We stayed there last year in February for a seminar in Monterey. The rooms are tiny but they are very clean and warm and the people who ran the motel were really nice . It is not fancy, but they have a little gas fireplace in the room. We will be staying there again this February.

First off you get what you pay for and this place is alright for $30. They have wifi and thats great ohh and its free. The heater works very well and If you get a room with a fireplace its a plus. The tvs are a old school 1990 Zenith with off color and it comes with comcast cable. The beds are good big and clean same with the bathrooms, but just as a tip keep the bathroom door close cause it will bring in cool air. The downsides are, well nothing at all come on it was only $30 what do you expect?
Just put it this way I"ll come again that for sure -

"You already have TWO TOWELS" is my new mantra.
I've stayed in a few cheap motels in my time, and usually I'm perfectly satisfied. Word to the wise: there is a Motel 6 down the street. Stay there. This is the worst motel experience I've ever had.
Here is what happened to my group:
I booked the reservation online (their site is decent)
It didn't e-mail me a confirmation and I wasn't sure if I had pressed the correct date button. I called to confirm
"Hello?" "Hello!" "Can I check on a reservation?" "Hello?" "Yes, can I check on a reservation?" "Oh yes maam! When do you want to make it?" "I already made it online." "Hello? What date?" "The 18th." "What date? Maam?" "The 18th!" "Oh yes, you'd be most welcome." "Right, can you see if the reservation went through?"... "What is your name?" "(I say my name)" "Yes maam, what is your name?" "(I say it again)" "Spell?" "(I spell)" "Okay maam." "Do you have my reservation?" "You would be most welcome, maam!"
English not good (clerk very foreign). I gave up, hoped I didn't have two reservations, and showed up at the motel as scheduled.
They didn't have my reservation at all. No, scratch that five minutes later, they had it. On the wrong date, and had charged me for a no-show. I explained the phone conversation, and proceeded to get into a massive misunderstanding with (I'm assuming) the owner who told me I had made the reservation online, not on the phone. I explained that I called to confirm the dates because I wasn't sure if they were correct on the reservation online. He told me I had made the reservation online, not on the phone. I tried again, and failed. English not good. Owner very foreign and not wanting to listen. We eventually arrived at him giving me a key for a room and not charging me extra for the no show (though he clearly thought I was very wrong and some crazy bitchy woman), and we uneasily parted ways.
The room was pretty clean and fine for the price paid ($42/night). It was very pink, had a fridge and a microwave, and a perfect burn on the floor where an iron had been dropped. The water pressure was excellent and there was a heater. The room was tiny for four people, even with the double beds.
There were only two towels. There were four of us staying in the two beds, so two of us went to the desk to get an iron/board and more towels. We received the ironing devices without complaint, but were informed that we already had TWO TOWELS in the room. Yes, we said, we could use a couple more. After another complaint, the owner stalked off to the supply closet and unhappily gave us TWO MORE towels. Crazy women needing more than 1/2 a towel each...
The rest of the visit went by without incident, barring getting stared at every time we came and went. It's a really strange place and we spent quite awhile laughing at how awful the service/hospitality was. Like I said: Motel 6, my friends. Right down the road.
Oh! And try the little pastry place just down the road, too! AMAZING muffins. -

This place gets zero stars. Too bad it's not an option.
1) There was a dirty, crusty sock on the floor when we checked into our room.
2) Paper thin walls! Involuntary ear-hustling. Not cool.
and most importantly,
3) HORRIBLE service. When I made the reservation, I made a special request for a late check-out because I was running in the local half-marathon and would probably not make it back to the motel in time for check-out. I received an email with a confirmation of the special request, and even followed-up with a phone call to make sure that it wouldn't be a problem. BUT, lo and behold, 5 minutes after I crossed the finish line, the angry motel manager calls my boyfriend, screaming that he will charge us $100 if we don't come and check out right NOW. So instead of being able to relax after running my damn 13 miles, we had to pack our crap and get in the car for the long drive back home.
Bitter? Yes, to say the least. -

You get what you pay for. Found it on Orbitz for $39 a night for Friday and Saturday, with tax and fees, around $100 for two nights. Great location if you want to be near the Monterey Fairgrounds about .5 mile away. Next to Safeway and eateries. Small one story place, basic but run down and on the unclean side when you start taking a closer look.
Pro's:
Price
Free wifi
Free breakfast in the tiny check in lobby but didn't check it out
Fridge, motor is loud
Heater is loud so you might want to go in the summer time when it is isn't needed
Microwave
Cons:
Smell of old Indian spices in the check in lobby
Had to ask for hair dryer
Not well kept, dust on the floorboards, mold on the ceiling above the shower
Towels are rough
Small room
Nail holes in walls
Hear the neighbors snore, TV, talk and walk in the outside hall
Bed is old, can feel the springs
No phones, hairdryers, iron or boards in rooms
So for a cheap place that is near conveniences, ok. -

This place is 1 star, as it was rated on Orbitz ($39 per night). There were a few issues I had with the place:
1. No iron or ironing board in the room. I asked the old man in the lobby if he had one, and he OPENED A DRAWER to check for an iron and ironing board and then told me he only works there once every six months. Let's just say he was absolutely clueless.
2. The place is loud. You will hear the sweet sounds of love coming from other rooms, the pop machine starting and restarting every twenty seconds if you are in room 0, and doors slamming throughout the night.
3. One of the girls was in the bathroom getting ready to go out while the three of us were in the other room we reserved. She noticed that a man's face was looking through the small window at her (he had actually lifted himself off the ground to get a peep). We couldn't track down the Tom.
4. One should never have high expectations for a continental breakfast. This place had cut muffins bought from Costco into quarters.
It is a convenient location, close to highways. The rooms aren't that bad, but the beds are not comfortable. You get wi-fi and HBO amongst other cable channels. Also, there is a refrigerator. -

