One of Bleecker Street Pizza's Favorite Reviews What's This?
Bleecker Street Pizza has some of the best tasting pizza I've ever had. The texture and flavor of the crust is perfect and the toppings are fresh and delicious! What's even better is that you can grab this goodness by the slice, which makes it totally convenient. If you have no problem finishing an entire pie, not to worry... you can do that too. What I love about the slices is that you can try several types of pizza all in one sitting.
I tried the Nonna Maria, grandma, and mushroom pizza. The mushroom pizza is amazing! They definitely do not skimp on the mushrooms. That baby was loaded! The Nonna Maria was my favorite... the pizza itself is pretty simple (marinara, mozzarella, parmesan, basil), but it's the quality and freshness of the ingredients that make this pizza awesome, and I love the thin crispy crust. The grandma has similar ingredients, but is made on a thick crust. If I didn't have plans for a big dinner the day I went, I think I could have inhaled a slice of everything they have. Can't wait to go back next time I'm in NY!
It's the end of the Rangers game. We're starving. We want pizza. But where to go? Lombardi's is going to close soon. I remember Bleecker Street Pizza as one of the places I wanted to try for authentic NY-style pizza. We check when it closes. 4AM? Immediately, we hit the subway, anticipating pizza heaven.
The place is relatively small and fortunately only a few patrons were there enjoying their pies. I know the Nonna Maria is the popular pizza, but for us voracious meat eaters, we ordered a full pie with pepperoni, sausage, and chicken. It was going to take 10 minutes we were told. So we sat at one of the tables and waited. And waited. It was 25 minutes until our pizza was ready. 15 extra minutes may seem like no big deal but when you're starving as if you've haven't eaten in days, that extra time is an eternity.
The pizza was huge. The slices overflowed over the flimsy paper plates we were given. As you grab a slice, half the cheese and toppings slided off onto a combination of the pizza pan, table, and paper plate. No matter. Grab a fork and scoop it back onto the pizza. Fold the pizza in half and enjoy. Everything was great, from the crispy pizza bottom to the delicious, piping hot toppings. It's definitely NY pizza at its finest.

I'm from California and finally satisfied my year-long craving of NY style pizza at Bleecker Street. If you order an entire pie you can add whatever toppings you want, but if you order by the slice, what you see is what you get! I came for a 1pm lunch on a Friday and the line wasn't too bad - it was about a 10 minute wait. They try to get the line moving along so you better know what you want when you get to the counter. The Nonna Maria had just come out of the oven so I had to get mee-self a slice of that beauty. Also got another slice of Sicilian.
Nonna Maria - super thin crust slathered with their specially made marinara sauce, topped with bubbling, melted cheese (they use fresh parmigiano reggiano & mozzarella), and finished with bits of fresh basil. Mmmmm...
Sicilian - didn't look like your normal round pie - it came out in a rectangular shaped format and the crust is slightly thicker and doughier than your typical NY pizza. It really hit the spot.
Like most NYC places, this place is very cramped with only 3-4 small tables and a bathroom the size of a broom closet. Come here for the food, not for the ambiance.
This place was voted #1 NYC pizza by the Food Network, so if you're in the area drop in for a bite!

I'll join the chorus singing praises for Bleecker Street Pizza. I loved the Nonna Maria enough that I instantly regretted ordering one piece and a salad instead of two slices. The crispy super thin crust was awesome and I loved the chunky sauce and fresh cheese.
The place was packed and seating was tight and every sort of person was dropping in... They've pimped out the fact that Food Network loves them-there's signs all over! I have to agree with their endorsement. It's delicious pizza. Did I mention I ordered an extra slice and took the salad home for later???

Voted best NY pizza 2 years in a row by Food Network, this pizza joint was cozy & very small, but the pizza was BIG on taste! I had cheese & mushroom, one slice filled me up =)
Next time your in NY, in the village, stop by Bleeker St.

Fabulous pizza. I eat pizza at least five times a week. This hands down the best pizza (I've tried every pizza shop below 59th st.). The Nonna Maria pizza might be the best food I've ever eaten (Sorry Mom).

