New York, NY
Nonna Maria. One of the best slices of pizza and a must try. It has fresh mozzarella, splashes of tomato sauce (the perfect amount in my opinion), basil and CRUNCH. I'm not just talking about the crust, every bite had a crunch. (I love my slices crunchy.)
The place inside sits around 12 people but they also have seats outside. Me and my friend sat outside and I remember that I was surprised when they checked up on us because most places don't do that. However, our pizza did get a little cold because it was a bit on the windy side but it tasted great anyway! -

It's actually awful.
What's with these "best in NY" reviews? I've had maybe 5 slices here over the years: OK, but nothing special; I never did get their supposed newspaper ratings. Especially when they're just down the street from Keste and the wonderful John's.
But the slice last week was the WORST. Dry, very little cheese or tomato sauce, and pepperoni sliced so thin it was almost transparent.
Difficult to get around the helter-skelter tables and cleaning supplies, no atmosphere at all.
I should say, the service is fast and friendly enough. -

I know, I know. Only 2 stars? For a pizza joint that gets raved about all the time? Well, yes. I didn't believe the hype. And I don't understand it. I stopped in here with a friend after a show at the Lucille Lortel. Having heard how great their pizza was, I was looking forward to something special.
I didn't get it.
I've tried a 2nd time, thinking maybe it was just that I'd come at a late hour and it wasn't so fresh. Nope. The crust was undercooked, the toppings sparse, and the flavor .... well, the flavor was that of cardboard. Blah. Lifeless. Certainly not the outstanding raved about slices that I was expecting.
Maybe my bar was raised to high by Vinnie's Pizza, the loss of which I continue to mourn. I'll keep looking, but Bleecker Street Pizza will not see me darken their door again. -
Review from Meghan P.
I stopped by Bleecker Street Pizza for a 2pm, first thing I ate all day, pre-Super Bowl, hangover cure, en route to the bar, Nonna slice. I was in a rush, since my friend was holding down a Super Bowl table at the bar, and was the first one there, so I didn't want her to be sitting all alone. I ordered my one Nonna slice, and asked for it not to be re-heated. WOW what a great decision. The room temperature Nonna packed a lot of punch! It was juicy, and all the flavors were sincerely enhanced vs. re-heated, or even hot delivery! So lesson learned. I skipped the free fountain soda with yelp check-in, finished devouring, and walked away a happier and wiser human being.

A little over hyped, nonetheless most of the time it's good. I've had some excellent slices of pizza here, and some pretty bad ones. It's a bit hit or miss, and I'm not sure why.

Had a Nonna Maria and a pepperoni and mushrooms. Eh. Crust was nice, firm, crunchy. But as a personal preference I enjoy a little bit of sauce, and these pizza were devoid of any. The Nonna Maria was almost tasteless, just don't get it. There are two types of pizza I go for, chessy, saucy, greasy street pizza and Neapolitan pizzas. This place tries to be both and jusy doesn't work for me.

Seriously....some of the best pizza in NYC. A thin, crispy crust. Upgrade to the Nonna Maria for better ingredients, it's worth it.
The dining area is cramped so its best to grab your slice and go. -
Review from Alex S.
But seriously, what happened to this place? It's gone downhill every year. I used to live in the area and hit up this spot about once a week. There's a sick sick delicious gelato place right around the corner so you can get your fix on x 2. I've probably taken about 15 of my friends here.
Most recent experience here left a bad taste in my mouth. Slices have gotten smaller, have less flavor, are somehow even more crispy to the point of being just a burnt piece of bread, and apparently prices now are ridiculous. $15 for 4 slices? 2 plain 2 with toppings? Price gouging on New Years? That's not very festive.
But hey, take a look at the line. I guess it's supply and demand.
You supply the overpriced overhyped pizza, and I demand to stop coming here. -

Plain cheese is better than the nonne but holla at the VALUE! 1 slice chicken, 1 slice cheese, 2 slices nonne, bottle of water and a soda....$10.50. I'll come back at 1am just for that.
If you are looking for ambiance, the only ambiance you will get is "average looking pizza joint with boxed piled all around." Come for the food and the price...and they take credit card. I can't believe that this still needs to be a consideration these days, but so many places disappoint. -
Review from Darren T.
I think this is the best pizza I've had in my life. I actually gave up the search. But my friend recommended this place and man... I've found it.
Got the nona maria.
Crust was thin and crispy, and not at all burnt -- perfectly how it should be.
The cheese was good. I've had better cheeses but I can't complain too much.
The marinara/tomato was wonderful. Perfectly tangy with just the right amount of tomato-y sweetness to with it. Only problem was that I was hoping for more of that tomato goodness... they were a bit cheap with it. The chiffonaded basil over the pizza just perfected it. -
Review from Helen L.
I've never stepped foot into this place, nor have I seen the actual shop, but I did get a taste of their goodies and I loved what I had. They delivered a stack of pies to Fat Cat and I ate more than my stomach wanted me to. The slices leaned on the salty side, but not too bad. The dough was great, sauce was on point, and toppings were just right. I'm not a Pizza Connoisseur and I haven't had all there is to have of New York pies, but I can say, so far, this is the best pizza I've had in NYC.

