Big
Crowded
Too many people
Difficult to get help
Crowded

Cool superhero movie clothing on display! (yep, supplies the stars in the review)

Crowded still too many people not enough places to sit and restaurant lines are too long. Even the elevators take forever to come, and they may be too full for you to get inside.

This is a huge store, one you'll spend many hours in if you're a shopper and love clothes. You must really like deals and shopping if you come during a sale. There's a lot of variety, though, so expect to spend several hours, if not the whole day if you're serious about new clothes.

Horrid tourist trap!!!

I hate going into  this store;crowded, overstuffed and not affordable.  I got a cacherell sweater here over 25 years ago and could find my water filters for my Braun coffee maker only at this store;no longer.  Just as well;I don't shop here nor at Macy's because of the parent company,Federated, not only closed down the icon I.Magnin in San Fran, but Marshall Field'sin Chicago as well.  Doesn't carry twin sheets, doesn't carry small men's sizes, and the cosmetics dept. is just a jumble mess.  Saks,Barney's and Bergdorf's do this better than this store.  And this store IS NOT THAT BIG!!!  Even the White Plains store is awful and worse the women in cosmetics pretentious!!!  HELLO!!!  NEXT!

I've always been treated well even though I don't dress well enough to fit their clientele.

I became a fan when I was shopping for Dior glasses in SF and the clerk took her sweet time  telling me how the $350 shades compliment my face. (They were oversized and hid my chipmunk cheeks).

Then I discovered their cashmere gloves. PURRRRRRRRRRRRFect.  They feel so great and they come in the cutest colors of bold purple, blue, etc.

I lost my pair last year when I was hungover in Montreal so I ended up here again on a crappy, rainy day.  I had no umbrella, I looked like shit and the clerks still greeted me with a smile.

I stalked through the crowds and for some reason they had a DJ spinning in the make-up session - really good tunes but I was still disgruntled since I was cold and wet.

Ahh, the accessories dept.  Love, love the feel of cashmere.  I snatched up a pair of cashmere mittens all for $58 no tax!  Plus they have excellent customer service!

LOVE YOU!

Reasons to shop here:

1) Right in the middle of NYC
2) Biggest department store in NYC (aside from Macy's on 34th street)
3) Largest selection of name brands there (from cheap DKNY Jeans to Louis VUITTON)
4) Coupons
5) Tourist and New Yorkers
6) Everything you need is in one store.

This is WHY this location is always FULL!
Anything you need is in here!

Nice department store, Lots of great clothes, housewares, etc.

Rude salespeople. I purchased some clothes here, the cashier said nothing, did not even say hello or thanks and I had to stare at the screen on the cashier to see how much my item was.

Ruins the store, same goes for Macys as well. So far Lord And Taylor has the most professional salespeople.

The Shoe Department on the 2nd floor is the worst. The salespeople are slow, lazy, stupid  and discourteous. 3 times worse during big sales. They never have any shoes in stock even when there are no sales going on. I have seen salespeople standing around joking around and if you ask for help, they say they haven't started their shift yet!  Whoever is running this store needs to replaced asap.

The 2nd floor is the discount shoes like Nine West some decent labels like Coach (which I wouldnt be caught dead in) and Via Spiga (inexpensive Italian shoes) .   The shoe department on the 5th floor has the European designers like Ferragamo's etc but not a big selection. Their sales staff is slightly brighter but still a bit slow.

The Bloomies  in Soho is about 1/5th the size but is better managed and has a better more polished staff and a very customer service oriented Guest Services.

The store in general is very crowded with tourists and even though it is cleaner, better appointed than Macy's, I still think of this is as a Macy's with more expensive but not necessarily better clothes.

If you are looking for, say, Burberry,  I recommend you go to one of their stores for a better selection of better styles. Bloomies only have a few of the lesser expensive, less flattering styles. Same thing re their higher end designer labels like Armani, go straight to their store on Madison. I think you get the idea.

