Not sure what store Doug B went into, but it probably wasn't Birken & Bailey. The ladies that own and run B&B are wonderful. Very knowledgeable and helpful. Yeah, they may not have everything under the sun for dogs/pets, but they are a *boutique*, not a pet superstore.
If you are looking for something different, unusual and special for your special furry-friend, check out Birken & Bailey's.
PS - The Paia Birken & Bailey's has closed and they are now in Kihei at the Azeka's Mauka Shopping Center. Their store is now twice as big and they have the greatest "doggie events"!! Go to their Kihei store and sign up for their emailing list!
I'm going to be totally honest about my first impression walking in to Birkin & Bailey's Boutique. I went in before I got my dog, looking for some cat nip, and I thought to myself, "Well this is really cute, and would be great if I had a tiny dog in my hand bag."
They have a very limited selection of things for cats, but do have my cat's preferred brand of cat nip.
I went in again since they're close to home while I was preparing to get my dog and looked around a little more. It turns out that while they do have a bunch of adorable little things for little dogs (as well as two adorable little dogs, Birkin and Bailey, that often grace the shop with their presence) they also have a ton of toys and accessories that even a Pit Bull would enjoy. I found a great nylon adjustable collar and leash that was designed locally, as well as some really sturdy toys and treats for my dog (who isn't huge, but likes to chew and wouldn't fit in even my largest handbag).
They are about to open a new larger location in Kihei which will carry more food and larger items.
This is a great place to stop if you're visiting and want to bring something unique back to your dog. It's also a great place to shop if you live here, if your dog is cute and small, big and tough, or somewhere in between.
It's hard to find a good pet store, and I am so glad that we have an awesome locally owned (the owners are rad!) store here to keep my dog happy.
