Review from Elaine N.
San Francisco, CA
I love the service and the quality of the food at Blue Nami - Orangevale
My sister, my mom, and I shared:
3 House Rolls:
Oh Yes Roll - tuna, salmon, yellowtail, avocado (deep fried)
Michael Roll - spicy tuna, crab, cucumber, tuna, tobiko
Angel Roll - shrimp, avocado, cucumber, albacore, tobiko (torched)
All three rolls were well made with fresh fish and had great housemade sauces on top! I loved the torched albacore of the Angel Roll.
3 Item Bento - Salmon Teriyaki, Chicken Katsu, and 4pc California Roll (Served with Rice and Salad)
Bentos at Blue Nami always come with plenty of food for such a cheap price! The salmon teriyaki is really fresh and cooked well, the chicken katsu is tasty and served with katsu dipping sauce.
What I love about Blue Nami the most is that their house rolls are 50% off everyday! Such a great deal on quality sushi rolls.1 Previous Review: Show all »

Fair Oaks, CA
After trying many popular sushi places in Sacramento, I finally decided to go down the street to this teeny tiny sushi place in my grocery store strip mall. I was prepared for dirty and low quality fish. I was so incredibly wrong.
Blue Nami - Orangevale is small. It is also always packed with people who appreciate how fresh the fish is. The service is as good as you can expect with every table full from open to close. Always friendly and never annoyed by the crowds waiting at the door. If you're a regular, you come to peace with the crowd waiting for a coveted table and happily wait your turn. In fact, you'll see customers glance up upon finishing their delicious meal and feel the need to clear out due to the wait, but never will you feel that pressure from your waitress.
I have tried almost every roll on the 50% off menu as well as their blackboard specials. My very favorite is the Sexy French. No rice, crab, spicy tuna and ebi surrounded by a delicate roll of cucumber. Their pan fried Goyza are so delicate and fresh, they seem to melt in your mouth!
Simple, friendly and the highest of quality ingredients is all I need from my sushi place. Always worth the wait! -

Great service, nice atmosphere... Crowded but fun. The half off house rolls are worth it! Overall, I would frequent again! I'm curious about the Folsom location because of the reviews on the service so I will check that out in the future.
Overall, this is a nice little restaurant that serves great sushi rolls at a decent price! -

I really enjoyed the sushi here...and I have not had the best luck with these 50 percent off places that are so popular in sac. The rolls are a decent size and hot tea is 1$ versus 3$+ at other sushi places. The first thing I check for at a sushi restaurant is how well they cook their rice, and theirs was perfectly cooked! The place was packed when we came, so there was only bar setting which was fine for us. The 4 stars its for the surly young guy who was our server. I don't know if it was an off day? I'm sorry we were unconvincing him by dining here! We noticed the other waiters/ess were quite friendly, so we plan to be back.

Review from Amy Q.
Its worth the drive Sacramentons! HALF OFF sushi place with the best quality fish without the techno music and rushed service. This place has amazing WHITE TUNA NIGRI(shiro maguro) for 5.50(2 pcs), I was amaze that they actually slightly torch it and give it this amazing flavor from the white tuna.
MICKY Roll- lemon, tempura shrimp, crab etc. Very good for $6.50.
Rolls Royce- I could pass, not a big fan of mandarin oranges on top of my roll.
Mercedes Ben- Good roll with lots of raw fish, salmon, tuna, and hamachi?
Super Liong King- Your average baked california roll with salmon and special sauce.
Rice was on point with seasoning. Everything came out at the right temperature. They have a sale on shooters, oyster shooter for $2. MMM!
I want to come back here once a week if I didn't live out all the way in Davis! -
Review from Joey H.
Came back here the other night with a friend who was from out of town. Great rolls, very creative menu with a huge assortment of rolls 50% off! The one main thing lacking was the lack of service. Becuase serivce to me is one of the most important attributes that a resturant should have I gotta give this review a 3 star rating. To the Blue Namie Staff: Bump up your customer serive and you may get a better rating next time! Overall they offer good rolls at a great price!

