I confirm.  Just went to Blue Fin tonight, and it earned my first 5-star rating!!!  Quality and service-wise, it is so far the best sushi restaurants I have been to in the great Boston area, and trust me, I have been dining sushi everywhere I go, and this one is so far the only sushi restaurant I really enjoyed from the beginning till the end of my meal.

I ordered toro sashimi, and yes, they do have O toro, and that fact itself already sets Blue Fin apart from other run-of-the-mill sushi restaurants.  I also ordered eel sashimi, sea urchin, salmon roe, fly fish roe sashimi, with miso soup as starters.  Every order was fresh, in decent portion, and beautifully presented.   The sushi chefs, unlike in many other restaurants, are Japanese, not Chinese, not Korean, not Mexican, but Japanese.   Perhaps that explains the quality of the food.   The waitress and the sushi chefs are friendly, helpful, but not intrusive.   The place was clean, and the decoration homey.   The chef is obviously passionate about his work and appreciates someone who appreciates his food.   The chef even encouraged me to try a new sashimi dish that I didn't originally order, on the house!   How many restaurants would do that!

I ended my meal with great satisfaction, gladly left a big tip, and I will be sure to visit Blue Fin again soon enough, hungry for more.

For the North Shore, this place is as good as it gets.  The freshest cuts of fish, great service and nice decor.

My husband and I started w/edamame and seaweed (only) salad.  These were the perfect size apps for two to share.  The edamame was lightly seasoned and the seaweed was delicious.  The miso was also delicious- not overly salty, not lacking in seaweed or tofu, the right combination.  I like my miso mouth-burning hot, and this wasn't, but it still tasted good on a cool fall night.

We have had their chirashi in the past, which has been fresh and flavorful, and just as we were about to order that, I noticed the listing of the day's fresh fish for "The Big 10 Premium".  We decided to do something different and try this.  These were ten pieces of premium sushi that melted in your mouth.  Our 10 pieces included: unagi (fresh water eel), yari ika (spear squid), amaebi (sweet shrimp), kani (king crab), aji (horse mackrel), hamachi (yellowfin), blue fin tuna, and three others I wish I could remember.  All for $34.  We shared, and my husband's eyes were rolling in the back of his head each time he took a bite of one of the tunas, in particular.  I thought the fresh water eel was incredible, but I think the aji was my favorite.  I was excited to try the yari ika, but I couldn't taste it w/the rice.  I would love to try it again as sashimi instead.

Our service was great.  They advised making reservations, which was a good choice b/c even w/reservations we still had a bit of a wait (maybe 10 minutes tops).  Our server was fantastic!  Her name is pui, pronounced like "poi", so if you go, ask for her.  She was very attentive and informative.  Since we got something totally new, she described every piece for us.  Overall, she just had a nice vibe.

I really love sitting on the sushi bar side of the restaurant.  I particularly love sitting near the fireplace, which is this gorgeous modern stone fireplace.  The location is convenient, close to Routes 1 & 95, and it's on Route 114 West.  I look forward to going back soon.

Simply put, this restaurant is the bomb.

Went with the fam on a weekday afternoon, the place was almost empty, save a few patrons, but it was very clean and spacious.  They even have a private area.  The workers were very kind and friendly.  And you can see the Japanese cooks preparing your food from the table since there is an open kitchen as well.  Blue Fin is professional and modern, while still keeping authentic Japanese charm.

On to the food.  Careful!  The menu can be overwhelming for a newbie.  So many selections!  So we started out with a tempura platter appetizer.  Shrimp tempura= very delicious.  They also give you a salad and miso soup to start off with.  I didn't order sushi, because I was craving something hot, and I like to try something familiar when dining at a new restaurant, but the chicken teriyaki with noodles was very tasty.  My brother ordered some kind of a sashimi/sushi platter: the presentation looked fantastic.

My only regret was not getting desert.  That mochi ice cream looked real good.  And the food can be a little expensive, depending on what you order, but I guess it comes with the superb quality.

