So I'll be honest, I rarely shop here because I shop a lot at Nordstroms and if I do start shopping here a lot, I feel like I'm going to be in some serious debt. But, I do love this place!
Their jean selection is just out of this world! They have so many different kinds of jeans. I swear they have like every single kind!
However, I feel like I don't receive the best customer service here. Every time I need to ask someone about something I feel like I have to go on a hunt just to find someone who works here. Maybe it's because I'm young and they probably think I won't buy anything but hey, no need to hate, I just need help with some jeans!
Other than that, this place is really beautiful. I love the signature black and white checkered floors and all the nice designer brands. Hopefully, I'll become so rich that I'll be able to buy this whole store like its nothing.
Ok, seriously, I don't normally do this sort of thing, BUT today, this afternoon, a mere hour ago, I spent...five hundred and forty two DOLLARS on a pair of boots. I am fucking crazy. From the moment I walked into Bloomingdale's, I fell under the spell certain department stores are known to cast. Shiny, waxed marble, Jo Malone scents, pearly white smiles and big, hopeful eyes from the store staff. I just COULDN'T say no. That, and the fact that my shopping partner is a complete bitch (shoutout to Lizzie G from London) and drooled over the boots...thereby making them all the more desirable.
How amazing are they? I took them off my feet, walked away for a second, and when I came back, Lizzie mentioned the boots were flirting with her. I'd be remiss to not join forces with flirtatious footwear so we can break hearts together.
If you want to spend a lot of money, go to Bloomingdale's - they currently have an amazing boot selection. The sales guy was slightly pushy and gave me the whole "I'd tell you if they didn't look good" story, but it didn't matter because I'm in love, and love is totally worth $542.
I happened to approach Westfield San Francisco Centre from Mission Street and so had to go through Bloomingdale's; while there, I sought out a bathroom and located one on the bottom floor in the kid's section.
It was clean, well-supplied and empty.
The fact that it was stylish was of secondary importance, but I loved the white subway tiles. There are multiple stalls and sinks in a design with ample space. My God this is good!
The espresso machine and coffee section is nearby, right next to the kid's section, worth a look.
Thank you Bloomingdale's, you're my new bathroom connection.
OMG. I'm the true SHOP-A-HOLIC, the real life little girl with the green scarf...I feel empathy with Rebecca Bloomwood! Everytime I step into a mall and walk by the window dressings, the MANNEQUINS talk to me, too. They seduce me with their shiny leather and soft fabric and tantalize me with the 4 letter WORD that ALL (well, most) WOMEN love to read...S A L E...OMG, it IS better than sex...and during Lovefest...when all of my fellow San Franciscans were out making love in the streets and cavorting around in their furry costumes...I was in BLOOMIES signing my life away to Nanette Lepore, Alcia+Olivia, Steve Madden, Burberry, Ella Moss, Dolce & Gabana, Oliver Peoples and...YSL *SOB*....I am so weak!!!! Now I officially need a 12-step program...or my own Luke Brandon....

The skies parted, the angels sang and then, there was Bloomies. Yes, I returned from my 4 month… Read more »
I just have to mention how disappointed I am with the service I received at Bloomingdale's on Sunday in the denim department. I was looking for a new pair of jeans for over an hour and a half and NOT A SINGLE employee greeted me, acknowledged me in any way, asked if I needed any help, offered to start a dressing room for me (even though I had 10 pairs of jeans in my arms and was having trouble browsing), or checked in with me in the dressing room to see if I needed a different size, etc. This was unbelievable to me. Shocking actually! For the cost of the clothing in this store, I would expect more. I think I need to shop elsewhere next time for jeans. I'm willing to pay the pricey tab for the clothes, as long as I get great service. Again, really disappointed.
Dependable for Christmas/Birthday gift shopping. More $ than http://Amazon.com, but staff are great.
Decent merchandise only when they have decent sales.
Hopefully some of the dumb ass sales shits will get fired as the recession takes its toll.