Review from Helen H.
My friend had a short lunch, so that resulted in me eating one of the fastest meals of my life. We were in and out in less than 30 minutes. Service was prompt, even though it didn't seem like it at the time.
The interior is decorated in a way that makes me feel as if I'm outside. When you open the door a gush of wind greets you. The tables, chairs, and sushi bar are made with wood. There was even a water fountain in the corner.
50% off house rolls.
Lighthouse- Inside the roll there was deep fried shrimp, spicy tuna, lemon, and basil. (I've never heard of basil used in a sushi roll but it works, for the most part.) It is topped with avocado, scallop, and albacore. The roll is torched. It had a lot of sauce, so it slid down my throat easily while I was trying to scarf it down. I wasn't able to fully enjoy the roll and distinguish the flavors until I ate the leftovers at home.
A good place for some cheap sushi if I'm ever in the area again. -

My friend suggested we meet here for dinner. I was skeptical. She's a newbie to the sushi world, hasn't been to maybe but 2 sushi places, and she selected a sushi place in a strip mall on Greenback. But, like a good friend, I went along with it.
I was wrong! This place is small and cozy and casual, and the sushi was actually good! I like that they give you edemame automatically (usually have have to pay for it). The 50% menu was great (although if they're ALWAYS 50% off, why not just price them way? Whatever, logic get beats out by marketing yet again). The service was friendly, the food was great, and the price can't be beat. 3 rolls with enough to take home, edemame, and soda for $20? Nice. We had the Crazy Max (spicy, and very tasty), and the Kauai (pineapple on sushi? Nice!). It's a bit of a drive for me, but if I were in area I'd happily go back. -

Sushi was really good, service was ok. Even with 50% off certain rolls the ending price tag for 4 people was outrageous.
I would go back if my bro wanted to meet me there just because I love him and but can go just about anywhere for what I got. -

My first night out with my hubby since I got back from Japan 2wks ago. We just moved up around this area from Orange County and very nervous about finding good quality Sushi place.
I wish the sushi bar was bigger, and could interact with sushi chefs more. Food-wise, Spicy tuna hand roll was good. Sweet shrimp and tuna were fresh. I did not like seared white tuna(Albacore) though. House rolls, I ordered spider rolls, but soft shell crab tempura was too soft and needs more crunchness.
Overall, service was good and food are 3.5 to me. I will keep looking for sushi places that I love around here. -

Placerville, CA
I love sushi and hate when I try a new spot only to leave disappointed with price, portion, or selection. Blue Nami in Roseville/Rocklin is amazing, however I just stood in this Blue Nami unacknowledged for 10 minutes. I overheard a seated table ask who their server was and saw them dismissed. I didn't wait, I'll drive to Roseville.

Sacramento, CA
It's just the best place around for fresh sushi and great service in my opinion. My husband and I lived out of state for 2 years for military service and I was so depressed about never even finding sushi worth mentioning when compared to Blue Nami.
I have never once had a bad experience and I have been there too many times to count (Original O'vale loc.). I crave the Flying Tiger roll with lemon and cilantro. There's something so delicious and fresh tasting with that ever-so-thin sliver of lemon including the rind and cilantro hidden in there somewhere. The Lighthouse is pretty delicious too with the same idea of adding thin sliced lemon and tucking fresh basil in the roll.
Recently, while dining with friends, I was craving their little side salad that comes with the sushi dinner with ginger dressing. I asked the waiter and he explained that unless I had it as a part of one of the specials, it would only come out as a larger salad and cost much more. I only wanted a small, side salad to taste and I was a little disappointed. I let him know I'd just steal my husband's and let the issue go...
...only to have him bring me a small, side salad "on the house.". It's the little things like that that make their service fantastic. They care and take pride and go out of their way to make their customers happy.
I'm feeling like sushi tonight... -

The bomb diggity!
Half off specials all the time=amazing food for an amazing price.
If you do venture off the half off rolls it can be a bit pricey but if you are looking for a quick sushi fix on the cheap you can totally do that here. -

Half price sushi at it's best!
Very nice place; clean, open, and just a very comfortable atmosphere overall. The sushi was excellent, and the service was just as good. I got the feeling this place is family owned but I never found out for sure. a great little find for excellent sushi, i'll be back for sure. -

