Announced 3 weeks agoI say it's the best pizza in New york, beating all of the "Ray's Pizza" all over town. The Nonna Maria is their proud speciality and it very well should be. It's fresh mozzarella, marinara, parmesan, and basil. My mouth is watering thinking about it...

Who is blowing the guys at food Network, and paying Regis and Kelly, to rate this stuff the #1 pizza in NYC ( 2 years running ) ? Yes the Nona Maria was fresh out of the oven, but come on, it failed to pass the pizza litnus test. It immediately fell apart, but why? The crust is thin, but the tip was soggggy! It lacked texture, no pizza doughy, chewy goodness in the mix. I found it to be pretty one dimensional. They claim the marinara sauce is homemade, but it had no kick. Ever hear of fresh basil? onions? Oregano? Garlic? Boooring and safe for 2.75 a slice. You are better off walking east along Bleecker and heading to Joes.
I just bet Jimmy Kimmel thinks he is the man about town for introducing BSP to Regis and Kelly. Jimmy you aren't even funny, simply funny looking. What creature did you blow to get a late night TV talk show eh? Word of advice Jimmy K..eat salad dude...you are doughy enough without stuffing your cheeks with subpar pizza mmkay!

I thought the Food Network and I had similar tastes. After all, we both love Rachael Ray and don't even try to talk smack about my Barefoot Contessa.
But seriously, I must reconsider after the Food Network (and Regis and Kelly?) got my hopes up about Bleeker Street Pizza.
Were the producers taking their lunch breaks at Sbarro's everyday and one day figured that Bleeker Street was a notch above?
I gave it a fair shot. We tried it all. The regular. The Nona Maria. The Sicilian. No zing and nothing I'd dare write home about let alone put on television.
Okay, okay. It's certainly edible but two stars worthy and nothing more. Here's what they having going for them: the chunky tomatoes. Good job with that. Now go fix everything else or I'm walking over to John's.

YUM. Thin crust, loads of cheese, and just the right amount of sauce. They'll even warm it up for you. Service is pretty nice, but when it's busy, expect them to get to work, and not chat up with you. Don't take it personally. I like the fact they are open really late for those nights out on the town and you want something wholesome to eat instead of fast food.
Price is more than reasonable.
Bonus stars for their "People on Yelp loves us" sticker.

Aaand I have just found the best pizza in NY. Well obviously I am not the first to think this about BSP but I have been on quite a quest and now my work is complete. The Nonna Maria is amazing and only $2.75! This is true crispy thin-crust. You can hold the pizza and it won't bend. Some people might think it's too crispy but I think it is just right. Hooray for living in the West Village and BSP only being minutes away! I can't wait to get a whole pie delivered.

For the first time in my life, an Italian man approached me, clad with a thick, authentic Italiano-New Yorker accent and asked me, "....How YOU doin'?" This happened to me at Bleecker Street Pizza -- and I freakin' loved it.
I came here with a few friends after work based off of a resoundingly positive recommendation of a colleague and I was quite impressed. The pizza here is tasty and delicious and freshly made and flavorful.
Some tote this place as having the best pizza in all of NYC. While I'm not originally from New York and I don't live in Manhattan to eat pizza often enough to do a good comparison, I can say that I thought the slices I ordered here were mighty tasty. And uber-affordable, too!
If anything, come here on the off-chance that a Guido-esque man will approach you and ask you the age-old question, "....How YOU doin'?" ;-)

Bleecker Street has been touted as the best pizza in New York for the last two years by Food Network and even Kelly Ripa of Regis and Kelly says its the best pizza she had ever tasted so I had to try. And boy were they right, especially if you like thin crust pizza!
Their specialty pizza is the Nonna Maria, which is made with marinara, parmesan, mozzarella, and basil on a thin crust. The ingredients sound simple but by far it is not. The cheeses where not overcooked so it was chewy. Marinara sauce was not saucy and you can taste the tomatoes. And best of all was the thin crust. It was crispy and had a good taste to it. I ordered 2 slices of it and it was deeelicious as it just came out of the oven. I actually had to wait 10 minutes for it because the Nonna Maria is the most popular pizza and tends to sell out pretty quickly. I also had the pepperoni which was somewhat average. Although the pepperoni slices were plentiful and tasted like real fresh pepperoni, nothing else about it stood out.

