Blue Moon has a large menu of some very interesting burgers. Some standouts are the Black and Blue and the Southwest burgers. They also have a menu of side items including chicken strips, chicken (buffalo) wings, fries and shakes.
I found most of their burgers to be very good, but not outstanding. Their fries are frequently too greasy and once they're anything less than piping hot they lose all appeal. This goes doubly for their garlic fries.
Still, it's the only place like it in South Lake Union and I never feel terribly ripped off.
Please be advised that I am only reviewing the grilled cheese sandwich and their sticky floors. Sticky floors are never a good sign.
The name grilled cheese sandwich to me implies the use of a grill in the preparation. What I received was 2 pieces of white bread that were toasted in a toaster with 2 cold slices of cheese.
NO warm butter in the nooks and crannies
NO stands of melted cheese hanging from my glutinous lips
NO glistening grease residue coating my fingers
I can't believe I paid for 2 stale pieces of bread with cold cheese.
I could have spent my money on a bottle of MD20/20 and hung out at Pioneer Square until the meal van pulled up and gotten the exact same thing.
I'd given it almost two years since I've been to Blue Moon Burgers, thinking maybe they've improved.
Ugh.
Dude, this burger just sucks!! I got the burger - and it came out really burnt on the outside, and raw in the middle. The flavor just tasted like char. I would be embarrassed to service these burgers.
I also got fries which were also inedible. These hand-cut waffle fries were limp and disgusting.
The only redeeming factors for this place is that it's open on Sundays (try finding options for lunch on Sundays in this area; it's a challenge!), and for those who dig it, they have Bacon Salt in stock.

Should be named, Red Mill Jr, the red-headed stepchild.
Southwest Burger was great. Tasty and just the right amount of spice. Hand cut fries were good, too, but the batch I had were not as fresh as I would have liked.
Great shakes. But, otherwise, no great shakes.
Don't get me wrong. Everything else is perfectly fine. I had a chicken sandwich and it was tasty. Mr H had a burger which he enjoyed. And he said the beef was of a very good quality. The waffle fries were fun. (And, yes, one order was more than enough for two people.) There are three kinds of bacon salt on every table. Service was fast and friendly. The shakes (my peanut butter and his chocolate mint) were OMG delicious and much smoother than what you find most anywhere else.
BUT, I was expecting to be blown away by everything and I was not. I definitely prefer Red Mill and they are quite a bit cheaper. I'm not going to go running back to Blue Moon, but I certainly don't rule out a return trip. Especially when the mood for a shake hits. Did I mention I like their shakes?
Vegetarian delicousness! They have the best veggie burgers that come in two flavors- regular and southwest, all fired up on their grill. Great place if you're into buying local - they get all of their beef from a family farm in Oregon.
What to order: The Southwestern Burger with deep-fried jalapenos, the southwest veggie patty, pepperjack cheese, and delicious bbq sauce with the works.
I love the fact that the menu is so easy to read and not overwhelming to first time visitors. That's something I can't say about other burger joints.
The burgers are 1/4 lb patties of goodness on a fantastic bun that soaks up the goodness. I would urge those who have larger appetites to get a double burger. A 1/4 lb patty may not do it for some (like me). Even the simple burgers like "The Hamburger" are full of flavor and fresh ingredients.
The fries are certainly unique soft waffle/potato chip type slices of goodness. Perfectly seasoned so I didn't need to add salt.
The malts are so good and don't come out too thick (an annoyance of mine).
Wednesdays are half-price burger days. Come early, fight the crowds and get your burger on. This location is pretty low key outside of Wednesdays.
What a disappointment this place was. Of course, this is on the heels of my first ever visit to Red Mill last week but, even so, the burgers here are nothing special. Dried out, room temperature bun; frozen burger patty texture/taste; gobs of 'special' sauce; greasy/tough onion rings, etc. Many seem to praise this place for the extensive menu but, let's face it, if the fundamentals aren't there, all the creative toppings only serve to mask this fact. I'm sure they're aware of this fact as each table offers a variety of flavored bacon salt to remedy this issue.
Stumbled across a thread on Yelp talk Seattle for the best burger places in the area and found out about Blue Moon Burgers . . .
Two trips there in the few days I was in the area proved the unique and tasty qualities of the Blue Moon menu . . . see my pictures of the Double Bypass and Blue Cheese Mushroom burger.
The salad was tasty, fresh lettuce and greens, and the Peanut Butter Chocolate malt was yummy - I could use another one of those right about now . . .
