbon Ice Cream, how could i resist? And i'm so glad i ordered it because it was the best dessert i have ever had....sshhhh, dont tell my mom..LOL!! But really there is something sinfully good about that dessert and my stomach hurt so much from being full but i was determined to finish every crumb. So worth it!!!

I will be back to this restaurant is Oct for my birthday!!!

Best meal in the Outer Banks.  There really wasn't a close second.

Wife was drinking the "fruit cocktail" and I thoroughly enjoyed the "patron sunset".

Food began with a small amuse bouche of herb and cheese on a Breton cracker.  Nice.

Wife's appetizer was salad with mozzarella, the best tomatoes, and pignoli nuts.  Perfectly dressed!  Outstanding.

My appetizer was grilled shrimp with Virginia ham and pineapple.  The shrimp tasted so fresh and the ham and pineapple combo worked well for me.

Wife's entree was steak and potatoes with perfect mushrooms.  I am not doing this dish any justice in my description.  She loved it!!!

My entree was a sautee of salmon and crabmeat over spoonbread.  Holy cow.  An amazing trio.  I will be thinking about this dish for many weeks to come.

Dessert was a brownie for her and a peach and blueberry cobbler with buttermilk ice cream for me.

Do not miss going here if you are near Duck!

Another top-notch restaurant on the Outer Banks.  I'm noted in some other reviews that I've been vacationing on the Outer Banks for 29 years (since I was 6 months old).  There is a shortage of really amazing restaurants on the Outer Banks, but this is one of the truly special ones.

This restaurant is nestled on the water, located in a small shopping strip in Duck.  As I said, amazing restaurants are hard to come by on the Outer Banks but even more rare in the isolated community of Duck; definitely get a reservation far in advance.  During the summer things can book up 2-3 weeks in advance meaning I end up having a lot of lunches at Blue Point.

Either way, lunch or dinner, you won't be disappointed by Blue Point.  As their website notes, they are also high on quality wines so be sure to sample some of their offerings.

Absolutely oustanding. Decor, food, and service got top marks from us, and we're excessively picky people. Elegant without being prissy, the food was creative and delicious. As Carla on Top Chef says, you can really taste the love. Servers are upbeat and engaged, and decor and atmosphere were stylish and tasteful. Worth every penny.

A perfect end to a quick weekend getaway. Fortunately OBX wasn't busy as we were able to slip in for a birthday celebration dinner and enjoyed views of the water.

Our server's unsolicited recommendation validated our appetizer choice for the seared sea scallops. The truffle vinaigrette perfectly balanced the savory pork belly cubes and piquant spring onions. The two scallops were perfectly prepared.

My disappointment that they were not serving the softshell crab atop creamy grits I spied in a menu magazine was short lived. The beef tenderloin with fingerling potatoes + spring mushrooms and sauteed spinach was pure bliss. The steak knife wasn't necessary for the buttery rich medium rare filet.

The potatoes were prepared whole and tossed in a truffle creme fraiche and chives which is the only way I want my baked potatoes prepared from now on.

My boyfriend went with the swordfish steak prepared with a fruit salsa atop a bed of cous cous. Other than the empty plate he left I have no review as swordfish ain't my thing.

When it's your birthday you can get however many desserts you want, right? Well we chose two. The southern pecan pie (tart) was the best. Our runner up choice Strawberry Rhubarb Cobbler was light and refreshing but wayyyy too much (definitely enough for two or four to enjoy). The cobbler was not prepared as you might expect as it had crunchy bits in the fruit mix with a lemon ice cream.

Another plus - half bottles of wine in addition to by the glass options.

Big fan of the establishment. Next time I'll make reservations in advance to enjoy views of the water in daylight.

While I recognize that everyone says the food is good (and I believe it), I feel that the service you receive at a restaurant is equally as important.  In the case of Blue Point,  the service here was so bad that we never got a chance to order a drink, let alone try the food.  We stood (and were noticed by the bartender) at the bar for ten minutes without so much as a drink menu.  When I interrupted the bartender to ask for one she rolled her eyes (but shoved a menu our way).  By the time we began to order our drinks, we were fetched for our table.  I asked the woman who took us back if she was the manager, and when she said yes, I informed her of the poor service we received at the bar. Her response was so light hearted it was as if i had commented on the weather.  (we were quite frustrated at this point).  When we sat down and considered  for a split second what had just happened, we walked out.

This is a lovely spot in Duck on the Outer Banks.  The location on the Sound offers terrific views of the water.  There are plenty of shops to visit along the boardwalk, but the highlight is certainly Blue Point.

