    A delightful treat!!!

Came here for a work lunch a few weeks ago and it was awesome!!

I had their arugula salad with pears, shaved cheese and candied walnuts. Then I had their fillet of sole with spinach and potatoes. I can't believe it but I ate my WHOLE meal-salad to entree.  I know most of you don't understand the importance of that but believe me-it's an excellent sign!!!

The food delicious, and the menu has some daily items as well as their constants.  Only drawback that I can see is the menu doesn't change from lunch to dinner, same all around.  You can read the specials on the chalkboards framed on the walls or on the sides of the menu.

We followed up with some dessert; lavender infused creme brulee and butterscotch pudding and molten chocolate cake.  All were good but I am biased-I make a mean butterscotch pudding.

Best thing about this place for me-walking distance to Powell's candy store. :)

My girlfriend and I ate at Bistro M because we had purchased the groupon. We are not Windsor locals and the only reason for visiting was because I had purchased a night's stay at the Hampton Inn during a wine event/auction.

First off I would like to say that the food was in fact, delicious. Now enough of the compliments.

The staff was, well, not rude. The place is small and I felt obligated to keep my voice down. The website says it's casual dining, but I couldn't help but feel out of place the entire time.

Though Yelp says there is a full bar, I was disappointed to find out I could select from only three beers. Yes, three. A pilsner, an IPA, and a "black" beer - all from the same brewery.

I ordered the Lamb Sirloin ($24) with peas, carrots, and roasted fennel. My girlfriend ordered the Braised Chicken ($22) with mashed potatoes and asparagus.

While we waited for our food we received two salads that we did not order and had to send them back. What a waste of food.

I was entirely disappointed to find that the $24 lamb sirloin that I ordered consisted of two tiny chunks of meat. They wouldn't have filled up my 5 year old nephews appetite. Not only that, but I received a minimal amount of peas and carrots, and a whole two balls of roasted fennel. What an incredible rip-off. My girlfriend received way more chicken than i did lamb. I understand that chicken costs less than lamb, but give me a break.

When it comes down to it, Bistro M to me is like a bunch of kids playing dress-up and pretending to run a fancy restaurant. It's cute, but it's still make-believe.

If you are hungry, do not eat here. An hour after eating, I am starving.

YOU DO NOT GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR.

Also, I noticed a ridiculous $1.50 substitution fee and an $11 corking fee for bottles of wine.

Bistro M is operated by the Bosquet family,  thier 2nd restaurant.  They also own Mirepoix restaurant here in Windsor, CA.

And operationally Bistro M suceeds and fails in many of the same ways  as Mirepoix.  Check out the YELP reviews for this bistro so far.  Accolades and scorn. Enthusiastic 5 stars some nights and 1 stars on bad nights - just like Mirepoix.  Reknown for uneven performance.

My story is a happy one.  Sunday 11am meal for me and Bambie.  We get Oysters 3 ways, steak, fish, salads, wine and bubbly water.  We were too full to eat dessert.  All was tasty.   Served by adults who shared humor and performed with finesse.

    S_L_O_W service.  2+ hour meal.

Well designed, clean, simply decorated room.  Booth seating is comfortable.

Out the door for less than $80.

    I'll gladly return for more.

Typical French menu. Very friendly and helpful service, though the food was a bit slow to come out. I don't think the three-course pre-fixe was as worth it as ordering dishes separately because portions seemed smaller, but in general, the food was great. I recommend their cote de boeuf (rib-eye steak) on Saturdays and their croque madam.

    Underwhelmed.

Wine: nice list and values to behold!
Appetizer:Pork Rillett with toast = good
Soup de jour = average creamy soup
Main: Steak au poivre = undercooked, grisly, thin cut--sent back.
steak #2 was a much nicer cut, cooked decently. It didn't rest, and came out medium rare and ended up medium. Mashed potatoes were almost cold on both plates.