Whenever I crave pizza this is the first place that comes to mind. Now, as a lady we all know we get those cravings. But as a New Yorker its PIZZA! The other night a couple of girlfriends were talking about what good New York Pizza is... Of course this place to came to mind! Oh Bleecker Street Pizza, why must you make the most delicious, addicting pizza in all of NYC. We got my two favorite types. If you are going to do it right and have some time to spare, this is pizza place is where you should order a deliciously hot pie. I always get get half Nonna Maria and half mushroom. The pizza sauce is tangy, yet full of flavor. No wonder the Food Network Named it Best Pizza in New York. The crust is always crispy and never burned and the cheese always has the right amount. Never too much and never too little. Hands down the best pizza place! Even my girlfriends were impressed I knew of this place. Thank you Bleecker Street Pizza! You have a piece of my heart.
5 stars for always making me think of you and your tasty pies!
also, props for cleaning up the bathroom!

Their pizza is so good that my boyfriend asked me to bring some back to San Francisco. It's that good, ladies and gentlemen.
If you go, definitely get the Sicilian and the Nonna Maria. Notice I didn't say and/or, I said AND. Because you must. Try both. Although if you really don't have the stomach space, I say go for the Sicilian.
Fresh ingredients, so simple and yet so tasty. My boy and I tried to replicate this but we failed gloriously. I wonder if they'll deliver to the West Coast?

I was in the area being a lost visitor and saw some guy turn the corner with this awesome slice being that it was 10am and since i was on a mission to try out as many pizza joints as possible i figured hey why not I had a small breakfast.
Sooo.. I went in and chatted with the 2 guys who were super nice they suggested their special I believe it's called the Nonna Maria. Let me tell you I'm absolutely pissed that I split the slice with my husband and didn't get a whole pie! I am even more ticked off that i got talked into taking home crappy 'Two Boots' pizza (2 pies on a plane back to San Diego) I should have cabbed it to Bleeker and grabbed a dozen pies to take home.
To the guy behind the corner who mentioned he visits san diego sometimes PLEASE bring me a pie ... best pizza i've ever had -- hands down .. no contest!
Good job!
Apparently, this is the best pizza in NY, says Food Network. Well, we didn't know before we came; i just felt like pizza and it was still open so in we went.
It's a small place; there are a few tables and chairs inside and outside, but it's not a large dining area.
Nothing memorable about the service; I'm just rating taste, mind you.
What a fatty; I had a slice of cheese and a square of Sicilian. If I could describe it, I'd say this is the ideal NY pizza: fairly big slice, thin & crisp crust, robust sauce, and melty cheese, all for under $3. The Sicilian had a thicker crust, sauce and cheese, but it was all good to me.
I don't know if it's the BEST in NY since there are so many that I haven't gotten a go at, but it's definitely good and worth trying. I'd certainly return.
Note: They also have beers for around $3. (Yay for beer!)
I've done John's and Joe's.
For NY style pizza, it's where the B&T crowd goes.
I've had Grimaldi's and Lombardi's,
Favorite of double-decker bus folks & host to kiddy birthday parties.
Quality and service at these tourist spots can be hit or miss.
Not worth a visit since I've had better pizza than this.
No pizza has ever made me feel weaker,
Than the Tuscan style Nonna Maria from Bleecker.
All it takes is one slice to get me spastic.
This specialty pizza is truly fantastic!
Ingredients:
Fresh mozzarella, parmigiano-reggiano cheese, San Marzano tomatoes, homemade marinara sauce, fresh basil, olive oil, and garlic
The crust of baked breadcrumbs is light, sturdy, & crunchy like toast.
This part I love the most!
The sauce is not too sweet, bitter, or overbearing.
I find the unique spicy flavors bold and daring.
Oh tawny Tony,
My one and only...
I agree this pizza is the best.
Thanks for the taste test!
I enjoy pairing this with Cavit.
You know me with pizza & cheap house wine...Gotta have it!
Doug, your surname may not sound so Italian.
In my book you'll always be my stallion!

