I stopped in for the Veggie Wrap the other day, and it was mmm.

I'll go back, but will be angry if they screw me a second time by sawing off the ends of my wrap.

I first went here when the vegan friends were in town.  Last week I returned with a fellow meat eater.  Two meat eaters went, without any vegan persuasion, to a vegan restaurant.  That should tell you something.
The hummus is definitely the best thing I've had here.  I think they called it "heavenly", or something.  It was.  Get it.  Even if you don't think you like hummus, get it.  I even liked the flax crackers that came with it.
My first visit I had a thai curry that was really good.  Sadly it was just a special that night and not part of the regular menu.  The second trip I had a burrito, it was pretty good.
I think it's a bit overpriced for what it is, but hey, it's a vegan restaurant in the pearl.  The upside is that this is real food.  It's healthy, and the best (and most surprising part) was that it kept me full straight through to dinner time, no meat (or even cheese!) necessary.

I guess I should have actually paid attention to what I had read about the place and stuck with a raw foods meal, but a place should be able to stand behind EVERYTHING on the menu...otherwise, it's mediocre at best and should stick to selling it's few "specialties" at a farmer's market or something.

I was really excited about trying it. I had researched a few options in Portland and this place sounded like a winner. I was amped to have vegan food in Portland - it's one of the best vegan cities in the world.

It was good. It wasn't just mediocre...it WAS really good, but it wasn't, like, mind-blowing or anything. I could have easily whipped it up at home, but it was nice that it was there ("It" was the Southwestern Warm Bowl...brown rice, steamed kale, vegan three-bean chilli, topped with vegan sour cream and avocado. It was good proportions - though I always argue that more avocado can always be had. It was good. Warm, flavorful...decent. I might or might not order it again if I went back.)

The selection was pretty "meh." I could have one of two salads, one of two sandwiches, a wrap or two, some warm bowl options...loads of sweets and desserts. I had a hard time choosing what I wanted because nothing on the menu really stood out and made me WANT it right away....which is odd: I hadn't had anything but oatmeal all day and I had been hungry for hours.

The ordering process was confusing. I didn't know where to find the FULL menu (not just the four "specials" of the day on the board above the register). It's very cafeteria-style, perhaps because it's not even in it's own space. It's a food-booth in a yoga studio warehouse. The eating space was cramped and the line for the counter wound it's way far too near any of the seated diners. (Though there were pleasant picnic-tables outside...and a park that I opted for just two blocks away.) The place was a little chaotic and stressing...not what I like accompanying an (overpriced, and I frequent these types of places often) meal of this (supposedly zen) style.

Overall, this place was fine. I might come back if I lived in the area...but I'll choose a better vegan place next time I'm in town.

holy shit this food is wicked good.
we got a bowl of wide flat noodles with a peanut ginger sauce and baked tofu, good amounts of fresh raw veggies to share.
They serve breakfast, and yes we will be back.

Let me preface this review with this:  If I hear that an establishment gives sub-par service with less than a smile, I usually simply refrain from visiting at all.

So even though I've been fascinated by the Blossoming Lotus's unique menu items, I just couldn't bear trying it out and possibly being treated as some of my fellow Yelpers have been treated!

...but then I decided to cleanse.  I'm sure you've all heard about it by now.  It's all the rage in Portland.  No chemicals; meaning no booze, no smokes, no lattes, and...no food?  NO WAY!  I just couldn't bear.  So I decided to go raw instead.  And after two days of fruit salad and avocado, I was SCREAMING for variety!  Help me!

That's where Blossoming Lotus comes in.  They blew my mind with creativity.  How about some live raw nachos?  Delish!!!!!  And how about a live raw stuffed orange bell pepper with sun-dried tomatoes, sunflower seeds and more?  Actually tasted meaty, it was unbelievable!  I broke down and ordered a vegan dish too, the BBQ tempeh sandwich, also delicious!  Rinse it down with a little Apple Lemon Ginger juice, and you're in hippie heaven!