Review from Hung N.
Pizza was frickin good...crust perfectly crispy, cheese tasted awesome with the parmigiano...and cheap I ordered 3 slices and a drink...like 12 bucks.
We did the peporroni/sausage, nonna maria, and a sicilian...big sausage slices , and the nonna maria was just perfect. One simple touristy thing you should know, is your order, they throw it in the oven, you pay, than get your slice when its ready. SImple, but I was confused :). Seating was very limited but we found a spot and devoured our pizza. -

4.5 stars IMO
If you are on Foursquare and check in you get a free soda if you get 2 slices. The guys were nice enough to give us 2 free sodas since there were 2 of us. Nice guys? DEFINITELY!!!! But how's the crust? An essential part of a yummy pizza? It's GOOD! It has a nice snap and good texture. Seriously you can see little specks of texture on the bottom!! I swear NOT a stoner moment!!!
He had the margarita, I had the white pizza. His was by far WAY better than mine. Always fun looking at the celebs on the wall and see what decade they stopped by for a piece of pie. -

Crisp crust, not too thick, but not limp like an unhappy dick.
I could not imagine a pizza I would like more than pepperoni, but the margherita showed me... A true pizza lover's delight is in the dough, the tomatoes, and the cheese. Bleecker Street Pizza has it on lock down. There is a balance of flavors that I don't find in many pizzerias. Its competitors are usually dripping in oil, but theirs stands alone with wholesomeness that reminds me of pizza's I baked with my mom.
Stop in and get a pizza by the slice within a minute, or call in and order delivery. Either way, you won't find disappointment here. -

New York, NY
Listen, people, this is New York. You can't disguise bad pizza! We ordered two pies for delivery: one sausage/peppers/onion and one nonna (fresh mozz, tomato, basil). The sausage pie came completely "undone" as all the cheese and toppings melted to one side of the box (not to mention they sent mushrooms instead of onions). The crust for both pizzas tasted like cardboard and was charred on a few slices. Really unacceptable.

Review from Tommy K.
I was reluctant to try this place because of the "Voted Best Pizza" claims.
It was raining and this place is on Seamless, and we decided to try it.
The Nonna Maria pizza is excellent. Quality cheese, tangy sauce, fresh basil on top of a crunchy but not burnt crust. Just wished the crust itself was more doughy.
We were impressed and I am a fan and will order again or stop by for a slice. We added sausage and it was spicy and fresh.
Haven't tried anything else and the Grandma slice is up next for me. -

This was stop #2 on my 100% unofficial NY pizza challenge where I hit as many West Village pizzerias in one night that my stomach could handle. I tasted at Joe's, Bleecker Street, and John's. I'm probably going to get hate mail for this, but Bleecker Street was better than Joe's and much better than John's. In my defense, the local fire department was there picking up three whole pies. So if you don't trust my pizza palate, follow the FDNY.
I ordered a $3.25 maria nonna slice. The sauce gave the pizza good flavor along with the herbs. The cheese held to the pizza and wasn't tough. The very thin crust was texturally a little too brittle, but had better flavor than the other pizzerias. Although this was clearly my favorite pizza of the night, it was still rather ordinary. Sorry New York, your simple slices are not a culinary match for the complex, hearty, and flavorful Chicago pies. And yes, I know I'm going to get hate mail for saying that.
This is not a sit down restaurant and part of the eating area doubles for storage. -

New York, NY
Was aimlessly walking around the West Village when my roommate said we should stop in for a slice and that this was one of his favorite places to get a slice. I must say the pizza was pretty damn good. The crust was crispy and it tasted great. In a land of 99 cent pizza, I completely forgot that better pizza exists. The place itself was pretty small and cramped so I would definitely recommend taking the food to go.

Grabbed a couple slices there and they were great! Thin crust that was cooked until a slight crunch. Ambiance was a typical pizzeria with tons of photos of the owner with all the famous people that visited there. If you in the area and looking for a quick bite, I'd stop by.