GF had the stuffed sole. It was good, but not noteworthy.
dessert: pear tart = good, not great

Interior decor is for old people, great for Windsor. The stained paper menus are not flattering. The menus had too much going on: daily specials, prefixes, sides, oysters, and then extra daily specials from the waiter. Overall, the menu items were not very exciting: pork belly, pork shoulder, roasted chicken, pasta. There was no wow factor. These are classic peasant dishes I can get at any foodie joint. AND you botched my steak! If medium rare means cold, dark-purple center to you, then have your waitress inform the customers!

The service was mediocre. We won't be coming back.

Went to Bistro M on a Saturday and were seated immediately with a reservation. The decor of the place is reminiscent of a classic French Bistro. However, overall, the dining experience was one of the worst I've had in the last year. What's worse is that my girlfriend and I had been engaged earlier that day.

I will say that the highlight of the meal was the glass of Rosenblum Zinfandel that I had and the Fountain of Youth cocktail that my fiancée had.

Our service was atrocious. The waitress took forever between answering my questions when the drinks were served until our order was taken. In that span of time, the restaurant had run out of sweetbreads, which was one of the main reasons for us coming to Bistro M. So we ordered an onion soup, mussels with frites, a salad with pears and blue cheese, and the duck confit.

The salad never came, despite the waitress clarifying that my fiancée wanted the vinaigrette on the side. My soup did come but the first thing I noticed was the aroma of burned bread and cheese. Once you were passed that, you were greeted with a broth fraught with vinegar and lacking a meatiness which is what is desired from a classic onion soup.

Next was our "main course". It arrived over an hour from the time we ordered. The mussels arrived actually quite well cooked in a buttery broth, but on top was lazily thrown the frites. Even by the moment they arrived, a third of them were soggy. Why the cooks don't separate that frites into a separate serving utensil escapes me as quite possibly one of the most amateur serving techniques I have ever seen. How about the duck? It was a nice tiny leg, moist and with a crispy skin; well cooked, like the mussels, but served on a bed of totally unseasoned, slimy mushrooms and spinach. It was an atrocious combination. On the side of the plate sat a simple tomato tarte which was quite nice, but belonging with a serving of brunch and not a duck confit.

When the waitresses arrived again late, only now asking if we'd like another drink for the evening or would be interested in dessert, we both quickly said no thank you without consulting each other. Interestingly, she did take the time to ask me how my duck confit was, since the chefs had recently tried to improve it. I said to her that the duck was nicely prepared but that the bed of spinach and mushrooms it was sitting on was totally unseasoned. To this comment, she said, "oh great." I can only assume that like the salad which she omitted from her memory, she missed the words, "totally unseasoned."

This was quite possibly the worst French restaurant I've been to in my life. Whomever is in charge of this is simply surviving on the tourist business rapid turnover of clientele. A reasonably priced bistro would be an excellent alternative to the heavily priced and difficult to get a seating at Farmhouse done the road, but this restaurant has a long way to go.

Honestly, I was gonna give it two stars because it strove for a higher level ($58 + tip), unlike a Denny's for example, but instead I decided on 1 star because I would never go here again and would actively recommend others steer clear. If the owner personally called me to apologize for it being such a disappointment, I may feel compelled to change my mind.

This place was recommended to me by several people, and I'm really glad I listened.  The restaurant has a pleasant atmosphere, an interesting cocktail list, and a mouth-watering menu.  I ordered the prix fixe, which was a mixed green salad with shaved apple and mustard vinaigrette, a vegetable risotto, which was cooked to perfection, and a lemon tart to die for.  The portions of each individual dish were on the small side, however, this was perfect because I was able to enjoy a little of everything without being stuffed at the end.  I tasted my fellow diners' dishes and was equally pleased.  I would definitely come here again!

After a day of bike riding, this is the place to get your rich rich French food fix, and pair it with some rich, rich wine.  Of course the best part about this rich rich restaurant that executes on traditional French dishes with none of the stodgy boringness one sometimes finds among French restaurants, is that you'll walk out not in the least bit poor.