It would be great if some of the smug little sales shits got fired and couldn't pay their rent and ended up on the streets. It'd be great but I never get what I want for Christmas. :-(
Bloomingdales is owned by Macy's, Inc. & opened in 1861 by Joseph &d Lyman G. Bloomingdale in Manhattan's Lower East Side in New York City.
They started out basically selling hoop skirts until 1872, when they began to carry a variety of garments such as ladies' skirts, corsets, "gent's furnishings", & European fashions.
In 1930, they joined w/ Federated Department Stores, now Macy's, Inc. Their expansion did not really boom until the 1980's, followed by a period of finacial problems.
Bloomingdales is well-known for it's distinctive brown shopping bags, available in "little", "medium", & "big". The look is also used for it's line of vinyl purses/bags.
The san Francisco store, along w/ the Costa Mesa one were amongst the company's most successful openings.
The SF store is pretty large, w/ lounges adjacent to the restrooms available on each floor. The Lower level restrooms are located in the Childrens' section & require an associate's key for admission for the mens.
While it is an upscale department store, the prices are at suggested retail, not jacked up beyond that. And the black-clad employees are plenty & friendly. Sometimes I think too plenty, during slower shifts.
The store displays are tend to be simple but eye-catching & shows that the display artists are enjoying what they are doing. On the men's floor, there can usually be found the expert artistry of someone who is amazing w/ drawing w/ chalk.
Santa's Yelper sez: "Nice shop, nice employees, nice restrooms! Wee!"
You know, I must admit I was a little surprised but I love this store. Everyone that I have dealt with here has been sweet and helpful. They have a great selection of Women's clothing, particularly dresses. I have found both casual and cocktail dresses here - my biggest problem has always been picking one rather than even finding one (which I find can be an issue at many places). They certainly can be pricey but on the other hand they have some good sales and not everything is as expensive as you might think. Plus, when you're out to splurge, where else could be better???
I am a Bloomingdales girl.
Meaning, if I had an unlimited credit card limit, I would shop here daily. Hourly if they would have me.
Chanel, La Mer, Gucci, Prada, Lamb, all my favorite brands under one roof.
And everything is always better with something new and shiny on isn't it?
Of course it is.
This store is amazing. The selection is incredible, the staff is super well trained and helpful and nice, and you always walk out feeling like a brand new person. I love coming in here, because I always almost leave with something new and I always leave feeling on top of the world. Even if I didn't buy anything on that particular visit. It's as if walking through the store just puts you in a happy state of mind! I know the men reading this review are puking. It's okay. You guys have your stores, and we women have ours. And this is it.
Oh how I love thee! When I start making that scrilla full time, it's just you & me. When I was in middle school & high school I loved going to the Bloomingdale's in Palo Alto & thought it was the best department store ever. This Bloomie's makes the Palo Alto location look like a shunned stepsister. It's five levels of designer goodness..my shopping playground!
I've been here several times for the past couple years, and I never really get acknowledged..this is one of my pet peeves, maybe also because I used to work at Nordstrom where you're supposed to greet a customer within 30 seconds of them walking into your department. One shopping trip though, one girl was super sweet & took the last pink Primp thermal off the mannequin for me (her suggestion). And on my last trip in the little LV boutique part of the handbag section, the saleswoman was nice by greeting my bf and I in the first minute of looking around, but seemed like she got confused when I said "Speedy 25." The selection definitely beats Nordstrom any day, which can make up sometimes for the staff they may be around somewhere or non-acknowledging.
My darling Bloomie's,
I can't wait to see you soon. Oh how I've missed you. Until we're reunited once again I'll be thinking of you.
xoxo,
Cat
**EDIT** 6/8/09--Stopped by this weekend & bought a cute top on sale..but anyways Christo at the Space NK counter in cosmetics is so sweet & doesn't put on the sales pressure..in fact he gave me a few samples to try!