Crust is good. Crispy. Thin. Not too doughy.
Quality ingredients.
Had a slice of Nonna Maria last nite at midnite. Fresh mozzarella. Basil. Marinara. Parm cheese. Twas tasty.
Better eaten at the venue the delivery. Probably my favorite of the walk in by the slice pizza joints in the hood. Slices are reasonably priced also $2.75 and up for high quality. -
Review from Kazu O.
Out of the 4 pizza places I tried while I was in NYC, this place gets 3rd place. I mean, it was good. It was just that it faced some tough competition. It was WAY better than Grimaldi's, though.
Typical NY-style pizza, with a crispy-yet-foldable crust with some slight fluffiness in the texture. Toppings were very ordinary. I don't remember being wow'ed by this... hence, only 3 stars. I think I need to give the higher ratings to slices that left more of an impression in my memory! -

Stopped in for a quick slice earlier today, my first time here. Had a mushroom slice. Size seemed a little small, flavors were there, but slice basically fell apart at the first fold. Had to eat it in three segments, a little disappointing.

Review from HARVEY C.
Queens, NY
Public Service Announcement: Bleecker Street Pizza is terrible in so many ways...
After going outlet shopping in Pennsylvania by way of driving 2 hours each way, I returned to the city extremely hungry as I did not eat all day. But I should have went straight back to Queens instead as having sleep for dinner would have been more fulfilling as best described by the Lords of the Underground:
http://www.youtube.com...
Ah, but i digress...So I had a crappy voucher from Gilt City (why does Gilt City charge tax on their vouchers?) and decided to use it before it expired tomorrow on 10/11/11. The voucher cost me $15 + $1.33 in tax and It was good for $31 worth of food. Here's what was included:
1. house salad worth $7:
http://www.yelp.com/bi...
The salad was very large and not bad at all..
2. a large Nonna Maria Pie - thin crust with fresh mozzarella, homemade marinara sauce, Parmesan & fresh basil worth $22:
The pie had mediocre sauce and cheese. Despite having scattered puddles of sauce everywhere, it could not save the dry crust/underside which was like granite:
http://www.yelp.com/bi...
The picture speaks for itself as the cracked crust looks like a NYC cement sidewalk suffering from slumlord neglect...
FYI: PIZZA CRUST SHOULD NOT CRACK~!!!
Not even a bucket of sauce left on top of the pie for 40 days and 40 nights would penetrate it:
http://www.yelp.com/bi...
3. two fountain sodas - I presume they were $1 a piece as the total value of the deal was $31...
And that's $31 worth of food from good ol Bleecker Street Pizza. But I'm not done yet. I need to mention how they charged me, and everyone else who used Gilt City, $2.25 for tax as they said the voucher doesn't cover that kind of stuff. But oddly enough it says, "Sales Tax Included" on the menu board at the pizzeria and the takeout menu:
http://www.yelp.com/bi...
If the pizza was kick ass, I wouldn't be making such a big stink about everything. But the pizza was disgusting. So thank you for ripping everybody off today and I'll let the $2.25 slide as it was fun blasting you on Yelp....
P.S. - Their menu and Yelp page reminds us of their 2 minutes of fame via the Jimmy Kimmel show and how Kimmel said, "That was the greatest slice of pizza that I have ever put in my mouth." I think Kimmel's a funny guy. But i didn't know he was joking when he said the pizza was good.... -
Review from Allene T.
I'm not a fan of NY style pizza it seems..... don't hurt me!!
Myself and 3 guys ordered 2 full pies (1 mushroom and 1 meatball). These things are MASSIVE holy crap. Anyways, the meatball one was okay, the meatballs were like the giant ones cut into slices and they didn't have much of a taste and were a bit dry. The mushroom one was pretty good, plenty of mushrooms, too. It took about 30 minutes for us to get both pies, which is actually pretty quick. The place was also packed with orders, with many people using their 2-pie GiltCity vouchers. The guy behind the counter didn't seem too happy, but otherwise I was impressed with the speed of service.
Not much seating outdoors, but there is quite a few in back of the restaurant (though it gets quite warm). -

Garden Grove, CA
Visiting from CA, I come upon this super tiny pizza parlor, seats about 8 people but who cares? It's New York and really, only food matters to me.
I was on vacation in NY, and I haven't seen or had real NY pizza. I stepped in here from the cold wind in March. Took one look at the pizzas and thought "uhhh...these look.... so flat and dry. I don't know..." I think I ordered a pepperoni slice and split with the BF. One bite and I almost cried tears of joy. I had NEVER tasted such delicious pizza. Thin, thin and crispy crust. I think the crust says a lot about pizza. And the CHEESE... SOOO cheeeeeesy.
best pizza thus far. -

