Though the specialty margaritas were a little pricey (7.50-10) they were fabulous. Delicious and with the perfect amount of salt.
The dinners were also spectacular. First of all, I've never had black beans that I actually liked. The kitchen used a variety of unconventional herbs in their rice, and the chicken mole was fantastic. Everyone in my party loved the food, though one girl complained that the chips weren't as good (i.e. thin) as Chevy's.

I can't tell you how excited I am to find this place so close to our new place!
I loved Blue Agave. The ambiance was wonderful, the service was great and most importantly the food was amazing. The chile relleno appetizer was so good, and the enchiladas mole I had for my main course was fabulous. Their ensalada de casa was yummy and the chips and 3 kinds of salsa that they serve is awesome! Even the rice and black beans were perfect - and I'm not a rice and beans kind of girl.
I think it is important to note that this isn't a corny sort of Mexican restaurant - there are no sombreros all over the walls and there is not 'festive' music. This is a more upscale Mexican restaurant with complex flavors and real ambiance. If you're looking for a place with mariachi music or whatever, Blue Agave may not be a perfect fit for you.
Thank you Yelpers (especially Neal!) for leading me here!

This really deserves ZERO STARS. Maybe even a negative star, or whatever the equivalent of that would be.
- While the service was atrocious at Blue Agave, the food was none better. Basically, everything there is laden with so much salt you honestly cannot taste anything but salt after about two bites of food. Absolutely horrible food.
- Hostess was clueless as to how to seat a five person party arriving at 8pm in a relatively empty dining room (maybe two tables seated), and instructed us, after much waffling, that it would be likely a 45 minute wait. She offered to squeeze the five of us adults into a 4 person table. She then recanted and said an 8-person party canceled, so we were shown to a large set of pushed together tables for 8.
- Our waiter decided to cop an attitude upon seeing that we were only 5 people sitting at an 8-person table. Let's not forget that he would have had ZERO people at this table if it were not for our impromptu arrival. He didn't bring us chips & salsa until we requested it way after we were seated. He rolled his eyes when we ordered our margaritas. He completely forgot our orders and brought out the wrong meal for one of us. He ignored us when we asked for more water or tried to order additional drinks and even tried to flag him down as he walked by. He did not once check on us and we watched him check two other tables nearby.
- The owner was completely rude to two persons in our party, when one went up to the hostess to formally complain about our waiter's inattention to our table. Showing extremely poor customer service and sporting a pompous attitude, she escalated the situation rather than offering a solution to the problematic service. Any other manager or owner would promptly apologize (what happened to the old adage: the customer is always right?) and try to ameliorate the situation. Since we all know, one unhappy customer will tell all of his/her friends.
This unhappy customer is telling all of Yelp, too.

My girlfriend and I visited this restaurant on our first real date - she recommended it and I wanted to see some of her turf - so I gladly accepted the recommendation.
We both ordered Margaritas - it's been a long time since I've had a good Margarita - and these were delicious! We then ordered dinner - we started out with the Entremes Surtido for an appetizer assortment - Chipotle-shrimp corn cake, chicken flautas, chicken tamale, shrimp stuffed jalapeo, shrimp quesadilla, fresh guacamole, & salsa. For dinner she ordered a burrito - which turned out to be the biggest burrito I've ever seen - and I ordered the Paella. The shellfish in this dish was incredible! I wanted to eat more but I was stuffed!
Both were very good! We could not eat most of our dinner and made sure we got the remainder to go!
The ambiance of this place is very fun. There is an emphasis on a wide selection of tequila's. The place was a bit loud as everyone was enjoying themselves - it was a bit hard to hear and talk for a first date.
But overall, well worth it, delicious, and we will be back!
Went here this past weekend and was expecting a fun Mexican fiesta of music, drinks and cool people. Got drinks but honestly they aren't that good and at 8.50 to 10.00 a Margarita it can be a bit pricey. We didn't eat here only had drinks but the place wasn't filled with that many people, the floors were sticky and the music...it was nonexistent. We did ask the owner to put on some fun Mexican music....she reluctantly did so but we got major attitude. Plus the lighting was too bright and the bartender was sooooo slow. He did give us a free shot of tequila but that's as far as I can go giving him props.
The Margarita's are tasty, don't get me wrong but they are so mixed with not a fresh but a huge Jug of Margarita mix that it just made me think I'm drinking nothing but sugar. The selection of Tequila is very extensive and the menu was cool it gave you a little synopsis of what each Tequila was from and such.
I won't be back again...guess I'm spoiled living in NY.
The food was really quite good. The margaritas were good but not great. The salsa and chips were excellent, with two flavorful but not excessively hot salsas. The menu items, while not cheap, offer interesting variety, and the appetizer sampler had something for everyone.
What I found disappointing was the service. I spilled one of the three sampler shots a fellow diner in my party had ordered. The spill was more or less entirely my fault, not Blue Agave's. It happened right in front of the server, though, and I would have expected the house to offer to replace the spilled shot. Not required, not Blue Agave's fault it was spilled, but it wasn't a pricy shot and that would have been the classy response. The actual response was awkward. It took many reminders and stridency to the point of rudeness to prevail upon the server to supply glasses of drinking water to the table. While this rose to a level of humor (on each successive visit of the server, reminding "and could we have some water, please?"), on some level it was just silly. In general service felt slow and reminders felt if not were actually required to connect diners with requested items.
The drink menu wasn't up to date, featuring in some detail sangritas that aren't actually available. This is an example of how a dining experience falls apart: I wouldn't normally be bothered by this sort of thing, but once service felt problematic it was easy to become attuned to other problems.
Why three stars? My sister assures me Blue Agave is better than I would think from my single experience there and I'm open to giving it another chance.
EDITED: So it seems my tastes have changed. After living in California for 4 years, I have seen the light. As far as Blue Agave, well let's say it's not entirely as strong as I remembered it to be. The carnitas wasn't as buttery and consistently tender as my memory recalled, and most of the newer dishes I've tried weren't always strong.
The tequila selection is astounding, and the mixed drinks are strong (sometimes too strong). I'd give a half a star extra just for the great cadillac martinis.
All in all, Blue Agave has the potential to be great.. but as it stands, it's just good.
Wow. This upscale South American fare restauarant is truly fantastic. The interior is dimly lit but feels warm within the red brick walls, furnished with dark woods and crsip white linen tableclothes. The restaurant is split-level, with a couple bars and tables on elevated platforms. You are isolated enough that you get a sense of privacy, and are not conscious of surrounding parties.
The wine, mixed drinks, and cocktails were amazing. I ordered the pulled pork platter, which was slow-cooked to perfection. I highly recommend this place for a date or family affair.
Okay: very good service, nice atmosphere, good tequila list. So far, so good. Interesting menu, three kinds of salsa to go with the chips, all of them really good.
We ordered the chile relleno, which looked like a masterpiece but due to dietary restrictions we could not follow through. They took it back no problem (which they really didn't have to do) and we got the mussels instead. The best mussels I have had. Entrees were good, next time I will probably try a burrito. They looked mighty fine.
Not the cheapest place in town, but I would go back for sure.
