I went to Black Sheep again last night. Wasn't crowded at all which I was feeling after crawling out of an Astoria beer garden. Yea we're like a traveling virus.
I love this place and Michelle is now offically my all time favorite bartender. She only works on Fridays though, but you must go visit her. She really kept us entertained and floored us with her 1996 mariners basball knowledge. Rock on girl, and pick up a couple more shifts for christs sake.

Growing up in a Polish family, the idiom Black Sheep was constantly thrown around. My brother was the recipient of the title for many many years, but then I decided to go to "art school," and voilà......baaaaah said muah.

So fitting is it then, that I should find myself in Black Sheep Pub on a Sunday evening. Smaller space and more divey than I envisioned... but the bartender was all wool and a yard wide (plus she gave me a bonus tidbit: Captain + gingerale tastes like Cream Soda!) and what few people were hanging out were all very friendly. This bar is a straight-shot from my house, so I wool definitely be back!

This is what you want in a pub:
Small and dark - check.
The old dude at the bar, both day and night - check.
jukebox options - check.
I thought this place was solid, if only a little cramped and I have no reason to complain.
Especially considering the super nice bartender who socially promotes the slow drinkers.... makes me so thrilled to live so close to the Black Sheep.

Nice cozy neighborhood bar.  I don't think I've ever gotten the food, but they have your typical bar munchies and stuff.  The main perk - which I can never figure out exactly when it's going to happen - is the Scrabble tournament.

If you just want a place to sit down and relax and have a drink or two, I'd say Black Sheep.

This pub has quickly become one of my favorite local hangouts. The bartenders are totally friendly, they have a free jukebox until eight o'clock (can't beat that!!), a Foosball table, half price wine on Monday and Thursday, and my favorite, the giant screen that they show movies. Now, the movies aren't shown with the sound on and I don't even really mind. Because of this place (they have all cable movie channels, I have one at home), I have been able to go after work, sit and unwind with my beer and watch many "silent" movies I can't watch on my one cable channel and have conversations with the cool locals I have met there so far. And what I really like about it is that it seems to attract a crowd that is really more my age so I get spared the younger, louder-when-drunk crowd of the neighborhood.

As this is on a residential side street , there are poles to lock your bike up to. My favorite is right across form the window so I can keep an eye on my ride.

It's sad.  I used to love this place.  There are still certain things I like: free jukebox, nice bartenders, really nice crowd on most nights, extremely cool decor.  The (co?)-owner, a really nice guy from County Down, is smart, cool, fun, and knows how to run a bar.

Unfortunately, all of this is trumped by an awful, awful guy who seems to be a manager or possibly another owner.  He is incredibly rude.  I've never, ever been yelled at by a bar employee anywhere before, but one night, I dared to ask if I could borrow a rag to wipe up a huge puddle of water on the last remaining table in the place.  The first and only time I asked, polite as can be, he shouted at me, "I'll get to it in a minute!  I'm busy!" I said I wasn't trying to bug him, that I was happy to do it myself, and he yelled at me again.  Okay, he was having a bad night.  Happens to everyone.

Then we went to watch the US / Brazil game yesterday.  He was barking orders at all the patrons, demanding people sit at this table or that, shouting at my friends and I to "get out of his way and go sit over there," (where, incidentally other people had pet their stuff down, but he told them if they weren't going to stay in their seats they would lose them!), and then publicly shouted at the entire bar that they would need to get into seats.  Naturally, many people got up and fled to O'Connor's across the street, and we would have, too, if we hadn't been meeting other people there.

This bar's management better figure out that in an area so glutted with bars, they won't be able to treat people like this for very long without losing some serious business.

I really like this place.  It's cozy and laid back and there were no annoying people at all.

Our bartender was pretty nice and when we ordered our 2nd round of drinks, he actually delivered it to us - and he says he rarely does that.

