I had some serious hunger for lunch today, and I was craving some delicious Home-Made Chow Mein which I am a huge fan of and have read so much about. After all the good reviews of the Black Pearl I decided to give it a try, only being about 5 min for work helped too.

I order up some home made chow mein with chicken to go (10.75), and was told it would take 5 to 10min. I sat down by the window and looked through an old magazine after about One Minute a young lady brought me my order! wow that was fast. The chow mein came with large chunks of chicken steaming fat noddles and a few various veggies, I would have liked to see some more but oh well.  The chow mein was good but not the best I've had, not quite as flavorful as the Judy Fu's snappy MSG dragon but minus this MSG.

overall a good experience, I will have to have it again because I am a chow mein addict.

I stopped in for lunch one day when I was craving General Tsao's chicken (like I often do) and that was all I ordered. So I really can't give much of a review on anything other than The General. It was slightly above average General Tsao's. The chicken was a good cut, fresh, and juicy, not fried-to-death. It was a little bit spendier than lunch specials Ive gotten other places, but I've also had a lot worse chicken, so overal I left feeling satisfied in my decision to come her for lunch.

Decent food. Tried the chowmain they make and it was good but the noodles were abit too large. Hubby got orange chicken and it was a little dry but the prices were huge and still tasty even witnh the dryness . Free delivery is awesome. Will go again

went here tonight after my friend suggested this place over Fortune Inn. I actually really like the fortune inn but she said she loves this place way more so i took her advice and ordered the following reccommended items.

Soft wontons in spicy peanut sauce (1/2 veggie 1/2 pork) $8
these were okay, nothing to write home about but the best of the three

Homemade chicken chow mein $10.75
HORRIBLE. very gross. no sauce very dry, no flavor, very boring. much prefer most other restaurant's chow mein, especially Thai Ho in kenmore

Beef Tenderloin in Soy Ginger sauce $15!!!!!!
once again very bland, no sauce, no flavor. boring. meat was dry. veggies were the best part. way overpriced

White rice $2.20

total $38.00 for gross food. Trader Joes has much better frozen chinese food. My mother, father and myself all agreed that it was not good  and way overpriced.

They are the only place I have found up in Washington that makes a salt & pepper fish. It's amazing! The lightly fried chunks of fish are to die for. Maybe one of these days I'll try something else.

I had some seriously high expectations of this place, after several solid 4 star reviews from other Yelp'ers.  As we search for a replacement of our beloved Dong Kong Lau, that has closed....sniff sniff... I had hoped this could be the place.  When we first walked in and I saw 3 gentlemen of Asian decent behind the counter in the kitchen my hopes shot even higher.

As we entered we walked buy a young man in the front of the building who was smoking like a house on fire, make mental note, the rest of our party were already seated in the middle of the restaurant and we joined them.  This place is of decent size but our party of 7 took up a good portion of the middle of this place.  My seat was nearest to the open end of the kitchen and it smelled like a rotten towel and musty funk all put together, ah, what a delight!  NOT!

Service was quick, the smoking hoodlum that we passed on our way in ended up being our waiter and bus-person.  Reeking of smoke, I wasn't excited about his use of cologne "well used ashtray" but he was knowledgeable about the menu and attentive on filling our water.

We started with the Spinach Pot sticker dumplings and a special green onion and sesame pancake which we had to order ahead of time, it was a 25 minute wait for this item, as noted in the menu.  Other members of our party had already placed the appetizer order so it didn't seem like that long of a wait for the pancake and pot stickers.  After placing our dinner order the pancake showed up, it was pretty good, crunchy and had a decent flavor that was enhanced by the use of the accompanying soy-sauce-based sauce and red pepper flakes that was served with it.  Mists of our devouring the pancake and savoring each morsel, the pot-stickers arrived.  Not so good, gooey balls of dough packed with frozen spinach, blah, no flavor, well actually there was a flavor, frozen spinach!  I don't think even Popeye would have liked these goo-balls.  I crossed my fingers this would be the only downer.

Three of us each had a cup of the Hot and Sour soup.  This lacked any real flavor, neither hot nor sour, in fact it didn't even taste like they had used any chicken or beef stock in the base of the soup.  After several good dashes of soy-sauce and a spoonful of the red pepper flakes, a slight resemblance of a soup formed.  I finally gave up on the soup after finding several lukewarm veggies in it.

We ordered the Seafood Ho Fun, a wide rice noodle, the dish had a fair amount of seafood in it, along with the not-so-fav frozen peas and carrots mix from the local Safeway.  It was very bland and lacked any true flavor.

We also ordered the Sesame chicken the menu described this as "crispy fried and glazed with a spicy sauce and sesame seeds" I guess the cooks forgot about the "crispy" part of the recipe, this ended up being a teriyaki-like chicken stir-fry with sesame seeds sprinkled on top.

I had chosen a "house specialty" the "lover's eggplant" this too was described as being "fried crispy" but I didn't expect eggplant hunks the size of chicken wings!  Everyone in our group thought this was some kind of chicken wing dish, until First Mate Smokey Joe aka our waiter, said that it was in fact eggplant.  This too was far to sweet for our liking and a big disappointment.

One of the items we did like was another "house specialty" the Black Pearl Hot Pot, now this is what I call a HOT POT!  This bad-boy came out of the kitchen steaming and bubbling, so much so the lid on the clay pot was actually bouncing up and down on the pot!  This was tasty we had ordered it with chicken and fried tofu.  Full of flavor but lacking any chicken, it was enjoyable.