OMG, nom nom nom.
I should start out by saying I HATE SUSHI! Eww! If you're going to slap something in front of my mouth, you better make sure it's cooked or you'll get it right back!! But then...
The Yellow Belly.
Sushi for the chicken made with... chicken... and cream cheese and deliciousness... made me want to branch out and try new things so I swallowed my pride and ordered the Light House... whoa.... as I'm chewnig the delicious rice and cashews and yumminess I am trying to get over the sheer fact that my mind had been totally blown.... Everything I knew was wrong, black was white, up was down and sushi was... GOOD! Next thing I know, I'm noming on Godzilla while splitting a firecracker with the beau and looking forward to next time when I can finally try that rolls royce that everyone is raving about. The California Roll can EAT. MY. SHORTS!
Gotta love 50% off rolls!
I will be back... maybe tonight? I want to try the flaming UFO thingie!! -

Oh hell yes.
I haven't been here in years and it's a cryin' shame! My better half brought me here for my birthday dinner and we had such a great experience. The quality of service and fish here was excellent.
The BBQ Albacore appetizer was so very delicious, melt in your mouth consistency and flavorful sauce. I just wish it had been a bit warmer but it was still so good.
We only ordered one roll off of the 50% off menu so the tag was pricey but the rolls were worth every penny! The X-File roll came to our table flaming, so it was actually like blowing out the birthday candles! (My bf actually re-lit them so I could take a picture, haha) A little big for the mouthhole but incredibly flavorful with cashew and cilantro (rad combo btw).
Wildfire had tasty fish flakes which looked more like pencil shavings but they were yummy, and the basil and deep fried asparagus combo was incredible. Rocky Mountain was probably the biggest roll and was covered in cucumber "pasta" which I swear also had "noodles" of fresh crab too. AMAZING.
My favorite roll would have to be the Rolls Royce though and this one was the cheapest of them all! Salmon, crab, ginger, basil, avocado, wasabi tobikko, and orange. Perfectly balanced and extremely fresh tasting. The orange was something new for me and I loved it!
Some people aren't a huge fan of the rolls at sushi joints but these had minimal sauces on them, if any at all: so they weren't overwhelmed by creamy garlic or sweet teriyaki. You could taste the fresh seafood and the other ingredients in each roll.
Huge fan, HUGE.
Ps. Service was outstanding. The petite gal who served us was bookin'!Listed in: Gimme raw fish!

When I lived in midtown, good sushi was relatively easy to get. Moving out to Orangevale makes finding good dining close to home a challenge. Thankfully, we have places like Blue Nami.
We have been going to Blue Nami for a few years. They are consistently good, and very affordable.
Their half price rolls menu allows us to go out to dinner for about $40, including sake!
The sushi is always fresh, and they make some original rolls. My favorite is probably the Volcano, followed by the Rolls Royce. They also have excellent miso soup!
The staff is always very friendly and courteous. The place is always clean! At times they do get busy, so if you go during dinner rush, expect to wait up to a half hour. The place is relatively small, but be patient, it's worth the wait! -

Orangevale, CA
I have to say when it comes to sushi no place has ever topped Kentaro's in Elk Grove Ca. but this little place Blue Nami has been our(me and my boufriends) close second. the rolls seem cheaper. we certainly seem to spend less here.
their gyoza is amazing, the "asteroids" appetizer is fantastic. we always get a zigzag handroll made as a house roll. its our favorite wherever we go. however its not perfect. they add imitation crab and cream-cheese to just about everything.. so if your not in the mood for it it seems difficult to find something good that isnt bland.
the staff is wonderful, theres outside seating (only a few tables thought), its clean, no fish smells, its got some pretty stuff to stare at inside architecture wise. its a little loud but that happens in such small popular places. i have never been there when its not all that busy. -
Review from Betty R.
I love sushi, I was introduced to it about 6 years ago and have been a fan ever since. I am not great at describing any particular type and I have a bit of difficulty ordering it because of the names they are given at different places which sometimes doesn't really tell you what the roll really consists of. I tend to tell the waiter/waitress what I like and they always fix me up something nice.
Here I ate a little of everything (ordered a few different rolls). I liked how they all tasted. Contrary to most sushi "connoisseurs" I do not know how to use the chopsticks very well so I use cheaters, I do not like the wasabi as it kills the actual flavor each roll is supposed to have and I enjoy a little bite of ginger after my entire meal.
The prices here are good, the place is cute, and the service is friendly. I don't know what the experience is like for dinner but I enjoy having lunch here any day.Listed in: Let's do Lunch!, Betty! Learn to use chopsticks…

