The Birds at this location is pretty rad. My only gripe is that I'm never offered beer when I go in there and I thought you get a free beer because that was kind of their thing? Anyway, probably a stupid expectation but it just feels weird to ask for it. Or maybe this location doesn't offer it at certain times of the day or because it's in such a residential location. I don't really know.

Anyway, I usually get my hair cut my Jenna H. who is really awesome at cutting hair. The first time she cut my hair I was looking to do something super different and I was kind of nervous about it but Jenna was super excited about it and so I was too. It came out AWESOME. I was really stoked about it. She definitely knows what she's doing.

Living in a young hip city like Austin my whole life, I have been spoiled by amazing hair care readily available, but often at a steep price point, so when a friend recommended Bird's to me years ago I jumped right in and haven't strayed since.  How can you not love a haircut and style for about $40?!  But what I'm really reviewing is Amanda at Bird's Burnet, I got my hair cut with her on Tuesday and I absolutely LOVE it! I have recommended her to 4 friends and I can't stop running my hands through my healthy and soft hair.  I brought in a photo that she matched near PERFECTLY, while still tweaking the cut to work for my face shape (as opposed to the very angular model's face). Finally, I have to compliment her on her shampoo skills... I know that's so basic, but at a lot of other places they don't put effort into my favorite part of getting a haircut!  The little things like taking her time on shampooing my hair and massaging my scalp, as well as her excellent conversation is the reason I will keep bragging about Amanda and go back to her again and again.

Ladies with long hair, check this stylist out! She rocked my blunt cut with blended bangs!

After a recent bad experience, I was torn on where to go for a haircut. Traumatized might be a better word for it. The prospect of finding a new stylist (or barber, or whatever you go to) can be as challenging as finding a new tattooist - or a new surgeon. The ones with skillz are the ones you seek out - and are more rare than you might think.

So it came to a point that my hair was starting to grow into an unruly mess, having semi-recovered from the hack job I received with my last haircut. When I go without a haircut I do not look like the messy-haired Romance novel cover model. I look like a homeless man about to shake you down for a sandwich.

So with gentle urgings from the lady, I called into Bird's (the closest to us in terms of trust) and set out on a Saturday afternoon.

I'll save the overly flowery words going forward. The stylist I ended up with - by pure chance - turned out to be frickin' awesome.

Jenna was her handle, and slinging shears was her game. She asked me what I wanted, listened to my requests and began. The cut she performed was like watching Edward Scissorhands trim a shrubbery - slightly frightening, but awesome.

When she was done she not only restore my faith in stylists as a whole, but also managed to give me the *exact* cut I asked for.

I will definitely return. I can honestly say it was the best experience I've had in a long while. And besides, a lady who knows handle sharp instruments is the last person you want to tick off.

I've been to Bird's twice within the past month or so, and both times have had my haircut by Stephanie, who does a nice job and is very pleasant and enjoyable to work with. I was surprised by the beer service, and also that they are now selling vinyl(?) Anyhow, I had my doubts about this place beforehand since it is rare for me to spend less than $30 bucks on a haircut. Thanks, Stephanie for doing such a great job.

    Birds is awesome.

Often I feel I'm not cool enough to be in there, but maybe that's what keeps me coming back. The stylists are hip and trendy and you know you will never leave with some boring blah hairstyle. Also, since they cut hair for a broad spectrum of clients its likely they can give you the cut you are going for. And their prices are decent to boot.

Of course things can be hit or miss if you get a different person every time you go, but I don't have a "usual" person there and I'm never dissatisfied with the cut I leave with. My one tip is to call ahead if you are going during a peak time! Or do like me and go on a nearly-dead Tuesday morning.

(P.S. Today I had Kim, she did a great job!)

I love Birds Barbershop. I've never received a bad haircut there, and everyone that has cut my hair has been extremely nice and willing to chat. I'd recommend them to anyone.

Also, the hair products they sell (which they don't push on you) are FANTASTIC and reasonably priced.

I love birds! Every time I go I take the chance with a different hair stylist, and I have never had a bad hair cut here. The service is quick and affordable, and everyone is (usually) very friendly.
The only reason I give it four stars instead of five is because of my last visit. I can't remember my stylist's name because he never introduced himself. I really felt like I was wasting his time, and it was probably the most uncomfortable hair cut I have ever gotten. Looking around like there were other things he rather be doing. He didn't speak a word to me the entire time, except for a scolding about how my hair has some split ends. At the end, when I was being rung up, he seemed pissed because bobs don't cost more money. In the end he did give me a pretty good hair cut. Hurumph. Oh well, better luck next time! I still love you birds!

I lovelovelove Bird's. I'm pretty choosy about my stylist. I don't want to pick the haircut, I want the stylist to do it. They're the professional, not me! Also, they know what they can do and what they can't, so why ask for something a stylist can't accomplish? This boggles some stylist's minds, but not at Birds.

