I didn't really know anything about Bird's until i found them here on Yelp. So when i saw their shop while driving down Burnet i decided to drop in...not wanting to break my 3N rule.

1.) In the Neighborhood.
2.) Need it anyway.
3.) Nothing else better to do.

They had the place decked out in Halloween themed stuff everywhere. And of course were playing some great tunes. I got Kim for my haircutress, who was easy to talk too and friendly. So after a Snip, Clip n' a Tip, i was done in a flash and had a pretty darn decent hair cut.

I enjoyed the layed back atmosphere and while i actually refrained from enjoying a beer on this occasion i think I'll try that next time around.

When my budget's tight and I can't go to Kelly @ Platypus, I go here.

I actually enjoy waiting for a haircut here. They have great magazines that are too expensive for me to buy, I can drink a Lone Star, and they play great music. I can also fantasize what it would be like to be hipster mom in my mid 30s living in Allandale with my cute, bespectacled, settled, post-skateboard-played-in-an-indie-band husband. 'Cos they are a-plenty here. And it's about as close as I'm going to get to THAT scene.

I've gotten about 4 haircuts from Jennifer D., and she's AMAZING. She's a GENIUS. She has VISION. She is also very funny. She's able to do thorough texturizing on my crazy wavy too-much hair. She also cut my boyfriend's hair, and he LIKED it, and he's really picky.

Also, it's cheap.

A hint, tho: You may want to call 1 hour ahead. Sometimes it can get so busy that you can't get in, especially late in the day, towards the weekend. No big deal, I promise, just call ahead.

As a female with curly hair it can be a nightmare to get even a passable professional haircut for less than $50 or $60. Thankfully, Birds exists and employs people like Angela, who cut my ringlets to keep them ringing, and gave me good advice on how to maintain my mop. Not only that, but it cost me just around $40 WITH tip!

Not being all that fashion-savvy (hair wise at least) I just said, "keep the curl, cut any length you need to keep it healthy" and I ended up with a world class style that compliments my face shape and is easy to get looking great in the morning.

Good stuff all around.

if they had no stars I would rate this place with it, but 1 is as low as it goes.
It should not be allowed to be called a Barber Shop, it is a salon, period. Full of hipster girls that look unhappy to even be working. I don't blame them, the music is obnoxious and there seems to be a bit of cat fighting going on. This is NOT a barber shop. To be fair, I should mention I am a grown man that is happily married, so my POV may not be what a younger man might have gotten.Oh , the haircut,....not the worst, not nearly the best, but not worth the price either.

Used to be good.   Now the service is poor and the staff is lazy.   Called ahead and put name on wait list.   Was told to wait 1:15 hrs before coming. Which was great until I arrived.  I was on the list and they said one person was in front of me.   Some how 3 people were sat before I was.  While I was waiting as the three other people were sat each hair dresser that finished would stand around on there own for 10 minutes.  Then they would talk to the receptionist for another 10 minutes.  Then they would seat someone.   20 minutes waisted.

Will not go back.

Not very happy.

This is not the worst haircut I've had, but given the stellar reviews on Yelp I was expecting a lot more.

My haircut is nothing special, a buz cut, 2 on sides, 3 on the top with a little scissor trimming for the bangs, pretty straight forward.

The place was not busy, but I got the feeling that my barber wanted to get me out of there as fast as she could.

The result, stray long hairs all over, uneven cutting over the top with a big hole on one side.

I've been pretty busy with work and a grad school application so it has taken me a while to get this review in.  My haircut is looking even worse as it grows out.

Maybe I should have dug through the reviews to see if a particular barber was the result of the 4-5 star ratings.

Bird's clearly employees at lot of folks, so maybe I just got one of there sub par barbers.  Unfortunately it's been long enough that can't recall the name of the woman who gave me my haircut.

So, I'd say that if you want 4-5 star haircut make sure look through the reviews for the right barber and schedule an appointment.

MAGNOLIA IS WHERE ITS AT!