$40 bucks later, Josh and I are stuffed to the gills with boxes of leftovers, waddling out of the place with looks of satisfaction on our faces!  And our service was good, but I'm knocking it a star cause there were people around us that didn't quite get the same experience.  My suggestion to anyone going to Blossoming Lotus is, "Don't go in a hurry".  Sit back, relax and enjoy the peaceful ambiance of the place, and the food will be more than worth the wait!

can i first say that i am a butcher and a hearty meat eater.

okay, lets start.
i effing love this place. though the service and space needs an upgrade. (no i am not taking my shoes off to stand in piss thank you very much.) (hey..hi..can i have my check?) lotus still stands as one of my favorites.

the two times i have gone there, i have been a little sad. knowing i would not be eating beef,  feeling a little cheated catering to my vegan boyfriend but everytime, i have left more then satisfied. full to the gills, as they say...and crazy happy.
i also watched the head chef (?) walk into the tiny, tiny dining area and smile hugely as the ten (?) fifteen (?) of us ate with utter indulgence.  it gives me confidence to see a chef take pride and love in his work.

all hail vegan, gluten free nachos!!!

I thought I reviewed this back in January when Eric C. and I first went there, but apparently I didn't.  Part of the reason I give this place 4 stars is because of that experience.  This most recent event might have only deserved 3 from me, just because I wasn't as happy with my food.

I had the Live Taco Salad for $10.  Their website menu describes this as "with romaine, bell peppers, tomatoes, scallions, avocado, live taco crumbles topped with a chili lime dressing served with our spicy nacho chips."   It might have been the dressing that didn't do it for me, but I still enjoyed the dish and loved that they put in an entire sliced half of an avocado into it.  The "nacho chips" were very interesting.

I've been hearing all kinds of chatter about this place's vegan soft-serve, so had to try it.  It was a chocolate/cherry concoction and the small portion was the perfect quantity after that salad.

It seemed the others at my table also enjoyed their meals.  We had just had some laughs at Harvey's Comedy Club, just a few blocks from BL.  This wrapped up the night nicely and the service and other employees within the Yoga studio and/or Cafe were nice and didn't shove us out the door when we finished and stuck around talking by the Yoga counter.

Will I get the Taco Salad again?  No.  Will I go to Blossoming Lotus again?  YES.  The BBQ Tempeh Sandwich and Tofu Roast special that they had the first time I came here were EXCELLENT.  I hope to bring my Vegetarian/Vegan Meetup group here in the near future, now that I have a better idea of what group size the restaurant can handle.  I'm looking forward to trying more items here.

Ouch man, the scowls of disdain at my leather bag are palpable. Why you gotta make me feel outta place even more than I already do, not having my yoga mat slung akimbo, nor super expensive though not looking expensive yoga wear/shoes/jewels. Yipes.

I felt less bad when my admittedly yogariffic friend with all the above accoutrements started throwing down f bombs about a movie she just saw, and how she didn't want the Kombucha to f'ing explode like it did in her car when she shook it. She got scowls too.

So that was the atmoshere, now to the food:
(as you read this, insert fawking after each dash)
Apple Lemon Ginger Greens juice - "" excellent.
Hand rolls - "" tasteless.
Spicy Avocado Sandwich with baked tofu - "" alright.
Live Pho with tofu - "" give me Pho Hung.

This spot falls into the places that are, for me, the conundrum of the Pearl, decent to good food - crap attitude.

The Blo Lo is the best vegan food around!!! The spicy avocado sandwich is my favorite, and the soft serve is heavenly. Seriously. The waitstaff is friendly and the atmosphere is soothing. It's a tiny place so expect to wait a bit during lunch or dinner hours.

They are close to five stars, I need to go back and try it a few more times before I knock it up but if you like food you need to go here.

Notice I did not say vegetarian or vegan food, just food - these folks are doing it right. Fresh ingredients and well thought out recipes made both dishes I tried a delight.

The BBQ Tempha sandwich was delicious - the bread was what made it and if I had any criticism it would be that the 'stuffing' of the sandwich got lost just a bit.

Savory Baked Tofu in a mushroom gravy with potatoes and carrots was the other dish and this was a 5/5. The perfect amount of flavor and spice. The only bad thing was that this was a daily special and not on the regular menu. Well on the bright side I will get to try something else next time.

So at first i really enjoyed this place. I am not a vegan or vegetarian but love all kinda of foods and flavors and was down to try a new restaurant. I just moved here a few months ago from los angeles, where if anyone wants to be treated like the loser in high school when you want to go out and eat go eat in L.A. The last thing i thought existed here in portland was that attitude. But the staff at blossoming lotus have managed to encompass that entirely. I must have carnivore or non vegan tattooed in ink that only vegans can read because i was treated so rude that past few times i have been in there.