Kara has been doing my hair for about 9 months and she is fabulous. I have had multiple people ask me where I get my hair done, and then have them report back to me that Kara is just as fabulous as I said. Everyone who has done my hair at Birds has always been good, I just prefer her.

I know I am going to get a solid cut, a great shampoo, fast service, and it will all be at a great price when I go there. I do wish they just made appointments because there is a lot of pre-planning to look at the stylists' schedules, figure out when you should call to get on the list for the time you want, remember to call, and hope all your timing was perfect, but I understand why they don't take appointments.

I can't imagine even trying another place.

The Kid (who is really now a Boy/Man at 20 years old) and I were out running a few errands. For him, of course, or trust me, he would have been somewhere else.  His hair had grown long and shaggy and I proposed a new cut at Birds, a "cool, hip place for his age group".  He surprisingly agreed.

Boy/Man: They said we have two people in front of me.
Me:  Okay.  Hey, I like this music.
    Boy/Man:  No you don't.  I don't like it.
Me:  I really do.  Who is this?
Boy/Man:  I have no idea.  And quit bouncing up and down.
Me:  I'm just moving my foot to the beat.
    Boy/Man:  Stop.  It's embarrassing.

So, that is how some of our conversations go.  I do embarrassing things and like strange music.  The experience at Birds was good.  Boy/Man and I had several interesting conversations and the two people in front of us turned into five.  I'm not sure how they decide who is next but I believe there were several of the five people who had appointments and we had only called ahead.

Carla, wearing boots and shorts, did a wonderful job with Boy/Man's hair.  It is shorter than I have seen it in years and nicely styled.  Carla was extremely patient and asked him if he liked it several times during the process.  He loved it and now wants to go back to ask her what type hair gel he should use.  I see the beginning of a nice new relationship in his life.

I've had great experiences here before, but the last two times I've been dissatisfied. Rather than get a new hair-do, I just wanted a clean-up: trim then bangs and face-framing hair, and clip the dead ends. I asked for a trim both times and wound up paying $40. The first time I suppose it was my bad for not declining the shampoo and blowout, but the second time, I remembered. However, my stylist insisted on at least conditioning my hair before the trim. I didn't get any styling or blowdry afterwards and was still charged $30. Seems way too steep for a simple trim. It's a shame because I love the cool atmosphere and staff here, but I don't think I'll be going back.. unless they add a cheaper haircut option for women.

If you asked me three weeks ago about I feel about Bird's on Burnet, I would have said, "Yay! I'm a fan!", but today I feel exactly the opposite.

My first visit, Nichy (who is no longer on their current schedule) cut my hair. It was probably one of the worst hair cuts I've ever received. I went from long hair to short hair so I thought maybe it was my reaction to that, but after a close friend and my husband both said it look bad, I decided to go back and ask for someone to fix it. I explained the situation and was told, "Yeah, we've had similar complaints about her". They nicely agreed to have someone re-cut my hair.

Kim cut my hair, it looked great and they didn't charge me again. I left her a nice tip, and everything was A-Ok again.

The next trim (short hair take so much maintenance!), Kim was busy so they recommended Camille. This hair cut was even better. Yay! I was so happy to find someone I really liked.

Jump forward to today. I called yesterday, but Camillle was busy doing color (which they accept appointments) all day and was told to try today. I called and she could see me around 6:00p. "Hmmm?", I thought, "They don't usually let people make appointments, but that timing works". Woo hoo, I'm set!

I arrived at Bird's at 6p ready for my haircut, but the receptionist tells me Camille just said her current appointment is running late so she won't have time to cut my hair AT ALL today, ("We couldn't call you because we didn't have your phone number" Maybe you should have asked for it?), but can I come back tomorrow? I thought it over for a few seconds and decided no, I'll go someplace else. I'm done.

Warning: This review is semi-useless because I forgot my stylist's name. But I'm going to proceed anyway, so read ahead at your own risk :-)

I came in for a haircut today, and my stylist was awesome - she actually listened to me and gave me a wonderful cut! I have fine, naturally wavy hair, and I like to wear it natural (read: no blowdrying, no straightening, no products...natural). You'd be surprised how many times I've said "low-maintenance" to a stylist and ended up with twenty products in my hair.

The only negative thing about my experience: after my stylist cut my hair (and a chorus of angels sang) she asked if she could put some product in it & diffuse it, just to see what it would look like. I was so pleased with my beautiful haircut that I agreed...which was a mistake! Whatever she put in my hair made it crispy and straw-like, and the diffuser made it poof up to high-heaven! I left Birds looking like a brunette Dolly Parton and had to wear my hair in a bun for the rest of the day.

