I had my makeup done for my wedding with one of the artists at Bloom. (I can't remember her name, now...but it started with an S...(not Sarah, though.) I loved both the trial and wedding day makeup. Sarah was the one who orchestrated the appointments and she did email and call me to confirm my appointments. My only complaint would be that I thought it was a little pricey. $225 for makeup seems like a lot to me, for 1 hour. But, I was happy with the work, so I'm not going to complain too much.
I also got a spray tan with Audra. Although it was a little touch and go with phone tag to get an appointment scheduled, I thought Audra was great. She was very nice and professional. I am very fair skinned, and I thought the tan was a little too dark. Audra was very concerned and wanted me to happy with her service. She went out of her way to make sure I liked it. In the end, I did not get tanned for my wedding, but I am excited to go back and try getting a lighter tan in the future. I thought the spray tan was priced fairly...$55 for 2 tans.
This review is for a specific for a makeup artist at Bloom, Samantha.
I was looking everywhere for an artist to do my makeup for my wedding day, and was especially interested in trying airbrush makeup. After signing up for a trial, I was super excited to see how freaking adorable the salon was. Super cute, pink, glam. Need I say more?
Unfortunately, my experience went downhill from there. Samantha was extremely unprofessional, giggling and saying "oops", etc. Oops? I am not paying $85 for a trial with someone who doesn't know what they're doing.
Anyways. The airbrush foundation was uneven and did not match my skin color - or even close. The eye makeup had to be re-done, because the "artist" kept screwing it up. In the end, I looked like a total freak, but was reassured that it was just different because it was going to look good on camera. Right. I went home and took pictures. It still sucked & I looked possessed.
Frankly, it was so bad that I should have refused to pay. The woman who did it was giggling to herself when I said that it looked bad. In fact, it was so terrible that I almost wondered if she messed up on purpose.
Obviously, I didn't book my makeup with them, and won't ever go here for makeup services.
That being said, I had my wedding hair done by Teresa, one of the co-owners, and it was fantastic. Plus one star for her. Read that review here: http://www.yelp.com/bi...
There are some days that you just HAD to satisfy your curiosity about certain stores. One day, I just knew that a trip to BLOOM was on my planner.
I arrived not knowing what to expect. Walking in, it was adorably pink and I was greeted with lovely smiles. Somehow, I was immediately holding a glass of sparkling wine and getting lashes put on! Sarah did an amazing job and I loved them! She even put on a bit of eye shadow to compliment the lashes for my hot date that night.
I totally recommend this place simply for the atmosphere and the great work the ladies do!
Sarah is the Michaelangelo of makeup! Myself and my wedding party looked fabulous on my wedding. I wanted everyone to look natural and Sarah not only did that, but was able to bring out everyones best features with her artistry
We opted to do the airbrushing and is was worth every penny! It didn't feel heavy, it stayed on all day and it remained flawless even after all the dancing. In fact, when I tried to remove it that even I had to scrub my face until it was raw. This stuff lasts.
Teresa was our amazing hair diva. She listened to exactly what everyone wanted and delivered beyond expectations. Our hair maintained it's shape all through the evening and looked just as good when the night was over.
These women are experts at what they do and will accommodate you in any way they can. They were right on time at the crack of 8am at my wedding location even though it was 30 minutes from their place of business. They expect nothing less of perfection and it is definitely reflected in their work. I highly recommend using their services! They will not disappoint.
Ok. I think I've calmed down enough to write this.
First impression of Bloom (where the misses was getting her test hair and make-up done) was fantastic. They were nice, accommodating, and seemed to be really on the ball and nail what she wanted and what I wanted the time line to be.
And then they swiped the credit card.
Magically, the hairstylists ability to return calls flew out the window and the hair person double booked herself and fawked our time line to hell. What the hell? You can't keep a calendar and we're trusting you to get your ass up and work on a Saturday? Damnit all to hell. Then she calls the misses and blames HER (!!!) that we came in too close to the wedding date and she'd still *TRY* (!!!) to squeeze her in but not at the time she needed.
All this. With two days to go. Groom-zilla is nonplussed. Groom-zilla was fucking pissed that his repeated called went unreturned. I still haven't heard from them. Every other vendor called in, except them. Assholes.
The other oddball thing about this place is they are all independent contractors. Each has their own payment, their own schedule, nothing is a package. Ye Olde Visa got a workout that day, I'll tell you.
My wife is already a 10, but they were able to bump her up to an 11. She looked great for our wedding, and the make-up artist was a joy to work with and also did all of her brides maids make-up (At the time and schedule she agreed to when we paid her, by the way!)
