My husband and I finally tried this place last night. We have lived in Hendersonville for a few years and drive past it almost on a daily basis. It never really struck me as a place I would willingly want to go to. From the outside it just never looked very inviting and the name of the restaurant really never did much for me either. Well, we had a coupon from our citipass book and since it expires the end of this month we figured what the heck let's give it a whirl.

Well when we walked in I was pleasantly surprised. It was decorated very cute! It looks like walking into a very warm inviting cabin and the bar looked really nice as well. I thought huh this looks like a very nice place, but I was still skeptical! Our server brought us out the bread basket and the corn bread was done just the way I like it it bit crispy and a little sweet YUM! We both ordered grilled chicken and it came on a bed of rice plus any two sides our hearts desired! So I chose the mac N' cheese and cinnamon apples....the mac n' cheese was good....I think it was definitely pre done but good nonetheless! My baked apples OMG were amazing! Way better than cracker barrel! It tasted like apples right out of a freshly baked apple pie! The chicken was so flavorful and wonderful! Yay! Now I'm just bummed we let these years go by and didn't know what we had been missing and oh yah the prices are really good as well! We are looking forward to going back! By the way it appears they also have a nice private room for larger parties!

I've been eyeing this restaurant since I moved to Hendersonville in the Spring, but from the outside it looks like every other boring chain restaurant in the area, so it took me months to give it a go. I'm glad I finally tried it out!

My fiance and I went on a Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. - a time when Olive Gardens and TGI Fridays are packed to capacity with 45-minute waiting times - and were suprised to see that the restaurant was only around 75% full (of course this could have been a bad omen for things to come!). Within moments we were sitting at our booth scouring the menu.

The choices were largely made up of good ol' fashioned southern comfort food, but there were some selections outside that general category. I was excited to see a fruit and spinach entree salad on the menu - strawberries, blueberries, feta cheese, spinach, pecans, and raspberry vineagrette, with the option of citrus-grilled chicken. Sometimes it seems impossible to find healthy entrees in this area! I was ready to order. My fiance, however, was having a more difficult time. Nothing struck him as particularly interesting. He ended up ordering the 8-ounce steak (medium rare) with a spinach salad on the side, though he wasn't expecting it to be very good.

We placed our order, snacked on the complementary basket of relatively tasty corn bread the waitress brought for us, and waited for our entrees. After 5 or 10 minutes - felt like just the right amount of time - dinner was served.

When my fiance took his first bite of steak he went into a state of shock. It was awesome! Not Morton's Steakhouse good, of course, but the best steak I've ever tasted from a low- priced restaurant. It was perfectly seasoned and perfectly tender. Much better than anticipated! My salad was absolutely delicious - even my carnivorous better half enjoyed it (i ordered it sans chicken). His side salad was equally tasty. It consisted of spinach, bacon, tomatoes, pecans, and raspberry vineagrette dressing. The combination of sweet and savory flavors was suprisingly good. Actually, the whole dining experience turned out to be suprisingly good!

There was even an extra bonus at the end of the meal - our check came out to just over $21! Granted, we didn't order any booze (I had water and he had unsweetened tea), but still! We coudn't believe how cheap it was. We spent almost the same amount of money on Shoney's crappy late-afternoon salad bar earlier in the week. Obviously we will be back. The Black-Eyed Pea actually does a Sunday brunch, so I'm looking forward to trying it out.

I came here on a Sunday afternoon around 2:30pm.  Apparently Black Eyed Pea Restaurant does not staff cooks during this down time because when the server brought over the spinach artichoke dip we ordered she apologized for the wait and explained that she and another server and a manager had been in the kitchen trying to figure out how to make the dip.  She revealed that they even called another manager to talk them through the recipe.  Um ... excuse me? First, why aren't there cooks cooking the food I'm about to pay for?  Second, why would you admit to the customer that a real cook isn't cooking their food?  That being said, the spinach artichoke dip wasn't all bad and the bacon was a nice addition.  Then came the sandwiches.  We ordered the honey-mustard chicken sandwich and the buffalo chicken sandwich.  The former was just alright.  The latter wasn't cooked all the way through (how I like my beef, but unfortunately not my chicken) and the fries tasted rubbery as if they were leftovers reheated in a microwave.  When politely explaining to our waitress our dissatisfaction with our meal she was irrationally rude.  It's not the customer's fault that you didn't have any cooks in house at a RESTAURANT.  She refused to even talk to us and immediately called for her manager who came over and was very pleasant and took one of the sandwiches off of our bill.  This was the worst lunch I've had in a long time.