That said, now that I have come home and washed it, my lovely haircut is once more pleasing to my eyes :-) Moral of the story - if you're a low-maintenance gal like me, politely decline when they offer to style your hair after cutting it!

    OMG.

    Let me start this again.

    Oh my flippin GOD!

I went to Birds on Burnet yesterday because my cute pixie 'do had grown out something fierce and I needed to get back to where I once belonged.

Normally, I go to Jackson Ruiz...but I'm so broke right now and they're so pricey, so I decided to go back to Birds. I used to go to Birds when my lovely stylist Michelle worked there...but once she moved away (*tear*) I left.

Now, being broke and having had a great experience with Michelle at Birds...I figured I would go back and get cut there once again with the hope I would meet someone half a rockin' as her.

I got Candice. She's lovely...funny...a nice person. We had a great time chatting...however, my cut took FOREVER...I swear it felt like I was there for an hour and a half. I was hella late getting back to work.  She told me that she loves to do pixie cuts...so I thought I had scored.  Cut to the finish...I look like GI Jane.

I told her that the thing I like about a pixie cut is the sleek look of it and not the fuzzy monchichi look when it's all fuzzy. That was my main thing.

I do not know how one gives a buzz cut with a pair of scissors...but Candice is apparently the master of it. I mean, you can see scalp, people. And that is not a good look on a chick unless you're going for that look and then you probably have the head and style to rock it.

    I don't.

I got the exact opposite of what I asked for and then she asked me if I liked it and I told her yes because I was trying to hold it together and get out of there as fast as I can.

So, now I'm left with a few choices. Let it grow out or keep it this short and join the military. Fortunately, and unfortunately, I'm going on vacation in 2 weeks...so hopefully that will give my hair time to grow out a little and maybe fill in.  It could be worse, I could be leaving for vacation today.

Lesson learned. Back to Jackson Ruiz with me once it grows out and I look less monchichi-like.

    OMG...the horror....the horror....

Edit: The owner of Birds contacted me and refunded my money. I really appreciated that and though my hair still looks jacked several weeks later, it's growing out and I'm less bitter about having bad hair and being out the money.

This is not a barber shop, but it's a great place. I've been in Austin for four months. I've had 3 bad haircuts; the stylist here did a great job. I finally found a place.

Get a free Lonestar and a great haircut, but make sure you call ahead!!!

If it weren't for the excessive wait times, I'd give them 5 stars.

I have a pretty low maintenance hair cut, so I can walk in to alomost any barbershop in town and walk away with almost the exact same haircut.  What made me enjoy my experience here more than the normal shop was that the moment I walked in, I was greeted and promptly offered the choice of a Shiner Bock or Shiner Blonde to drink while I waited my turn.  I of course stuck with the original bock and relaxed until my name was called.  The cut itself was just what I wanted and the price was more than reasonable.  I will definitely be back.

    In a word: meeeeeeeeeeeeh.

Well, not so much meeeeh, maybe a bit of a meehhhrr as I am not completely indifferent, but in fact a little peeved.

As I continue on my seemingly endless quest for a stylist, I decided to try out Bird's as the reviews were relatively good and the price seemed right. While I realize that this is supposed to be a barbershop and all, I didn't like that I couldn't make an appointment, and when I walked in I was the only girl. If I hadn't called before I would have walked out just from sheer awkwardness.

I was offered water instead of a Lone Star, which was disappointing to say the least. I know I have a baby face and all but still...isn't that half the draw of this place? I declined and was taken to a chair by a semi-bored looking girl who suggested we just cut my hair dry.

Uh...no? While I appreciate the offer and it's cheaper than the 'Ladybird'...any experience I've had with dry cutting has been very, very bad. So we went to the one lonely shampooing station and I bent my head back uncomfortably while she silently washed my hair. One of my many pet peeves: a stylist that does not talk. While I'm no chatterbox, utter silence while getting my haircut while everyone next to me is gabbing away makes me want to squirm.

I feel like she tried to listen to me about what I wanted, but maybe we were just speaking two different languages. I said I wanted the hair at the bottom kind of thin, but instead she thinned out ALL of my hair. My hair is thin to begin with, so now it is...wispy? What's thinner than thin? It's not good, that's for sure.

As for the bangs, I wanted side-swept, which I feel like is a simple request but lately no stylists have been able to do it. I asked her to adjust it a few times, but at that point they were already WAY shorter than I wanted to I just told her to stop.

I waited to write this review for a few weeks hoping my hair would grow out and I'd maybe learn to love it, but it is exactly the opposite. I am starting to hate it. My cowlicks are running wild and my wispy hair just looks...bad. Half the time I have to keep part of it clipped or pulled back. It just looks ridiculous down.