In the end, we (the royal we, our wedding planner Rekha http://www.yelp.com/bi...) saved the day and got us back on track.
This rating is dicey. Make-up service and performance was stellar. Hair was good, and the service and scheduling could have sucked a golf ball though a 1/8" lead pipe.
I'm going to give it 3 stars, only because one was stellar the other a moron who can't use a pencil and a calendar at the same time.
Ok. I'm done. My therapist says I'm making progress...
*Edit: So I get this PM....*
So now, after 10 months, I get this from Vicky defending what a crappy expereince my wife and I had here.
"Zakk,
I feel that your comment about Bloom is unfair. I was the stylist that worked on all of the bridesmaids in your wedding party. I take great pride in my work and go out of my way to ensure perfection on every head of hair I work on.
I recall your review of Bloom, and of your experience with Teresa, (who worked on your bride/co-owns salon) a majority of the people that work for Bloom are independent contractors, and have no control over the running of the business. Please don't judge all of the stylists at Bloom as one, but as separate artists.
thank you."
So Teresa is the OWNER who screwed us over and this Vicky woman is telling ME that MY review is unfair? Independent Contractors had nothing to do with this, we were treated this way by THE OWNER!? LOL! It only gets worse.
- 1 star so now that I know that it's the owner that can't handle an appointment book then blames the clients paying into the thousands of dollars for making her life harder.
Also the amount of the ol' "First Review 5 stars" stuff going on under this business is suspicious....
I just had a cut and color with Sonya and I love it! Sonya is awesome! She listens to you and offers suggestions but isn't all pushy like some stylists are. We had a great time chit chatting while we waited for my color to set. It's like talking with a long lost friend.
The salon is small and cute. Just the right size. Not so small you wonder how they do business and not so big that there is tons of stuff going on you and you feel like you have to holler to be heard. They also do massage, spray tanning, make-up and hair styling. I saw some pics of some weddings they did, just so beautiful.
I can't wait to go back! : )
I finally found the time to write a review.
Searching for a place to get my hair and make up done for my Senior Ball was very difficult, but that's my mistake. I had started looking really late. In fact, by the time I started, a lot of places were already booked! After weeks of searching, clicking, reading reviews, and looking at sites, I found a great offer: $100 Prom Package, and guess from who; Bloom Beauty. Wowza! After looking at the pictures, I knew that I just had to call in and make an appointment, and fortunately, it was very easy for me to make.
The day came and I asked my sister to go with me. I told her, "If something looks strange, say something." My sister is not afraid to voice her opinion. Needless to say, I hardly heard a peep out of her.
We walked in to Bloom Beauty and well, it's such a cute little place! :) Everyone there had been so kind and cheerful: offering drinks, gossiping, complimenting each other. To be honest, when I got there, I had no idea how I wanted my hair done, but Christina was very kind and patient and offered her suggestions. After looking through a few magazines, I found the perfect up-do, and I had plenty of time to think about it while I got my make up done.
Natasha did my make up. I was in awe at how much make up she carried with her! LOL. Then again, she did use to work with MAC, which means that she's an experienced professional. When I found that out, my worries died down. I was afraid that I would walk into my senior ball looking like a Barbie Doll. Phew. As Natasha set up the make up section, she asked me how I wanted my make up done. I told her "Nothing too dramatic--something soft and more emphasis on my eyes." She did exactly that. I was in awe!
Then, it was time for my hair. I sat down in the chair and showed Christina the pictures, and then, she went to work. Christina likes to turn her customers away from the mirror so that we can't see what it looks like until the very end. I was so anxious the entire time; I really wanted to see what it looked like! Even more so whenever she kept saying that it looks really great. After a spray of that volume thingy, 2 hair-ties, some hair teasing, some hairspray, some hair twisting, and 41 bobby pins later, she finally let me look at her masterpiece. No, I am not exaggerating. It was simply a masterpiece. It looked wonderful and I was very satisfied! Christina took pictures of it after she was done. I want to see them again. :) Email please?
Overall, I had a great experience (duh, look at how many stars I gave). I think it was worth the long drive (I live in San Jose, borderline Milpitas. Google map that to Willow Glen!). I think it'd be nice to go back one day to try out the hair color and cut. :)
Thanks Bloom Beauty! (I guess I tend to write long reviews.)
PS. Oh, the hair stayed in tack and the makeup looked the same the entire night. Even after some sweaty dancing and running around. Well done!