I'm not quite sure which is more traumatic: shopping for jeans, or a complete rectal examination.
After all, both are ass-related, and while the rectal exam is slightly more invasive, at least I don't have to look in the mirror while it's happening. Like I said, tough call.
It's a fact of life; whether we're talking about rectal polyps or Rock and Republics, a little solitary introspection about one's ass can turn into a downward spiral of self-doubt, Captain Morgan, and Entenmann's chocolate cake (or so I've heard). And while attempting to endure either journey alone may be dangerous, the last person most women want along for the ride is a really cute, really slender woman in perfectly fitting jeans.
But there's an exception to every rule.
Meet that exception: Bryce Ballinger-Sarabia, Bloomingdale's Sales Associate.
A few months ago, after enduring taunts from my teenage niece about my proclivity for wide-legged hippie jeans, I threw caution to the wind and prepared to leap into 2009 in a pair of *gasp* skinny jeans.
(I was scared. Very scared.)
I decided to shop for my jeans at Bloomingdale's because I had a gift card and, more importantly, because ummm HELLOOOOO it's is SO FUCKING AWESOME!!!!! Anyway, it took only a few moments of me flipping through the racks to be approached by a friendly, helpful Bryce.
"I'm thinking of getting some skinny jeans, " I told her. "Problem is, I'm not sure I'm allowed to wear skinny jeans."
"EVERYONE," Bryce asserted, "is allowed to wear skinny jeans."
Those are some dangerous words, especially coming from a lean, lanky lady who was rocking the SJs hard herself. If I were able to raise an eyebrow I would have, but despite many years of honing my ironic facial expressions, I can't seem isolate the eyebrow muscle. So instead, I released my fears and doubts and gave the whole thing over to Bryce.
My ass was in her hands.
For the next half hour or so, Bryce was my personal denim consultant, motivational speaker, and life coach. Bryce tackled all my issues-- the Muffin Top, the Love Handles, the Butt Cleavage. Not even the dreaded Camel Toe was too daunting for SuperBryce. She had an answer to all of them.
After multiple trips back and forth with multiple brands and multiple cuts and multiple styles, Bryce finally found the key to my cryptic ass riddle. Turns out J Brand trumps colonoscopy after all.
These jeans did something quite magical when it comes to my bootay. With a bit of cotton and lycra spandex, they transfomed my squishy posterior into something so firm and delicious, I found myself scolding me for getting just a little too fresh with my own ass. KEEP YOUR HANDS TO YOURSELF, YOU DIRTY, DIRTY TSADA!
Bryce did such a spectacular job matching my butt with its designer soulmate, I returned a couple of months later to have retail's answer to Annie Sullivan work some more denim miracles for me, this time in black. She found me two gorgeous pairs of onyx-dyed Joe's (one cropped, one long) that fit better than any jeans I've owned in years. My ass couldn't ASSpire to anything greater.
Pants off to you, Bryce!
I must admit that my addiction to Jeans is need of a major intervention. I wish I could wear jeans @ work everyday and to the person that came up with the idea of "Casual Fridays", to you, I will forever be grateful...
Though I've always been a Nordies girl, Bloomies' Denim Dept. is by far my fave place to go for a pair. I mean, you walk in there and it's like a sea of denim. Everywhere you turn, all you see is blue! blue! blue! They have 7 For All Mankind; Joe's Jeans; True Religion, Burberry; Citizens Of Humanity; DL1961; Hudson; Rock & Republic; etc and their selection for each brand is outrageous!!
The best part for me besides the selection is the Customer Service. I remember really wanting a particular pair of Joe's and 7's and didn't know the name of the style. I called Bloomie's to see if they had it and Mikey Garcia (sales associate) pulled the ones that they did have and tried his best to describe the fit and the color to me over the phone. He was so adamant in making sure that the ones he had were infact the pair I was looking for, he asked for my cell # so he could take a picture of it and send it to me. When I did decide to drive to the city to check them out, he was very attentive and provided me with the best service. He also suggested a few other pairs that were similar in color and style... So yes, if I could clone him, I would or at least have him work at all of my favorite stores which would be wicked awesome but then I'd go broke cause I'd buy everything he sells me.
