as we pulled into the driveway of this winery, we weren't sure if they were still open the "closed" sign was up but we were told they'd be open till seven. further down the driveway we saw a man walking with a dog. so we drive closer - what the!?!?!? not only is homeboy walking a dog, he's toting a rifle as well - SWEET GEE-BUS!!
once we parked and my aunt cautiously called out from the van "um, is your tasting room still open?" he blinked, told us to come on in, his wife had stepped out for a second and he shuffled into the small bar area. he must've stowed the rifle by the time we piled out of the van cause i didn't see it, now he was busy pulling out chilled wines from a fridge. His wife came in and took over the pourings. their specialty is fruit wines (as Kevin S. mentioned) and while these aren't my particular favorites i did enjoy the sampling their berry wines (they make loganberry, and cranberry). they also make grape wines and have a small vineyard that you pass through on your way to the cozy tasting bar. the owners happily answered questions and rang up several bottles for my fam. they were out of the plum wine when we stopped in :( but the cranberry would be awesome with Tofurkey come thanksgiving time (or regular turkey for you omnivores).
This is a unique wine experience, but definitely worth it. We interrupted the woman's gardening when we arrive to do a tasting. But she didn't mind a bit, and told us about the burrs that were stuck on her feet from the work she was doing. I was about to ask her if we could stay and help! She was so friendly and really loves her wines. They are tasty wines, too. They aren't the wines I typically drink everyday, but at such a reasonable price, I'm so glad we bought several bottles. Now every time I open one I feel like I'm right there again!
Located at the base of the Olympic rainforest this quaint winery is a must visit. The wine makers run the shop and specialize primarily in fruit wine and this muller that's wonderful. And while its a bit out of the way the quaint feel and warm semellion make it worth the trip.