This was the first sushi restaurant I've been to where I had a hard time deciding what I wanted, because the menu was so damn big! We were celebrating a birthday so we had a private room for our group.  It was nice to see families and couples enjoying their food.

There were a lot of drink choices, ranging from wines by the glass to sake flights.  I had the pina colada which was very tasty and presented well.   I also had a sakejito which was fantastic! So sweet!

For our meals we did a combination thing.  We ordered some apps: tempura sweet potato,  fried chicken, chicken pan fried dumplings.  All were excellent!   We all also had miso soup which was so tasty.

For the meal, we ordered some non-sushi dishes in addition to the sushi dishes.  I had the boston, california and philadelphia rolls.  All were fantastic.  The super veggie roll was great too; really fresh.

Others at the table got veggie tempura meals, steak, scallops and a large bowl of sashimi.  There was definitely enough to take home.

For dessert, we got a variety of things.  I had the red bean mochi ice cream-so good!  Others had the green tea mochi, banana crepes and we were all given complimentary green teas.  Not usually a fan but I really liked this one!

I'd come back if I was in the area.  Service was great and we closed the place down (though it was Middleton and I don't know how lively it gets after 9).

Much better than the Cambridge location. Went for lunch today with a client (who is a regular there). The lunch box portions are big an tasty. We had a few pieces of Suzuki on the side which just arrived and was perfectly fresh.

Hostess was very friendly and helpful (we needed a quiet place to talk business). Service was unspectacular, but good. Decor is nothing special, but seemed clean.

Fat and happy ... and slightly buzzed with Sapporo. Will be back!

First of all, it's really hard for me to write a two-star review. I want to like every place I go into and am pretty much a "glass is half full" guy when it comes to dining out. I'm out, what's not to love!?!

But Blue Fin was disappointing. The room was noisy and lacked ambiance. The steamed shumai was tasteless. The fish on our nigiri was warm. Three strikes on one trip and you're out.

The lone bright spot was the service. Our waitress was amazing... exceedingly pleasant and right there at all the right times. But dining out is about the whole experience and the food fell way short.

I'm sorry Blue Fin, but I'm heading to Sushi Island in Wakefield for my regular sushi fix.

Just went here tonight for my friend's birthday and loved it.  I've only had sushi a few times before coming here, but I definitely should have tried this place first.

We ordered a bunch of appetizers to start off- edamame, these fried crab and something dumplings (I can't remember the name!), fried octopus (takoyaki) and miso soup.  The miso soup was very good, although it could have used some more tofu and scallions.  The edamame was pretty standard, but I much prefer it in a salad or in a dish and not alone.  The crab dumplings were very good, and served with a hot mustard paste.  I didn't try the takoyaki, but my friends enjoyed it.

The sushi was very good- fresh, well-prepared, and elegantly served.  I ordered the Crispy Spicy Tuna roll, which was just spicy enough but not too much.  The crispy bits were actually supposed to be tempura, but ended up being panko.  Either way, it was delicious.  Also, the soy sauce that they had was flavorful but not overly salty, which was a huge plus for me.

There is a full service bar, and plenty of sake.

I'm taking off a star for being on the expensive side for what you get.

I'll definitely be back though!

When you are eating at a Sushi restaurant and more than 50% of the clientele is asian you know you are in the right place.  Can't say enough about this place.  I visited for lunch with my cohort "The Matador".  He was the one who suggested it.  I have to give him credit because the place is hands down one of the better sushi restaurants North of Boston!  We ordered edimami, maguro maki, unagi maki, yellow tail sashimi and a host of other treats.  This place is a great choice for Sushi!

Blue Fin is my favorite Japanese restaurant on the North Shore.  Our family loves the place so much that we almost view the staff as our extended family.  While the decor may not evoke fine Japanese cuisine, the food does.  The sushi is incredibly fresh and the cooked dishes are top-notch.