Anyhow, I would definitely drive to Bloomie's in SF should I have the urge to buy another pair of Jeans I don't need.
Don't get me wrong, this place is nice and relatively huge, and they carry enough nice things where I could easily drop thousands on any given day. I go here everytime I'm in the Union Square area.
Service is inconsistent though, and I've encountered at least one pompous douchebag in the men's department. I also don't like how they seemingly dropped engineered garments. Their casual shoe selection could also use some refinement. And they waste too much space in their young men's area with gear you could cop at nordie's.
if only they could pair bloomie's space, with barney's inventory and nordstrom's service. Then I believe you would have the perfect storm of an upscale department store. With that said though, the space is one of the nicest I've been in, for a department store. And if you shit on cash, there are some extremely nice things to be had in the men's department. $1700 Burberry Prosurm tweed blazer anyone?
I love this store! My friend works here, and always lets me know about sales and friends and family discounts. Besides her being a great sales person, the ppl here are really nice. I usually know what I'm going to buy so I like to be in and out. Every time I've been here it's been a good experience.
I bought some Calvin Klein boxers here during the private sale for 5 bucks because it was the only thing I could afford.
I could see why the ladies get shopping boners here because it's a pretty nice department store; bright, spacious, and massive selection.
Bloomingdale's is an upscale version of Macy's. You can expect quality products. Equally, you can expect to pay for that quality as well with the exception of the sales that occur shortly after Christmas and Black Friday (day after Thanksgiving).
Excellent brands, quality unique items, and beautiful gift wrapping.
Ambiance: Excellent setting. Multi-story. Nice color composition and layout. Very "White" sheeky/trendy feel to the entire store.
Customer Service: This is where I have to give 3.5 stars versus 4 stars. I've even had somewhat snobby customer experience from this place. For instance, the gift wrap service upstairs have some snubby people working there who can be more helpful when it comes to handling customer questions or directing me to the right place to obtain an answer. I did, however, receive excellent help with a pair of jeans (Seven's) I bought from awhile back in the Women's Section.
-- Customer Service @ Mac Counter: Nice products, good location near escalators near store, but so so customer service. I waited and waited for my MAC items. It took them a long time and I felt totally ignored as I watched the girl that day help another customer when I was never greeted or helped despite being there the longest among all the customers at that very moment.
Prices: You get what you pay for- the famous line many of us have heard. It's quite true. Expensive yet excellent quality, unique clothing, and some famous designer brands. I love when they have sales because it makes the place more affordable.
TIP: look out for the clearance/sales that runs alongside the "Monies" promotion where you get B Money aka bloomingdale's monies (credits) to spend at the store. It's nice to get that on top of the additional X % off. To make the deal sweeter, I also like to shop around Christmas season when the mall is usually running some promotion for the gift cards that you can also purchase and utilize at this store). In addition, there is usually some type of promotion for VISA signature card holders. For instance, last year was the Starbucks Card deal where every $150 you spend, you get $10 dollars from Starbucks for simplying utilizing your VISA Signature card.
My Favorite's: I LOVE the post holiday shopping at the basement level. I love the fine chocolate and holiday goods. In particular, the 50% Godiva items especially the chocolate pretzels. Bloomies also sell their own gourmet food items and these are 50-75% off after Christmas. They always say that the items will only go to 50%, but with the economy as it was this year, the items eventually went to 75% with a decent amount of items left this year. Normally, not a lot of stuff is left when Godiva hits 75% at Bloomies. For fans of Juicy Contour, sometimes they have some excellent % offs and deals for their wallets and bags (I've seen some at around 40% off).