This woman is amazing!

I hadn't cut my hair since February, and after getting a less-than-wonderful cut from Birds last year I wasn't too quick to hop in the chair. But Magnolia took me on as a walk-in and took the photo I brought in and worked it so it fit me! I can't stand it when I get my hair cut with a photo guide and the end result looks like the photo but not good on me at all. She did an amazing job and took her time with me... She even took the time to cut my new bangs in stages so I could make sure I actually wanted them as short as the photo I brought!

After a stellar wash, blow dry, flat iron, and cut she took time to explain the products she used on me without trying to guilt me into buying any salon featured products.

Her super friendly demeanor is totally worth a higher price!

Anyone looking for a great haircut and good conversation, visit Magnolia at Bird's Burnet!

Birds is rad.  It is perfect for the whole fam damly.  My husband, myself, and my three year old all get our hair cut there.  We look fantastic.  Also, we enjoy playing video games and having a Lonestar.  We are always in and out in under an hour which is perfect.

This weekend I was playing MarioKart and other Wii games with my 5 year old son, and realized that the hairstyle on my Mii does not resemble my current hairstyle in the slightest, and my Mii looks way more cool than I do.  So this morning I lept on to the tubes and found Birds.
I really like being able to wake up one morning and say to myself - "OMG I need to get my haircut TODAY", and then being able to make that happen.  So that's what I did.
Their motto is "Walk In, Rock Out".  So I did that too.
Love my new haircut, my husband says that I really DO look like my Mii.
Yay!!  Thank you Samantha!  I'll be back.

Okay, I have received two horrible hatchet jobs from Birds in the past and one okay haircut...I vowed on the grave of my grandmother that I would never ever go back, no matter how tempting the lonestars may be .that is until today! It began late last night...I had decided to cut my own hair, because really how hard could it be?, um very hard, it got shorter and shorter and more lopsided every time I went into the bathroom trying to tweak it.  I woke up and like a one night stand looking at my own reflection pondered, what the f have I done?  I called the only place I knew would have a walk-in, Birds.
Very easy friendly scheduling. I went in like a horror show, self imposed nonsensical layers, random lopsidedness, a mess plain and simple.
I hooked up with a beautiful girl named carla, she translated my mess into something workable and into the actual hairstyle I was striving for.  Let's say, I actually love it, it's me all around , not too done, not too trendy, and workable , workable for my face and hair type. I use to think that Birds only employed hungover hairstyle school rejects, I know, harsh! But I think things are changing, and they seem to have at least one great talent.  She saved my hair, and took me from Walmart to Target, okay Walmart to at least SoHo. you know in terms of style.  So my first yelp, goes out to Carla, and I am saying, I generally go to $100 and up stylists, and Carla did it for me!   She worked with my curly messed up hair. and she did it fast too!

oh, ps.  I read in another review that they don't offer mommies beers, and I have to confirm it! They flat out did not offer me a drink, it made me sad. Mommy's need beer the most ,don't you know?

I always have trouble explaining what kind of style I want, so I end up actin' tha fool with hand gestures and pulling on my hair in various directions. Most places just smile, nod and cut, but they actually listened to my ideas and came up with something that worked.

I'll definitely be going again!

I had the pleasure of getting my hair cut at Bird's yesterday by Angela.  I couldn't have been more pleased.  I had waited until that point when "enough is enough" and I had to get my hair cut immediately.  My regular guy was out of town for a week, so I after looking at a few Yelp reviews, I called Bird's to see if Angela was available.  Called at 3:45 and they said that she had an opening at 4:45.  I left work early and got there just in time.  I had brought some images of a few inverted bob haircuts that I liked, and she gave me exactly what I was hoping for.  I think it's one of the best haircuts I've gotten in a long time, and I even drank a Lonestar while I got my cut.  Great experience all around.