On my wedding day I had my hair done by Teresa and my make-up done by Natasha. I was extremely pleased with both! I've had my make-up done numerous times in the past by make-up artists, and this was by far the best. I loved my eye make-up! Truly outstanding.
Teresa put in extensions for me and went above and beyond to make sure that I was happy and liked my hair. She originally used a new type of hair that turned out to be really tangly..but she took the time to (and a long time at that!) to swap out the hair for me. She literally spent over 7 hours putting in the new hair. She was also really responsive to all my emails and questions about extensions.
On the day of the wedding my hair turned out beautifully. It was long and flowing and exactly how I wanted it. Teresa was extremely helpful and gave me extra bobby pins and hair spray the day of the wedding when I realized I didn't have any.
Both Natasha and Teresa were early for hair and make-up on the day of the wedding. They were professional, helpful, friendly, and great to work with.
I would highly recommend both of them!
LOVE Sarah!
Sarah was the first and only make up artist that I tried when searching for who would do my make up on my wedding day. She did my trial about 3 months before my wedding and I just loved what she did that I didn't bother to look anywhere else. I booked her right then and there!
She came to my hotel the day of my wedding and worked her make-up magic. The airbrushing lasted ALL NIGHT LONG, even through my wedding ceremony tears. Sarah worked with me to get the exact look I wanted....she really brought out my eyes! I felt BEAUTIFUL!!
After the wedding, Sarah did lash extensions for me. These are really cool and very pretty and lasted our 12 day Honeymoon!! Sarah is just a delight and I'd receommend her in a heartbeat.
I must agree with all the awesome reviews on Yelp, Bloom is AWESOME! Sarah is AWESOME! The lashes that she applied for me were AWESOME! This boutique makes you feel really relaxed. I will definitely consider using Sarah or one of the stylist for any future beauty needs I may have!
Went in a couple of weeks ago for a spray tan before a friends wedding and it was awesome!! I usually wouldn't have made the drive down the peninsula just for a tan, but I have always been told great things about the girls that work here from some of my friends that go in regularly so I figured I'd give it a try and I really wanted someone that I'd heard good referrals on. I wasn't in any hurry to show up to the wedding looking like a pumpkin. It was so worth the drive....my tan looked so natural and even! I wish I could naturally tan and have it look that good!! This will now be my go to spot everytime I need a little glow. Thanks ladies!
I love Audra!!
I can for a tan just to test it our before my wedding it looked awesome she even text me the next morning to make sure I was happy.
Christina Christner is awesome! If you want a wonderful facial or the most relaxing massage, you have to see her. Truly a treat!. The salon itself is very beautifully decorated, It was lovely.

Bloom is truly a "charming" boutique! From the moment you walk in, you're greeted by friendly staff and an relaxing atmosphere. The decor is girly yet tasteful. I came to Bloom to get my makeup done for my girlfriend's wedding. Sarah was fantastic! I recommend getting airbrushed...my skin looked perfect and my makeup lasted all night! Not even a smudge! Sarah was a complete delight throughout the whole process. I will be coming back...I'm thinking of trying out their eye lash extensions next! Thank you Bloom!!!
I feel kind of bad writing an unfavorable review of bloom but the service was just not that great. I normally go to Umbrella and see Tia to get my haircut but wanted to try this place out. I saw Sonya for a haircut and everything was just sub-par. The shampoo, neck massage, cut, and styling, everything. She was a little ruff and even forgot to cut the layers that frame my face. I was not happy. If you are looking to get a good haircut and have a pleasant expierence go see Tia. Bye-bye Bloom.
PLUS... you cannot just call the front desk to make an apt. you have to call the stylist or whoever else separately HOW FREAKING ANNOYING!
I 'heart' Teresa. She did a fabulous job on my hair + my 5 bridesmaids. My hair is pretty thin so she added extensions and it looks great. You can't even tell that their are extensions on my head. My hair lasted all day from 8am till 12am! I would highly recommend Teresa!
Bloom Beauty Boutique is a refreshing and tranquil environment. From top to bottom this is the place to give yourself a treat. Whether a kickin' cut or a relaxing beauty treatment you won't be disappointed. The Staff and Owner's are awesome!!!!
I've never had a spa treatment before, but I got a gift certificate for Bloom Beauty Boutique from my wonderful boyfriend for a mini-retreat with Christina Christner. She is awesome! She's patient, and super nice. I had a wonderful time relaxing, and will definately be going back! Thanks!
Teresa met in Palo Alto to style my hair and my bridesmaids' hair. She did a great job, she was fast but not rushed, and she's really nice. It was pretty expensive, but still the cheapest of the wedding hairstylists I looked into.