Parking: Westfield has parking though I've never used it. I always park at Metreon or I just take public transit. BART (Powell St. Station) and Muni (e.g. 5, 38, 31, 21) easily gets to the Westfield Shopping Center.
I'm like a little kid in a candy store when I come here...I am so glad they have one in SF....went to the on in NYC around new years and spent hours in there.....so its nice to have one within driving distance!
I came in here looking for a purse and I was not really sure what I wanted (I went to the LV store in union square and the sales people were snotty so I came here instead) I ended up buying a Marc Jacobs bad and I love it! The sales ladies were very nice and helpful.
I will admit - I had been shopping for hours that day (damn shoe stores all through the city) with my little brother who was from out of town so I was not dressed up and I probably did not look like I could afford anything in the store but they were still nice!
They also have some great sales - got a cashmere sweater for dirt cheap right after Christmas.
I don't generally shop in large department stores, but they have the best selection of hard-to-find designer jeans that I've come across in San Francisco to-date, and a very knowledgeable and patient jeans expert named Olga who really knows her stuff. The store is also well-organized.
There was an overly pushy shoe saleswoman who did turn me off on buying a great pair of boots because she made me feel really pressured, but the jeans experience really made up for it and then some.
The Theory department was awesome!! Seth not only 'just set up' my dressing room, he matched and hung up the outfits and brought stuff I totally liked in. It was so much fun to try everything on and get all the advice and tips. The rest of the sales people were also super nice and helpful. They suggested tings and weren't fighting over me for commission or anything. I had such a great experience and ended up going home with a hot pair of leather striped riding pants. Theory is awesome, but these sales people made it fabulous!
Bloomies needs to teach their workers a lesson or two in customer service. I swear I will never give them my business ever again! The workers here are straight up snooty...sizing you up as you walk through the giant doors. As if my outfit will tell you how much I can spend??? Whatever, I can get over that point cuz Saks and NM do the same exact thing. But my complaints are aimed at the Mac counter. Ok story time...
My first encounter: I only went to Bloomies b/c I had a $50 gift card. I bought about $100 worth of product. So I paid the rest of the balance due on my credit card. As I'm walking out the door, I looked at the receipt and I realized that I was overcharged for a product (I know my Mac prices). Then I checked the box, and the lady sold me the wrong product. I specifically asked for the face primer w/o spf. But she gave me the primer w/ spf (which is more expensive). I went back to ask for an exchange and refund. BUT the lame salesperson said I can't get a refund onto my credit card b/c part of the transaction was paid for with a gift card. So my only option was to get $5 back on a new gift card. UGHHHHH!!! Nordstrom would have paid me back in cash and apologized!
Second encounter: I purchased a bottle of primer. I went home, opened it, ready to use it...then I realized that the bottle had product smeared all over it. So I had to go back the next day (wasting my time and energy) to exchange it. The salesperson made some lame excuse that the opening was still sealed, so it was not used. I said its apparent that it has been used b/c the bottle has product smeared on the outside. And that there were 2 return stickers (meaning this product was returned and then resold to me!). I didn't care if I made a scene...at least the other customers knew how lame they are. Finally, my purchase was exchanged for a new one. I know that the Mac counter at Nordstrom has a policy that all returned products will be sent back to the factory (regardless if it was used), and not resold like that.
Overall, save your time and money...don't shop here! They need to go ask Nordstrom for some advice in policy and customer service!!!
Dear Bloomingdale's,
I pretend to hate you. In fact, I feel an intense attraction to you. I know you cost so freaking much that this attraction makes less sense with each passing day. But your floor of dresses, all dresses, nothing but dresses, made me weak with lust, indecision and greed.
I sourced exactly one sensible gift through you. Barely escaped with my dignity, that night. Since then I can not stop thinking about you.
At what point are you and I going to call a truce? It's not like it would take much from you. I don't even really know if I want a SALE (those are so -- proletarian. I'd hate seeing you that way). Give me a wink. A nod. A latte. Something ... so I can drop this pretense, fall gratefully to my knees and lick your shiny floors.