They also serve some bar food - I had the cheese fries because when you're downing that Guinness, you need some starchy carbs to settle it down :P

I finally have a neighborhood bar.. my life is complete... Dark, comfy and the food is really good! Much healthier and tastier than you'd expect from a pub. The dirty fries are amazing.. so good you'll want to steal them from the random people sitting next to you. Monday and Wednesday half price wine!

nice lil neighborhood bar...met some other teacher friends here on a friday evening. the children had been especially beastly that day, and it was the end of the week. so i probably would've been happy sippin from a brown bag in an alley.

HOWEVER, i'm glad i opted for black sheep instead. i had delicious cider (just like in college!) and the nachos were jammin on the ones.

plus they had scrabble!

and the bartender was cool.

thumbs up!

My favorite pint of Guinness in Brooklyn.  (Manhattan would be McCormick's).  I would not hesitate to hand my cousins from Ireland a pint from Black Sheep.

The pub food is excellent.  You will never be disappointed by the burgers here, and the staff is very cool, French & friendly.  Jukebox is above average and the rickety foos table is still fun.  They share a kitchen with the Tapas restaurant on the corner which is also pretty good.  Sunday  -all pints are $3.

This place teeters on the brink of 3.5 - 4 stars. It's pretty tiny and I don't love the layout and the lack of comfortable seating. It does have great drink specials like 1/2 price wine Mon.& Wed. and really good food. A bit of a hidden gem in that it's not overly crowded or overly lame. Can't say no to a $3 glass 'o vino!

CANT BELIEVE i completely forgot to write about this place! its one of my fave. the Guinness on tap here is AMAZING it taste so freaking good.the jukebox has GREAT music! the Foosball table is in working condition.the bathroom is always clean.  this place is GREAT my one complaint is that you can sit drink and smoke out front but you cannot eat..? its not a big deal but i think they should let people eat outside on there laps.makes a huge difference when you sit inside and outside but i understand..definitely visit this place.they don't have  a large beer selection on tap but if you like liquor then yea..your going to fall in love..

and please

DON'T FORGET TO TIP YOUR BARTENDERS

I've only had one experience with the Black Sheep Pub and rest assured it will have me coming back for more.  I went with a couple of friends for Pub Quiz night and it was one of the most enjoyable times I've had a bar on the weeknights in quite some time.  The beer is reasonably priced, the jukebox was quite excellent by my standards and there were cheese  puffs on the bar to boot.

Every night there seems to be something special going on at the Black Sheep Pub.  It's small in a cozy sort of way and it could be a regular drinking destination as long as the pub quiz is going on.  Me likey the pub quiz.

Dear Black Sheep Pub,

Thank you for your time and hospitality on my first visit to Brooklyn to hang out.   Yes, yes, i know...this was way overdue...but your cheap prices ($25 for two people to drink for 2 hours!), completely awesome jukebox (which happens to be free until 8pm every night), awesome and intimate atmosphere (only 10 tables in the entire place), and friendly and conversational bartender (Christian, a good polish brother) made what I thought was going to be just a quick drink after a show, into a 2 hour memorable experience.

I'm told (by the bartender) that the monthly pub quick (first wednesday of each month, i think) is worth the trip.  For the prices...and the fact that they have some awesome beers on tap...i might just have to come back again.

This bar, were it in Manhattan, would be filled with pretentious jerks and completely overpriced.  In Brooklyn, it was instead extremely laid back and super cool, without taking itself too seriously.

Yet another great bar in Park Slope. For everyone's bitching and moaning about things that happen to Brooklyn, people forget that sometimes, you gotta stop complaining about what's mostly bullshit and cliched Brooklyn punchlines and just realize that places like Black Sheep Pub do their own thing and there's nothing else to debate. This is pretty much a perfectly constructed small bar; small good bars are always a wonder because they feel more cozy; now that I think of it it's hard to have a good big bar as well, but hey, pros and cons to all of them (still nothing beats the Lafayette, such a small space but yet so perfect in a way).
Black Sheep keeps things fresh by having lots of aspects to the bar without having to go overboard; they have different specials every night, fooseball, a big projector, a fairly clean bathroom, and the bar is situated on one side and takes up the entire wall. It just fits neatly. Tables are in the middle (prevents dancing but facillitates conversation of course).

