4 reviews for Birnbaum Nina MD
I'm really surprised to see negatives reviews of Nina. On one hand I feel like I should keep her as my own secret, but on the other hand it simply seems unjust to leave this negative information in circulation.
Nina has been nothing but attentive, thoughtful, and proactive in my health care. She has researched information regarding a family history of cancer and emailed me information. She also respectfully listened to me explain why I believed that I had pneumonia, and then quickly diagnosed (correctly) a mold allergy after I casually mentioned that I had moved to a different apartment.
I find Nina down to earth, accessible, and smart. She's the best doctor that I've ever had, hands down.
Dr. Birnbaum is an incredibly intelligent, caring doctor. Her "bedside manner" is wonderful - she is always at ease and genuinely interested; never in a rush to complete the appointment nor coldly detached like so many doctors today. My interactions with her have seemed as though a trusted friend had been advising me - she neither talks down to one nor does she rely solely on medical-ese. Her advice has always been excellent!
Does your doctor call you on her day off to give you lab results from your latest visit? Does she remember details about a random conversation you had with her 3 years ago in passing? Does she offer to help you revise and edit your grad school personal statement? No? Because mine does. And she is fantastic. Dr. Birnbaum is friendly, smart and incredibly busy. But, she is really worth the wait. She is, hands down, the best doctor I've ever had. Don't mistake her sense of efficiency for insensitivity--she is perceptive and warm, despite her ridiculously full practice.
I really loved Dr. Birnbaum when I started going to her, she was very attentive and listened to what I had to say. But over the years and since the practice switched to Sutter Health I've been really let down. I had a blood clot during my pregancy and went to Dr. Birnbaum after I had the baby to follow up on what to do about my clotty blood, she had me continue on the blood thinners but didn't have my records from the hospital, so told me to come back in two weeks. When I came back she asked me "what brings you here today?" She had no recollection of what we had talked about 2 weeks earlier, I don't think she even looked at my chart. I explained that this was the 2 week follow up she told me to make and she flipped through my chart and let me know she still didn't have the records with my blood work and I would have to wait. I kept calling and I never got a call back about my blood condition.
Per her orders, I got my blood tested every other week to make sure I was on the right amount of blood thinners and I never got a call back with results, I always had to call myself and talk to at least 3 people before I got an answer. No one ever got back to me on what's wrong with my blood, no one in the office has been able to get my records from the hospital. About 4 months later I finally did go back in to talk with someone, anyone, and the nurse practiconer seemed perplexed as to why I was still on blood thinners. She said I should have been off of them a month ago. It was all very frustrating.
With all that said, I really did like Dr. Birnbaum when I started going there, but I think over the years the practice has been stretched too thin and there's no room left for the personal care that I feel I need from a doctor.