Come on, Bloomie's. Let's stop messing around and just DO THIS.
Slavishly yours,
Anne B.
MAINSTREAM FRAGRANCE SELECTION WITH FRIENDLY CUSTOMER SERVICE
This store always reminds me of the East Coast and I like the modern feel and helpful staff. This time I dropped in with a friend who is addicted to fragrances. I like shopping with him because he can always figure out the notes in a fragrance.
I have to rave about the sales clerk, Angela, she was absolutely amazing! Angela was not pushy and her knowledge of fragrances was impressive.
Aqua Di Parma
After smelling dozens of fragrances, my friend decided to purchase Mirto Di Panarea by Aqua Di Parma. The description of the fragrance said it captured the wild spirit of an exclusive island in the Mediterranean. All I know is it smelled like lemons and oranges combined with herbs, a great summer fragrance.
The women at the Clinique counter can learn a thing or two about customer service. One girl was helping me and in the middle of our order she went to help some guy instead. Couldn't she wait till we were done? I guess not.
They earned three stars today cause I like the free gifts. And Mary at the concierge desk rocks! We love her.
Things to like about Bloomingdale's:
-the bathrooms....spacious, classy, in an olde world department store way
-the dressing rooms-see above, with a shelf to put your purse on, enough room to pirouette, and various hook mechanisms
-the tissue paper they'll use to wrap your purchase in before putting it in one of their signature brown bags
-the housewares dept....more robust than you might think, and prices more reasonable than you might expect
-if you find a salesperson (although like most stores "these days" that's a big if) they WILL be helpful and know their shit.
THE END.
Really? THIS is the second largest Bloomingdale's in the world? THIS is supposed to be 59th Street West? What a freaking letdown. Not that I expected to go in and there would be trumpets playing and money would rain down from the heavens but honestly I at least expected a better selection than I could find in my local Bloomingdale's or at Macy's South Coast Plaza.
Ladies take heed they do have a decent product mix in their Louis Vuitton and Jimmy Choo's, not necessarily the newest collection but tried and true pieces, and their cosmetics section does have a wide range of lines BUT overall as far as selection it seems pretty limited and some of the product is from a season or two past. I went with my guys to check out the men's department and play "How Much Does This Cost" (at which I'm an expert) and I did notice they've got some Japanese brands so they do get points for that.
For the fellas: my friend, a guy, said that the bathrooms are FANTASTIC, nice and wide and the stall dividers extend from floor to ceiling so no inappropriate bathroom rendezvous with your friendly local politico. Which in San Francisco, may be a negative for some.
It's not often I see stuff I like in a department store but it seems I wanna buy something everytime I come here. The mens floor is awesome, especially that center alley in between the suit department and the jeans. I bought my first pair of A.P.C's here (never thought I'd see them in a mall) and something inside of me has the urge to blow a paycheck on this navy blue Burberry suit. They also carry PRPS jeans and although I could never afford them, it's nice to see it in person. Over the weekend, I bought a pair of Vans from their "Vault" collection that I've been unable to find anywhere else, not even the cuttiest of boutiques in SF. Awesome.
I really love shopping at Bloomingdales. First of all they carry a large selection of Theory items which are perfect for really petite gals, with their "00" sizes. They also do tailoring if you're a short petite gal like me and need the pants hemmed. They do a fantastic job at hemming pants and taking in sleeves on blazers. When shopping at the toddler section won't do anymore for pants because of the wide hips, big thighs and risk of camel toe, this is the place to go to find clothes that fits.
I love how spacious the store is and it is very well organized. I know exactly where to go, grab a bunch of items from the Theory department, and the sales folks there hold a fitting room for you, then call a tailor to get things hemmed, it's In-n-Out for shopping.
You can even BART into the Westfield shopping mall that takes you right to the mall with a special entrance into the mall. Can they be any more convenient?