The restaurant has a terrific kids menu (pick any 4 items for a set price) that doubles as a "coloring book" to keep the kids occupied.  For those of you with toddler-aged kids, this restaurant is sent from heaven.  Imagine bonafide ADULT food in a kid-friendly environment.  No, you don't have to get stuck at Chili's, TGI Friday's, or Friendly's every time you want to go out to dinner with the kids.

Unlike many of the other Japanese restaurants in the area, the sushi chefs at Blue Fin are all Japanese.  Not Korean, not Taiwanese, not Vietnamese, but Japanese.  I know for many of you this is insignificant, but for many sushi connoisseurs, this matters.

For those on a budget, I recommend hitting BlueFin at lunch.  The lunch specials are quite the value for what you get.  I've taken a recent liking to the Samma Mackerel lunch set, which features a whole fried mackerel--yes, head and all.  Yum!

A group off us had a girls day out for sushi. We decided to try Blue Fin (we're working our way through every sushi joint on the North Shore). The interior is bright and airy, the staff friendly (and attractive!), and the menu huge!
We started with edamame, crab shumai , takoyaki, and tako-su along with plum wine and Asahi beer. I think J-chan got a pommegranate cosmo.
The food arrived quickly and was so delish. Perfectly steamed edamame, moist shumai, crisp (not greasy) takoyaki, and fresh bright taku-su. Lovely.
Next we opted to share an assortment of sushi; spicy tuna, mackerel, sea bass, cali roll, ikura, spider roll, avo, rainbow roll, tobiko, hokkigai (surf clam), and uni(sea urchin). Also seaweed salad, sweet potato tempura, and unagi tempura.
Again, service was swift and the food both beautiful and delicious.
For dessert we got green tea ice cream and mochi ice cream. Mmmmm.
It is on the pricier end of the sushi scale but well worth it. The menu offered a ton of lunch and seasonal specials and I can't wait to go back and try more.

I've experienced much better.  Pretty pricey for what you got and both my husband and I did not feel well afterwards.

Great service and amazing sushi. My only complaint would be the price, which seems to have gone up a few times... but I guess you get what you pay for and if you're willing to pay well, this food is excellent!

I enjoyed the food Blue Fin.  I do not eat sushi, so I cannot comment on that.  They do not do teppanyaki (hibachi table).  I had a grilled dinner - garlic-lemon chicken, that came with garlic noodles, white rice, two fried potatoes, boiled carrots, and miso soup.  The chicken was delicious & it was fun (and funny) to eat big chicken pieces with chopsticks.  The miso soup was great as well.  The bf enjoyed his curry chicken (flavored with curry, not in a curry sauce).  Green tea is served after dinner.  I also had ginger ice cream for dessert, which was good (not that it's hard to mess up).  Service was friendly & efficient.  The decor is plain, not really Japanese inspired, and the flat screen TV in the dining room was showing sports.  I did find it odd that there was a TV in the dining area.  There is a separate bar area as well.

Nothing will get my Bear out of winter hibernation faster than Blue Fin's toro (fatty tuna).  It's expertly sliced into quarter inch thick, rectangular pieces.  Neither marble beef nor real marble ever looked so good.  Bear claims it's fresher than any served at Fugakyu, Oishi, or by way of company expense account while in NYC, and is worth every minute of driving to its Rte 114 location.

Sushi Sushi Sushi Sushi Sushi.. I dono what else to say.. I mean.. you go here with the intentions of havin' an authentic cuisine but you get to enjoy so much more.. if you want it that is.. The people there are absolutely amazing they wear cool lil outfits and even bow to you!! I mean.. C'MON!!!! THEY BOW!!! It's fun. The people are playful and pleasant and will let you get coked off their numerous Sakis... The decor is a little plain but the food is incredible.. I live in Malden and I don't even care about driving' 50 minutes in the snow down the highway in a blizzard to acquire the succulent savory Ika that makes me wanna turn into a fish. The boats are huge.. you'll spend maybe 50 bucks and feel as though you actually became a maki roll all while feelin' a nice buzz from the saki.. Great place to take a date and look like the man for knowing a great sushi place with a good selection of rice wine and Japanese beer. If you go be sure to bring me back something.