Worth enough trips here to try all the other things on the menu . . . all made to order with care and innovative ingredients. That Double Bypass Burger has peanut butter on it, blending with the Blue Cheese and all the other ingredients - making a VERY TASTY eating experience.
HALF PRICE WEDNESDAYS make me think about dropping in all the way from the Bay Area in California . . . !!! See the photo of the notice on the door . . . it's 3PM - 9PM EVERY Wednesday!!!

Always worth the trip to Republican. Nice, delicious, and greasy!
This place has some good burgers. I went in here on a Wednesday and ordered a black and blue burger, fries, and a Red Stripe. My girlfriend had the same and to our surprise it turned out that the give half off on Wednesdays and it cam out to around $17. Very reasonable if you ask me. The burgers were awesome, the beers were cold and the fries were cross cut (my favorite). The service was very friendly and prompt. I'll be going back.
Today was my first visit to Blue Moon. I was pleasantly surprised. I ordered a cheese burger with a gardenburger patty. I was so glad to find that my gardenburger patty was piping hot and actually grilled with the grill marks and grill flavor. Just because I don't eat beef doesn't mean I want a lukewarm gardenburger. It was delish. I really enjoyed the Blue Moon sauce. What is that stuff? Mayo and BBQ sauce? Whatever it is, it's good. The burger was huge and more than enough to fill me up. I'm glad I didn't order the seemingly HUGE order of fries that I saw other people with. They looked tasty though. Sort of shoestring meets hand cut.
There was plenty of seating, mostly indoor but with some sidewalk tables set-up.
The indoor seating area lacked personality for some reason. It seemed a little blah. I also realized long after I had ordered that I wasn't asked what kind of cheese I wanted on my cheese burger. I really wanted pepperjack, cheddar was fine though. I guess it's more my fault than theirs.
I will definitely be back.
What you need to know about me is that I'm a sucker for fruits in savory meals. So in cases of a burger joint, I'm the one that always gets the pineapple and if it comes with some sort of meat and bun, then great!
When I got to Blue Moon, the menu surprised me with the choices I had! But the choice was easy for me, I ordered the Blue Hawaiian Burger - pineapple ring + beef pattie + pepper jack cheese + lettuce/tomatoes/onions + teriyaki sauce. Unfortunately, there was significantly more grease than teriyaki sauce to the point where my burger was just leaking fat.
Overall, the burger wasn't bad, but I've definitely had better. I'm thinking I should have used the money from the burger to get a Blue Hawaiian for a liquid lunch. I'm sure I would have been a much happier camper.
Blue Moon or Red Mill? Blue Moon or Red Mill? That difficulty decision is a nice problem to have.
Everytime I go to Blue Moon Burger I feel like it's a reward. I never make it a destination to go, I just end up there because it's by two businesses I frequent: Guitar Center and Firestone. After I'm done getting gear or getting our tour van serviced (both of which are for my band who I shall shamelesssly plug right here: www dot myspace dot com backslash veritasband ), I remember "hey, there's a great burger joint right around the corner!"
Last time, I had the portabello mushroom and bacon burger. That was delicious. Also, their onion rings, dipped in their spicy "blue moon" sauce is quite tasty as well. Never tried their milkshakes, because I usually end up getting a beer. And yes, they do have Blue Moon White Ale.
Ok, I just found the reason I'm going to go with Blue Moon over Red Mill. Because they serve beer.
Great tasting burgers combined with fresh buns and a great special sauce. I went on a Wednesday when the burgers are half off with a side or drink purchase. What a steal! Great beer selection. I will be back next time in Seattle!
This review is only for this location. The Fremont location is significantly better in every way and is reviewed separately. It's a full star better on Yelp, so obviously I'm not alone here.
The organization, or lack thereof, in this location dooms it. Your burger might have what you ordered on it...the staff coordination sucks. Take it from a professional waitron...you gotta communicate somehow. The burgers themselves are basically as good as the ones in Fremont; same patties, but toppings are inconsistent here and the onion rings less consistently perfect. Service is also a lot more harried. It probably would be four stars, but two things stick in my craw: I get charged wildly varying amounts here for the same thing, and when you won't serve me beer because you claim i'm too young (when i'm dead sober and showing you my unexpired WA driver license that says i'm 32), you're gonna lose stars.
