I just tried this out for the first time today and REALLY enjoyed it! They have endless combinations of pasta types and sauces and toppings so you can pick your perfect pasta! They also have awesome looking salads and other items including whole wheat stuff and really healthy vegetarian options! I work in the area and find it a task to find a variety of things to get for lunch that are not only quick and cheap but vegetarian and Blackjack Pasta really helps!

Also - the staff were really friendly and helpful and the restaurant is intimate and calm. Solid takeout place!

Sometimes you just want a heaping pile of industrial grade pasta served in a foil package, ready to scarf down in front of a netflix movie.  There was a place in Newton that filled that role very nicely; it'd be wrong to call it good, necessarily, but it was was needed.  The right junkfood at the right time.

Blackjack, i thought, might be a good heir to that job, just down the street from my new place, and as it turns out it's not the case.  Not that that's entirely a bad thing.

Even though i was looking for mass-produced mediocre noodles slathered in unhealthy, industrial-strength sauce, what i got was thick, al dente ziti with just the right amount of yummy alfredo sauce, tender hunks of meat that was recognizably chicken, and flawless broccoli.  As my friends well know, i am a sucker for broccoli.  For backup, a half-loaf of fresh bread of the type that is basically designed for sopping up sauce.  All this and it came in a sturdy bowl that's that perfect middle size between salad and serving that i've been looking for for years.

So it's safe to say that i got pretty good value, but the one drawback is, it's pretty expensive--it came to nearly $15 with a bottle of soda.  So for better and for worse, i'm still looking for my cheap pasta fix, but i did find out that you can get takeout pasta that's better than most restaurants.

I jumped in on a roommate's delivery order last night for the first time from http://campusfoods.com and was pleasantly surprised. I ordered the dinner special of butternut squash ravioli "in a caramelized apple, brown sugar and sherry wine sauce, with a touch of cream, topped with honey roasted walnuts" for $12.95, plus an extra add on of sweet sausage (+$1.50), and it came with a soda, salad, and cookie. The pasta dish was wicked tasty- that sauce is fantastic-, and the sweet sausage add-on was an excellent choice (I was in the mood for sweet and it definitely satisfied). Portion size of the pasta dish was good, with the salad and cookie I was stuffed by the end. Salad was standard but fresh (you get a choice of dressings, and the balsamic vinagrette was yummy), and the chocolate chip cookie was small but good (tasted homemade).

Cons: took about an hour to get here (according to my roommate, delivery time always tends to be an issue here), and they forgot my soda.

Looking forward to trying them out again sometime, apparently their lobster ravioli is supposedly really good also...

I ordered through http://foodler.com and the delivery service took an hour and a half. Food was warm when it arrived. I was starving (again) which didn't help the taste. Average ravioli. Not a fan of potato gnocchi.
+1 for having nice tupperware, though. I washed and kept it.

Wowness!  I ordered through http://foodler.com, timely service as usual.  Ordered their garlic bread and garlic pasta with spicy red sauce, meatball, and Feta Cheese.  Although expensive, its worth it!  I figured the bowl is kinda small, but to my surprise I could only finish half of it, so another plus on it being expensive is its two meals in one.  If you need pasta, but don't feel like making it yourself, go here.

Delivery/ Takeout (not four stars for sit-down quality, but for take-out quality)

Okay, so I am alone at work today and needed to order out for lunch. Just yesterday a nice man with a greased hair and a half-unbuttoned shirt dropped off a menu for this place, so I thought I would give it a shot being a carb-aholic and all. For $12 I got a HUGE thing of cheese tortellini and a big spinach salad. You can "make your own" pasta choosing pasta type and sauce, and they are very accomodating about altering salads and stuff as well.

Anyway, the exciting thing is that my salad was fresh, tasty and not brown anywhere!!! And the pasta was great. The tomato basil sauce is light, fresh and does not taste like something I dumped out of a jar at home. It was, really exceptional in comparison to all the other places we order from here in Back Bay. I would say that the sauce was on par with Carlo's in Allston at about half the price.

While this won't replace my evening Italian dining spots, I am happy to say that I never have to eat nasty Papa Razzi pasta for lunch ever again. And that is a beautiful, beautiful thing.

Other pluses- Ravioli  and tortellini with fancy fillings (butternut squash, lobster), whole wheat pasta options.
My only complaint is that I couldn't get a half order of pasta. I don't mind spending $7 on pasta... but it was seriously about three pounds of tortellini and I didn't need that much.

when soulfire wasn't listed anymore as delivering to the south end on foodler, this was our plan B. you can order online through campusfood or blackjack's own website, http://www.blackjackpa.../.
i really liked this place!! the delivery took about 90 minutes instead of the promised 60, but they called to apologize when they were "five minutes away" (really 15)..not sure what happened there but it certainly made our al dente pasta kind of gooey and glutenous, which sucked. i don't know if i would get delivery again as a result because the pasta really suffered in those containers. maybe if you had a microwave to heat it up? they COVERED the pasta in sauce, probably in an attempt to keep it from getting gooey, but that didn't really work either.
the flavors were really delicious though and the pasta was FRESH, homemade! i had eggplant parm over fusili and my boyfriend had ziti with chicken parm. we also had this ridiculous(-ly awesome) appetizer, FRIED RAVIOLI, which is exactly what i described. i couldn't decide if i liked it or what but in the meantime managed to eat four of them! haha.
the price is VERY decent (especially considering that you get practically a pound of pasta in your order!!) and if i'm in the fenway area i will definitely stop in and get take-out!