We had an amazing amount of delicious dinner calories for under $25.  We chose to eat at the bar, inviting with friendly staff and patrons.
    The food:
Croque madame - Life Changing.  You have never had a butter fried egg and beef sandwich this saucy, huge, and just...wow.  Delicious.  Invitation for a food coma, so bring some help.
boudin blanc - In contrast to the CM, this dish centered around a fluffy German-style sausage, with homemade tangy sauerkraut, and an addictive fig mustard.
Truffled popcorn - alas, the only slight miss, it was a bit stale.  Of course I'm rather a fan of stale popcorn.  The flavor of it just exploded in my senses, and best of all, a bowl of it just showed up in front of me!
Add on also, excellent chewy, fresh French bread and soft butter (how many places go wrong with the rock hard butter???)

This is also an excellent place to stop by after wine tasting. And it's one of the few places in Windsor open past 9pm.

    "The Croque Madame"

Dayum. That was girthy. Just... Way big. Large. I haven't seen many people serve up one that size. To be fair, I haven't really ever seen anyone else's.

I have experience with my own, but it's nothing like that. It was hard to fit it all in there, but after a while I managed to force myself to enjoy it. The taste, the texture, the explosion of liquid after pressing down on it.

That was one tasty sandwich with a poached egg on top!

I ordinarily eat at Mirapoix-- a sister restaurant down the street. Tried this one and liked it better in many respects. It is not as romantic, but there is a larger and more diverse menu. I wouldn't really call it French, but closer to French/American than anything else. The Sweet breads and Steak Tartar were delicious. The Tarter was unique and tasty: more coarse ground than most. The other dishes (5) were all better than average and they have that Butterscotch pudding from Mirapoix that is so good.

Windsor has a new multi-million $$$$ revamped downtown, a sort of Disneyland version of Sonoma Square, that opened just in time for the downturn. Bistro M is one of the few restaurants, and it's a decent place to eat, great service, obliging kitchen (happy to do half-portions or subs), easy parking.

Prices are very reasonable, which makes the minor errors in the food tolerable. Soup was excellent, pork rillette very rich and tasty. Sweetbreads were chosen as a split appetizer, generous portion but although beautifully cooked, they weren't pressed.

Guinea hen was excellent, polenta very good but sweet pickled cabbage was an odd side. Shrimp with fresh gnocchi and a bouillabaise sauce was the least successful although the taste was good. But there were only three shrimp and six gnocchi, a skimpy and expensive serving, especially when compared to the sweetbreads' price (a lot more costly than shrimp, let alone gnocchi).

Bistro M is not perfect. But outside of the disappointing shrimp dish, the plates were generously sized, the quality and execution were good, and the overall prices are ridiculously cheap. We would not rate this quite as good as K&L Bistro/Sebastopol where we had dinner the previous night, but it is far better than most of its competition in this geographic area, including Santa Rosa's popular Petit Syrah, Kenwood's Doce Lunas, Sonoma's Estate, and Healdsburg's vaunted Madrona Manor, while being some 35-80% cheaper per head.

Especially with the erraticness of Barndiva/Healdsburg, where we had an amazing lunch but a terrible dinner, Bistro M ranks as a decent contender if you are in the Healdsburg/Windsor area.

Went here for my birthday last year, and was treated like royalty. The family that runs this restaurant is incredibly friendly.
Ordered the steak and the side of macaroni and cheese, and we often think about going back around lunch time just to get that little plate of cheese heaven. The setting is very intimate and inviting, great for a meal during the week, or a great place to take a date. Make sure you order desert!

This restaurant is in the space that used to be Langley's. Decor is non descript. Looks like the lounge at a nice airport hotel. Service was very friendly, but our waitress didn't come by much. She took our order, but our food was delivered by someone else and the check picked up by another waiter. Still, everyone was cheerful and courteous.

Pacing was off. Our waitress forgot to bring bread, which another waiter noticed and brought after about 20 min. It was cold and hard. My wife ordered French onion soup, which came out just after the bread. The soup was OK, nothing fantastic.

After the soup, we waited another 15 min before entrees came out. I had the muscles and fries. Unlike most fries in France, these were seasoned fries (as if this were a bar and I'm ordering garlic fries and watching the game on a big screen). The muscles were good.