Not to brag, but i do consider myself to be somewhat of a pizza enthuaist. maybe its from working in so many a place. but this is by far THE BEST SLICE I HAVE EVER HAD! the light crispy crust, the zesty and tangy sauce, loads of fresh cheese! WOW! the staff was quite cheerful and helpful. THESE GUYS DEFINATELY LIVE UP TO THIER REPUTATION AS THE BEST PIZZA IN NYC!!!! I will be back to try a few of their other delicious items.

i walked over 50 blocks for a slice of pizza...my friend and i are both visiting so, we got a bit lost. but, when we got there, we were super hungry. i ordered the cheese pizza. although i haven't eaten enough pizza in new york to compare, the pizza was pretty darn good. loved the thin/crispy crust, had just the right amount of sauce and cheese. service i thought was efficient. i will definitely go back to try the other pizzas. three slices and a drink was less than $10...not bad

This is the best NY-style pizza I've had. The crust is always perfectly thin (not TOO thin) and crisp, but not burned, the sauce is delicious and they don't drown it in cheese.
Plus, the Nonna Maria, which jas a chunky tomato sauce and fresh mozzarella is one of the best slices of pizza I've ever had anywhere.
The space isn't much to speak of but the service is quick and the delivery has been good.
I was reading all the rave reviews for the Nona Maria pizza (that's a Marguerita pizza, right?).
Anyway, on a gorgeous Spring evening, I took my date to Bleeker Street -- and was telling her how great this pizza was.
We both ordered the Nona Maria -- when the guy reheated it, I asked him not to heat it too much because I don't like hot molten cheese burning the roof of my mouth.
It's a bit too crispy for her taste. She likes some doughiness under the crispy crust exterior she tells me.
Also the sauce was alright -- it didn't call out with that sweetness I like in a good tomato sauce.
So we were disappointed -- but at $2.75/slice, I'll give it one extra star.

I thank God that I don't throw like a girl and I thank God that I live a block away from Bleecker Street Pizza for 8 years.
It's the crust and texture that makes their pizza stand out as one of the best. The crunch, the perfect amount of sauce on their signature Nona Maria, and most importantly you don't feel like a fat boy after two slices.
Yes, the staff is very nonchalant of your presence, but so would I if I had to serve slices of pizza all day and to the drunk patrons of New York, no offense. Go there enough and they'll remember you.
From a delivery aspect, prices are fair and delivery time is standard. One time, I was inside ordering slices and heard one of the main employees hand a pie to Pedro and reiterated him to bike slow, "lot of toppings, ok?"
I hate it when you order a pizza and it comes to your apt. all messy like Pizza The Hut from Spaceballs.

Loved the Nona Maria slice w/ tons of tomato sauce and cheese. However, the crust was a bit TOO crunchy and thin for my taste. I have definitely had better crust elsewhere. The toppings are great though.
PRICES BY THE SLICE/PIE
Regular $2.25/$16.50
Nona Maria $2.75/$20.00
Grandma $2.75/$20.00
Toppings $0.75/$2.50 first, $1.50 additional

This is where you can find the most delicious pizza in all of NYC! My favorite is without a doubt the signature Nonna Maria pie: thin crust, fresh mozzarella, and chunky tomato sauce. Mmmmm delicioso! I even love their Sicilian--and usually I'm not a fine of that type of pie. If you're planning on sitting inside to each lunch it can get pretty crowded, especially when the tour guides drop groups off; but it's definitely worth the wait!!

Simply put: great pizza with good thin-crust (as in doesn't totally wilt when you pick it up). Not that great of an ambiance - nor is it really possible to sit all together with a large group - but worth it for the pizza. One of the best pies in new york.
Yowza! The absolute best pizza in all of New York City. As a native New Yorker, I've had my fair share of pizzas, Bleecker Street Pizza is nirvana.
i went tonight with the delightful Rachel A, her sister and her boyfriend. We had the Nonna Maria, I think, and it was absolute heaven. Thin crust, real cheese, fresh basil and crushed tomatoes. For the first time in my life, I gobbled the entire slice, including the crust.
I may go there every single day.

I just had the best pizza East of Oakland, CA (more on this later).
The Nona Maria is their signature pizza and it's better than John Hancock. Everything was perfect - the crust, the sauce, the cheese, and the ambiance. It wasn't crowded when I was there and I watched a group of 10 (one lucky guy and nine not so lucky gals) savor their pizza.
So why the Oakland, CA reference? If you truly want the best pizza that I have ever tasted, check out Zachary's in Oakland, CA.