Here's the best thing though; first off, it's on a great block, one of the best cross sections of Park Slope. Second, it's outdoor space in the front isn't a set of tables; it's line of chairs with an ash bucket hung up on the rail. This is the best way of doing it ever. Here's why: the row of chairs forces you to face the street, ideal for people watching. You can stare at people as they stare back at you curiously, you with your 10 dollar pitcher of wheat beer for happy hour pre-8pm, your feet up on the rail, modified King of the Hill opening credits sort of thing. It slows down the evening to wonderfully cool observation and sizing up. Not only that, the house across the street, while seemingly looks like could use a little work, was so charming; a one floor, plus not so private roof deck house. I got the chance to see the residents and it just seemed so charming.
The staff was really friendly and the people were chill. There was a really obnoxious Princeton-ish dude (nothing against Princeton, the campus is really beautiful, thanks for letting me stay)  trying to be a know-it-all about the film industry and then making his way into really inane political commentary but whatever.
Sitting out there with my feet up slowly drinking the pitcher just seemed so dusty-trail; I should have had a tipped up cowboy hat or something.

This is the kind of place where the bartenders and owners will get drunk with you, then proceed to kick your ass at Foosball. I also left a wallet and memory card on the floor one late night, and when I came back for it later, no one had robbed me. Everyone here is an all around decent person, and the food is to die for.

My disclaimer for this place is that I was never here before 2 AM, and I was certainly not sober upon arrival.  Bethatasitmay, I enjoyed myself, in a kind of nervous way.  There was a guy with a gun outside once, and I met a girl who said her name was "Chanel. With a K". I have not worked out where the K comes into play.  Nathaniel the bartender, however, is a peach and a plum, so I am conflicted.  I'll have to revisit this, in more ways than one.

It's not easy opening a pub that feels like it's been around awhile, especially in a spot formerly occupied by a disheveled and laughable bar/bubble tea lounge, but these guys did it. I didn't think anything could lure me away from the beloved O'Connors as my local goto watering whole, and yet BSP works. It's got a very specific angle: drink, watch a giant wall of sport (and sometimes music), play the juke or foosball, drink, repeat. The recent menu seems pretty good: the burger was exactly what you'd expect. The wine selection is great for a pub, and half price a few of the weeknights. The owners are generous and friendly, though on occasion, some of the bartenders can be a bit on the ungracious/unpleasant side, but hey, we all have our days. They're opening a tapas joint on the corner soon -- let's hope it doesn't affect the good vibe of their current spot.

since black sheep started serving food, i have begun to seriously consider moving in.  taking up residence right at the bar.  leaving maybe for nicotine but that's it.

why do i love Black Sheep so much?  is it the board games? is it half-price wine night? is it the cheap happy hour? is it the project-o-matic on the back wall?  the foozball tournament? quiz night?

yes.  all those things.  but mostly half-price wine night and scrabble.

Solid, if unspectacular, place. Finally bringing some footie to the Slope. Showing the CL matches in the middle of the day is worth a few stars on its own. Drink selection is decent. Space is small and intimate. Staff is laid back and has a sense of humor. Pub quiz night is a trip.

All in all, a nice little pub that I'm happy to visit whenever I'm in the area.

My first time at this place was enjoyable.  Windows opened out into the street and allowed for a nice breeze.  Drinks were reasonable and the staff was attentive.  The kitchen banged out our food relatively quickly as well.  They have a jukebox with patron's individual playlists, so that could either be awesome or blow, based on who else goes there - I didn't really care to pore over "Sonia's Awesome College Jamz '04" in a futile search for DMZ (not DMX).  Also notable is the huge tv screen projected on the wall.  Love or hate it.  I don't ever need to watch Fox again.  Otherwise, I guess they have trivia and foosball tourneys.