Took my son there today as he really needed his locks trimmed. He typically does not like haircuts from unfamiliar places but the quirky inside as well as the stylists kept him guessing. After the cut he looked in the mirror and remarked that this was the bet cut he ever had. Sweet.

This place is awesome!  While you wait, you've got free classic arcade games, an excellent magazine selection and usually some good music - it just depends on whose ipod is playing that day.

As for the haircut, Nikki is the best. She instantly made me feel comfortable and she's great at making conversation.  That means a lot from me considering I used to just sit in silence and get my hairs cut everywhere else.  She takes her time with each person and I get a consistently great cut every time I'm there.  I'm glad I finally found my go-to spot.  Thanks Nikki!

Austin has spoiled me because now I think I need a rock and roll hair style for every event I go to. I'm worried that I can no longer fix my own hair. I may be becoming something akin to a diva! Gasp!

Oh, all right. That's an exaggeration. But, I did go by here on my most recent trip to Austin and JT did give me a fantastic new 'do for the Yelp Open Party. Here's some proof - http://static.px.yelp....

I love this place. It's fun. It's funky. And you can play Ms. Pac-Man. For free. While drinking beer. That's Rock and Roll, if you know what I mean.

I used to cut my hair by myself, but after 3 years of doing that it got annoying and I would always wind up with jacked up hair and could never get the back quite right. So I checked out Bird's.

After going here 3 times in about 6 months I felt like it was kind of hit or miss. I got a different hairdresser every time and each time they ask you the same old questions about where you work, where you're from, what do you like to do blah blah... Haircutting is a very personal thing to me so I would prefer to develop a relationship with whomever is taking care of my head. I wouldn't say I ever got a bad haircut there, just mediocre. But all the stylists seem nice and they give you free beer. AND they have Snakepit on the table of reading material. Pretty awesome.

So the last time I went I got another different person, but this time I got a kickass amazing haircut that I love. He gave me a shampoo which he didn't charge me for and did my hair as pretty much exactly what I asked for. I was gonna start asking for him each time, but he's moving out of town soon. Oh well. I will go back and try to get someone else good and start requesting that person.

Girrrrrrrrl! Betta watch out! Ima stop traffic when I walk outta here! Actually my hair is so big and blown out right now that I might actually block street signs and signals. Sweet.

I walked in here with a crew of Yelpers, the CM from Denver (Tiffany C), CM from H-town (Farrah A), and of course big poppa himself, the CM from Austin, Kevin N! Kev was already rockin' a style, but Tif, Far and myself were hooked up with the fliest of styles. Tiffany is chillin' with a punk style bouffant and playing old school Ms. Pacman, while I sit in mad jealousy (I love Ms. Pacman) in my tricked out voluminous hair. Farrah forgot her straightener and blow dryer (GASP!) so she is sitting in the comfortable stylist's chair with a thank-you-sweet-freaking-Jesus smile on her face.

I feel like my coolness has been lifted a few notches. But whether you slip in here in skinny jeans or a suit, the laid-back and talented stylists will hook you up with a nice mop. A turntable sits in the entrance teasing all record players. Speaking of records, Michael Jackson (the Bad album), MC Hammer and Weird Al Yankovic are all staring down at me from the wall they decorate. The other wall has an amaaaazing mural on it complete with breakdancer covered rainbows shooting out of clouds, hot pink hair pics raining down from the sky, and ice cream cone rockets. The only thing it's missing is a unicorn. Ah, don't you love a god uni? How did they get inside my head?

Prices are cheap. Mohawks and buzzcuts are $15, shortcuts are $19, rockstar cuts (I guess dude cuts) are $25, ladybirds (chicks) are only $39, and color starts at $50. Come in for a shave and only spend 25 bones, or bring the kiddos in for a cheap $15-24 cut.

As the sign says, walk in, rock out!