They do have a good cosmetic department but it can be very crowded.

Sigh.  As a former cosmetic retail salesperson, I understand that it's a hard job.  Long hours on your feet dealing with rude customers, and fighting with your coworkers for that $2 commission.  However, that's really no excuse for some of the lamebrains that work here.

I needed a very specific lipstick.  I knew both the name of the brand, product, and color description.  Yet somehow, the process of purchasing this lipstick took a full half hour.  She was untrained, unhelpful, unfriendly - actually more like downright rude.  I had to find the product I needed myself from under the counter cuz apparently she also couldn't read.  Then she didn't know how to use the cash register.  Then she didn't apologize or even thank me.  I felt totally marginalized afterwords.  Violated, even.

I really think that the people that work somewhere speak volumes about how much the business actually cares about their customers.  Unfortunately at such a mega-store, they know they'll always make their sales goals based on tourist traffic, and therefore don't have to try.  I'm not ok with that.  I think I'll be going to Bergdorf's or Barney's from now on for my pricey cosmetics.

While the Bloomingdale's in Chicago doesn't quite do it for me these days, I could spend hours in the NY Bloomingdale's. And I have....

There's no shortage of merchandise here and store is always filled with hundreds of people.  The store just screams NY to me!

I've got some good memories here besides past shopping sprees.  My first college internship was in the Media Relations department of the NY Bloomingdale's. It was a dream internship where I learned a ton about marketing, pr...and a thing or two about clothes as well.

My trips back to The Big Apple are never complete until I've set foot in this magnificent department store.

I have never seen a better men's dress and suits collection, and better than the one in SOHO.  Usually I'm lucky if I find one elegant, yet sophisticated shirt or pants, but here I'm amazed how many things I found that I would actually wear.  Will definitely shop here often.

I'm a big Bloomingdale's fan and keep hoping that one day they will come to AZ.  However, if they do, I pray that it is nothing like this specific Bloom's.  I was shocked at how disorganized this one was!  The other yelper who said it was a maze hit the nail on the head.  The clothes are poorly organized and I got lost several times.  They also are doing construction downstairs which made it even more confusing and more of a mess.  Oh, and there were hardly any sales associates and the few I found were busy gossiping or primping in the mirrors and not interested in helping me at all.

I liked the SoHo location WAY more!

Bloomies REAL World FACTS!
While I want to really like "Bloomies", as they have a nice selection of merchandise at their 59th Street Flagship store, I find the "help" uniformly sullen, passive-aggressive unfriendly & aggressive-hostile to the point of Uber RUDE! Some seem to think you,the customer are there soley,to entertain or please THEM. Please, I go to shop to meet MY NEEDS,not some clerk who's angry because they have to work for a living! Bloomies needs IMMEDIATE refresher sales courses & attitude adjustment courses for the Help! They maybe making a profit, but upper management OBVIOUSLY has NO IDEA how many potential customers are being TURNED OFF & AWAY..& perhaps it's all numbers to them & don't even care...BUT it will catch up to them eventually,if they don't do anything! Customers still care how they are treated!!!!
Lord & Taylor & Bergdorf Goodman have the very best sales people in NYC that are uniformly polite, gracious, helpful! They are never snotty & dismissive  or pushy to the point you feel you're about to be mugged, like you get at Bloomies/Macy's! Bloomies & Macy's better get their fundamental "customer service"act together, cause their salespeople are killing ALL their advertising dollar investment with their unrepentant ignorant antics & acts of sabotage!

Can spend couple hours here and usually find a thing or two. I think it deserves 4.5 stars but would rather give it 5 instead of 4. I like the men's selections better post revamp.

Has moderately priced lables as well as the high-end ones but still missing couple of the must have brands.

I like the new burger joint in the dept store. Food is pretty good. Not a big place and willl cost u $15+ for a nice burger.

Has pretty good selection of luxury brands and has several floors to browse through.