Still, though i might pay $random.number and the quality control is not up to the standards of the Fremont location, the burger is still pretty gosh darn good (most of the time) and the only game in town for a QSR burger in Cascade-SLU-Allenland-Whatever. It'd be nice if they'd step their game up, though...
I love burgers and am always in search of another great burger joint. Today we went to Blue Moon Burgers based on a lot of good Yelp reviews and we were not disappointed. It's definitely a fast-food place, but there's no trans fat and all the burgers are made from hormone-free beef! I like that.
Did I mention the fries? Most freshly-made fries are horribly soggy and greasy, so I don't know what they did, but these are crispy and seasoned and awesome!
I had the bacon cheeseburger and Ed had the Code Blue burger (oddly enough, called something else in the restaurant) with peanut butter on it! Interesting, he said, but next time he'd leave off the PB.
Easily one of the best burgers I've had around here. They offer a huge variety of big messy burgers, with the good prices and reasonably fast cooking times you would expect. They're fries are REALLY good, and an order is plenty for a couple to share, although maybe just a bit less than you'd want for two buddies. They're pretty greasy, and remind me of the fries at Dick's Burgers.
They have a happy hour on Wednesdays 3-9 where you get 1/2 off. I've been to both locations, SLU and Fremont, and haven't noticed any differences.
When working on Westlake, there are actually a wealth of options (not all of them good). Paddy Coyne's is a favorite spot, but not the sort of place I can eat alone. Joe's BBQ is alright, but doesn't make up in flavor what it lacks in authenticity. But now that I've discovered Blue Moon Burgers, lunch is pretty much a no-brainer. This place is no-nonsense, tasty, and cheap. I'm already planning a return trip so I can try their buffalo wings.
Dad's Old Fashioned Root Beer? Check. Onion rings? Check. Ability to add bacon to pretty much anything on the menu on-demand? Check. Lunch for less than $8? Yes please!
Ahhh, tasty, large, non-greasy yet greasy yumminess. These burgers are fillers! Even though Blue Moon's burgers are expensive....ya gotta order a side of fries or a side of onion rings (or both). Cuz let's be honest, if you're eating a burger then you cannot be a Pansy about it! Their fries are uber tasty and onion rings are well..onion ringy.
Enjoy the food, but be ready to take out a 2nd mortgage. Worth it...? Every once in a while yes. Or you could just go when they have specials (hey, why haven't I thought of that yet? Doh!).
I have to say, I never eat fast food. Ever. I hate eating burgers anywhere but my own kitchen, usually! I have not visited Red Mill yet but I love Blue Moon. It is right across from my boyfriend's work so I am constantly trying to talk him into going there for lunch (not hard to do.)
I love all of the choices they have... a burger with blue cheese? Amazing. Southwest burger with buffalo sauce? Killer. Hell, even the regular old burger there is excellent. It is the only place my three year old will eat a burger, as well :)
If you are in the Seattle area and want a quick (but awesome) lunch, stop by Blue Moon for a burger and a beer, you will be glad you did!
A hidden gem just off of Westlake. I've taken the slut many times to Lake Uniion and never noticed it until i decided to walk back one day and stopped in for lunch.
First of all I should say it was lunch time on a weekday and it was packed, the line was pretty long but I didn't have to wait long. I ordered the "Blue Shrume" burger and fires. Even though it was packed my food came out pretty quick.
The food was awesome. I challenge anyone to find a place that serves a burger with blue cheese and a portabella mushroom that tastes this good in the city. Hands down the best burger I've had in a while.
Next time I'm going to try the "Code Blue" burger, I have to see what a bacon cheese and peanut butter combination tastes like.
Amazing place for a burger.
See my review of the Fremont store.

Used to be that for a week or so out of every month I wanted to quit my job, get a divorce, kick puppies, and scream obscenities at anyone who crossed me while beating the fuck out of them with whatever was handy. This was a purely hormonal urge that I kept under control with a disturbing display of emotional eating, like everything in sight, but especially things of the deep fried variety.
I have a new job, my divorce will be final in a month and I have replaced the eating with the running like Forest Gump with a snatch and a brain- BUT, there is no denying the hormonal urge for things deep fried. For some bitches it's chocolate, for this bitch it's onion rings (or a really garlicky Caesar with some serious croutons).
That I can walk swiftly to this place from my office and balance my onion ring fetish with a healthy salmon patty on a whole wheat bun as a Santa Fe Burger with deep fried jalapeno buttons all over it has likely saved the lives puppies and unsuspecting dolts everywhere.