UPDATE 01/24/09:

Maricela from Bird's contacted me just a few hours after this was posted to apologize for my experience and issue me a refund. That greatly helps add to my respect for their attention to customer service. I might give Bird's another shot someday, since it seems that they are turning over a new leaf.
-------------------------------------------------- -----------------------------------------------
Original post:

Ok, so a few of my friends got their hair cut here, and it looked fine on them, so I decided to give Bird's a shot rather than deal with the prissy girls who usually cut my hair at Ulta Salons.

Big mistake.

Even after calling ahead, I had to wait for half an hour before my stylist was ready. The friend I went with got her hair cut and was finished before they even called me. When I got into the chair, I even had a picture-  A PICTURE- of what I wanted. I got nothing even in the vaguest realm of what the haircut in that picture looked like.

I WANTED an angled bob, with the ends kept really long to frame my face. I had hair that passed my shoulders, and I told the stylist that I wanted to keep the length around my face, and only take up the length in the back.

I GOT a pageboy. Seriously. A blunt, chin length cut all the way around. I looked like a medieval squire. I'm the type who doesn't yell at a stylist or demand her money back, but cries all the way home.

I ended up going to Ulta the next day anyway to try to fix it, which they managed to do a little. At least it was a bit more angled when they were through with it. So I paid about $70 for two haircuts in two days.

Bad, bad, bad, never again.

(For the record, my friend's hair was fine- she just got a trim. I guess I'm just unlucky.)

I am low-maintenance.  A tomboy.  An *engineer*.  My idea of "style" is a ponytail, my blowdryer rarely sees the light of day, and I think that "product" is code for "expensive crap that makes your hair sticky", so to say that I don't spend much time thinking about my hair is a bit of an understatement.

So, as the weather began to approach triple digits, I wandered into Birds with my half-off coupon, mumbled something about "shorter", "no bangs", and "layers good", and let Taryn work her magic.  Half an hour (or more) later I had *adorable* hair, cuter, lighter, and with far more waves/texture than it usually has.  Best of all, it's easy to maintain!  Wash & go.  It looks cute wet, it looks cute when it air dries.  Awesome!

I'll be back and I'll probably request Taryn, as she did a magnificent job interpreting my nondescript mumblings and making me look fabulous.  :)

Left smiling and looking pretty good for the shape I'm in.

I waited much too long for this haircut, but JT didn't laugh at my approximation of Rick Perry/Rod Blagojevich moptoppery.  A Lonestar in my hand, I put my head in his hands, as it were.  With clippers, not the chainsaw I had expected, and scissors, he snipped and clipped away at my unruly mop of salt & (mercifully more) pepper till once again the sheer weight of it didn't upset the beer belly center of balance equilibrium I have been nurturing so carefully these past few decades.

It looked good, not too fussed over, and able to be restyled with some water and a scrunch of my hand--low maintenance head cover, just what the doctor ordered.

Pleasant, clean, comfy and reasonably priced.  A good haircut too.

Kids cuts: $15 and free classic video games. My little guys love Birds. Cuts are dependably good if some times not as good as others: a bit of flair and they are gentle and respectful to the boys.

Things to know:

If you're a mom and bring your kids in for a haircut, they won't offer you a beer.

If you ask for a beer, they will give it to you, but not before Noon (how embarrassing).

If you ask for a second beer (I figured, you know, I have TWO haircuts going on), they won't give you a second Lone Star (mortifying).

If you go devotedly to this location, the staff *might* remember you (Kim did) but otherwise, it's pretty anonymous. Which is OK. Especially if you've embarrassed yourself.

Twice.

A shot in the dark:

You: Tattooed guy with beard. Me: Strapping southern dude with what seemed like a mullet sat down in your chair, you asked some brief questions and went to town. I was your 18th haircut, and we said nothing to each other. I just stared in the mirror and wondered how fucked up it must be to have to stare at yourself all day. Do you ever wonder who the person is in the mirror you're looking at, when you're looking at yourself? I do, sometimes. I would have appreciated some of this hair stylist wisdom and reflection, but you were not in the mood.