FUCKING LAME.

don't eat there unless you have dreads and wear clothes that have'nt been washed in 10 years and you are a fan of bland tasting food. Because apparently thats the only kind of people they are nice to.

shame.

I had never eaten raw food before I went to Blossoming Lotus, and I was skeptical at first. Now when I go, I only order the "live" menu items. I'm amazed at how simple some of the food is, but the taste is so complex. I don't know if it's because of the freshness of their ingredients, unusual preparation techniques, or what.

My only disappointment was the service. It's not that the waiters are rude or bad at their jobs, it's just that the restaurant is really a cafe trying to be a restaurant. During the day, you order at the counter, pick up your food, etc and no one complains. During dinner, they serve you at your table, but they don't have any more staff than during the day when you're serving yourself, and the workers there aren't trained for that kind of wait service. So the service goes sloooowwwlllly.

Food:  I really enjoy the food here.  I like the rice/beans/greens bowls they have, especially the Macrobiotic bowl which also has veggies and seaweed but make sure to get the peanut or ginger sauce or it's sort of bland.  With the sauce its great.  The BBQ tempeh platter is great - with a cup of chili, cornbread, and salad.

Drinks:  they have really good homemade smoothies, juices, etc. but they are expensive.

Dessert:  Vegan soft serve!!!!! The flavor changes every day.  Every one I've had so far as been really good.  But they do run out from time to time.

Prices:  It is not cheap.  The BBQ tempeh platter is $10.  It is filling, though.  You will eat until you are stuffed or take home leftovers.

Atmosphere:  I don't take off my shoes when I use the bathroom even though the sign says to.  You do have to wait for a table at night, especially on the weekend.  It doesn't get too loud but many of the conversations we've been forced to listen to (the tables are very close together) have been agonizing.

Service:  In general, the staff is lukewarm at best.  Most of them are not very friendly.  The service is very slow.  I've never had to get my own silverware but you often have to get their attention to get what you need (menu, more water, etc.).  Every time I order a bowl, I get sauce on the side and every time I have to ask for the sauce after my meal arrives without it.  That stuff gets really annoying.  tThere's one guy who is really nice and smiles, etc. but everyone else seems really bored or depressed.

If the food weren't so good, the service would definitely put us off.  But since it is, we'll keep going back!

This place is where you go when you want to feel good about your food. Offering all vegan food with raw and live options, you know it's healthy. The daily soup comes in a raw and regular version, and is most likely amazing. The BBQ tempeh and garden vegetable sandwiches are awesome, and the raw nachos are something you must eat to believe. A vegan soft serve machine is the reason I want to go here everyday. The problem is that this restaurant is TINY. So no matter when you go, there will be a wait. Just keep that in mind, and head out before you are at the stomach-growling cranky hunger point.

This is a tough business to rate.  Is feels half way between a restaurant and street-side stand.  For those of you who don't know, the B Lotus is located inside a corner of Yoga Pearl Studios - open pint sized kitchen and all, they do turn out a few gems every once in a while.  If your thing is inconstently tasty organic vegan-vegetarian-raw food  - this is one of the few places for you.  Otherwise, get ready for a roller coaster ride.
The service plainly sucks.  There is really no service at all, except for someone in the front to take your order.  You have to get your own water, silver, and napkins - if you can find them.  Cleanliness in the kitchen and in the food service area is haphazard and questionable.  Yes, I can see the kitchen - but I really wish I didn't have to.
Prices are stratospheric unless you're on an all out diet (most of their patrons are)  But, by the time you order a simple soup and salad, you're up to $15 or more.  I can get better food at a real restaurant with more options and real service for the same or less.

I've just had the worst service experience of my life.  Words nearly fail me.  Fortunately, however, they haven't quite let me down entirely.

Let me paint the picture:  My wife and I are enjoying the last afternoon of an otherwise wonderful four-day trip to Portland from the Bay Area.  It's our last day, and we're looking forward to having what should be an excellent final meal before heading to PDX and skipping town.  It's 2:30.  We order a Southwest Bowl and a Live Pizza.  We wait.  It's now ten after three.