Come in during the early morning and sales reps are like personal shoppers for you. They ask for your size and help you look for things you may like, super helpful! Usually you would think Bloomingdales is a rip off in prices, but go there during their sales, you'll find yourself really good quality items for less than what you would pay at Goodwill, Wal-mart, or Target.
A sales lady there found a pair of jeans for me retailing almost $300 on sale for $11!
Also, another plus is that they carry Cle de Peau which I can't find at many Shiseido booths.
This review is just for the denim section only:
Gita M the manager at the Jeans section is extremely rude, snappy and does NOT listen to customers. All I asked her if they do free alternations if you buy something from Bloomingdales, just like the way Nordstroms do, she went off saying how 'this is not Nordstorm'. I told her I know what store I'm at and all I want is weather or not the alternations are free for the customers. Her manager Scott needs to know this.
Nordstrom - you have a new customer.
It was my first time here last weekend. I've always been a Nordies girl, but after walking in here... I've converted. I have honestly died and gone to retail heaven. I heart this place. They've got the most killer collection of sunglasses. I found a pair of Marc Jacobs that are just to die for. They were $40 cheaper than Barney's. I absolutely love the layout of the entire store. They've got mini boutiques after mini boutiques and if you're designer denim obsessed, they've got a section dedicated for you.
I am most definitely coming back!
Once this store opened in San Francisco, I was very excited to shop there. The first Bloomingdales I've ever went to was the one in NYC and I fell in love with that store ever since. They have a great selection on jeans and dresses. I can be in that store for hours.
Me likeeeeeeeeeeeee.
Bought my bff's bday gift herre, it was a salvatore ferragamo clutch that just came out, very nice!
A large selection of juicy, marc and lv!
I just wish I had more $$ to spend haaha. I got a $50 gift card because I purchased over a certain amount, but I totally forgot to use it! ='( so sad still!
I know what you're thinking. You think I am naturally this beautiful and wake up looking this good each and every day. I know, I know, I get it all the time. But no, to look this incredibly awesome takes a little help. I know, it's hard to believe, right? Oh but it's true. So when I need a little flawless boost to my perfectly glowing skin, I rely on Lancome tinted moisturizer. And where does one find that? Well at the Lancome counter at this here Bloomies, of course!
Okay, I can't keep writing like this and hopefully you have noted the heavy amounts of sarcasm, but yeah, this Bloomies is pretty cool. Their displays are usually pretty fetching, the people working here are usually quite friendly and minus the craptastic Xmas music they were blasting here yesterday, it was a pretty perfect experience. Yes, I hate Xmas music and I would kick the little drummer boy's ass if I had the chance. So sue me.
Since I'm a Neiman Marcus & Henri Bendel devotee, I almost feeling traiterous that I am writing a positive review of Bloomingdale's... especially when it's sort of considered the ugly stepsister of Saks and Neiman's. However, I returned to the Brown Bag mecca this past weekend and have to say that I was plesantly surprised.
The store itself is beautiful and well-organized, with a fabulous selection of shoes, purses (with upper-end couture brands down to fashion handbags, like Juicy Couture & Longchamp) and cosmetics on the first floor; women's couture on the 2nd floor; misses on the 3rd floor and men's on the 4th floor. The fact that there is not only a Jimmy Choo, but a LOUIS VUITTON... and RIGHT NEXT DOOR TO ONE ANOTHER!!... makes me want to run around screaming! This is amazingly awesome for any other fashionistas out there.
I spent some time in misses, where I was surrounded by a TON of Diane von Furstenberg frocks... probably my favorite designer alongside Trina Turk (and Ralph Lauren... and...). Anyway, this Bloomingdale's had, BY FAR, the most fabulous, fantastic, youthful, BEST DvF selection I have ever seen, and had her coveted frocks available in not only 00's and 14's, but... GASP... ample 4's, 6's and 8's (hardest to find sizes). Imagine that! There was a rainbow of colors and patterns and some of the DvF dresses of the previous season that are really hard to find. I didn't spend much time in Theory or any of the other misses sections, but I was really impressed.