After an unprecedented 14 minutes on my post-modern hair growth patterns, you swung the chair around, I made a comment on the expedient cut, and you said half-heartedly you had lots of practice. The small talk was awkward, as was my taking a  can of beer with me out the door to my car.

After all those bullshit fancy salons I've been to in LA and NYC, you gave me the best haircut of my life. So when I go into Bird's next time and ask for the tattooed guy with the beard and slight beer gut, and they say "which one?"....wtf do I do?

I'd be primed to criticize the assembly line approach, and wish you would have been chatty to me like the bubbly Cyndi Lauper stylist working on the "professional" limo driver next to me with his C-list celebrity gossip, but what you did in such a short time for so little money was genius.

So, as it turns out...cutting my own bangs was NOT such a bright idea. It was passable, albeit laughable, as I rocked the "sweet 6th grade, take life by the scissors" approach to hairstyling.

I did TRY to get real bangs a few weeks ago, but my stylist said "no, that'll look like you are trying too hard." Ahem, trying too hard to what? Have bangs? Yes. That's what I want to look like!

Anyway, I ended up with long sideswept bangs, not what I really wanted, so I got annoyed and cut them myself. Long story short. Sort of.

Then I went to Austin, and wanted to get a faux-hawk at Bird's (because I was jealous of Tiffany C's) and for the first time in my life, they told me that my hair was TOO long for something! Wahooooooo!

So Nicky spruced up my bangs, and gave me some "Amy Winehouse" poof to satisfy my inner rockstar tendencies. She was sweet, quick, efficient...and gave me a tour around the super cool shop. Video games? Ping pong decor? This place ROCKS.

Seriously, this place is where its at. I might just have to go every time I'm in ATX.

I don't have much rock-star style going on, but since I'm new to town, and the folks at Bird's hosted such a great Yelp event a few months ago, I decided to give them a try.

I walked in with pretty much a blank canvas. I had been growing out my hair for my wedding, and now that the nuptials are over, I was ready to cut cut cut!

Enter Mark at Birds. He is new to town, too! I wanted to put some all over color to blend out my highlights, as well, and Mark did a great job at going over my options for the color and cut. I don't think he knew what he was getting himself into, because though it doesn't look like it, I have a LOT of hair. It isn't thick, but there are just an enormous amount of actual hairs. Instead of loosing his cool or getting impatient with my abundance of hair, he worked his damn heart out to make sure that every single strand was saturated with color. Bravo, Mark!

The end result is fabulous. A lot of stylists are afraid to cut too much hair off my head, which results in extra bulk for me. Not Mark. He thinned the heck out of it, which is exactly what it needed.

The tunes and vibes of the place also kept me entertained. Thanks!

My husband finds out today (on a Sunday) that he needs to go out-of-town for a week in the morning ... and his hair really needs to be cut. So based on yelp reviews, I thought that sending him to Bird's was a well-informed idea. I was hoping that at least he would get something a bit better than Supercuts.
I was way off-base. My husband comes home with a haircut that is terrible. The stylist at Bird's did not cut cleanly around his ears (there were many long hairs still in places) and did not bother using the electric razor to clean up his neck hair. Worse yet, one side of his hair on the top is all puffy, next to his part. The stylist apparently told him that "she didn't know what to do with his cowlick there." She mentioned that she was an artist that was only cutting hair to make ends meet, maybe she should stick with that.
Needless to say, my husband won't be going back. I shouldn't have to be getting the scissors out to fix his haircut so that he can look presentable in front of clients in the coming week.

I'm a middle-aged man (and brave enough to admit it), searching high and low for haircut where the options aren't:
A:  "Do you want a #2 or a #3 razor cut?"
B: "If we let the hair on top grow out, you can comb it over the thinning areas."
C: "Ever thought about shaving your head?"
D: "If we use enough product, the actual cut won't matter!"
I walked into Bird's with trepidation (Didn't figure I was hip enough), but a free Lone Star settled my nerves.  Nikki listened to my tale of woe and said, "Oh, it's not that bad, let's try something."  Ten minutes later, I'm sporting a cut that almost makes me look human - Nikki's a freakin' miracle worker.  Worth every penny of the $19 plus tip.  If you are reading this, do yourself a favor and give 'em a try.  Stylist schedules are on their website.