The Honey Walnut prawns were a good portion but somewhat chewy, the flavor was good, just not great.

The final item was a side of the fresh homemade chow mein noodles, now these were the BOMB!  Just simply stir fried with a bit of oil these noodles were savory and deeeelish!

I should have realized this place wasn't all that great when during our entire meal, no one else walked in the door!  They sent out maybe 2 delivery orders while we were there.

Unfortunately the curse of the Black Pearl II was aided by the smokey first mate server, the galley, aka, dish washing area with rotten towel or mop odor from hell and the rather bland food.   Arrrgh, I can't be say'n I'll be back Cap'n...

At our house, Friday night is a DVD and Black Pearl. My partner and I have ordered enough take-out from Black Pearl to put at least one of the owner's kids through college ... a few months back they informed us that our current order was number 100!

We've tried most of their menu over the years and everything (with a few exceptions) is fresh and delicious. Our faves are the bean curd sheets with veggies, the beef in hot pepper sauce, the stir fried green beans and  the hot and sour soup (which we refer to as the nectar of the gods.) Delivery is generally very prompt and friendly; they'll say 45 minutes and the food arrives in 20, delivered with a smile.

If you live in Shoreline, LFP or Lake CIty, I highly recommend Black Pearl for dependable and delicious chinese take-out.

I crave the homemade chow mein noodles.

The Black Pearl specailizes in fresh, tasty Chinese food with perfectly cooked vegetables. We usually share vegetarian dishes (the MuShu is also delicious.) I'm told their meat options are tasty too. The portions are huge, the service is friendly. They even have brown rice as an option.

If you live in Shoreline or Lake Forest Park, you need to know about this place.

Over the past year or so we have ordered a vast array of dishes from chicken to beef to seafood and even some vegetarian.  Everything has been good and we have not had ANY clunkers.  That in and of itself is amazing!  The homemade noodles for chicken chow mein (which I have to order every single time) are pretty good - almost as good as Judy Fu's or Pandasia's.  The pork potstickers are nice and even better for me since my spouse does not seem to like them.  That's okay.  I love them and it's more for me!

The only improvement I would suggest is a website so we can at least look at the menu.  I seem to keep misplacing ours and having to borrow from the neighbor.

Black Pearl is highly recommended.  In fact, we're waiting for an order right now!  We have never dined in the restaurant; we have only experienced delivery which is always relatively quick and very friendly.

Get the homemade noodles, you won't be disappointed.  It is up there with Snappy Dragon as our favorite Chinese restaurants.

My daughter and I were dog-sitting for a friend this past weekend in Shoreline. Around 8:45pm I decided to load the child and the dog up in my car and go for a drive. Now I am not familiar with this part of town (I really can get to my friend's house and back out again) so I was driving the speed limit and trying to be a passenger to look around at the same time, hence driving the speed limit.

Turning from 145th on to 15th seemed to take us away from "civilization" and as I rounded back the Black Pearl II caught my eye on the left. I asked the child if she was hungry for Chinese and of course she was (kid's a bottomless pit when it comes to rice and fortune cookies).

There were no other customers inside, and the dining room lights were out (per the owner's request when there's no business I over heard the server tell a couple that showed up ten minutes later). Our order was taken by a friendly lady who had no problem chatting us up while we waited for our food. Which brings me to what we ordered.

Family dinner for two (for take-away) only:
- Veggie potstickers: fresh and full of spinach which I love.
- Sweet and Sour Pork: a good standard to test and it was very good and fresh, usual batter coating was decent meaning there wasn't more of it then pork. But what I really liked about this dish was their homemade sweet and sour sauce WITHOUT the toxic neon pink color. I had no idea that was possible!
- Sassy prawns: loaded with medium to small shrimp, sliced waterchestnuts, red chilis, and zucchini. Sassy factor was good for me as I don't like "burn your ass" hot food, and the leftovers for lunch on Monday were very sassy! But may not be hot enough for typical 4-5 star die hard.
- Rice: okay, okay, yes the usual accompaniment but can I tell you that here they appreciate you by giving you more then enough rice to placate the finicky of finicky 6 years olds, and I enjoyed having enough for lunch on Monday too.

Their menu was interesting with a lot of stand out items catching my eye. I would definitely like to try them again but with more people and to dine in.

Minus 1 star as my fortune was boring.

We got Orange Beef and Broccoli Beef, and WonTon soup with half pork and half veggie wontons.   Not impressed with any of it.  Friends at work swear by it and order it all the time.  Haven't figured out quite why that's the case, but whatevs.

The Black Pearl is Shoreline is a great place for lunch (I'm sure it is for dinner too but I haven't tried it) and serves some of the best Chinese food in the Shoreline area. There are many lunch specials to choose from and they are well priced and provide a large amount of food. The staff is friendly and the service is quick. The only downside to the Black Pearl in Shoreline is the lack of good parking. Still, it's worth it to squeeze into the lot in back and have a great lunch at the Black Pearl.

Black Pearl's second location, technically in Shoreline but really closer to Lake Forest Park.  The menu's identical to Wedgewood, with a similar setup but slightly more seating.  I found the food to be equally as good, and also found out they have some pretty sweet luch specials.  No Mountain Dew though?  Ok, I should probably be thanking them not to feed that addiction, but it goes soooo well with Gen Tso's chicken.  Mmmm.