"The Best Specialty Slice in New York", quite a claim I realize, but the Nonna Maria at Bleecker St. Pizza, with a bed of grated Grande Mozzarella supporting slices of Fresh Mozzarella and large dollops of garlicky, tomatoey Marinara sauce, all sprinkled with top-of-the-line Parmigiano-Reggiano, is a recipe for pizza perfection.
Proclaiming "best" status for a slice of pizza is not easy, but here are the deciding factors:
1) Overall Taste: The combination of superior ingredients and an interestingly flavored crust, which leads us to...
2) Crust: Light, airy, crispy on the outside, chewy on the inside; possesses a unique flavor. Sturdy enough to support the weight of the slice without falling apart.
3) Sauce: Superior ingredients, not overly sweet or bitter. Its presence is not overbearing but provides a sometimes subtle, sometimes powerful flavor.
I'm a supporter of the argument that the only true test of a slice joint's supremacy is their plain slice, which is also delicious at Bleecker Street Pizza (BSP), but it's no Nonna Maria, a specialty slice that falls into its own category.
What make's this slice so good is the melding of flavors. Every pie at BSP is dotted with freshly grated Parmigiano-Reggiano. Valued at $14-$15/pound, this cheese is bought in bulk, with one huge wheel running BSP upwards of $1,000. The result is that each pie is sprinkled with at least $8.00 worth of delicious and fresh Parmigiano-Reggiano. The cheese also shows up in the all of the sauces, including the Marinara, a recipe of the owner's grandmother, whom the Nonna Maria is named after. Whereas a lot of slice joints use generic, grated Parmesan, BSP makes sure that even at the most basic level, their pizza is overflowing with fresh, delicious ingredients. I tasted a little bit of the parm-reggiano; it was slightly firm, slightly sharp, and after a second, it all melted in my mouth. Delicious.
The crust at BSP is very crunchy, and while the flavor is ordinary, it's not a crust that flourishes on its own. The crust serves the purpose of support, as I referred to in point 2 of the "best" factors, allowing the eater to lift the Nonna Maria by its end crust and not have the slice fold under its own weight.
Led by an inviting plume of smoke you would see in a Tom & Jerry cartoon, my nose first led me to BSP one warm summer morning 4 years ago. The smell of garlic and pizza dough drew me into BSP right as the counter guys were placing a fresh pie of Nonna Maria in the showcase. Two satisfying slices later, I knew I had found a quality spot. BSP marked their 4th anniversary in January and the pizza is unchanged; still satisfying, still delicious, still a no nonsense slice joint.
I also strongly recommend the Grandma Slice at BSP. Compared to the Nonna Maria, it's thinner, fluffier, and less crisp. It has a thin layer of olive oil and garlic beneath its blanket of mozzarella and healthy dollop of marinara. It's one of the better Grandma Slices I've had in the city.
---------
BSP, on the corner of 7th Ave. & Bleecker St. is in the middle of all the action. Weekends they're open until 5AM and until 2AM during the week. I know a lot of people who think Joe's Pizza on Carmine & Bleecker is the best slice you can get after a night on the town, but I beg to differ.
Next time you're in the West Village, forget about waiting on line at Joe's and risk getting a small, overcooked slice with generic mozzarella for $2.50. Instead, walk up Bleecker to 7th Avenue and spend the same amount of money on a Nonna Maria, letting your inebriation yield to the intoxicating aromas of garlic, tomato, and Parmigiano-Reggiano wafting together in wisps of pizza goodness.

Good pizza - thin crust, but it was a little too hard for my taste.
I like thin and doughy - light feeling - this was a thin crust
but broke off rather hard.
Sauce = delicious!! Tangy and perfectly seasoned, very good amount
of sauce under lots of cheese.
A little too greasy - got a boring slice of cheese, but it was still tasty.
Good for a quick slice, will try the other kinds of slices next time...
Best chicken parm heros in the city too! Done just right. Tasty chicken, great sauce and lots of cheese on perfectly toasted bread. I trek down from Times Square on lunch to get one every now & then.

Ok. Here's the thing. I was SLIGHTLY intoxicated. Big deal. It was New Year's.
That being said, I was jonesing for food. Someone mentions Bleecker Pizza. So, I step myself on over. Order a few slices.
HEAVEN! I loved this shit. It was so good! You know the tomato sauce that Spagetti-o's are served in? Tomatos and a little sweetness? That's what the pizza tasted like! So good!
This place was so good in fact, that it deserves 5 stars, regardless of the cunt-whore who pushed Harrison at the door and told him that "He was a rude asshole and shouldn't cut in line in front of someone." He stated that I was in line and he was just going to stand with me, she said, "It doesn't matter ass. Where are you manners?!"
Where are his manners? Shouldn't you be checking for yours? As well as your class, being as you were walking around the streets of New York City without your shows on. That's gross.
Yeah...the pizza is so good that I am still giving it five-stars regardless of this crackhead...

Yum! I love visiting places that Food Network has reviewed. And guest who won for best thin crust pizza... Bleecker Street Pizza! My friend Diana had suggested this place while we were in NYC. Even though we got lost and it took us forever to find this place, it was well well worth it. I just had a slice of the fresh mozzarella and homemade marinara and it was excellent. The crust was delightfully crispy and tasty. If it weren't for the awfully disgusting bathroom and the rude counter guy, I would have given this place a 5!