It was ok I did not like that the rolls were had to much rice in them. It looked like they were trying to make it seam larget than it really was I dont want too much rice in my rolls. The fish was fresh wich i liked but i have had better. I hate judging this place so soon i know its new so maybe they need more time to get more together.

Blue Nami has a decent bento box, really good if you are in the mood for fish. I got the Salmon teriyaki and deep fired albacore tuna. The house rolls are sometimes 1/2 off, and anything off the list is pretty good. Presentation is wonderful. As a starter the astroids( crab/ cream cheese in tofu wrap) are delicious! And as any good Japanese connoisseur knows, you can't have sashimi/sushi without sake! The house Sake is the best I've had of that caliber, it packs a punch.
Overall, fun, delicious experience. Don't inhale your food, enjoy it a little! -

I was very impressed with the atmosphere, the service, the prices, and the food! The bento boxes were a good deal. I wish I could remember the names of the rolls I got, but they were delicious as well - especially the one with the scallop... YUM... Soft like jelly!!!

Had sushi here on Friday afternoon with my uncle and his girlfriend around 4pm while there happened to be not many other people eating. This was a good time to go the restaurant as it started to get crowded when we left.
I ordered one of the special rolls for the day, The UFO, and a Philadelphia Roll. The UFO roll comes out on foil with a fire lit underneath it. It is quite the spectacle. It wasn't really too spicy even though it contains spicy tuna.
My uncle ordered a James Bomb roll which contains eel and it was good as well.
I really like the hours the restaurant has too. Most sushi places close mid-day and are closed on either Sunday or Mondays. This particular sushi restaurant is open every day of the week and they do not close for breaks.
I would definitely eat there again. -

Not too pleased with the service. I had to flag down my server 4 times and then I went to the bar and ordered from the chief's. The restaurant wasn't too busy. Our server had three tables of 3-4 people each.
I'll give them a try again within the next two weeks to see if they have better service -

So after finding out that kirala closed down in Folsom, the next best thing was this place. After pulling up to park, I could tell it was going to be an amazing experience. And that it was!!
I ordered the Super Lion King. It was suuuuuper delicious. You have the right amounts of flavor in one bite and it is moist and nit dry like a few sushi places. I also ordered the Honey Dew roll. It may not look much when you get it but it has so much flavor that you'd think it would be a big roll. Both rolls are amazing. I would have taken off one star because they gave us our check before we even got our extra order, but it deserves the fifth star because they complemented us with free dessert. Staff is really kind and I give props to the chefs that work past closing. -

I love this place! One of my best friends first brought me to the Blue Nami in Roseville when he was living in Sacramento, and I've been hooked ever since. I think the one in Orangevale has a lot better service than the one in Roseville, even though the ambiance/atmosphere is a lot nicer in Roseville. But the rolls are still delish regardless, and all their house rolls are 50% off. We've ordered and tried so many over time, I can't keep track of which ones are particularly good, except that the Kauai roll has a perfect mix of salty and sweet with its addition of pineapple, and the Yummi Yummi is exactly what its name says it is. I'm from out of town, so being able to come here every once in awhile is always a treat.