This is a wonderful restaurant for special occasions and just a lovely meal with family.  It is definitely worth a visit for locals and summer folks.  The meatloaf is generally quite good.  The crab cakes are reliably good.  The primary differentiation is that this is American fare updated with a twist.  A Key Lime Pie is refreshed both in flavor and presentation.

    I certainly can recommend it.

Our return 6 months later was just as good.  This really deserves the title of Best Restaurant on the OBX.

Perfectly cooked short rib appetizer, impossibly tender filet, solid baked catfish.  The wine list shines with many affordable options in the $20-40/bottle range.  It may not be a huge list but what's there is great.  Any restaurant that carries D'Arenberg wines get a bit of a bonus in my book, too!

The service shines as brightly as the food.  Southern hospitality in a casual, yet elegant environment.

P.S. Make reservations!  We made them a month in advance and still had to wait a few minutes.

Every year, we kick off our OBX trip here. It's by far the best option on the OBX, but beyond that, it would be delish if you plopped it somewhere with more competition. The food is consistently awesome, we love the staff, and we're always very happy campers when we leave. Love the new bar they put out on the sound this year, sadly it was a million degrees when we arrived and actually to hot to sit outside.

Just be warned, you have to call many weeks in advance in the summer.

PS. Dessert might just be the best part of the meal!

Finding a good restaurant in the Outer Banks is difficult; finding a great one takes talent. The Blue Point is one of the best restaurants we've ever patronized. From the outside bar to the service to the wine selection to the food, it was an A+ evening all around. I had the catfish; the little lady had the pork chop.  It was an evening we won't soon forget.

Note: Definitely get reservations. The bartender said during busy season, reservations are three weeks out. We were there on the first weekend of off-season and had to make reservs a day out.

Excellent!  Just had lunch here today,  and couldn't be more pleased.  We had a gazpacho soup for an appy (awesome),  my entree was a crab cake, served on a kaiser roll with some delicious potato salad with a fresh dill dressing. My fiancee had a special,  Mahi-Mahi over some grilled veggies in an excellent dressing. This was also an excellent choice,  the fish perfectly crusted and flavorful.  We finished with a pecan pie (her),  and a Creme brûlée (me).  Highly recommended!

Ate here with my wife while we were on vacation last week.  The food and atmosphere were both excellent, I actually thought the photos we looked at online were deceiving as they made the interior almost look like a diner, when in reality it is a low lit well decorated restaurant with a style befitting its food.

I got the beef tenderloin which was perfectly cooked and came with some of the best potatoes/mushrooms I've ever had.  My wife had catfish on a bed of zucchini slaw and crab meat which she claims was her favorite meal of the entire vacation.  Finally we had a cobbler for dessert which we both thoroughly enjoyed.

The wait staff was extremely friendly and prompt, and while it was fairly expensive we felt the food reflected the price.  The only negative thing I could say about the Blue Point is that as it is on the bay side, as we walked in there was a fairly bad odor coming from the bay so I'm not sure how eating outside would've gone.

Wow, what a huge disappointment! My friends made this place out to be a "must try" while vacationing in Kill Devil Hills, based on their experiences a few years ago.   I wish we would have never made the journey out to Duck.  Should have confirmed the place on trip advisor as the one star reviews there are what we experienced.  The food was just ok, thinking the kitchen staff was in the weeds as it took quite some time to receive our main dishes.  The manager on duty was rude after we complained about the one hour wait for our entrees.  She stated they plan 20 minutes between courses, it would have been wonderful for the waiter to inform of us this, but he made quite the effort to avoid our table or make any form of eye contact at all.  It became almost comical if we were not starving and ready to eat.  We wanted a nice night out to celebrate finishing a race and all we received were overpriced meals and crappy service.  What happened to this place?
Save your time and money and try The Pearl, wish we would have known about this little jewel earlier.  Heard it is giving Blue Point a run for its money and it is so true.

Quite simply the best meal I had the pleasure of eating while vacationing in the Outer Banks.

We waited about an hour before being seated, but that was no matter because there are plenty of cool (if touristy) shops near here.  Once seated, an amuse bouche of mashed chick peas with citrus & herbs on a water cracker was brought to the table.  A refreshing bite with excellent texture.

Our appetizer - Pork belly over blue cheese cole slaw & green tomatoes.  Fatty, well seasoned pork matches perfectly with the creamy slaw & the sour tomatoes.

Soup course: She-crab soup - a really mildly fishy soup with notes of sherry & chili pepper.  Quite a delicious version of a soup that did not impress me in previous versions.