My wife ordered the Steak Au Poivre. Instead, she got the gristle au poivre, with a small side of steak. Not impressive. We skipped dessert.

This is Mirepoix's new outpost where Langleys used to be.  Its the same menu but expanded.  Its also just as delicious.

I found the service to be excellent.  Our waiter seemed new, but he was prompt and courteous.  The owner of the restaurant came by to check on us more than once which was also nice.

    We had:

    - Croque Madame - its still the best i have ever had.  Its better than Bouchon and Absinthe.  Big with good ham and cheese, a perfect egg, and tasty mornay sauce.

    - Pear and Arugula Salad - delish.  i practically inhaled it.  well balanced flavors

    - French Onion Soup - great.  not as awesome as Bouchon's but pretty delicious.  it could have used a little more of that carmalized onion flavor, but at least it wasnt over salted, which is the most common problem i have with french onion soup.

-Roasted Chicken - amazing.  Mirepoix makes the best chicken i have ever had.  its so succulent and juicy and flavorful.  it was served over potato gratin, pearl onions and some type of mushroom.  The unifying element however was the wonderful lemon rosemary jus.  it was just great.

Creme Brulee - it was the right temperature and texture.  spot on.

i really recommend this place if you like french food.  with this place around, there really is not much of reason to go all the way to napa to eat at Bouchon.  this place is also bigger than Mirepoix which is nice, since that place is the size of a postage stamp!  recommended.

The food was great, delicious, really. However, the ambiance was lacking.  It was stuffy and very quiet. We could actually hear other people's conversations while they were speaking quietly.  The mushroom risotto served with the pork belly was good. The pork belly - not so much.  The NY strip au poivre was really good and had a zing to it - served with mashed potatoes and carrots. And the peppercorns were tender and sweet. Yum!  The dessert - lemon tart - came with the prie fixe menu and was yummy, but it was a very small sliver.
The service was nice.  If they'd turn up their music and give larger portions of desserts, I'd give it 4 stars.
$$ without wine, $$$ with wine - get the wine.

Almost everything looked and sounded great for lunch; I settled on the Pear, Arugula salad and split the Croque Madame with my friend. Both were very filling and delicious.

I've heard they just recently opened, a local directed us there but it was a little hard to find, you just kinda keep walking and and almost give up and then you're there....Unless, I totally missed the signs. It's close to a big park with a Snoopy statue.

Service was a little slow but since they're new I suspect they are still ironing out the kinks...

The bathroom. WOW! Sparkling CLEAN!! With this rose colored lighting, I really have never seen such a clean bathroom.....ever, for a restaurant.

I've been a huge fan of Mirepoix (the owners' Bryan and Matthew's other restaurant in Windsor) for years.  They've moved their bistro fare over to their new restaurant across the way to Bistro M.  Mirepoix is now more fine dining, and Bistro M is, well, a Bistro!

Basically, it's fantastic bistro food and equally fantastic pricing.  The full bar to start the evening with a well-crafted martini or Manhattan is always nice, too...for the food, there are some great dishes that may make some people squeamish--but rewarding if you take the "plunge."

My favorite is the frog's legs in a tomato/caper broth.  Escargots are good, but the lamb's tongue salad is truly a gem.  If you like lamb, you'll love this salad.  The portions are satisfying, and the bread at the table with homemade butter is so tasty I have to make myself stop eating that or I won't finish my meal.

I recommend sitting at the bar that faces the kitchen...you get to see the excitement, the food, and experience the wonderful smells first-hand.

We went the other day and my husband had the best Coq au Vin. He tried a couple other times but he said that this was the best. We learned the chef from Mirepoix cooked it and he likes to add a lot of butter. My husband can't get it out of his mind. He said it was totally different from the last 2 times. I had the Sole Meuniere and it was very good. The service was very good. This restaurant has become one of our favorites.

We also like it because it reminds of the service you get in France. Food is served at a leisurely pace, not rushed. In Europe, you're lucky to get out in 3 hours. You appreciate the food much better that way. Observe, smell, taste, and savor.