Sunday morning when everybody was heading to the Bite of Seattle, John and I decided to try Blue Moon Burgers. We found it on Twitter and it immediately caught our interest. We were right! My Bacon Cheeseburger was wonderful. John had the Black an Blue burger and was very tasty. We wish we could have another one but we were too full! The burgers are hormone and antibiotic free and the fries are hand-cut in a fun shape. Nice! We will definitely be back!
Nothing special. I went there once and won't go again. Go to Norm's Eatery or Hale's Brewery for a good burger.
The size of my cheeseburger was decent, but the meat just wasn't tasty. I liked the fact that I could ask for a wheat bun but beyond that I just didn't see/ 'taste' the appeal.
Maybe I'll be back during their 1/2 off Wednesday happy hour (3pm-9pm). The sign out in front says the special also includes their Kobe burger but that's not an option I've seen on the menu. Strange...
When I visited Seattle with my boyfriend, this was our first real stop because we were famished. I wanted something rather light, so I got a grilled cheese with tomato. It was super tasty and cheap too! The garlic fries sounded more exciting than they really were, but the service and the speed here all made up for that.
America's economy exists and survives solely on the basis of selling cheeseburgers to one another. Ever since corporations got it into their head and boardrooms that sending manufacturing jobs overseas was the way to make a good shortterm profit, Americans have adapted to the new Cheezburger Economy. Cat approved, truly all-American.
Based strictly on seeing a sandwich board sign on the street corner, I made Blue Moon Burger my Lunch of Choice today. The first good sign was that the line was deep, meaning other people herded into this place at lunch. Quality? Or convenience?
The service was Top Notch Cheezburger. These people know how to get your burger made to order and in your yaw in ample efficiency. My choice was a double cheeseburger with a side of fries.
As for the actual product itself, well, it's a cheeseburger, complete with the standard Restaurant Specific special sauce (Blue Moon sauce, which kept making my brain think "blue cheese", a most revolting substance, but the sauce was probably just mayonaisse and ketchup...or somesuch derivative). Beyond that, it does the job of putting sustenance inside my stomach. The fries at first were great, but they got a bit soggy and mushy as I dug into the heaping portion.
On the good side, the menu board informs us that Blue Moon uses natural beef only, which is a serious plus in my book. Their fries are handcut. Overall, the quality of ingredients, save the generic iceburg lettuce used as garnish, is pretty good.
Blue Moon Burgers is passable but it's not the kind of place where I'd veer far out of my way for lunch. There certainly are better cheezburgers to be had (and definitely many that are worse).
Best burger in Seattle! All natural meat, nice servers, reasonably priced, great Blue Moon Sauce, free grilled onions, and no line out the door like at Red Mill.
I have been lax about updating this review and that makes me kind of a hypocrite.
Since this review three things have happened:
1. The owner responded to me personally and was very nice about things.
2. I've been back and the issues were indeed fixed.
3. I actually interviewed the owner and we had a long conversation about Yelp, social media and customer service.
So, I am giving a good mood-swingy upgrade for my Blue Moon review.
Charlie, the owner, tells me the fries (which were already tasty) are even better. So I need to go check that out.

As a black bean burger enthusiast, I went for the Southwest Gardenburger, disappointing. I had it in the Southwest Burger, which had lots of promise, but ended up being overspiced. The Jalapeño Bottle Caps were amazing though, I would definitely order them again, but on the side.
This time I went for the Garlic Parmesan Fries, they had so much garlic that there must be someone in the back mincing cloves all day long, the cheese tasted like it came from a Kraft shaker, and both were so cold that the warm fries quickly became limp and greasy.
All this being said, a gardenburger with cheese was good, if overpriced.
Half-priced burgers on Wednesday evenings brings us back at least once a month. They've improved their track record- since my previous review (2007), they've only messed up my order once. The grilled portobella mushrooms add heft to my otherwise plain burger. I'm not sure if I still endorse the garlic parm fries (too much garlic!) as I now rather get my grease with their huge onion rings.

I LOOOOVE this place. it's so great. I love the atmosphere, very chill, very casual, and the day to go is on wednesday. Half price burgers from 3pm-close. They make a big hype about the kobe burgers... but really.. i didnt think it was anything special. I definitely did not think that it was worth the extra 5 bucks.
I went back a few weeks ago and got a burger without the kobe.. AMAZING. Could not taste a difference between kobe and regular beef patty.
I've been running past this place since it opened on my 10 mile route around Lake Union, so when I found myself in the neighborhood at 1:00 today, stopped in with my coworker.
