7 reviews for Blackstones
I normally never ever write reviews. This is actually the first review that I have ever written because I was so pleased with the service and quality of the work at Blackstones that I felt the need to share this information with anyone looking for a new place to get a haircut.
I just moved to NYC a couple of months ago and I have difficult hair . . . multi-textured (wavy curls on top, stick straight on bottom), really thick, and very unpredictable. Many hairstylists have no idea what to do when they see my locks. However, Lexi at Blackstones was fantastic. She asked a ton of questions on what my hair is like, how I like to style it, what are my concerns, etc. She took a lot of time just getting to know how I liked my hair and how I wanted it. And she totally knew what she was doing. Absolutely thorough and the hair turned out fantastic. My boyfriend and I are both in love with it.
It is just really fantastic to find someone who cares as much about your hair as you do and really listens to what you want. Koodos to Lexi.
Plus, the price was super reasonable for NYC - way under $100.
In addition - the decor at blackstones and the vibe is totally great.
Highly recommended.
A few months ago I had what I like to call a follicular emergency. Wait; let me back up for a moment... I'm lucky enough to work in a position where I don't have to be meticulously groomed (facial hair, head) like many of my friends in finance, legal, etc... Therefore, I go long stretches without getting haircuts; grow a beard on and off, mustaches, that sort of thing. I'll wait until the majority of comments from people around me are negative and then I go to my favorite place- NV on the LES which usually requires an appointment about a week in advance.
Back to the story, I'm at work one day and my colleague says I'm starting to look like a Geico caveman/Barry Gibb (which hurt) and I just happened to have a rare first date later that night that I was already pretty nervous about. Immediately I call NV, they couldn't take me, so I panicked, went into scramble mode and asked a client to recommend a place, which leads me to Blackstone - BTW, great reviews on Yelp, I'm golden right?
So I get in the same day, sweet. First off, the place is super cool looking, taxidermy and pirate crap everywhere (like Freemans had a baby with Abercrombie & Fitch or something) which I loved. The hair cut guy was super cool, again huge positive, so far so good I'm thinking.
Through the haircut I'm not much paying attention, BSing with the guy, great conversation, having fun. However I do start to notice it's shaping up into a somewhat mullet-esque look, but whatever... anything is better than the Staying Alive mop I was sporting! I didn't care, had a date, I was getting a haircut and starting not to look like a Gibb brother... it was last minute, and I was happy.
Learned a valuable lesson that day - ask the price before the haircut. I got to cashier and nearly $hit - $140.00 bucks!!! For a mullet! They must have seen me coming a mile away, honestly. So I paid it, left the salon, and immediately bee lined it to St Marx and bought a lame Jason Mraz hat - true story. Date sucked...
I agree - Lexi is fantastic. It was the first hair cut I've had in a while that felt really collaborative. I will be back.
One of the most beautiful salons I have ever seen.
Everything is class A. From the stylist to their cuts.
Very nifty salon. Lexi, my stylist spent time getting to know exactly what I wanted. She offered me suggestions and gave me a great cut. I was very suprised to find out that the shampoo, deep conditioning treatment, cut and full blowdry were included in the 75$. Very happy with my haircut and the salon in general!
Before I was introduced to Joey (the owner and hair stylist) I had been going to places on Madison Avenue. I paid way too much and the attitude was such a turn off. Then I was introduced to Joey and I've been following him around for a couple of years now. The salon has such a cool vibe-- so laid back and friendly. Joey is comparable or better than any top stylist I've ever seen at those mega expensive places and Skarlett always give me great color and highlights. I've never tried other stylists but I see the work they do and people look great when they're leaving the salon. I highly recommend Blackstones.
I read great reviews of this place, and that's partly why I booked an appointment with them. I had high hopes, but the hair cut just didn't work for me! I honestly would've just let it slide, but I walked out of the salon with my nape and clothes all covered in hair! When she slid the black protective cover off after she was done, about half the hair on it was flung on to me. The stylist absolutely wasn't apologetic about (passive-aggresively) getting all the hair on to my shirt, skin, even my bag!