A pet peeve of mine is inefficiency.  Orders that were placed after ours have already been filled, and we have a flight to catch.  I tell the manager-of-sorts (probable title:  "Collaborative Workgroup Facilitator")  our predicament with every intent of asking for my money back.  He points to our food which has just been prepared and asks if we want it to go.  Of course we do.  I then watch as, and I couldn't make this up if I tried, one of the hippies pulls out two takeout boxes but, rather than putting our food in either, takes my order and transfers it to another bowl.  The manager sees me about to explode, turns around, and gently tells the moron that we wanted the food to go.  She giggles and says - again, this is all true - "I don't know why I just did that."  At that, I tell the manager that watching this is entirely maddening.  He looks without the barest hint of comprehension.  Unable to stand this anymore, I abandon my wife at the counter.  Fully five more minutes pass before our food actually makes it into containers and we leave for the airport.

To be fair, the food was delicious, but the staff is either thoroughly baked, dangerously protein-deficient, or amazingly stupid.  Nobody should have to deal with people like this.  "Blo Lo" indeed.

Let me first start by saying I'm a vegetarian... and LOVED the food.
When I got it to my hotel room... without any utensils. (thanks, dear.) I really enjoyed it... but I have to tell you all about how it went down...

The hippy dippy behind the counter was nice at first. Took my order. Paid.. Left a tip... Waited....and waited.

Decided to use the bathroom... and there was a sign (I supposed because they share the space with the yoga studio...) to take shoes off past a certain point.

The bathroom was past this point... and I thought to myself... someone must have moved the sign accidentally... surely they do not expect me to walk barefoot on a bathroom floor.

Uhm... they did!

Disgusting. Everyone in there was barefoot.... including a nasty girl with equally nasty feet (think black and greenish toenails and red swollen feet... )
Hell no.. I will not be taking my shoes off and exposing my dogs to that. They would bark!

Anyway... make my way past my fellow scowling bathroom patrons... and go to the restaurant area again. 15 mins have passed..

...and I literally ordered a salad and a miso soup. Since the cook started working on orders 3 people after me... I (nicely) asked if my order was ready. You would have thought I asked her to make me a steak. She gave me the dirtiest look.

The girl who took my order started talking to the cook and then they both gave me the dirty look.

Nice.

20 mins later.... my new best friends decided to give me my food.

So... I smile and come to my hotel room and write about my adventure...and there you have it.

Really cool place.  The resturant is located inside Yoga in the Pearl which is a yoga studio.  Its great to go here on a warm day, they open the garage doors so you get a nice indoor-outdoor feel.  Very casual, you order at the counter.  They have awesome home made soft serve and cookies.

A small and cosy place for Vegans! Menu choice is not extensive however, you can fill your appetite. I found the fruit juices/smoothies a bit pricy.

I will certainly visit this place again to try the various menu items but I find it hard to go there because of my meat loving friends who are not so keen on trying a vegetarian dish!

A totally organic vegan restaurant adjacent to a yoga studio?  Why can't we have one of these in Chicago?

Before coming to Portland, I did a bit of searching on Yelp for vegetarian places and this was one of the top spots.  Not surprising - the food was delicious.  I had a difficult time deciding what I wanted between the sandwiches, salads, soup, special of the day.  It's a rare thing when I can eat everything on the menu!

I wound up with the BBQ tempeh sandwich and was not disappointed.  It comes on spelt bread (I don't think I've ever had spelt bread before but I would definitely try it again).  Seriously, I wanted to buy a loaf of this bread to take home.  I also loved the BBQ sauce on this.  These are exactly the kind of vegetarian-friendly meals I like - those that allow me to indulge in BBQ and remain meatless!

Next time I come here (whenever that may be), I would go for one of the bowls, as they all sound really good.  They also have some cookies and fudge on display which looked tasty, but I was way too full.

Seriously, can we get one of these in Chicago?  Pleeeease?

