RIBBIT! RIBBIT!!
There are a few very simple reasons I like the Blue Frog . . .
$1 Tacos on Mondays - what's NOT to like?? They're tasty anyway, but at this price, they're doubly good!
Good chips, cheese dip and salsa.
Tasty margaritas.
The Frog is right across the street from The Earl, so it's the perfect place to go before catching a show.
Sometimes, it's so easy to like a place, and for the most simple reasons!

Chicken nachos? Seriously - that's chicken?
Friggin TACO MAC has better chicken nachos than this. A Mexican bum shits better chicken nachos than this.
The service was nice, the neighborhood is scary (people apparently keep getting shot around here while doing nothing in particular to deserve it), and the cleanliness was just below where I like it (not nasty, but just a little... sticky. Floor and table).
Optimus bored and OUT!

I'd been to Blue Frog quite a few times to eat, drink and play the weekend poker games, but no more.
The poker games are completely out of control. They draw a lot of people from the surrounding neighborhood who like to start fights. One of them even hit the bartender! And nothing happened! The guy who runs the poker show is a complete moron who has no idea whats going on, or just doesn't care.
And add to that the manager being a complete jackass to a friend of mine when she complained about her order. Forget it, I'll go to El Amigo if I want crappy "Mexican" food and drunk rowdy patrons. At least I won't have to worry about getting shot in the surrounding neighborhood.

I just don't get the super reviews. The food at Blue Frog is really no better than your Mexican… Read more »
Pomegranate margaritas, shrimp quesadilla, guacamole, Julie, all great reasons to visit the Frog. They went through a rough patch within the last year when the management changed hands, but seem to have their stuff together again. This is definitely the spot for cheap Mexican food in the village.

The food is pretty lame in general. The chicken nachos were very bland and watery. I think the chicken came from a can as did the guac and salsa.. Service was ok although the bartender paid more attention to her cell phone.
OK place for an early evening / late afternoon beer.
I haven't tried the $1 tacos yet but what can you really expect for a buck?
Get yer $1 tacos on! (Mondays and Tuesdays)
I've been to Blue Frog twice now: Last week and this past Monday.
Great service by Lunchbox, yummy $1 steak tacos and a pitcher of pomegranate (frozen) margarita... WHAT A NIGHT!
The $1 tacos are definitely a steal. Order up some guacamole, cheese dip and jalapenos and your tacos are good to go.
I haven't tried any of their other food. But I'm definitely going to stop by this establishment again for their awesome (and cheap) tacos.
Okay so my first review isn't some fancy restaurant in Atlanta, although I plan to get there. It is however a much loved restaurant I really enjoy eating at. I go to the blue frog a lot. I know for most food loving people it isn't considered "authentic" Mexican. I can say it is always delicious.
We always get seated pretty fast with the occasional traffic jam on Mondays or Tuesdays. The staff is super efficient and layed back. The manager is always in and out of the kitchen helping his employees which I find commendable.
The food is great. I love the frozen mango margaritas. I really love getting delicious crunchy tacos for one dollar on monday and tuesdays. My favorite are the beef tacos and the chicken tacos. You can also get steak or vegetable. The food always tastes fresh. I love getting a side of veggies. They aren't your typical onions, peppers and tomatoes. The veggies include zuchinni, squash, broccoli, onions, peppers, and even portabella mushrooms. Yummy. And always cooked to order or at least tastes that way to me. Yummy cheesy queso dip. I really like the salsa. really fresh tomatoes and cilantro and is pretty spicy but not over bearing.
Good food. Good people. Fun place to hang out. Questionable music selection. (They are always playing 90's music) All around great place.

It's not bad, but it's not great either. As described in another review, this seems to just be your run-of-the-mill neighborhood Mexican joint. The main draw here seems to be the $1 Taco Night on Tuesdays.
With another, more authentic, and undeniably more tasty Mexican selection down the street it is hard for me to justify Blue Frog Cantina on most nights out in EAV.