This place is GREAT! We have dined in and ordered out and not once have we been dissatisfied or unhappy in any way. For about a year now they have had a LONG list of sushi rolls for 1/2 price (dubbed the "appetite stimulus plan"). Some restaurants will discount their food to bring people in, but most often the quality of the food suffers when they are not making as much profit. But, not here. We have been dining here for years, long before they put up the 1/2 off menu and many of the items we ordered in the past are on their 1/2 off list and they are just as fresh and delicious as they were when the price was higher. I commend Blue Nami on adjusting their prices in line with the bad economy and for not skimping on quality. I recommend the following rolls, as they are the ones we just can't get enough of:
Crazy Fly
Rolls Royce
Light House
Oh, and I cannot post this review without mentioning the EXCELLENT customer service. Every member of their staff is kind, gracious and prompt. Honestly, I cannot think of anything bad to say about this place and I have been coming here for almost 5 years. That is almost unheard of in the restaurant industry and trust me, I know because I worked in the industry for many years. -

By far, my favorite go-to spot for a healthy dose of sushi. And with the "Appetite Stimulus Plan" where all hand rolls are 50% off all day, everyday...I find my car driving here on its own!!! I have always been a bit leery about raw fish/sushi..you know how it is. But, with the stimulus plan in place, I'm liberated to dabble into new rolls...hint: for less 50 cents you can add fresh basil or cilantro to any roll - kicks up a notch and makes such a difference!
LOVE the ambience here...indoor waterfall, pleasant wait staff...consistant service and quality.
We highly recommend and have referred many of our friends here - even our sushi inhibited counterparts. All love it!
They have gift certificated available, and for our finicky, metro friends, this was the perfect graduation gift!!! Eat on!! -
Review from Tu-van L.
Great place for their house sushi at 50% off menu price. Appetizers are not like what you find at any other sushi restaurants in the area. I highly recommend the grilled yellowtail collar meat. That and a roll is probably more than enough for a satisfying meal. Yummy!

Folsom, CA
Not at all a real sushi bar. First off, no damp towels, a fixture at every sushi bar I've ever dined. Then, no talking to the sushi chef. He is too busy making rolls, which is the reason most people dine here. They are 1/2 off. So, instead of paying $12 for fifty cents worth of ingredients you pay $6. We tried to order sashimi a la carte, not the standard plate which only has salmon, hamachi and tuna. No luck. The waitress simply would not let us order what we wanted and we had to settle for the boring platter. The fish was good quality, but cut very thickly which challenges the jaws a bit. But, back to the roll thing. I just don't get it. The fish could be nearly anything and of any quality as it's smothered in a ton of rice, a variety of sauces, etc. Sushi is about the fish- great variety, seasonal catches, having the sushi chef interact and prepare something special. This place is as far from that as it gets. And, it's dirty. The fish case glass was smeared on the inside and the outside of the case had not been dusted for a long time. Want cheap rolls with wacky names? This is your place. Want sushi? Not so much here.

My Mom & I eat at Blue Nami religiously... I swear we probably go there once a week. We get the same 3 rolls every time- Oh Yes, Super Lion King, and Jason! They are truely addicting. And for the two of us our bill comes to $21. Seriously, $21 is such a steal I should feel guilty... No complaints at all! Service is outstanding, everyone is hardworking all the time! (I'm there enough to know ;)... I highly reccommened Blue Nami....

Cheap, yummy rolls. Great service. Close to my house. What more could a girl ask for?
Oh yeah, REFILLS FOR SODA. Don't order a Diet Coke(and clearly not read the menu like this genius) and be shocked when they plunk down a can and a cup in front of you. -

Best prices in town, with great rolls to back it up.
They have a complete roll list where everything is 50% off... which apparently (as it says) is for a limited time only... I guess that means "all day, every day" in Japanese.
The kind of place to bring a group of friends, and get a bunch of cheap rolls and share them all.
Try the Yummi Yummi. The name says it all. -

I'm diggin this spot. They have the half off rolls deal kind of like Arigato's but with fresher ingredients and bigger portions.
We tried the Rocky Mountain roll from the sushi wave menu and it was OK. The presentation was great and so was the taste, but I felt it could have been a larger portion for the price.
Nice little joint. Oyster shooters for $2 was a plus. The Honey Dew roll tasted bom diggity with the mango.
Our waiter reminded me of an asian Keanu Reeves. "Right on" "Awesome" .. which I thought was kick ass.
All in all a good spot. Local for me, good prices and good service.