I live close by and this is my favourite place to hit up as a default when I can't make up my mind what to eat.  Get the tempeh wrap!  Ask for the special of the day, I had a penne dish once and it was delicious.  Perfect sharing too!  Their menu changes according to the season.  In the winter they have the Tofu Pho Rice Noodle Soup Bowl, delicious!  If you don't want something light but not salad, get their Live Raw Pasta or meatloaf.  If you want something small, get the stirfried $3 tofu and a small cup of soup (it comes with a spelt or corn bread, the corn bread is the best!).  Save some room for dessert.  Get the $1 2oz softserve (changes daily) or go something fancy like the raw pecan tart or the carrot cake.

i would have given 2 stars for the service, but the food is phenomenal and mostly makes up for it. i've met Bo Rinaldi, and he is a really sweet, intelligent man who just wants to spread the vegan message that is Love. but i've never seen him at the store.

instead, the chefs/servers are either completely out of it or completely rude- cant tell which one. yes, it takes a while to get your order, even if there is no line. and yes, when you get your order there is probably a 60% chance it will not be exactly what you asked for.

still, i have to say BL is one of my favorite places! i love the building, great feng shui, i love that the restroom is really clean, and i love the fountain. most of all, the food rocks. the raw fudge is to die (or Live!) for.

It's a rare treat for a vegan to stare at a large menu and be faced with too many decisions, and such was the case here. Other people have broken down the menu options on here, so I won't bother with that. I don't remember what I ordered, but it was tempeh something, and it was outstanding.

Yes, it's part of a Yoga studio, and I was afraid that this place would be all hippy-dippy and over-priced, with the usual piss-poor service, but everyone working here was reassuredly normal, friendly and the prices were very fair (certainly lower than I expected).

Vegan has never tasted so good.

Blossoming Lotus uses the freshest ingredients to concoct the most delicious healthy food I've ever had.

The tofu-avocado sandwich is among the best sandwiches in Portland, and their bowls are especially tasty too.  Check out the menu for vegan guilt-free desserts.

The only weird thing is that Blossoming Lotus shares its space with Yoga in the Pearl, and for some reason you have to take your shoes off to use the restroom.

This restaurant is groundbreaking in the fact that they are serving only vegan and raw dishes.  So good you will be surprised you're eating the cleanest food around!  The also have a phenomenal cookbook that has been huge help for ideas for both vegan and raw dishes.  I personally find the cramped space a bit claustrophobic as it is also quite warm in there but will gladly swing by for take out anytime!

I'm not going to lie to you, hanging out with vegan friends can be spotty. However, sometimes you encounter a pleasant surprise.

Blossoming Lotus has absolutely delicious foods, & unbelievable organic smoothies & juices.

However, minus one star for the attached yoga studio. That was a little new-agey for my tastes.

For vegan delicacies, visit the Blossoming Lotus.  They've got a variety of delicious an innovative foodstuffs to make the palate of vegans and non-vegans alike very happy.  You won't miss the animal products when you eat here.  Definitely try the desserts-- they're incredible. This place is pretty tiny, though, so plan on eating your yummy food someplace else.

"Omigod! Do you want to eat here? You know.... it's...vegan!" Yes, ladies and gents, it's vegan. It's also really yummy. If you're still surprised that vegan food can be delicious, you can grow up now. And if you need to be convinced, go ahead and try their spicy avocado sandwich, cashew hummus, tempeh fajita, or raw pasta, oh and don't leave before you get the soft serve for dessert. Just don't make a huge deal over it: overcoming ignorance is great, yelling about it is annoying.

Oh, one caution though, the cafe IS in a yoga studio, and at my last visit, a gross, gross man wearing only black biker shorts scared the hell out of me. (He was on your team, btw.)

I enjoyed my tofu-avocado sandwich, cashew hummus and crackers, and the split-pea soup; however, the menu was much more extensive and interesting at the Kauai restaurant.  Since Blossoming Lotus started in Portland and expanded to Kauai, I was not expecting a mini-cafeteria.  Where you feel like you're having something special and almost exotic in the Kauai location, the shared space here gave the food an average *health food* quality and made it more difficult to swallow.

The food is still good, though -- and good for you.  Do come and partake of as much of it as you can before booking your flight to Hawaii.

This is the place that finally answered my question, what IS live food? Vegan schmegan, this was a whole new level, and I was nervous. Live noodles? I was an apprehensive little veg, but it turned out to be one of the best quick dinners in a long while, and on the cheap too. Yummy sauces, teas, salads, friendly staff make the food here 5 stars. This is a little slice of veggie heaven, and a great place to take any skeptics who don't think they'll enjoy vegan food.

