Food is creative!  Wine selection is impressive too. The locals know how good it is because it's always busy!

Last time I posted about this place was WELL over a year ago.  I tried it with my friend AGAIN the last time I went thru La Grange, about a month ago.    At the "encouragement" from ANOTHER yelp member I was "urged" to write yet ANOTHER review, a year later?!?!?.   This is, yes I am saying this, probably the best in town.  I had a steak again and it was done medium as I requested and the salad was fresh.  However, I do stand by my opinion that the waitstaff should be allowed to do their jobs without being berated in front of the customers as I have seen here on occasion.  It does not make the dining experience enjoyable.

My co-workers and I had dinner at Bistro 108 last night.  We made reservations for 8, arrived on time and spent about $300.00 collectively.  But we had the WORST service ever. We were greeted with a female server who said, "listen up because I am only going to tell you the dressings once".  Then proceeded to be very unpleasant each time she came to our table to serve us.  Everything seemed to be an incconvience to her.  Only two of us wanted coffee at the end and she was spening so much time on the checks that we requested to cancel them.  She told us it was to much trouble to cancle them and proceeded to charge us and sent them in a Togo cup.  The coffee was horrible.  The food was good and the only splice to the extremely poor service.  Order food to go.

Sometimes it's the company and conversation that makes the meal. Sometimes it's not having any preconceptions about the meal. Sometimes it's helpful to not be too hungry by the time you are seated. Pleasant surprises always help. Oh, and a good location and a slightly daring menu are helpful too, if not a must. When you have a convergence of all these factors you get a memorable dining experience and not just a good meal.

My friend was playing a gig at The Bugle Boy. Lane explained that one of his perqs for playing that night was a free meal at Bistro 108 (well almost free - the cost of one of his CD's which could have a cross-promotional factor if they decided to play it in the restaurant). Until then, on our trip in from Austin we had only crossed paths with the Chinese buffet and a DQ, so I was game.

We headed down. I didn't know what to expect. It was La Grange after all. Even with Bistro in the name I was thinking that something deep fried and smothered in gravy or bbq sauce was in my immediate future. It's good to be wrong sometimes.

We stepped inside this very small establishment after having no difficulty finding parking on the street that late Saturday afternoon. The words quaint and cozy may sound a bit trite in any review but go and you'll see that they accurately apply.

Plenty of specials abound in this eclectic menu, much of it East TX/Western LA inspired. This is complimented by a small but tight wine list, a knowledgeable wait staff and consistent execution on each of the menu items.

The conversation flowed like the wine and the plates of food and before too long it was show time and I had to get Peter back to The Bugle Boy for sound checks even though I felt like lingering a bit longer.

Tired of the same old, same old-75 minute wait and crush of trend lemmings you get everywhere else in Austin? Tired of chain eating? Don't mind taking a little drive, particularly now that gas is less than 2 bux a gallon? I'd recommend the trip East out of town. I don't think you'll be disappointed. Afterwards you can walk off the meal and the wine by strolling a few hundred yards into the town square to take a gander at one of the classic Texas courthouses.

We drove to La Grange last night from Austin to hear a friend sing at the Bugle Boy.  Since the show didn't start until 8pm we decided to have an early dinner in La Grange before the show.  I was very pleasantly surprised to find Bistro 108.  My expectations weren't too high since the restaurant was in such a small town.
I started with the wedge salad and my friend had a Caesar.  The wedge was just like the standard wedge you would get at any good steakhouse except the tomatoes were so flavorful and the chopped bacon was warm.  For our entrees we had the mussels(which are on the appetizer menu) and the tortilla crusted snapper.  Both the mussels and the snapper tasted very fresh.  The snapper had many layers of flavor.  We concluded the meal with a piece of homemade coconut pie....outstanding!