Sarah is awesome! I hated having other people do my makeup as a result of a bad experience. But I reluctantly let Sarah do it for a wedding I was in and I had no regrets.I loved it! She is the only only one I will let do it . I love her!
I had never spray tanned before and I was a bit nervous becuase I am pregnant and can't go into the booths. Audra made me feel very comfortable and educated me on the ingredients and effects of the color becuase i was worried what it may do to my baby. I learned it was a sugar based product and I felt like I had found the solution to not be a pasty white pregnant woman and I was EXCITED! The brochure gave me plenty to read to educate me further as to why I was making the right choice. I highly encourage using Audra and her service for any pregnant woman out there...AUDRA IS FABULOUS & SO IS HER TANNING ABILITY!!!
I had my trial with Theresa and Salina. Ending up only booking Theresa for my hair. (By no means is Salina sub-par, I just found another make up artist I liked better) Wedding day Theresa was on time and very helpful. All the bridesmaids LOVED their hair as I did mine. We all received compliments all night long on it and it stayed in place the entire night! Thank you Theresa!
Teresa and Sarah did hair and makeup for my wedding- and it was beautiful.
My hair was exactly what I wanted. Teresa was able to look at the pictures I gave her and replicate the look I was going for, but made it fit with my personality and style.
Sarah did a great job with my makeup as well, and when I requested lighter foundation and different eye color, she happily obliged, and it looked great.
Both were on-time and easy to communicate with. Highly recommended.
I had my first spray tan at Bloom. Audra is very pleasant and very nice.
She gives you two options: $55 for 2 sessions or $35 for one. I wish I only had paid the $35 for one session. I had myself spray tanned for a wedding. The tan is ok, I wasn't overly crazy with the results. I used to tan back in the days in the tanning salon and in the sun, my tan looked very natural and glowy back then. Of course I don't do that crazy stuff anymore so I decided to try the spray tanning. Also, i could see the blotches in my legs with the spray tan, thank God I was wearing a long dress at the wedding. The tan does not last 10 days, even if you put moisturizers. After the third day, you will notice spots where your tan is coming off, your neck will look as if you didn't take a shower by day 5. I
put some alcohol on a towelette to get rid of the dye. I wouldn't recommend this type of tanning if you're wearing a short dress.
Christina Felix is the worlds best up and coming hair stylist extraordinaire! She can master ANYTHING! I have the most baby fine, thin flat hair and she was able to give me the look of the stars. I had something in mind and Christina worked it. I never though I'd have the look she was able to give me on the day it mattered most. She was able to not only do something amazing with my hair, but each one of my 7 brides maids had something completely different yet stunning. She came to the location in San Francisco ready with everything needed to add extensions and created a clean, natural look. We had a trial run a week before our September, 2007 wedding but some how it turned out even better on the wedding day. If you are looking for someone who is style savvy, accommodating, flexible, dependable and creative then she is definably the one you want. I wouldn't go any where else. You will not and can not be disappointed. I will be going back to her, and no one else. She is unmatchable.
I was recently a bridesmaid in a wedding and Teresa and Sarah from Bloom were hired to do our hair and make-up. Teresa did a fantastic job on the hair. I sent pictures around to some girlfriends and they all commented on how it was the best "wedding hair" they had ever seen (you know how hard it is to find someone who can do a great up-do!). Sarah also gave me eyelash extensions and they looked absolutely gorgeous. I felt so pretty! Both ladies are extremely nice and professional. I would def. recommend them both to anyone.
Let me start by saying that Bloom is the best salon in San Jose!!!!! They do it all......it's the most girliest salon I have ever stepped in to. It's a gorgeous salon! I was looking around for a makeup artist for my wedding and read all the reviews and even had some recomendations from people. So I made an appointment to meet with Sarah Pena and she was a doll! Such a genuine girl very honest and humble! She worked for MAC for some years and shes gone to the best Makeup artistry school in San Francisco her skills rock! The day of my wedding I loked like a real live BARBIE!!!!! I felt so beautiful and my makeup looked so flawless and radiant, it lasted all day and night and it was about 85 degrees that day. I also tried Audra who specializes in airbrush tans. I'm a very pale girl who has the hardest time tanning and perfers not to damage my skin from the beds. I was nervous at first but she talked to me about the process well that was the best day ever i was a golden godess I loved it because it wasnt that orange i thought it was going to be, it was a golden natural looking tan it was awsome! way better job than anyother tanning salon! I love this salon it's a hidden gem!!!!!!!