I could spend hours in this store! I usually start my afternoon out with a yummy frozen yogurt from Forty Carrots and then I hit the 2nd floor.

The store is always organized, unless there is a big sale. I've never really had a problem with customer service and you can always find someone around to assist you.

Can't say enough good things about the selection and the sales! I've picked up two Kooba purses in the last 6 months for $250!

I enjoy this location much more than the cramped Soho location.

A monstrous Bloomies.

I got off the subway at Lexington & 59th. As I'm walking up, I notice an entrance to the Bloomingdales in the subway. That's tight.

It was hit and miss with the service. Some were very pretentious while others were down right cool.

The selection was incredible but the prices were way overpriced.

Would I come back? Not in a recession

If you ever need to be taken down a peg, get yourself on over to Bloomingdale's pronto. That should take care of it.

Recession or no recession, their prices are offensive. Not outrageous, not ridiculous. Offensive. They should have their own currency there because the dollar does not go very far at all. I went to exchange a sweater and could not afford to get anything as a direct exchange. And this sweater was originally listed as $200. Unless the lamb walks next to you and crochets the damn thing itself, no sweater is worth $200.

As I walked through the place I experienced an array of emotions starting with depression on my part that someone (notably not me) could afford this crap, pity that someone (notably not me) would spend money on this crap and embarrassment at the fact that someone (notably not me) could charge this much for crap. This is no different from charging $100 for a hamburger. At one point, its just a hamburger.

I got lost in there, which doesn't help. It added to my personal embarrassment. The people who work there were nice enough to help me out to the land where even a weak dollar has some value. I guess they saw that look on my face, the one said: "No Sale!"

Bloomingdales reminds me of Macy's in Herald Square, since there are so many floors that it confuses me and I never know where anything is. The selection is good but the prices are quite high. Still it's usually quite crowded and was completely packed last December around the holidays. I still like their shopping bags though. Seeing people walk around the city with "Medium Brown Bag" seems quite trendy these days.

I have a hard time believing in this whole recession thing with the sea of prada, gucci, fendi, LV bags, etc in Bloomies yesterday. I think it's a media sham, like antioxidants, probiotics, and weather fronts.

Yeah, yeah layoffs, stock market, loans, banks, sub prime mortgages. Not affectin these bitches!

No I do not want to try whatever perfume you're selling.
Yes, I have a Bloomingdales CC.
Yes, I know this $500 scarf looks good on me. It looks good on everyone when you get comission.
No, I don't have the money to buy it. I just like to pretend.
Now get me out of here so I can go buy some $11/lb candy at Dylans while all the kids are at school!

Do you want to know what's really creepy?  At 10am this morning I waited with a sea of overzealous shoppers outside the Bloomingdale's doors until they LET US IN to shop.  We were like an angry mob...a cranky, sad, cold and angry mob.  Don't judge me.  I had my reasons.

So, Bloomingdale's, I have a few words for you:
- Keep doing what you're doing in the lingerie department.  I like it.  It being the personal attention.
- Don't spray perfume in my face.  If you smile at me and make eye contact, I will assume you are ready and willing to give me directions so don't act insulted when I ask for them vs. the Viva La Juicy perfume sample.
- Don't sass me at the Chanel counter.  I realize I am in exercise pants sans makeup, circles under my eyes, with a ponytail (or as I call it....HOT) but I need help as much as the old woman decked out in GOLD.
- Finally, why are your scarves so expensive?  Why do you take so much money from my life?  And why do I love it everytime?  You make me look good but you're also like a drug I can't afford.

I write this review because within Bloomingdale's is a Godiva shop and also several floors up Bloomie's has their own chocolate shop with handmade chocolates, and they show you how they are made too.
You can customize boxes of chocolates for gifts or your own favorites from many delicious truffles, and other chocolates.   Worth the stop,
to check it out and buy a few.