I have now been to Birds twice.  During my first visit, I made the mistake of not calling ahead and I waited a solid hour before somebody was available.  I kept watching people come in after me and getting right in, but I soon learned the secret.  Be sure to call ahead!!  You can call up to an hour before you plan to arrive to put your name on the list.  JT cut my hair and he did a great job!  He listened to my requests and gave me just the cut that I wanted.  The only complaint I have about my first visit is that the lady who checked me in did not offer me a beer.  She did, however, ask every guy who walked in after me if he wanted a beer.  So, hey lady - girls like beer too!

During my second visit I was offered beer (different lady than the first visit) - yay!  But, then I didn't even want a beer... go figure.  Taryn cut my hair this time and she also did a great job.  I told her what I wanted and she asked me several good questions about the specifics of the cut.  I pretty much told her to do what she thought was best... I mean she's the professional after all.  She did great!

I will be back and I will request JT or Taryn... I think you can request who you want, but you might have to wait longer.  I think it's worth it because the anxiety of not knowing who is going to cut your hair is kind of awful.

Oh, by the way - did I mention the price is right?  It is.  I'm willing to tip a lot more for a good cut when the bill isn't huge.  Yay birds.

They don't have much consistency from stylist to stylist.

One day I walked in and got a pretty good haircut. I was satisfied with my simple cut (even though he missed some of the hairs on my neck, most places do).

The next time I went I was not so satisfied. I'm fairly sure the stylist used two different guard lengths on my head. I didn't notice it until i finally got home and stood in front of the mirror, by then they were closed and I felt like I was SOL, I had to leave town the next day. Plus, when I got i the car I was covered in hair. I understand I jut got my hair cut, but he only casually used that little brush and a blow dryer, maybe a couple more seconds would have helped.

If you find a stylist you like stick with 'em, otherwise be prepared for the good or the bad.

I've been going to Birds since it opened, and to both locations since the expansion. Here is my routine:

Stylist (most of the time female): So what do you want to do today?
Me: Shorter. Less shaggy. About to here in the back and about to here in the front. And please know that I will normally spend no more than 5 minutes per day on my hair. I do not own a blow dryer.
Stylist: OK, so keep the length here? Right. What about this flippy thing on the side?
Me: Keep it. It flips out on this side but not on the other; there's nothing we can do. Just lighten it up so it doesn't warp into a rip curl. Oh, and texturize the crap out of everything.
Stylist: A'ight. Shampoo now?
Me (as often as not): Yes, please.

This has given me a great cut 99% of the time. The key is to be specific. If you're feeling inarticulate and you have no favorite stylist, don't go just then. Wait until you know what you want. Pictures help, as long as you can relate what in the picture you want and what you don't want.

Also, calling ahead is always a safe move. Technically, their policy is not to accept any call-aheads more than an hour in advance, but sometimes they'll ignore that. Just ask if they're busy when you call and get your name on the list.

Here's their best feature: http://www.birdsbarber...
Almost like stalking your favorite stylist. I have a few faves, but usually just go when I have the time.

**Note to girls with short hair who do not normally color it**

You have three different price options: the Short Cut ($19), the Rock Star ($25), and the Lady Bird ($39).

Confused about the Short Cut? The receptionist will tell you it's for boys. Not true. That is up to the stylist. Cool stylists will slide you by on a less expensive cut in hopes for a bigger tip, but this is only a good deal if "less expensive" does not mean "cheaper" to the stylist. After a little trial and error with different stylists, I've found that Jen at Burnet will give you a good cut and call it a Short Cut. I can't remember who else, but I'll repost with updates.

The Rock Star is probably the best deal. You don't get as pampered as with the Lady Bird, but it gets you a good cut for a good price. Some product and styling comes with it.