I spent a bit of time in their men's section, upstairs (dress shirts & ties). Some of the stuff looked metro - then again, it's SF. They seemed to have a lot of men's stuff... uh, I don't know, how am I supposed to judge what a good men's section is?! My menswear knowledge does not really extend very far past Thomas Pink... but then again, that's what personal shoppers are for! :)
Anyway, I like this Bloomingdale's and they have a food court downstairs with lots of different options... pizza, Thai, korean BBQ, Bistro Burger, gelato... etc etc. And they have a movie theatre on the top floor! Yay!
Oh yeah, parking is also relatively simple. Yerba Buena parking garage across the street (on Mission)... it also tells you how many available spots there are on any given floor of the parking garage, which is cool!
I felt like I was dealing with amateurs. I got a pair of dress pants at the store recently, where they had the audacity to charge me extra for the alteration. Everywhere else I have been to, the price of the pants includes it. After the initial disappointment, he then expressed to me, " we do not put coin pockets in our pants, it is not a service we offer". Huh? Any reputable department store could have put one in with a blink of an eye.
Three days later, I would imagine they would have plenty of time to do a great job on it. When I tried them on, my left leg was 1/4" longer than my other. Last time I check, I don't think my left leg is longer than my other, unless...
I always thought of Bloomingdale's is of quality. Maybe even 1 1/2 star.
i love this bloomingdale's! it beats the one in stanford shopping center any day.
besides the fact that i enjoy the decor of the place - i'm partial to the graphic black and white tiled floor, it's really organized and has an impressive range of brands.
even the shoe collection, which, in my opinion, is not bloomie's strong point, is sizeable.
the third floor is my favorite. it's the women's contemporary section and i love love love it. there's a huge selection of denim - earnest sewn, PRVCY, true religion, R&R, J brand, the list goes on. and of course there's theory, bcbg, juicy couture, all the staples, along with some less well-known brands like leifsdottir.
this is definitely a must-visit when shopping SF!
I've met my mom here about a dozen times b/c it is next to powell street bart. It's also your best point of access when you are walking down Market past the Metreon etc. For me, personally- I'd rather shop at a Neiman Marcus or Barney's to escape the mall denizens but it's still a high quality department store.
*EDIT*
...So I have to take back my somewhat harsh review of a certain sales associate -- Joanne/Sharon? I'm not even sure who helped me since my bf and I got different names.
So I found this jacket I loved and a sales associate actually helped me find it from another store, HOWEVER, she didn't call me back until way later. When we finally spoke, she took down all my info (contact, shipping, cc) and then told me she'd call me back to tell me the grand total for it all, since I had to pay extra for shipping from the NY store.
She never called me back. I had to call back myself, 3 hours later, worried that my info was just floating around. When we did, we were told that she already charged me for it. I was so infuriated because that type of business procedure is NOT acceptable. You don't just charge people for goods or services without telling them the total. Granted, I would have bought it anyway, but I had the right to know first.
I checked my cc bill and turns out, she not only gave me the store discount (they were having a sale!), she gave me an additional discount as well.
...Friggn SWEET!
She totally just redeemed herself and honestly, I shouldn't have overreacted.
SHARON (or Joanne?) of the women's coats department -- YOU'RE AWESOME AND I THANK YOU!

The standard for the largest selection of high-end label shopping.
Hugo Boss, Zegna, Polo, Mark Jacobs, John Varvatos,Theory, Armani, Canali, Calvin Klein, etc.
They have them all...........and many times they are on sale for 50% or more.
THE BATHROOMS ARE NICE HERE!! The bathroom stalls are bigger than my whole bathroom and they are actually rooms not stalls. Very convenient as it is close walking distance from the food court so in case you have any emergency after eating lunch.
oh yah..the store is cool and the customer service is actually hospitable to the lower class folks such as myself.