Melbourne, FL
Read so much about this place so I decided that's where we were going to get pizza on our most recent trip to NYC.
We went kind of early on a Friday night. Probably around 5:00-5:30. It was just my wife and I so I thought we'd just get some slices instead of a whole pie. I ordered 2 Nonna Maria slices, 1 cheese/mushroom slice, and 1 plain cheese slice.
The flavor of the Nonna Maria slices was excellent. But the crust, particulary at the end, was a little too dry/crusty for my liking. I'm thinking that's maybe just 'cause they'd been sitting during the afternoon and drying out some and then the re-heat in the oven made them even more that way. I didn't try the mushroom slice, but I thought the plain cheese slice was delicious. I might even say that it was better than the Nonna Maria slice.
If I were to go back some other time that we're up there, I think I'd definitely have a whole Nonna Maria pie made fresh... even if I didn't think we'd eat it all. I imagine a fresh pie would be absolutely divine.
Tiny place. Definitely has the feel of a slice joint. -

Bleecker Street Pizza. Best pizza I've ever had in my life? Quite possibly.
There are only two pizza places I can think of that deserve "Best Pizza" thus far in my life. 1.) Giordano's in Chicago and 2.) Bleecker Street Pizza. Two very different kinds of pizza, in fact, but oh so delicious regardless.
Bleecker Street Pizza has, hands down, the best pizza around, specifically their Nonna Maria. I just about died and went to heaven the first time I bit into all that delicious fresh mozzarella, homemade marinara sauce, parmesan, and fresh basil. I love me some mushroom pizza, too! Mmm! Everything is sold by the slice or in whole pie form. Decent prices, total mom-and-pop shop, great food. I've been asked by my friends back home in California to ship some to them Bleecker Street Pizza... Sorry, guys. Just means you'll have to come visit me here! :D -

best pizza in Manhattan
That's my two cents. I love this pizza. The sauce is simple, the crust is crisp, and they have generous toppings. It's also dirt cheap. During this trip I ate three slices in one day (on top of breakfast, lunch and dinner).
If there is an angry mob gathering somewhere because I didn't say Grimaldi's - stop. I believe my tagline says best pizza in Manhanttan, not New York. -
Review from Simon L.
Great pizza and may be the best slice I've had in awhile. The regular slice is pretty good - crispy with a nice balance of sauce and cheese although the flavor was slightly more bland than I prefer. However, the fresh mozzarella slice is even more awesome as you really taste the fresh ingredients.
We went there with a 50% off deal type thing and ate up a storm. If I'm in the area, I'd gladly stop by for a slice.
Oh, I should add that they have a pretty nice beer fridge as well! -

Manhattan, NY
I live a few blocks from here so I order delivery all the time. The pizzas are all very good - tangy tomato sauce, nicely burned crust. In the West Village though, you can find plenty of New York style pies of this quality (or better).
The real reason to come here is the Grandma Pie: delicious marinara sauce, parmigiana and mozzarella cheese and fresh garlic. Awesome and unique. Otherwise for traditional New York pies, I still head the street to Joe's or John's. -

Brooklyn, NY
On the hunt, craving a delicious slice of pizza. I heard so many good reviews about this pizza and was excited to try it. Worst mistake ever. I took one bite and my poor tongue quivered in despair. This pizza is not the worst I had but its up there. The crust is extremely hard, the topping is oily and salty. If you like crispy pieces of crust slicing the inside of your mouth then bon appetit. Otherwise, don't believe the hype.

Review from Jessica H.
KNICKERBOCKER, NY
I used a certificate at Bleecker Street Pizza, which entitled me to a Nonna Maria pizza, house salad, and two non-alcoholic beverages for almost half off. I hadn't been here before and assumed that the place was a restaurant, but it's more of a small pizza joint so I ordered everything to go.
The guys made my pizza fresh, which only took about 10-15 minutes to be ready. It looked good with the overlapping layers of olive oil, tomato, basil, and mozzarella, but it was only okay. The ingredients didn't come together, and the crust was just plain bread without any hint of flavor.
The house salad was really large with lots of toppings including tomatoes, olives, red onions, and red peppers. That's as much as I can say for it. It came with a packaged dressing, but there wasn't enough of it to saturate the salad so it was hard to finish what ended up just being a medley of raw veggies.
I'm glad I used the certificate (which gave me about 50% off the total) because I wouldn't have paid the $30 for the pizza and house salad. So much for the "best pizza in New York." John's nearby and Lombardi's are still the best pizza joints in the city, in my opinion. -

Manhattan, NY
Went in hungry, left hungry.
As much as I love NYC thin crust pizza, this place didn't cut it. Some crusts were too dark and wasn't much flavor to the dough.
Toppings, sauce, cheese were spot on, overall pretty good pizza but prices are high. -

I ordered pizza for delivery & I think it had bad cheese or something. Everyone who ate it was quite ill for the rest of the evening. Won't be back.