Most excellent pizza!
I love me a nice, tasty slice of thin crust pizza, and this did the trick. The crust was crispy and super thin, just the way I like it. The cheese was piping hot. The sauce was flavorful.
The whole thing was so fresh and hot that it burned my friend's mouth. Painful, but it was still a very delicious slice!
Half a star taken away because it took them quite a while to get us our pizza (we ordered a whole pie), and another half star docked because the bathroom is the size of a broom closet, maybe even smaller. How would a fat person fit in it??
Other than that, this was a fantastical slice of pizza and deserving of all the attention it gets. I wish I could eat a slice of this stuff every week!
I am the queen of drunken munchies; after my 4th drink I will always crave food. Sometimes, it's street meat, occasionally it's Pomme Frites...but if I'm in the West Village, it's *ALWAYS* Bleecker Street. The pizza, specifically.
The Grandma's slice is exactly like it's namesake; warm, squishy, and oh-so-comforting (well...at least *my* grandma.) It's baked in a pan Sicilian-style, only the crust is a little thinner, but much more buttery, crispy and still chewier than the aforementioned pizza. Topped with a chunky tomato sauce that full of thyme, rosemary (and crack - I swear), they then scatter fresh mutz and basil all over (and possibly more crack - why else would this pizza be so addictive?)
And all of this yummy goodness is about $3 a square.
Now, I know some of you would love to complain about the price, with this being a recession and all, but keeping in mind that crappy Sbarro's and ubiquitous Original Ray's charge this much for their bastardization (read: boring and bland, over-baked and under-sauced) of a floppy New York slice, you're getting a real deal here. Plus, at the size of my hand, the Grandma's slice is fcuking huge!
So the next time you find yourself wasted in the WestVill, take those crumpled singles you've been using to tip the bartender, get on line with the rest of the late night drunks and order a Grandma's slice to absorb some of that booze in your system. Your subsequent lack of a hangover will thank you.

Best pizza ever! The nonna maria is great, but don't miss out on their pepperoni. Just get both!
The toppings and ingredients really set these slices apart. I'd say Joe's has a better crust, but the toppings give Bleecker Street the edge.
I came here 2 or 3 times during my last trip to NY. Even though the interior is small, it was never really too difficult to get a table.
I didn't want to wait on line at Keste so I decided to stop by. The super thin crust pizza has gotten better but it's all about the nice flavorful sauce.
The grandma nonna slice is what put them on the map. It's good but this is one of the few times I actually prefer the sicilian. Not the best crust but it is able to hold more of that delicious sauce with chunks of tomato. I would seriously use that sauce over pasta.
Not close to being in DiFara's league but it's a little better than your average neighborhood pizza place to grab a slice. I would normally give it 3 stars but will toss in a bonus 4th star for opening until 4 A.M. This is after all, the city that never sleeps.
Cheers!
N.
I think it's awesome that NYC has so many pizza places! We went to Bleeker Street Pizza as it was named the best pizza on Food Network.
I felt it was a bit disappointing. I didn't find it to be any more special than the other pepperoni pizzas I've had at other joints in NYC.
I did also have a bite of my girlfriend's slice which was a specialty pizza (what it was slips my mind) and I did think that was better.
The best pizza I've had in my life.. umm.. no.
I think the pizza is too crispy almost like a cracker. I prefer something that is at least slightly doughy. Not quite my cup of tea.
Their Nonna Maria is the best pizza you will ever eat-period.
Every New Year's Eve that I am in NY, my bride and I go to Blecker, order a Nonna and celebrate the New Year with this fantastic pizza and a bottle of fine champagne. Our tradition. It works. Every time. Gourmet meets gourmet.
Forget the pineapple and the rest of the crap. The tomato reduction and fresh mozzarella is killing.
Go RED SOX.
Best margerita slices in the City and its open late so after the bars hit it up.
This is my favorite place in the Village, and perhaps all of NYC, for a slice of pizza. The Nonna Maria is a sure thing - delicious, fresh, and cheap.
The place is run by Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum, so placing, receiving, and paying for your order can be a fiasco, especially when the store is busy. But, other than that, this place is definitely worth it.
This place is terrible. What is wrong with you people? It's pizza that sits out all day with flies crawling on it. This place blows. Cheesy NY pizza shops with overrated pizza
Awesome, thin-crust pizza. The one with homemade mozzarella was awesome. Crisp, thin crust.
This was the only pizza place we made it to on your last trip to NY. I wish we could get NY pizza here in LA. Can it really be that hard?
Bleeker was really good. We got their special pizza...I think it's called the Nona Maria, or something like that. I can't remember. It was great. Love the crunchy crust and yummy sauce/cheese.
You can't go wrong at Bleeker.
Looking for a place to eat cheaply in the WV is sometimes hard. This place is on the corner of 7th ave. Its a small little pizza shop that has a giant sign outside advertising that it has the 'best pizza in NY' SO many pizza places on Bleecker seem to claim the same thing its hard to decide what place to go to to get this 'best pizza'
A plain slice here runs for $2.50. Not bad for the size that you get.
Its made in a giant oven located right behind the register so you can always see them making it fresh all day long.
There are maybe 5-6 tables in the whole thing so good luck if you want to sit down to enjoy your pizza during the rush hours.
Overall it was good pizza, fresh ingredients and hot right out of the oven.
Now best pizza that I have ever had? I think that is over exaggerating it just a little.