Are we not in a recession?!  I stopped in last night on my trek home from work to get a new pair of leather gloves. I somehow managed to lose just one and my choice was to chop off a hand or buy a new pair of gloves.  I opted to keep my hand and shop.  However, I refuse to pay $90 for new winter gloves even if they are 100% leather as the sales lady noted.  And only 30% off.....geez.

On a positive note, the help there is attentive and the store is well kept unlike Macy's that looked like an earthquake hit NYC during the holiday. They also have a great selection of quality men's clothes and 'stuff'  that are like the sirens calling me back to them.

Bloomie's has a kick-ass makeup section. Especially the MAC.  One on the first floor, one on the second, in the younger woman's section, so you can easily coordinate the eye shadow with that new dress.  Other lines include the usual suspects of Clinique and Lancome, but also Bobbi Brown, Stila, Trish McEvoy, Origins, Shiseido, Laura Mercier and Kiehl's.  YAY for Kiehl's!

The shoe section on 2 is also pretty great.  Not so organized, but I can always find something, and the men working there are really nice and very helpful.  The women?  Not so much.

On 2, there is a great variety of labels: Nanette Lepore, Marc Jacobs, DvF, Theory, Aqua, French Connection, Free People, Juicy, etc.  Combine that with what's on 3, mainly petites and Bloomie's house collection, Sutton Place.  And every jean you could imagine, including a decent selection of Joe's jeans, my favorite (I only care that they have The Muse).  Then I looked around for a dress.  They have some construction going on, but even so, Bloomie's is starting to look like Macy's: everything tangled, in piles, on the floor.   And the customer service could stand some improving.  if you are going to sell higher-end clothing, you need to have more knowledgeable staff.  Not just people who know how to work a cash register.

The hat section is pretty awful, as is leather accessories and bags.

Bloomie's is a rich girl's Macy's, but a very poor girl's Barney's/Bendel/Bergdorf/Saks.  It used to be much nicer, and I prefer the Bloomie's near my mom's house in No. Virginia.  Much nicer, much classier.  The only reason I come here is because I hate going to SoHo on the weekends, and it's inconvenient for me to go down there after work.

I can always find what I'm looking for and a few things I'm not, whenever I come to Bloomingdale's.

The store is giant but the layout is very easy to follow. The sales associates are extremely attentive and willing to do just about anything you ask them, as long you seem like you're going to provide them with a sale.

I love the girls in the Alice+Olivia department here, so sweet and always make sure I get what I need. Also love the handbag department!

Losing one star because my gay bf isn't allowed to come into the dressing rooms to see how fabulous I look. Instead I have to walk outside and show him and whoever else happens to be standing there, and really who wants to do that when it's mid winter and you haven't shaved your legs in 2 weeks?

Bloomies is just another bland, over priced, mass produced department store. Its only saving grace is the wonderful Bed & Bath department. The linens are pricey but high quality and there's a great range of products to choose from.

Other than that, there's no uniqueness at Bloomingdales. All the other merchandise sold is available somewhere else.

I believe the downfall of Bloomies has been its ownership -Federated Stores - which also owns Macys. The CEO of Federated wants every store operated like Macys, which under his watch has become the McDonalds of department store retail. I also understand that the company changed the way it markets discounts - coupons are only sent to store credit card holders that shop frequently.

It will always be a nice store, but real shoppers can do better.

The Men's Store, like most department stores' men's areas, is crammed into the basement and it features multi-levels of cavernous exploration with low ceilings and half floors.  The whole experience is confusing and traumatic.  When you are finally able to emerge to the main floor, you're thrown into the cosmetics section, which is panic-attack-inducing.

For 22 years, I thought I had it good.  Growing up in suburban Philly, Bloomingdales'  Willow Grove outpost was my shopping standby.  59th St could kill WG with it's pinky finger.