We had a lovely meal here -- they've just recently opened and I really enjoyed the bouillabaisse and would recommend it highly. I also liked the Caesar salad with the creamy anchovie dressing. They have Death and Taxes beer (and a few others from Moonlight Brewing) which is one of the very best local microbrews. They have a list of traditional items and also an avec frites menu of things like a hamburger, croque madame, lamb neck, and boudin blanc tartine (sausage sandwich kind of thing) that cost between $8-$13.

I recently had the Steelhead dinner which was really, really good along with a glasses of Death & Taxes and Reality Czech beer from Moonlight Brewing. It was a great meal.

Small but pleasing international wine list and very affordable prices. Service was very friendly, young people still getting the hang of things. Not polished, but their attempt to please us more than made up for the fumbling.

My party had such a bad experience in May that I wrote an email to the owners.  More than 2 months later I never heard back.  Friends have also had bad experiences at Mirepoix.  Here is the email:

    Subject: Bistro M disaster

    Bryan,

My husband and I have been fans of Mirepoix since you took over the space from Mariposa.  We have been several times to the new Bistro M with mixed results.  The worst was Friday night when we took our friend who frequents your restaurant almost weekly out for her birthday.  It started with the difficultly the week before to get a reservation.  The person was new and had to call me back as the system would only let us have a 5:15 or 7:30 reservation when we wanted a 6:30 one.  She did say there were plenty of tables.  We did get the desired time and looked forward to celebrating the birthday with a great friend.  We arrived to find out that there was no reservation in our name.  Luckily, there were plenty of tables so that was not a problem.

It only got worse from there.  All I can say is that either we were the forgotten table or the wait staff needs a lot more training.  There were long periods of time between ordering drinks and their arrival as well as between courses.  My husband ordered a glass of wine but the server did not even ask if the rest of us would like anything.  All in all the meal took almost 3 hours!  My friend normally sits at the bar and says that she has never had bad service and that you would be appalled at what was happening in the main dining room.

As for the meal itself, the salad was nice, fresh and nicely dressed.  However, sweet crepes for a savory dish?  I could not eat the crepes which was fine as half of them did not have any filling in them.  My husband's steak was good.

I have recommended your restaurants many times to friends and visitors (I work at a winery) but as of now I cannot.  It is a shame.  I am writing you via email as opposed to Yelp or Trip Advisor so that you can right the ship.

    Regards

I usually would rate this restaurant about a 4 ... But today was quite an unfortunate experience.  Maybe the chef couldn't come to work today; still this was no excuse for the waiter.  He couldn't wait to clear the bread and get us out of there.  I am not one to complain about food, or send things back, but in retrospect, perhaps I should have.  The cassoulet was inedible; about a cup of tasteless overcooked bean mush in the middle of a cold plate for $19.  I will think twice about going back here anytime soon.

A great burger is not what I would normally expect at a French-influenced Bistro, but one of the great efforts is created here.  Exceptional, with a house-made bun.  When the Farmer's Market opens on Thursday afternoons, you can stop in for a "to go" sack and picnic on the green in style.  While the burger caught my attention on this particular visit (along with a wonderful Potato leek soup), the rest of the menu is equally enticing, and the staff is warm and welcoming.  Windsor really got lucky when Bistro M arrived on the scene.

We had dinner at the spur of the moment and boy was it great!. I had a expresso while others had wine. The wine list was excellent.
I had the pork tenderloin while my girlfriend had the chicken.
The chicken was fall off the bone moist and tender.

All of the food was fantastic.

Terribly long wait for food even though there were few people on a Thursday for lunch.  Had the French onion soup, which was sour, steak tartare, and a croque madam.

We had an absolutely delightful evening sitting at the bar, watching the talented kitchen and conversing with the owner and his staff about life in Sonoma County and environs.  Even more than the entertaining conversations, the food is so wonderful.  We had perfect rare ahi tuna, following the suggestions of the chef, paired with a rosey Hibou Night Owl Gewurztraminer.  Oh, Maurice, the program was "Family Ties" with Michael J. Fox.  Thanks for such a terrific evening.