While a cute and quaint place I could not get over the order failures, expensive flat wine, tiny portions, the extra costs added on and that your chair is bumped by every waitress, patron and even the owner.  I couldn't hear the group I came with for the people at the next table being so close and while pleasant, I came with others at my table.  Go if you must but sit on the patio as this once great spot is not just drinking its own bathwater while reading their own press clippings. Number 109 next time please - save the drive.

my fiance lives in houston, and i live in austin. we decided to meet at the halfway point for dinner one night. so we decided to meet in la grange and eat at bistro 108.
we really enjoyed ourselves. we were very surprised when we walked in at the atmosphere. i was expecting some kind of truck stop atmosphere and instead walked into a beautiful and romantic setting. we were greeted immediately and seated. our waiter was friendly, funny and very attentive. the rest of the staff was helpful too, bringing water, taking plates, etc.
i enjoyed the food very much. we both had the rosemary chicken ravioli. i was a bit surprised at the portion size. it was smaller than i was expecting, but i think that smaller portion sizes are appropriate, considering what a large percentage of this country is overweight. i was satisfied with my meal, NOT stuffed.
luckily, our wedding is next month, so we won't have to live in two different cities anymore. however, in the meantime, we plan on  meeting at bistro 108 again on the weekend while we are still apart.
we'd recommend going here! i noticed that a lot of the reviews mention things about the owner and her weight. how incredibly rude can you get?

When deciding I wanted a change of pace, on my way to El Campo; I visited http://Yelp.com for suggestions, and ran across the listing for Bistro 108. I suggested it to my mate, wondering if he would wince at the name, probably thinking it wasn't manly enough for his tastes....but, he decided to trust me and we made the stop. Due to the ombience, wine selection, and great food choices, from their small menu; it will go down as one of the best dates I've had in quite some time! I recommend the Scampi, paired with Red New Zealand vino! The staff were attentive and sweet, and the location could not be better - this Bistro was a refreshing flavor to my usual buffet of restaurants, and has now given El Campo's Greek Brothers a run for it's money! The one caveat I must throw out is that the establishment itself is rather small - maybe seats up to 50 - which is no problem for my lovely party of 2!

Had dinner here with my family yesterday (1/22/09).  We were out in La Grange for a concert at the Bugle Boy and my folks had eaten at this place before.

The location is very nice, just off the main square.  You can get in a nice walk before dinner and see the courthouse, jail and many other historic buildings.

Thankfully we made reservations, it was Friday night and the place was very crowded (there was room on the nice patio out back but it was a little to windy).

The restaurant is cozy and would feel a bit cramped (they squeeze in a lot of tables) but the decor is bright and the waitstaff is friendly and efficient so you can easily focus on the food.

There is a nice variety of French, Italian and American dishes with a lot of seafood options.  There is a full page wine list on the back of the menu with a good variety.  I got a 1/2 bottle of cava for $10.

I had the shrimp and crawfish bisque and the shrimp scampi pasta.  My brother had the chicken parm.  Mom and Dad had salads.

Everything was very good, I can't make it 5 stars because the food was just a bit too rich for me (lots of butter and cream) nothing over the top but I think if they toned down the richness the quality of there food would show better.

All is all a great little bistro, friendly staff, nice location, good food.

I've only been here for lunch, so I can't speak to the dinner menu or service. Despite all the poor reviews, this place, has great salads, which can be hard to find in small Texas towns. I usually have the Field Green Salad with Salmon and a Lemon-Ginger Vinaigrette. I've never seen poor quality greens and the salmon is always cooked right. They can be busy, but I've never had to wait long for a table or food. All-in-all, great food for La Grange.

We had a really nice dinner here this past weekend, and for the most part I would completely recommend this restaurant.  The man at the door was there immediately when we or anyone walked up and was very nice, offered us drinks, very attentive while we waited for a table.  It was pretty crowded inside, but not overly so, just a small place with a lot of people.  The one thing that bothered me had came next when we were served our drinks, cokes, which are served warm with a tall glass of water.  I just don't get restaurants that can't keep their sodas chilled, but other than that everything was wonderful.  I had the fried catfish and shrimp and my husband had the t-bone steak that came with scalloped potatoes.  I didn't like the catfish, but I think that was just because I must not like catfish, but the shrimp was good and my husbands steak and potatoes were great!  All in all a good experience and I'd definitely recommend it!