Good pizza. Had the nona and mushroom. Both were solid. Thinner crust and light. Comparable to Joe's. I say try both and see which one you like, both are good.
Bottom line, in the battle between good and bad pizza, this one's on the good side. Like the Luke Skywalker of pizza.

We came here on our food tour right after being at Joes Pizza. They were voted best pizza in NYC by the Food Network, i dont know if its the best but it was pretty damn good. They have seating indoors and outdoors. One of their sectrets to their pizza is that instead of using prepared pizza sauce they just use canned tomatoes as their base. As a bonus there are a lot of cute guys that work there, for all the ladies.
This is so far my favorite pizza in NYC. I can't say it's the best ever because I don't claim to have tried that many pizza places. But out of where I have been at, this is the place I keep coming to again and again. For me, it has to be the crust. It's thin, crispy on the bottom side of the layer, with the perfect amount of chewiness as you take a bite off. Now, how often do you get to compliment the underside of the pizza? In fact, everything about it is exceptional, just the right amount of cheese, a tangy and not as sweet sauce. The ingredients are kept to a moderate amount and so work well with each other. I'm not a big fan of having way too much sauce or way too much cheese.
As far as the service, I've been reading how rude they always are. I don't get the same experience, they've always been civil with me, or at least as much as I would expect from any pizza joint. I mean are they friendly as say a stereotypical do-gooder waitress at Applebee's? Well, no. Why would you expect them to be?
One word of caution: I find the pizza to be tastier if you order slice by slice. I think it's something that applies to pizza in general. There's something about the taste of it where once it's done, you leave it out for a while, and throw it back in a hot oven to reheat for a few minutes. I think that's what makes the texture the way it is. You don't really get that when you order out a pie and take it home, while the heat inside the box is steaming the pizza.
On a recent trip down to New York for a convention my buddy says to me as we're leaving the convention, "Let's grab a slice of pizza on the way home." I, a lover of all foods, said, "OK" and so we made a trip to Bleecker Street Pizza.
At first glance you probably would pass by Bleecker Street Pizza because you probably would miss it, even with people sitting in front of the place. Upon closer observation you see that there is a pizza shop in a very small room. It is very cramped in the shop, it probably only sits 12 people at most, and at least 20 if everyone stood. The pizza here is great! Thin crust, crunchy dough, sweet sauce, great toppings. The service on the other hand is very New York. Quickly tell what you want, get it, pay it, get the heck out. UNLESS you are a regular and are very buddy buddy with the guys behind the counter, which because I wasn't and because I don't talk New York I was given a hard time. That's right a Boston guy ate some New York Pizza, which wasn't bad. Like I said, I like food and am not judgmental of where it comes from. If it's good I tell it like it is, and here at Bleecker Street, the pizza is good. And it also is a great price for what you get.
Overall I'd eat at Bleecker Street Pizza again, maybe try another type than cheese. Great place for a quick bite and well worth the money!
Got a tiip on this place from a friend and had to try it on vacation. Good thin crust pizza with fresh toppings. Try the non std fare like the Tuscan style nona marie....but the pepperoni was good too
The Nonna Maria (pizza Margarita) was amazing! No, it was fucking bomb dig yo and I'm not just saying that because I was starving. I have no problem polishing off a medium pizza on my own. If I had known this pizza would have been that fantastic I would have called in advance, made sure there was a sufficient number of slices for a fat girl on a rampage, and proceeded to eat each bite with joy and enthusiasm. However, I was in a rush so I inhaled a slice while sipping a Pinot Gri: (http://www.yelp.com/bi...). You got to be kidding me! This place is too good to be true.
The pepperoni slice, however, was average, but I was still hungry after the first slice and people were coming in here left and right getting slices to go, as well as pick ups.
The store is no thrills. In fact it is somewhat dingy, but there are seats and you can enjoy your food in a rush or savor it and annoy people who want to sit down. I wish I had a pizza place like this back home.

I had 2 slices. A mushroom slice and the Nonna Maria. The mushroom was eh but the Nonna Maria was fantastic, great fresh mozarella and crispy crust.
This pizza was not for me. I had the Nonna Maria with eggplant and could not eat the crust - reminded me of a cake ice cream cone. It was...I don't know, dry, like a cake cone and thick but really airy and bland.
The sauce and cheese and eggplant were good, but could not get over the crust. eehhhh.