This place serves up a great pizza. If you get pepperoni, prepare for a little grease, but you'll be satisfied. I'm not sure it is the best pizza in NYC, but I can't think of any place that is better.
Update: Have you ever had a pie layed in front of you and it was steaming? I literally watched steam come off of this pizza as it was fresh out of the oven. Doug, the owner, had this pie especially made for my friends and I. We got a new pie on the house, drinks included with table service. And I said Bleecker Street Pizza was nothing fancy. I eat my words.
The Nonna Maria pizza is great. It's neither over bearing nor underflavored. It's perfect in its own light. My group ate every piece on the silver plate and this pie was large and in charge I tell you. LARGE!
I really thank the Bleecker Street Pizza guys for going out of their way for making my friends and I feel at home. If you want great service and HOT pizza, go for the Nonna Maria. It is indeed better than the plain cheese. I will come back and not just by myself but with 50 of my closest friends. The pies are HUGE! Bring your appetite. Yum!

If I had read the Yelp reviews earlier and had gotten a Nonna Maria slice, maybe I would have two extra stars to give. Instead I ordered a plain cheese and was not wowed.
The pizza was good. Not too greasy. The cheese was of perfect proportion. The crust was thin and crispy. The slice was also a cheap eat ($2).
I may have had a true NY snack but I wouldn't really recommend this place to anyone. I'm actually quite curious about Lombardi's or Grimaldi's. I'll try those places and see how they rate in the NY pizza category. NY pizza is supposed to be out of this world right?

As we made our way to Famous Joe's Pizza after our disappointing trip to Magnolia's Bakery, we ran into Bleecker Street Pizza. This place had not made my list but as I checked my iPhone for directions to Joe's, I ran across some Bleecker Street reviews so when we came across the tiny pizzeria, we decided to share a slice. Their fresh mozzarella and marinara sauce pizza immediately caught my eye so we sat down to give it a taste. Despite the visible smattering of herbs all over the top, the pizza remained low on flavor. On the upside, the crust was light and crunchy, and the end crust had a satisfying crunch. Perhaps the pepperoni would have had more pizzaz. Some day we'll go back to give it a second try.

Within 1-2 blocks, you'll find three pizza joints. Joe's Pizza, John's of Bleecker street, and Bleecker street pizza. I've had all three, and I pick "Bleecker Street Pizza" the winner!
Service: typical pizzeria~ buy your slice, grab your drink, pay, and get out.
Quality: Personally, I think Bleecker Street pizza has the best pizza among the three in the neighborhood. 1. Bleecker 2. Joe's 3. John's (That's if I feel like standing around in a line for some overrated, watery whole pie.)
Quantity: This is where Bleecker needs to improve. As you can see in the photo, their slices are very small. How about some bigger pieces? If you want a bigger slice, try the Joe's Pizza (aka spiderman pizza place, and no one cares about how good they are..)
Restroom: Disgusting one person restroom and they put a table right next to it... they need to do something about that.
Conclusion: If you're in the neighborhood, try 1. Bleecker street, 2. Joe's 3. John's (The restaurant that says NO SLICE, with long line of people that has no idea whether or not this place is any good... it's good if you enjoy eating water soaked pizza.)
If you want real pizza, goto Grimaldi's... avoid the other watery pizza place called "lombardi's". Grimaldi rules!
I loved the Nonna Maria--esp the flavor of the sauce and the crispiness of the crust. And I wasn't even drunk.
The service was pretty damn slow so that's why I've taken off one star.

I'm a New York thin crust pizza kind of guy and this place has great stuff. Pepperoni slice: Nice thin crust that is perfectly crispy yet chewy, really great sauce, rich tasty cheese, and perfect pepperoni taste to round it out. Simple and humble pizza place like it should be. And if the NYC police is eating here, that must be a really good sign.
Bottom line: Don't know if it's the best in NYC, but if you're a NY thin crust pizza purist, this place is damn good. Simple but good, nothing fancy.

Very good, but there are better slices in NY. The Nonna Maria slice is the best they have, and it comes complete with fresh mozzarella cheese and a tasty, chunky tomato sauce. Unfortunately, I think they put too much sauce on the slice, so you don't really get to taste the wonderful fresh mozzarella. The Grandma slice looks very good, but doesn't measure up to the Nonna Maria. Service is about what you'd expect from a NY pizzeria. Rude. But if you're in NY, that's the way you should like it.
For something similar to the Nonna Maria slice but tastier, I'd recommend Angelo's in Midtown.

As loyal as I am to my Pizza Plus (cf. ode of said establishment), the gourmet in me must admit that this is way better pizza. Case in point, I devoured three slices of it as two friends and I wandered aimlessly around the village enjoying the balmy, breezy summer night.
Why four stars then? Well, I had two slices of mushroom and a slice of their famous fresh mozzarella (which is every bit as good as they say), but that was literally all they had available. No pepperoni, no veggie, no nothing else. Mushroom, cheese, and mozzarella. Now, I'm a toppings guy, so I like options. Give me options, BSP! So minus a star for that, but yeah, this is a classic, tasty New York slice.