Being that I'm a girl and Bloomie's caters to it's female shoppers, it's better than any other store, ever.  Of course most of it's brands are more high end and expensive, but they also carry less expensive names (Lucky Brand, C & C, Max Studio) and have their own reasonable priced labels like Aqua.  They're sales are also fabulous - frequent, long lasting, and most items eventually get there.

As far as customer service goes, there's always more than enough staff on the floor, they'll let you return anything after almost any amount of time, there are plenty of fitting rooms/cash registers, and there are lounges and nice restrooms throughout the store.  Also, bring your pup in - they're welcome of course.

The ONLY issue: don't go on a Saturday afternoon, as it's almost as bad as Century and you'll probably want to kill yourself.

Some of the brands are Bloomingdale's are awesome.  The staff is helpful, the product is well arranged and in general, it's just a great experience.

However, I have to note that the Juicy counter at Bloomingdale's is staffed by the rudest, most unhelpful people in the entire store.  I mean like they don't look up as they answer your questions and seem completely put-out by requests for different sizes, etc.  Homeboy actually SIGHED when I asked if they had a certain color in a different size.  THE WORST.  Horribly bad.  Can't say it enough.  You're selling sweatsuits, not curing cancer.  Have some customer service.

I'm from LA and this Bloomies is the best one I've been to by far.  The difference here is that it truly feels like a department store from the 50's.  It is an institute in itself.  In LA you just walk in and it feels like just another store.  This one had some sort of spirit to it....

You can find Chanel, Burberry, Fendi, Louis Vuitton, Marc Jacobs and many more high end boutiques in this store!  Girls, if you are looking for that IT designer bag, this is one stop you need to make.  The LA store has such mediocre selections of handbags, nothing like this.

We also grabbed a bite here at David Burke and it was great!  You can spend an entire day at this store.  Love, love, love it!

I like Bloomies for great sales and deals, especially at this time when the economy is reeling (Is it wrong that I feel like right now is the time to buy more then ever?  hmmm...  But such great deals!).  But their selection in the women's dept really needs help and their sales people are so hit or miss.  Recently, I had this awful experience.  Me and my girlfriend were both ready to drop some serious mega-dough on some David Yurman bracelets (again, should I be worried here?), but we were dwarfed by an incompetent sales person who couldn't work the systems.  Such a disappointment!  Anyway, good for sales on basics, but that's about it.

honestly, the best of the best.

i absolutely adore bloomingdales...and this location is unbeatable. absolutely gigantic selection on EVERYTHING. my friend was looking for a dress for her rehearsal dinner and wound up finding a dress for the rehearsal dinner, her brunch...and a few other things for other occasions. i was not shopping (sadly)...but found several somethings i would have loved to have snagged.

great deals...and for what it is, its totally reasonably priced. im a bloomies devotee.

fun fact...if you show your out of state id at the visitors center, you can get a coupon for 10% off...NICE!

This is one huge department store. You can tell that it was added on through the years because walking through it is like a maze. There are just additions everywhere! I went during Black Friday and it was crazy! People were just pouring in.

- the sales people are so attentive and friendly even though the store was packed.
- compared to Macy's, Bloomingdale's is a bit more high-end. Yes, the things are pricey. But during Black Friday, most were marked down 30 to 50 percent off.
- Okay, walking around Bloomingdale's can get disorienting because you can tell some parts were added on later. They had weird mezzanines and half-floors that made finding what you wanted a bit difficult. But asking one of the sales associates will help greatly.
- Don't impulse shop! They strategically place stuff you probably don't need but can't resist near the exits.
- San Francisco's Bloomingdale's can learn something from New York.. Back in San Francisco, the sales associates are too stuck up and snobby. It's like they don't want to help you. New Yorkers are more friendly and willing to go the extra mile to help you.

I just took a job as a copywriter for a Bloomingdale's ad.  Here's what I came up with:
"If you didn't walk in superficial, and you didn't leave superficial, then we didn't do our job.  Bloomingdale's.  Feeling better about yourself yet?"

Presentation's tomorrow.