So where'd that fifth star go? Minus one only because it is in a yoga studio with a planter box and water feature which makes it feel slightly like an upscale (and very zen) food court. But before I get snobby, let me admit that the prices are basically food court and there's no complaining there, and it beats the (yoga) pants off the other cheap (read: tater tots) options in that area.

After leaving here I went to a show at a smoky bar and drank spanish coffees, but the live noodles had me feeling like I'd done a quick Vinyasa session. Next time I might take my mat and actually go to a class and eat live noodles, and then I might feel good enough to just fly home!

Upon completion of a 200 mile bike ride from seattle to portland I bullied all my friends into going to eat at bl. I really wanted soft serve.
I am afraid this evalution may be slightly colored by the fact that I hadn't had real food in two days and had been on my bike for 14 hours. It was pretty good though. I ordered green tea soft serve, tofu avocado sandwich with garlic aoli and split pea smoked tofu soup. I also tried my friends pesto bowl which was the special and the accompaning salad. I devoured it voratiously and ate until I felt like vomiting. So obviously I can't complain. I felt like it was not *quite* as good as seattle's chaco canyon, but they did have soft searve so maybe that brings it to a tie. Plus I liked that it was connected to a yoga studio. It was also cool that spelt bread was the standard option on my sandwich as opposed to wheat.
I wanted to rate it 4.5 stars, but 5 will work. I feel like I need to go back and try some of their raw foods to really know how I feel. Plus maybe when I am not so hungry I'll be able to eat my food slow enough to taste it.
Great service provided by my cute friend jordan. Make sure to tip him big if he helps you out! ;)

Yum.

Vegan
Tasty
Not bad to put in your body
Well priced - or even wonderfully priced!

Yeah - it is a lunch spot... yeah - they've had growing pains getting used to the busy bunches of customers and weirdos from the Pearl.... but the food is really good and the staff has always been very nice to me.  The soft serve is the best vegan soft-serve that I have ever enjoyed.  A little on the healthier side, but that doesn't mean less-tasty by any means.  The seating and service changes so look out.  Sometimes they are only open for aps - sometimes it is table service.  You do have to sometimes be a little pro-active with the ordering, but I don't think it is as bad as the review about the soft-serve below - or maybe she had a fluke.  I think the facility is very well maintained and clean, unless they are very busy (as with most restaurants).  You are supposed to bus yourself if it is not table service so that may be confusing to some.  Point is - in the grand scheme of it all a little dingy service on the rare occasion isn't so bad for the good food and nice atmosphere and lovely price!

Try the avo sandwich that has a little spice.  Or the stir-fry with noodles instead of rice.  Or, the live noodles - so good and great for you! The tempe fajitas are lovely too... I believe they were fajitas...

A great little vegan lunch joint!

PS - it is a dream sitting outside when it is nice out.

Wow! Tasty affordable vegan food?!
So, sometimes it's a challenge for me to walk away from a vegan meal feeling 100% satisfied & even the slighest bit full. But, indeed, after our meal I felt very round and blossomy.

I wish SF had some veggie places like this- actually INEXPENSIVE and deliciously fresh! We tried the Cashew Hummus, Tempeh Fajita, and the Spicy Avo Sandwich. All amazing. Each only $6.00?!!!

And it's within a yoga studio - aaahhhhh.
CRAZY HEALTHY PORTLANDIANS- I LOVE YOU!

Overall, this is my new favorite place to eat in Portland.  Now, don't be nervous when you hear both vegan and raw.  This place executes both with incredible results.  Even I, after more than a decade of vegetarianism was a little apprehensive at first.  One too many trips to the run of the mill hippie kitchens has left me a little jaded.  After one visit I knew I would be back, often.  The raw selections would satisfy even the most skeptical, the flax crackers and nut hummus are worth the trip alone.  Get the agave lemonade, it is oh so refreshing on a warm Portland afternoon.  Sizable portions, very reasonably prices, and friendly staff.  Get yer granola on!

I had a nice cozy lunch.  The food was filling and tasty.  I ate the other half of my sandwich for lunch the next day.  Usually I get the hiccupps from thick bread but that didn't happen here.  This is a place I would feel comfortable eating alone at.