Don't listen to the mewling babies. There is much to love about this place and very little to dislike.
Stuff I love (and not necessarily in this order); Smokin' hot babes behind the bar; cool rock n' roll tunes piped in on the sound system (rather than typical Mexican radio station drivel or Mariache band inspired tunes much like you find in most Tex-Mex joints); the tacos on dollar taco nights - every Monday AND Tuesday - never disappoint; the crowd is an eclectic mix of AEV hipsters and neighborhood slumming yuppies; and the beer selection is large enough and the prices are cheap enough.
Stuff I do not like: Often too crowded at the bar; service is inconsistent - runs from good to lousy depending on the crowd size; food quality is also inconsistent - runs from amazingly good to disappointingly mediocre; bathroom is awkward and cramped; and the noise level is bad - place gets really loud even if it is only halfway crowded.
Side note: I don't think the Mexican place down the street is that much better as some have announced in their reviews. It has just as many drawbacks and benefits. The place down the street just differs markedly in that they specialize in tamales and beer by the bucket.
Okay... the food is good. Monday and Tuesday night dollar taco is nice too (although F.R.O.G.'s version is only on Monday, it includes dollar beers too). I also like the patio for bird/ people watching. The margaritas are pretty tasty... especially with a shot of strawberry flavoring. The service.... SUCKS! We have two servers that regularly serve us (we go there a lot) ... the dude with blond hair who is mostly a jerk who likes to wear trendy-ironic outfits... which is just random tacky stuff he probably found at a goodwill and a girl who is most likely a pothead. She takes 20 minutes to come to the table, no matter if the place is busy or slow. 3 tables is what she considers "craziness." She does one thing at a time. AKA... brings only one table's check at a time, when asked for more water and salsa... brings water 15 minutes later then 5 minutes after that brings salsa. Aaanndd... she took two orders at my table.... took mine.... then took the other... and then asked what mine was again. Really? She also complains to other patrons about how crappy of a tipper the other customer was. Hello.... maybe if you put in a little elbow grease you might get a comparable tip. Everything else is cool though... :0)
Chips and salsa make me happy. This place has the best in town... I would recommend just getting the tacos.. they are simple and great to the stomach. You can also get a $15 pitcher of margaritas that taste great. $1 Taco night on Mondays and Tuesdays... and people love to play darts here. Standard Mexican food with no frills.
The area away from the bar is now non-smoking. I know some of you guys will like that!

We were at the Blue Frog Cantina last night to play Trivia (apparently, they play every Thursday night) . While we played, we were able to have dinner. Unfortunately, I don't like Mexican food that much, so I don't think I'm able to judge very fairly. I had the enchiladas, which were okay. Some of the people at my table had food brought in in a really hot skillet (fajitas, shrimp with bacon) and that looked really good. Portions are big, prices are okay. If your with a group and in need for some Margaritas, you should ask for a pincher (15 dollars, against 6 for a big glass).
Winning Trivia and the nicest waitress ever (Stephanie) made up for the food.

Went here before a show at the Earl and came away very impressed. Excellent salsa and cheese dip sipped down with a tasty margarita got the night off to a great start. The fajitas and enchiladas (the standard for Mexican places) were both very above-average. If you are in EAV and want Mexican, I certainly recommend this over the other one down the street.
Because we were shut down on getting food at the Earl, my husband and I wandered across the street to the Blue Frog Cantina for a quick bite before a show. I'm vegetarian, and I was happy to see that they had some veggie options that didn't involve re-fried beans (which are usually made with lard, but not always). I got the veggie quesadilla, and was really pleasantly surprised. Quesadillas are usually greasy, but this one wasn't bad, and the veggies inside were seasoned really nicely.
My husband got a chile renello/burrito combination and was much less impressed. His meal was so salty that he could barely eat it.
The food came quickly, which was important to us. The waitress was super-nice.
I also got a frozen margarita, and it was strong (I'm a lightweight) but well worth the $4. I was pretty drunk for the rest of the evening (as mentioned, I'm a lightweight, and a cheap date!)
Overall, it seemed kind of hit-or-miss, but it seemed like a decent place to get reasonably priced Mexican food.

This place...lord. You know the sad part about this place is that the food is decent. Nothing spectacular, but it is a good price for decent food. But I have been a few times and the wait is aweful, the staff is forgetful, and half the time my food is wrong. I don't really care how cheap they make my food, if they can't get me seated and wait on me in a timely manner I have no use for you as a restaurant.

I don't find this place lame at all (unless you are really picky). Definitely go for $1 Taco Night ... its worth the price. This is not your typical Mexican joint, but is rather punkish/funky as is all of that area. I like the alternative ambience, with the Russian hostess and bitchy bartenders. The margaritas are decent, frozen is stronger. Service is hit or miss. Julian is one of the good ones if you can get him. I would recommend the pork taco ... it has a lot of flavor.
$1 Taco night has been discontinued. There are plenty of other delicious taco joints nearby. Please try one of those on Mondays. Just kidding! I love dollar taco night, but more and more people are onto it now and there is a wait if you get there during normal dinner hours. I really do like Holy Taco more, but $1 tacos and that delicious black bean dip have got me sold!

