Shrimp burrito!!
Shrimp burrito!!
Make sure you order the shrimp Burrito.
We tried the fish. Big mistake!! Big mistake!! They used at least one cup of lime juice which made them inedible.
We came here on the way back from Grand Canyon, and we came back next night again for the shrimp burrito.
Thai chicken... they were not bad. Ahi tuna burrito?? Big mistake!!! did I mention it already?
On my return leg of a 2 week cross country road trip, my fat, bloated ass was sick of road food and I wanted something decent (which means unmicrowaved, unfrozen and add veggie friendly to the mix). Seriously, a girl can only eat so much of roadside Subway veggie delight (which SUCKS on a good day, btw).
Uncle Yelp to the rescue (as well as the phone assistance of Mr. Ellen M)! With reviews claiming that it was a cross between Chipolte (ew) and Baja Fresh (yum), but a billion times better, I started dreaming about this place 35 miles away along the pathways of Route 66 and it did not disappoint. It's a small, walk-up joint with fast service and my veggie taco was delish! Fresh summer squash and zucchini on top of black beans and guacamole with a billion salsa options from spicy to mild and a few in between (I went with my perennial favorite of pineapple mango - seriously, who can ask for anything better? Oh, a few more decent places along the way to Chicago - are you reading this, Uncle Yelp?

We were looking for some thing kinda fast, but good. We found this gem, wow it was good. We arrived around 12 on a Tuesday and it wasn't that crowded. Tons of options for burritos and wraps. My wife had the Thai peanut tofu burrito and said it was out of this world, I had the carne asada burrito and it was really good. Both of the burrito were on the spicy side and big, served with chips. The kids got a quesadilla and a bean and cheese burrito, both were kid friendly and good. I can't wait to return to Flagstaff to go back.
I'm leaving Flagstaff soon and will perhaps miss Black Bean more than most any restaurant here. This is a great little place for quick bite on the go. Baja-Southwestern staples- burritos, tacos, nachos- done extremely well. I mostly stick with the burritos and am partial to the shrimp or fish burritos, but their barbeque and thai burritos are good too. All the burritos have a healthy serving of black beans (hey!), brown rice, and fresh salsas so it's filling and sticks with you longer than a Big Mac will. They're also served with some crappy from-the-bag tortilla chips, but hey the chips are free and I'm usually stuffed after the burrito anyway so no complaints here.
All in all, this is a nice little place that won't break the bank. Sit out on the patio, have a beer (or their margaritas are decent), and enjoy a healthy-ish, flavorful respite from normal fast food.
Yes.
If you want exotic burritos, this is the place to go. From tofu to shrimp, they have great choices. I love the Chicken Enchilada Burrito, served up with a Jarritos or a beer. This place has the typical Flagstaff charm with friendly service, and unlike most places in Flag, they're very quick. Also, free chips and GOOD salsa is a great thing to have.
Go here, and go here often.
We were walking around old down town and decided to grad some dinner.
It was too cold for us to sit out side, but plenty of people were across the plaza enjoying the sun!
We decided we wanted chips and salsa - on that front I really can't recommend this place. They offer up the round, corn chips that come straight out of a giant costco bag.
The salsa we chose was the rojo red- hubby liked the heat. It wasn't my cup of tea.
We also went with nachos and the mojo shrimp wrap. The nachos had a pretty good taste and the guacamole was great!
The wrap was pretty tasty - but the sauce was missing a smidge of heat and flavor.
Beer specials - 2/$3 tecates... Mmmm!
Friendly staff, order at the counter and pickup at the counter, free water!
Locals seems to come here as well. Definitely something for a quick meal.
My love of Black Bean has not diminished over the years and I still feel the need to drop in when I'm in town. It's a great, safe place to take friends who are picky eaters.
The menu is extensive, with burrito and other wrap options. It tends to stray from a typical Mexican-style menu with Italian and Greek inspired offerings. A variety of salsa, from traditional salsas to the more creative, are available. This is an extremely non-traditional menu. Do not come here expecting "authentic" Mexican food. Do show up expecting great slightly charred chicken and lovely tortillas.
Really, it should loose a star from crappy chips, but I just can't make myself do it.
I have to pair the "burrito" with an Arizona Green Tea with Honey and Ginsing. It must be done. There are something about the flavors of the two that compliment each other perfectly.
Black Bean is significantly better than Chipotle, Baja Fresh, and similar fast food burrito options. Everything tastes fresh and delicious.
If Black Bean were open late, it would absolutely kick Primos and Pita Pits' collective asses.

I have been going there since they opened great food, generally good service and good beer selection. I grew up in AZ and folks who consider Chipotle a standard don't know the real thing. Granted I consider this more an American-Baja version of Mexican, but I enjoying it for what it is stylewise.
Shrimp burrito, spicy excellent
or for something different..
Thai Chicken both are winners.
Everytime I come to Flagstaff, I always stop here. I love the Habanero salsa. This place is better than ALL the chain burrito shacks! The staff is always friendly.

Great Fish Burrito, Not so great chicken soft tacos. Decent Price.
I went to NAU and The Black Bean was my very favorite place to eat. I mean, very very favorite. The burros are huge and fresh and just plain delicious. I have to admit I have not been there in a long time, but from what I remember, I loved The Black Bean so much that I was thinking about it tonight (Thanksgiving).
I should head out to Flag this winter.

Great burritos with a wide selection of fresh made salsa. Friendly staff
Puh-Lease.
This place is nothing special. It's like a Chipotle without being delicious.
Another, bland mexican food place.
This place was a great find in Flagstaff. The burritos were huge and they had so many great salsa choices. The service was great as well. We loved that they give you the option of brown or Spanish rice and also black or pinto beans. The prices were great for what you got. Their drink specials were also a nice surprise.