Bistro M was recommended to us by some good friends of ours.  We used to go here all the time when it was Langley's.  The food was really good, but they were out of a few items.   They have a lot of choices on the menu, and I'm not a huge fan of french food, but this was really good.   The service was good and every one was very friendly.  Next we need to try a lunch here.   We would recommend this place to anyone!

I had a nice salad with fruits and beets.  The dressing was good and the salad was just as I liked.

The sole that I ordered though had too many capers and was a bit dry.  The sauce just didn't go well with the fish.  The spinach was a bit overcooked, but the small potatoes were fine.

The french bread that they give you is good.  The service is nice, although we were the only patrons at 5p tonight.

Everyone else in our party seemed to enjoy their meals.  The mussels for $12 was a great deal as they give you 25 mussels over pomme frites.  The lamb shank looked good as did the hamburger.

    Parking is super easy.

Had a really nice light lunch here on 5/29/10.  We sat outside under a shady umbrella, next to some nice trees and hedges that provided just enough privacy.  Our waitress was wonderful--really made us feel welcomed and appreciated.  The bread was wonderful.  My wife ordered just the frites and they were crispy, with a sprinkle of parsley, and ready to dip in mayonnaise.  I ordered the cream of broccoli and was amazed at the texture--creamy but not machine pureed.  Desserts were fantastic:  creme brulee for my wife and a wonderful butterscotch pudding for me.  We will definitely seek this bistro out again!

We went last night and were very impressed. I've spent considerably more for less. I had the frisee salad, which was so good that I started to think we'd made a find, and then the lamb shank, which was just superb. I don't like lamb shanks particularly, but I ordered it on the waiter's recommendation and boy, was he right.

The bread wasn't very flavorful, and at these (excellent) prices I suppose I can't expect a tablecloth. If that's the worst thing I can say, they're doing a terrific job. One other thought: consider re-orienting table #1 so I look out the windows rather than at the back of the restaurant.

Bistro M certainly hasn't lost anything in the transition from being the old Mirepoix. It isn't as quaint/cozy as it used to be, but the space is very nice, with a full bar and more seating. The service was great and the food, still amazing and very reasonable (I had the pepper steak and frisee salad). Can't wait to see what Chef Ben has done with the new Mirepoix! Oh yeah, the wine list continues to wow!

A wonderful sunday brunch with unusual items.
Has Crepes suzette, but other unusual items on the menu included steak tatar, frogs legs, etc. Very reasonable prices which were the same for lunch or dinner.

Bistro M is in the place where Langley's on the Green use to be. It has been cleaned up and it is much lighter inside which I like. I had lunch there last Thursday with 5 friends and we all said this is a place that we want to come back to. Everything from our very nice & accommodating waitress to our lunch was excellent. To start with I had a bowl of their potato/leek soup, then Flank steak, medium rare, just as I like it, with a onion jam sauce with fries, and butterscotch pudding for dessert. Needless to say,  I skipped dinner that night. All my friends had different menu items than I had, and not one complaint.  It was all just the best. As you may know, Bistro M is owned by the same owners as Mirepoix.  Mirepoix is another favorite restaurant on Windsor Rd..

Shows what hard working, artistic people can do when they set their minds to it.  Bryan and Mathew take the Gold Metal for the Bistro experience. I eat lunch here often with business associates and friends. Fantastic food, great wine list, friendly and competent service. Recommend you start with the butter  lettuce salad to get your taste buds ready for any of the wonderful main course items. I especially like the trout almandine or the steelhead salmon (a new addition to the menu within the last couple of days).  And of course, you cannot leave without sampling their home made butterscotch pudding - nostalgic!

Bistro M exceeded our expectations.  I would suggest that everyone start with a Parisienne Palm and some fresh oysters.  Then move on to a Caesar salad.  Many good entrees and an equally good wine list.  A must visit for anyone visiting the Windsor area.