Arrived and asked about a tourist magazine coupon and the advertised $28.99 nightly rate. Saw the room and though all crowded into a small room, looked quite nice with parking right off the street in their small private lot in front of my room! He asked for a returnable (upon check-out) $100 deposit but returned it a few minutes later. Room was very nice with even a self-starting gas fireplace!!! Water pressure was good and in the shower, the curtain was moldy on inside with several hairs on it from previous boarders. For what the owner stated was a "hundred-dollar" room, the room was furnished with furniture worthy of a Tenderloin fleabag, and I could easily hear the neighbor's shower(s) running and other "sounds". Tried to stay an additional night but was told the magazine discount is good ONLY for one night and now the rate was $45. Oh well... so much for trying to give him another filled room..... The wifi was free, strong signal and required NO password.
NOTE: As I packed to depart, he came by and told me if I still wanted to stay at the same discounted rate as the previous rate, I could stay and stay I did. The wifi, though my laptop connected with NO problem the morning I checked-out, couldn't give me a connection to the internet.... odd. Guess someone wanted me OUT of there!!Listed in: I need it, I gotta GO (no…

I have contemplated how many stars I am going to give this place for a while now and I feel I must factor in that I KNEW this was a motel, that I KNEW it was a one star place, and that I KNEW that I only paid $40 for one night after taxes. I wasn't expecting this place to be anything but a bed, and a shower. I was amazed that our room offered a fridge, microwave, cable television and a gas fireplace. That is enough for the price of this place.
The rooms are small and the shower curtains are disgusting. Walls are thin too but it's really not a big problem. I had my own comforter in my car and brought in to use at night. Has anyone seen that tv/news show a few years back that said hotel comforters are among the dirtiest things in the room and you should take it off immediately? Well I did and I removed the comforter and put it in the corner. Apparently airplanes are filthy too...
I had no problems with the clerk and he was even walking around outside when it was time to check out. There was no paperwork to sign out and I just handed him the key. I did give him my car model and license plate so I wouldn't get towed parking. Parking is free here.
The ice machine wasn't working when I got back to my room around midnight and shortly after I asked there was a man working on it. They had someone work on it at midnight! When we asked when the ice would be ready the man said, "It'll be ready in one hours time." Hehe, who talks like that?! Too funny.
I REALLY feel like they try here and for what amenities they had in the room all I can ask for is maybe new shower curtains.
Another plus about this budget place is that they have free wi-fi. The nicer hotels I've stayed at always charge for internet, parking, etc... It's always the little fees. -

We booked this place for cheap. It was Memorial Day weekend, and everything else was either booked or ridiculously expensive. I regret not going with the ridiculously expensive. By FAAAR, the WORST place I have ever stayed at. Everything was so dirty. I was afraid to touch the blankets, because I like being STD-free. The room was crowded, and you barely had room to move around. The shower wouldn't turn off completely, so I heard the splattering of water all night. Worst of all was the bed. The bed sinks wherever you sit on it, and it creaks, too. Extremely uncomfortable. My whole body was aching the next morning. Oh, and yes, they have free breakfast... if you like instant coffee.

Ok---We drove the coast and had this place recommended to us! We paid 39 and had a gas fireplace. Agreed....not THE cleanest place, but not super out of line either. Realize this...it is a cheap motel. I am going to buck all the negative reviews because after driving from Portland to LA this was the best bargain for the dollar we found. If we would have paid more then 50.00 it would not have been worth it. We stayed in Padre Oaks around the corner for 49 the nite before and that was a SUPER, SUPER clean motel and well worth it. I've seen a lot worse then this.

I don't have the option to put "ZERO" or "NEGATIVE".........
This is by far the worst "hole in the wall" of a hotel I have ever stayed at! I would NOT recommend this place to anyone unless of course you want to experience the "Ghetto" of Monterey.......
We paid $140 a night for the July 4th weekend. We could have paid $50 more to spend the night with 2 kids at a more recommended place.
We checked out as soon as we could the next morning!!
PLEASE DO NOT BOOK THIS PLACE.
Also the "continental breakfast" is the worst ever! They cut the muffins up into 4 pieces. Now I wonder if they even wore gloves when they did that! Ewwwww.......... -

If I was paying 65-80 bucks as a place like this would normally charge, I would have opted to give this place 2-3 stars tops. I mean of course there are better places to stay that offer better creature comforts. The things that really bugged me were the thin walls and how you could hear people in the next room if they should so happen to sneeze. The room is pretty small for 2 queen beds. The heater is pretty loud at times. HOWEVER, IT IS WHAT IT IS. For the price of what you pay this place is NOT that bad. The room is 40 bucks and is close to 7-11, a shell gas station and a really nice Safeway all within walking distance. The cable tv also includes about 70+ channels where other places would give like 30. I plugged in the laptop expecting to pay for wifi but low and behold, it connected for free!! It even includes a microwave and fridge. I would say to give this place a chance if you're on a budget in the Monterey Bay Area. I don't know if I would stay here in the summer as there was no a/c; but for a cold weekend in December it was cozy enough, and didn't hurt the wallet. The clerk was pretty nice to us too. Now if you're used to upper-class hotels, used to first-class room service and have money to burn, this place is not for you.