I had a cheeseburger, fries, and vanilla shake. It came to $13 and change, which I think is pricey for the product.
The fries were crispy, but not hot. The burger arrived on a cold white-bread bun. It was fairly fresh tasting - crisp lettuce, tomato, onion. But a cold bun! Even the $1.40 Dick's cheeseburger has a grilled bun. How hard can that be. The milkshake was blah too.
If you go, despite my advice, get onion rings - they looked better than the load of fries.
The employees were not friendly.
The place has the feel of a franchise inside - pleasant looking, but not particularly warm in a "cool hang-out" sort of way.
Really, nothing good to say, which isn't like me normally.
My first time to Blue Moon Burgers, went with a friend for lunch. I got a milkshake and a Shroom Burger, substituting cheddar for the bleu cheese.
The burger was absolutely delicious, the buns were tasty and the hamburger meat was of a very high quality. Every condiment and sauce was fresh and wonderful tasting. Definitely my favorite cheeseburger in a long time, it bumped off Red Mill Burger on my favorites.
The milk shake was AMAZING. Chocolate peanut butter. The only reason I gave my review a four star was that the milkshake was about room temperature, if it was colder I would have given my review a 5 star.
I'll definitely be heading back. Join me won't you?
brain: I'm having a flustered-fuck of a day, I wanna eat something bad
stomach: dead cow
brain: I guess a hamburger would do
stomach: onions, cheese, everything, extra grease
brain: Fries, onion rings or nothing...should I at least go somewhat healthy?
stomach: fuck health ya fruit bag, get the fries and while you're at it, add a soda. BOOM
brain: fuuuuuck, this is gonna make me sick
stomach: don't worry, I have a fast turn over rate
don't do the fries, they were a pit of greasy despair and the burger was only meh
Environment: I walked in delightfully surprised as I passed through it's front door. It was bigger than I anticipated judging by the exterior. There were plenty of seats, and about 1/2 full as I aririved in before the lunch rush. It was about 85% full when I left about 30 min later. It was very clean. I also enjoyed seeing the different playbills on the walls for upcoming events and performances as it adds a little flavor to the place.
Food: I ordered a Bacon Cheeseburger. I could've made it a double burger, but I wasn't sure how big it would be since this was my first time at Blue Moon. For all you ex-californians , the burger was about the size of a In-N-Out burger. I wasn't interested in fries, but I did get a fountain drink. The burger was tasty, but now kinda wishing I had got the double, as I was hungrier today than I had first thought. Oh well, I can always go back :)
They have many options, but none have hit a home run with me yet. Solidly mediocre. Staff amiable. Selling Blue Moon beer (even though it is a Coors product, sorry to inform ya) is a tiny plus.
Wireless leech-able from Uptown next door also an inadvertent plus.
Two seems like a rather low rating, but Yelp's helpful description of two stars is entirely fitting: "Meh. I've experienced better."
Lemme say, I was starving, and in the mood for a burger, and excited to love this place. It's pretty close to home, it's fairly inexpensive, its menu seems inventive enough. And through my first few bites, I was uncritical.
But then I finished my burger and was left to examine the mess and the remaining garlic fries and milkshake. And Meh, I've Expereienced Better was about as good as it felt.
OK size -- I don't need half a cow, but I imagine some people will be less than enthused. I don't know if the meat has enough flavor to make up for the thin patties.
OK flavor -- nothing tastes bad. But the shake was barely chocolate-minty (mostly just sugary), the bacon was overly salty, and the veggies barely added any fresh punch to the burger. The pile of garlic atop the fries was terribly misleading. Instead of the delicious, date-ruining garlic excess one gets at Kid Valley, here we had basically a handful of soggy Dick's fries covered in so much impossibly-bland minced garlic that it half the fires were irretrevable at the bottom. I'm not digging my hands through minced garlic for ay fries, certainly not these.
Service was, as another review said, "blah." I felt vaguely like the cashier was silently criticizing our order, but maybe that's my own personal insecurity. The waiter (or cook? busboy? someone from the kitchen area) brought our our milkshakes first, then the burgers, then, a couple minutes later, the fires. Was a weird procession of food delivery.
Other notes: No ketchup on the table -- must request a small cup of it. Cheapo napkins ineffective against drippy burger. Lack of plates also poor choice with such messy burgers. Menus on website had slighly cheaper prices. Serves root beer floats, which I love.