(From a San Francisco tourist)
In this little hole-in-the-wall as I ate the simple little heaven-in-a-mouthful (delicate thin crust with definite crunch, cheesy fresh mozzarella, and tart tomato) I couldn't help but think:
"I am SO disappointed in you "Arizmendi Bakery", "Pizzetta 211", "Pizzeria Delfina", "Pazzia Restaurant & Pizzeria", "Rose's Cafe", "Pauline's Pizza Pie", "Postrio", and "Pizza Antica"... because despite having fresh ingredients from your own garden, Wolfgang Puck in your history, or items like truffles, poached egg, kale, broccoli, potato, onion, artichoke, and capers...you can't make a pizza like THIS."
My world's gone upside down. East coast pizza tastes better. I'm so ashamed.

On our first day in NYC we walked passed this place, saw the Food Network sign, and knew (that even after we had just ate) that we had to try a slice.
The place itself is quite small and make sure you watch your step. We ordered a cheese & Nonna Maria. I'm not sure if our pizzas should've been in the oven for longer, but it just wasn't what I was hoping for. Being a huge fan of Food Network I was expecting a pizza that would 'rock my socks' and it just did not deliver. Don't get my wrong, the pizza was delicious, just not the best slice I've had during my countless visits to NYC.
It is worth a try, but probably not worth going out of your way for. So if we didn't just so happen to be in the neighborhood to try another Food Network advertised place *cough*Taim*cough*, then we probably would've never made a special trip out to visit this place.

I've been craving it all day but refused to give in. I've got a bridesmaid dress to fit into in a week-and-a-half. Then someone was savvy enough to bring home two slices of Nonna Maria without prompting! I'll take it. My lucky day.
The first time I had Bleecker St Pizza it was delivery. The product was so fancy-tasting (!) I expected the restaurant to be on par. It is not. However, I like that the inside looks crappy and you have to fight for a seat. If it were nicer in there, there'd be a Magnolia-style line down the street.
A previous reviewer conjectured that there is MSG in the pizza. I think it's more likely heroin. Little known fact: overripe tomatoes and aged Parmesan are sources of natural MSG. So it's entirely possible, and wholly delicious. Who cares?

They love tourists! Went here in the wee hours of the morning on my 5 day trip from LA. Cousin suggested to eat the "best pizza in nyc" according to Kelly&Regis.
So we did... little to grasp from the design of the place, but the employees were very kind and let me, the tourist, come behind the scenes and for a brief moment, be a pizza chef.
Ordered a mango snapple and cheese pizza. Nothing spectacular, but that's maybe because I'm used to fatty SoCal pizzas.
Still a good place to visit.
Once upon a time, a plucky young girl finished her junior year of college in New England and impulsively bought a summer bed in Sheridan Square, harboring high hopes of courting chance and romance in New York City. s To this end, she secured a job teetering with trays of cosmopolitans on Seventh Avenue, and gradually evolved into the weeknight, and then weekend bartender.
Those were rough and wonderful times. She polished lovingly faux-onyx counters, lengths of mirror, music-box Chambord bottles; readied the Georgi and wide-lipped martini glasses for happy hour, and sliced limes and applied eyeliner in preparation for the nighttime rush that overtakes the West Village in summer. Then, for the ensuing eight hours, she'd pop beer tops, pour gin, replenish ice, play nice, smoke Lights, skewer olives, shake shakers, shake booty, chew cherries. She indulged in a number of bad habits to keep herself afloat and alive; she was mostly blind, deaf and swimming in cigarette smoke and whiskey buzz. by four in the morning.
The event signaling close of each exhaustive night wasn't the first light of dawn, but rather, the ritualistic arrival of Two Plain Pies from the kind proprietors at Bleeker Street Pizza. We'd pause in our dredging of sloppy soppies to eat and savor thin, hot, cheese pizza with cranberry-juice-pinked fingers. It was always the best part of the night - when all the authentic hardships of New York - labor, exhaustion, substance - dissolved, by way of melted mozzarella, into all the authentic happinesses.

Wow, the chicken pizza was one of the best slices I ever had, it blows all my fancy hometown California pizza away even if it didn't have any goat cheese, figs, stinging nettle, eggs, or caviar foam on top.
Counter service, grab a seat if you can find it, no atmosphere except watching the bustling line, a little hole in the wall.

Good pizza...but not amazing. Maybe I went on an off-day, but it tasted like pizza that was just slightly above average. Grimaldi's takes the cake...or crust in this instance.