The Blue Frog is a hop, skip and a jump from my workplace, Champagne Taste Boutique. It's a pleasure to patronize a neighboring restaurant especially since they offer such fabulous Margaritas! Either frozen or on the rocks, my fav is their Pomegranate Martini. They have great weekday meal specials and speedy service! All of their flavored Margaritas are to die for!

I think that with some time and effort, Blue Frog could be much better. They have a great location and the potential to be a great spot to sip some margaritas and enjoy their small patio. Right now though, I think they need to adjust their prices a bit lower to correspond with the food that they're serving. It's not fine dining Mexican, but it's not something as dull as El Azteca et al. They need to find a middle ground still at Blue Frog.
For my money, it's not as good as La Casita down the street, but the empanadas are pretty tasty.

I give this place two thumbs way up. The first time I ate here Doug and I were saying that is was very similar to the food we had in Guatemala. The salsa is simple but addicting! Also they have killer margaritas. We love to sit at the bar area outside and watch all the people walking by. Also the Earl is right across the street and it is always an eye catcher.
Oh...their dollar night tacos are not so good but if you are eating cheap what more can you say?

Love this place. It is near home, which is super, but the food is great and the pomegranate margaritas are excellent. Love the salsa, great guac, and I've never had anything bad there. It has changed hands at least once in the relatively short time it has been opened, but I think is better than ever now (having retained the excellent bartender, Julie). They recently separated the smoking/non-smoking sections with a wall, which is nice. Try it...

I didn't order anything but drinks and chips, but here's my take.
My first "large" margarita was full of ice and very little else. It tasted okay, though. My next extra large was a frozen raspberry margarita. Finally, some tequila! It was really really good.
Chips, green and red salsas, and some cheese dip were my meal. Honestly, you can't mess that up.
Dollar tacos. That's what keeps me coming back to the Blue Frog Cantina. The service used to be atrocious, but I've noticed on recent visits that it has improved immensely. The margaritas are so-so, but I've had other cocktails that were decent. The salsa and soups are good, however, and the tacos are a good value (at least on Monday & Tuesday nights).

I love the staff - I love the location. If you are tired of crowded bars in the other little boros of Atlanta come here - but leave the pretentiousness at I-20 - they don't play that on the East Side. I've seen more than a few preppy types get slow service for slinging attitude.
Dollar taco night rawks - chips & salas are first rate.
Tip good and you'll always get the hook-up.
This place is very convenient for us and that is probably one of the main reasons we go back. I do like the dark atmosphere and the small outdoor patio. You can get a decent bowl of chips and salsa and a quick meal. For some the $1.00 taco night is a big draw, but I went once and felt like I would need to eat about $30.00 worth to get full. I think you are just better off ordering off the menu.

kewl clean bar with ok mex, Ceviche is like Pico de Gallo with large shrimp, so so, not really recommended. The salsa is good. Service is great, Menu is fair!
They have expanded their menu since my last visit and I am very excited about going back soon to try all the new items. They used to just have a couple of vegetarian items, but they have a whole veggie section with about 10 items to choose from. CHOICE! I have a CHOICE! I got the Vegetable Fajitas and they were much better than your typical Mexican restaurant. Everything was very fresh, prepared perfectly, and not sopping in oil. The waitress was very friendly and attentive and my bartender was fabulous as always. If she has big boobs and long blonde hair, you KNOW you are going to get a good drink! :-)

Good stuff, nice service. All the staff seem to be drinking it up so they are entertaining as well ;)

I was deeply saddened when Heaping Bowl closed, which was in the same location, but excited to see something new open after several months of vacancy. Much to my dismay, it was a mediocre Mexican resturant!!! I don't mind paying a little bit for good mexican, but if I want bad mexican, I will just drive to a more affluent part of town, and shell out my $10 for a ton of mediocre food. Here, the food is a bit more expensive than I think it can carry, but it is nonetheless. The margaritas are quite decent, that is unless you get the last one in the pitcher... then, it is mostly water. Sorry alcoholics! Other than that mediocre food, the inside of the place is really cool, and they have a giant frog statue that greets you when you walk in, and real palm trees outside. If the food matched the decor, they would have something... but sadly, it doesn't. If you want good cheap Mexican, go to Catina La Casita (which is just down the way behind Mary's). You will be happy you did.
UPDATE: The tacos make nauseous. Seriously. I can't help it.
