Man do I miss skateboarding. I was getting banged up too much and hurt my ankle pretty bad so I had to put her(the skateboard) down I don't feel like a poser because I still wear skateboarder clothes, because if you gave me a board my ollie is still solid, and heelflip actually still in tact.
I used to make the blades on 86th street back in the day my afterschool destination with my friends when I was in middle school. I bought all my sneakers, and completes from there. I miss that place so much(tear, tear). I knew the guys there in first name basis and even although it closed down I still feel so welcomed whenever I go into a blades.
I went in here after passing it because my cousin wanted to go somewhere else. I dragged him back and saw the latest Supras, Lakai's , and tons of Vans amongst other of the latest kicks. They of course had Nixon watches galore, and a nice upstairs area with skateboard bags, and snowboard stuff.
They also had a bunch of fresh to death G-shocks, and I practically drolled on the glass. I bought this sweet OBEY hat, with the abstract eyes on the bottom brim. Of course my cousin had to follow suit. We got the last two but I know they will re-stock.
Needless to say he was happy that we went in(poser lol). Blades will always have a place in my heart, and even though I don't skate a skateboarder will always be inside of me. Blades in a nice store with good people, and good prices. You cannot go wrong. For the ladies the selection isn't bad either. I saw this cute girl copping some Roxy stuff, and some element tees. They have a variety of skateboard brands which is what it's all about, spreading the love.
Question that I have every skated...even 50 years from now, and I will pop-shuvit and heelflip until my hearts content. God Bless Blades Board and Skate and God Bless skateboarders everywhere. Keep grinding, keep kick pushing.

This place has gotten worse and worse over the years, which is saying something because I already thought it was pretty bad when I first stepped in here 4 years ago. It seems they are starting to go more towards clothing (their whole downstairs) which might be a good idea because their skate and snowboard department (upstairs) is like a desert. Also they hire a bunch of weirdos at this place who clearly don't want to be there and clearly don't care if they make a sale. My buddy wanted to buy a watch, the clerk dug around for about 2 seconds looking for the one he wanted and then said "I don't think we have that one". Ummm ok then why don't you give him the one on display idiot!?!?!
Someone please help this palce or close it down.

I can't say whether or not Blades is a good place to find skate & board equipment (and, judging by the reviews here, perhaps it's not), but I know I can always find interesting t-shirts here. Most notably, they carry designs by ONLY NY, one of the best designers in the city.

This is a typical board shop. The selection is what it is for being a small shop in downtown Manhattan. The guys who work there are helpful, knowledgable, not too pushy. I think they know their selection is lame relative to the online retailers so they're not going to push people to buy the few snowboards on their racks.
Their weekend ski/snowboard trip to Hunter is a good deal and very well executed. If only they went to a better mountain . . .
maybe it's not cold enough yet to turn blades into a bonafide winter sports store, but i really didn't see any reason for me to come back here for my snowboarding gear. the small section upstairs was all for men, nothing for chicks. i don't know what the UWS location is like, but i won't be coming back here looking for boarding gear.

Overpriced "skate shop". I don't think people that actually skate or snowboard really go to this store. I mean, if they have a brain they wouldnt.
It has all the major brands and everything to get you geared up but if manhattan is your only option and you dont want to be broke then I suggest you order online.

When winter sneaks up on you and nips you in the bum, come to Blades Board & Skate and turn winter into your favorite sport. A large selection of snow clothes, gear, and accessories.
good selection, if you can brave the snowboarder-snubbery, shop here, otherwise, go to the UWS store.
