Most boardwalk joints are terribly overpriced poor quality and rip off the tourists. This hidden jewel has been run by the same family for over 40 years and is nestled away at the southern end of the beach. Since it caters to locals it has perfected the art of dining. We both had the "Stockyard Special" consisting of a salad, rolls, baked potato and sirloin steak (medium rare). Everything was prepared to perfection.
Quality Of Service: Wait staff wear formal black tie attire and you are served in an atmosphere with real linens and silverware among candlelit tables and "mood" music playing in the background. Very relaxing but attentive service. They encourage informal beach wear for customers so even though we had on shorts and tie shirts, we felt comfortable.
Cleaniness: This place has been around since the 60's and has held up as well as you might expect against the beach elements of sand and sea. Men's bathroom is very small and outdated but tablecloths, flowers etc. are changed after every guest.
Portion Size: Salads are small but there is an endless supply of dinner rolls. Steaks are average size but potatos are big.
Value For The Money: With the buy 1 get 1 free Early Bird Special cupon from the tourist and visitor magazine, this is an incredible deal. Where else can you get this kind of meal, in this kind of atmosphere on the beach and feed two for under 25 (including tip)???
This is a place we have gone to for years and always go back when we are in the area. -

My husband and I took his brother here for his birthday last summer. My brother in law is a total red meat guy so we thought this would be a nice place to take him. I should add that this was his 17th birthday and my husband and I are in our early 20's. Boy, did we get glares! From the look on the maitre d's face, you'd think we ran over his brand new puppy with a truck. He seated us in the table allllll the way in the back, completely separate from all other (elderly) diners and very far out of sight.
So, we established that this was not going to be a pleasant experience. But maybe the food would be good, right? Um, no. Neither of the men were happy and I, a vegetarian, knew this wasn't going to be a good meal for me from the moment we saw the menu. The food was super expensive and really badly cooked.
I would definitely not go back. Young people beware! -

Not bad but not great.

Went to this steakhouse in the off season, therefore we got parking at the restaurant. The place was intimate, the wait staff attentive, and the food was excellent.

I'm certain Don Draper would feel right at home at Black Angus.
DW and I got there recently after living in VB for several years. What a time warp! Bar right in the dining room, swivel chairs, some tables with "throne" backs (and swivels!), red and black predominant. Menu to match. Apparently hasn't been updated since opening in '53. We settled on two steaks -- Delmonico for her, my fave, the NY Strip for me. Started with the included house salad. OK - nothing special, but the blue cheese dressing did have nice chunks of cheese. Steaks were undistinguished. Mine was tougher than the usual strip. Ala carte baked potatoes were miniscule. Plates were boring -- no garnish, no eye appeal. Bread was hot, and crusty. For dessert, we split a slice of a quite average coconut cake. Wine list was short for a steak house -- we like pinots, so we had a nice Jadot Burgundy at $26. Fair price.
Service -- mediocre. Waiter couldn't describe several of the wines on the list. Brought mains before we were finished with the salads. Sadly, not even a minimal level of professionalism.
Recap -- 1 (of 2) stars for food, 1 (of 2) for service, 0 (of 1) for decor. Save your money. If you want to go up and spend a few more bucks, Zoes (despite some recent inconsistency). If you want value, it isn't that far to Outback at Hilltop. -

I saw their B1G1 ad in one of the ad books and compared it to the yelp reviews and bit. It was off season, so there weren't many people there. They did have a few tables with High Backed Chairs, which seemed to be fun to be seated in, though we weren't seated in them for whatever reason.
We ordered the Stockyard Sirloin special. Apparently there are two versions of the coupon; one which includes the salad and another that didn't. Since we didn't have the appropriate coupon, we forewent the salad. The entree consisted of the sirloin steak, and choice of potato side (french fries, baked potato, or garlic mashed potatoes), along with their complimentary bread. I ordered my steak medium with the garlic mashed potatoes. When it came, the entree seemed small (but to be honest i'm sure it was more than enough, just not as much as I'm used to at American restaurants). Another vegetable as a side would have helped.
The steak was way overcooked. Definitely "well done". The other steak was close to medium. Other than the overcooking, it was good, a nice sear on the outside and some flavoring. The garlic mashed potatoes; well, it tasted like they forgot the garlic. along with salt, pepper, and butter. I've made much better at home with month-old russets and fat free milk.
The wait staff was very friendly and attentive, no problems there. just the food. the coupon was B1G1 for the regular $18 item, which was a little disingenuous since they were charging us "extra" for the B1G1 version without the salad.
Maybe in the season and on a different night they would be better. But they get my review for when I was there. I left rather disappointed.
