Never had the lunch buffet. One of the big reasons why I miss living in Collingswood is this place.
Calamari app-YUM!
Veal medallions served with crab meat and asparagus tips in a lemon cream sauce - YUM YUM!
Filet mignon topped with asparagus tips and lump crab meat in a mustard cream sauce. - THE BIG O!!!
It's a cute little BYOB. Perfect for a date or a family gathering.
BEST EATS IN COLLINGSWOOD!
This evening we used one of Bistro's buy one entree get one free mailing coupons to order the Chicken Francaise & Chicken Marsala. Both dishes were done very well, sauces held up well in the short walk back to the abode. The sauteed spinach with garlic was excellent, the potatoes that came on the side could use some love, however I am not complaining at all since we paid $11 for the two entrees and a side of long hots, two small cannolis (come with purchase) and two fresh rolls.
We will definitely be back, maybe even a once a week it is definitely a "don't feel like cooking" option just around the corner.
My coworker and I went to Bistro di Marino for lunch on Good Friday. The lunch buffet is the only option at that time of the day. There was one soup, three salads, two pasta dishes, two chicken dishes and a bowl of fruit salad. Normally, this selection would have been fine, but since it was the final Friday in Lent I was pretty limited with what I could eat.
The salads were fantastic. One had walnuts, pears, blue cheese and vinaigrette and another had tomatoes, red onion, Kalamata olives and vinaigrette. The third was a Caesar, which I skipped.
One pasta dish had fettuccine with eggs and some type of creamy sauce. I found this combo to be somewhat odd for an Italian pasta dish, and it didn't really do anything for me when I tried it. The other pasta was penne and vodka sauce, which I have had many times at this restaurant and have always loved. I tried to pick around the pancetta but my efforts were futile. At least I didn't eat the chicken, right?
For $12 a person, I would probably return again for lunch, but I definitely prefer the regular menu offerings during dinner service.
The gnocchi were voted best in South Jersey, so I ordered them in a pesto cream sauce. They were very good. The portion was large enough for two. The salads we ordered, the house salad (mixed greens and tomotoes in a balsamic vinaigrette) and a salad with pears and gorgonzola, were fresh and good. They serve warm, crusty rolls with a hearty oil infused with basil. My cousin ordered a veal dish with a cream sauce and crab. She loved it; it wasn't my thing.
Most impressive was our server. Since we weren't drinking, we didn't bring alcohol (it's a byob). There were no beverages on the menu (or I missed them), so I asked if they had lemonade. "No, but I'm not busy so I'll make it for you," was our server's response. She headed back and used the lemonades on hand to make me a glass of lemonade! I was perfectly willing to choose something else, but she was so accommodating with any of our questions or requests. They also let us hang out late, chatting.
Desserts are from Miel pastry and were good. The presenation is exceptional.
One negative: the smooth jazz duo was a bit loud and made conversation a bit challenging at times. Otherwise they played jazz on WRTI and it was nice. The restaurant itself is very modern, with exposed brick and track lighting.
All you can eat lunch buffet is the way to go here. It's about $10 per person, and you have your pick of basically everything they offer. When I visited, there were two hot soups, four salads, and six hot entrees, all of which were freshly prepared and not sitting out for long periods of time, as buffets tend to have. I had chicken parmigiana, penne with vodka sauce, and a bean and sausage concoction that was unreal. I hardly had room for the cannoli - but how could I resist a tower of cannoli?
I enjoyed Bistro Di Marino very much, ate dinner there a few times. Very good Italian food. Bring your own alcohol establishment. The head chef and wait staff are young and very courteous. Also, they have a really cool modern-looking sink in the men's bathroom, sweet!