The Lady Bird is the salon shampoo/cut/style treatment, and still a good deal for $39. If you're in a hurry, do not opt for this. Although, if you're in a hurry, you should probably come back another time. Hair cuts should not be rushed.

12/18 - Two stars for the bad haircut on the first visit.

12/30 - Increased to three stars when they contacted me to apologize and offered to reimburse me for the haircut and send me a gift certificate  for my second visit. I responded that I'd be happy with just the gift certificate for my next haircut.

1/15 - Reduced to 1 star because they never sent the gift certificate. They messaged me to say they'd been having trouble with their Yelp business account and that the gift certificate would go "in the mail first thing in the morning."

1/30 - Still waiting for the gift certificate. Poor customer service.

4/11 - Increasing to three stars again because I did get the gift certificate in early February and the manager messaged me earlier this month to make sure they hadn't dropped the ball. Still, hesitant to go back and give them another chance.

My husband and I both walked in lookin a mess.
Cody fixed us up right and now we both look gorgeous.  I asked for some creativity and it was as if he read my mind.  I have a super-cool short cut.  My hair looks amazing.  If you get Cody to cut your hair you are damn lucky!  Free beer, blah blah video game, magazines whatever... My husband and I will totally be back to see Cody the awesome.  Bonus, its totally cheap!

needing a hair pick-me-up i dropped by Bird's today for the first time. i got a 5 star haircut from Jennifer, a friendly and cute stylist that is also a mind-reader. she was genuinely excited to do my hair and treated me right.

i recommend the shampoo service, it felt great and the citrus-mint shampoo smelled so yummy!

it was cool to see several kids and older people while i was there--everybody gets to "walk in and rock out!"

I've been searching for a good barber shop in Austin with people that
know what they are doing for a change.  I like the retro 80's decor and especially the turntables.  It's been a week and a half and I still enjoy my haircut.  Thanks to my barber, J.T.

Despite the hipster appeal and the droopy tatooed dipshit running the counter- i had a decent cut. Lori is great, knows what shes doing, and does it well.
But back to the dipshit, since ratings are based on the whole experience- would it KILL you to have SOME Sense of welcoming respect to patrons to your establishment? Or is being a droopy  tattoooed dipshit keep you from saying "hello"?

Another 5 star review for Birds.... How lame is that?

I was in a bad mood today, so I really wanted to hate this place so that I could say "Ha! Those Yelp people are crazy". Well.... I liked it. A lot.

My stylist, barber, cutter Kelly was awesome. I explained what I wanted like this....

"I don't want to look like a 70s Anchorman anymore, and I'm sick of my hair looking like a mullet when it gets long. I'm ready to just shave it all off"

Kelly assured me that "shaving it off" wasn't the route we should take and she just started cutting. When she was done it looked great.

The prices are a little expensive for a "walk in" type place, but it's well worth it to know you are getting a good haircut.

I will definitely be coming back here!

I've been to a few hair places in Austin. This Korean place by that Austin Karaoke is nice, but they don't speak English... making communication so incredibly hard. Anyways, Bird's is top-notch.

The people were super nice and the place looks rather hip compared to what I thought it'd look, at least from the outside. There's this table top-styled arcade game that has myriad games that kept kicking my ass. It made me realize that simple games are much harder than games with "awesome" graphics. Also, for the non-gamers, they have lots of magazines for you to read while you wait.

I had Sarah get mah herr did. It was cool. She was nice. She offered me beer. I am rather special, but I bet she offers the beer to everyone.... Anyways, she was cool and chatted me up a bit and cut my hair like I wanted. I was slightly picky cuz my last haircut at a different location was very unsatisfactory, and Sarah was like "no problem." And it was good.

Also, I was wearing my Yelp shirt, which she noticed after the haircut. Turns out she's the same person who cut Kevin's hair! Crazy. Now Kevin and I... and probably a lot of others... share a special bond.