Dinner: A perfectly cooked tuna steak over white beans & chorizo and topped with a cooked cabbage.  All of the components married perfectly - the sweet, succulent tuna, the salty & spicy chorizo, the firm texture of the white beans, and the tomato broth that brought it all together.  A perfectly delicious entree.

I also had a chance to try the fried catfish & crab cakes.  Both were very good as well.

Dessert: Pecan pie with bourbon ice cream and Key Lime Pie.  While neither dessert can be considered light, both were easily devoured after our large meal.  Pecan pie was delightfully sweet with slight bitter balance given by bourbon ice cream.  The Key Lime pie was everything it should be - tart, sweet, & creamy on an excellent cookie like graham crust.

A truly perfect meal.  A must visit if you are ever in the Outer Banks.

Randomly picked Blue Point for lunch.  What a find!  It's tucked back in the corner of a small shopping center on the bay side.

The shrimp and grits were awesome!  My husband had the burger and liked it.  Yummy fries too!

The decor, wait staff and view of the bay were all great as well.  I would love to go back and try something else.

Last spring and summer we went to the Blue Point in Duck. A first class restaurant all the way. Great service, good food and excellent views however I would like to see more variety on the menu. The place is in the waterfront shops in Duck and you should look for that rather than the restaurant which is hard to see from the road. Here, you need reservations, even during the off-season. Blue Point is a very long building, so every table has a view of the sound. Consider making a late reservation in the summer and enjoying a spectacular sunset.

Yeah, it's really that good.  Best restaurant in the OBX.  Excellent food, wonderful service and the kitchen is visible from the restaurant, which I think is always a good sign.  If you like crab, they have great crab cakes, but I would recommend the crab and salmon saute - it was to die for!  The beef tenderloin was equally amazing and the warm chocolate hazelnut torte with coffee ice cream was the perfect (decadent!) ending to our meal.

Don't worry about getting too dressy.  I saw a wide array of attire - some were in jeans or shorts and others slightly dressier but overall a casual atmosphere to have the best dinner you can get on the beach.

Awesome. Start to finish, it was awesome.

    Well, the dinner was.

Lunch was served by the B team, but it was still damn tasty (If they have the BLT special on the menu when you're there for lunch, get it.)

But back to dinner. It really was great from soup to nuts. Our server was friendly, knowledgeable, and an all-around pro who made our meal enjoyable and memorable. She admitted she didn't know much about beer (she was aces with the wine, though), and brought samples to try when some of us had beer questions.

Food: I had my heart set on the catfish and should have gone with that (I sampled from other's plates who were wise enough to order it). Instead, I asked our server what her favorite dish on the menu was and she recommended the sauteed crab and smoked salmon over corn spoonbread. It wasn't bad, but not what I was in the mood for. The spoonbread was like polenta, so the texture of the dish, overall, was kind of all the same and got to be a bit much for me about a third of the way through. All of which was certainly not her fault. My husband had the porck chop which was outstanding. If you get the caesar salad to start, get it with anchovies. I'm not usually a fan, but they serve it with white anchovies here and they compliment the dressing unbelievably well. Without them, I found the salad a touch on the bland side.
I got one of their specials for dessert - peaches over pound cake in a honey sauce. All of the components were quite tasty, though I think it needed some more sauce (or something) to really tie it all together.

Everyone was happy and satisfied with their meals, truly not a complaint in the bunch except for my minor issues.

However, the highlight of the evening was when the 8 of us sat chatting over our desserts and I noticed that the couple at the table next to us were served what looked like mac & cheese. I had been trying to scratch my mac & cheese itch for a few days now, and I hadn't seen it on the menu. So I leaned over and asked them about it. It turns out that they've been going there for 10 years and the mac & cheese used to be on the menu - but the chef will, for them, do it by request. From what they and the server said, they won't always do it for anyone, and may just need enough people to ask about it in order to bring it back.
So when you go, ask for it. They may not do it for you, but after a while, who knows. Please ask. Because that mac and cheese was bangin.

    Oh, how do I know?

Because these lovely strangers were kind enough to take my jolly joking "Here, just put some on my plate." seriously, and they insisted I try their holy coveted mac & cheese.  Southern hospitality at its finest.

I was excited due to reviews but when I got there and looked at lunch menu- it was limited and didn't have anything I really wanted. Luckily my mother in law decided for everyone we would eat there. Ended up the had two great specials - flounder with couscous which was best i ever have eaten & a chicken salad that my sister in law said was awesome.  The only thing I will say is its a bit pricey for kids menu at 7.50$.  It had bowl of pasta that would not have been enough for my 2 yr old, cheese quesidilla ( seemed best option) & hamburger (didn't see this one)   However for adults- worth a stop.