Le sigh. So that's going to be a no for Bird's from me. The hunt continues...

I've been cheating on my stylist of four years with Jen D. and have a ridiculous girl crush on her. She has an incredible energy, sense of humor, and knows what my hair needs.  Hair is her art!

This past Tuesday she colored and cut my hair, listened to me blab blab blab for two hours, brought me a Lone Star, and offered me strawberries from her lunch.

While I was there a two year old came in with a sour puss face which the stylist two seats down from me turned into a smile. I thought we were going to have a screaming meany on our hands but he left Birds dancing to James Brown. If you have a tolerant child, forget what the past reviewer posted.

Five stars for Jen D. !!!

Let me just start by saying I hate having my hair cut. HATE IT. Because I hate my hair, mostly, and I know (or thought I knew) that it could never ever ever look good no matter what anyone did to it.  I normally put off having it done for months longer than I should because I can never find a place that I like.

Well. The Bird's on Burnet has completely changed my mind.  I will no longer dread getting my hair cut.

I admit, I felt a little out of place at first because I don't have tattoos or a mohawk, and I wasn't wearing my Chucks, but all illusions of judgement soon evaporated.  Everyone was very friendly! The salon was fun to look at, with black walls and neon shapes everywhere. The music was not painful to listen to, unlike at most hair places I've been to.  There was an entire wall of magazines to read, and arcade game table, and both water and beer available while I waited.

As soon as my name was called, I was greeted by the sweetest hairdresser ever, Lisa. She asked what I wanted to do with my hair, and feeling that I could trust her to have a conversation with me about it instead of me simply giving her orders, I proceeded to tell her that I absolutely hate my thick hair and the fact that it never will hold anything--it always scrunches up into its natural frizzy waves.  We decided that it would be best to thin it out, and leave most of the length.

The cut itself took a little while, probably close to an hour, but I barely noticed. Lisa chatted with me the whole time, in the friendliest manner I've ever encountered in a hairdresser. I literally felt as though I'd made a friend.  I will continue to go back and see Lisa as often as necessary.

And my hair? I love it! It's light and cute, and it took half the time it usually does to blow-dry this morning.  It's the first truly satisfactory haircut I've had in years.

Birds Barbershop is like that really cool, quirky aunt who the rest of your family says is off her rocker, but you? You like her.

This aunt always knows best (even if she does substitute perfume with rosemary sprigs & has a pig as a pet).  I went in knowing I wanted a cut my hair probably couldn't accomplish due to texture. After I communicated my concerns, my stylist Clara -- a sweet, talented stylist who knows how to listen -- told me what it would take to get what I wanted, & then she did it. She paused a few times along the way to get my opinion on the progress, so the final result was precisely what I wanted it to be.

This aunt dresses weird, but you aspire to match her fashion sense.  Birds sports style in spades, & that's rare for a hair establishment.  It's a joy just to hang out in the waiting area, playing arcade games & sipping a Lone Star, before you even get the stellar cut.

This aunt is patient, nodding & smiling even when your own mother would have walked away.  I went in at 7 & because my stylist took her time to get it right, I left at 8pm with 6 fewer inches of hair & a smile on my face.

This aunt cares about her family.  From looking at other reviews, I know they care about their customers, bringing them back in when bad cuts happen. I'm convinced if I put up a 1-star review, I'd get a message today.

And that counts more than I can say.

I hadn't had my hair cut since 2008 so this was a huge event for me.  I asked for Abbey based on one decent Yelp review and went straight there without a second to think it over.  Last year I walked in to and right back out of the same Birds with a stomach full of nervous long-haired butterflies.  I quickly accepted the free Lonestar, though I didn't get to guzzle down more than half before I was called to the chair. Abbey made me feel completely comfortable within a few seconds.  She didn't take an extremely long time but still took enough time to make sure it was perfect.  The fact that her own hair and personal style looked like she belonged in the movies made me more confident of her skills.

I am now finishing this review after a few weeks of having my hair cut and it definitely stood the test of time.  Still looks great and I will be returning to Abbey within the next couple weeks.

You gotta respect a place calling itself a barbershop that was entirely full of only female hairstylists when I walked in there today, and while I was getting my hairs done perfect by Abby, she rotated the chair around about 3/4 of the way towards their mural of the guy with the hair picks falling out of Space Invaders when MC5 came on the stereo and shouted, at no remotely subdued volume, "KICK OUT THE JAMS, MOTHERFUCKER" as a 4 year old kid wandered by, presumably to ask her mom why the jams needed motherfucking kicking out.

    Well I respect it.

I really liked Bird's at first, good haircuts, not too expensive. But then they started the 30 minute call ahead rule (maybe they always had it, not sure) and now it's almost impossible to get in without a ridiculous wait, even if you call in. One day, and this is early afternoon, they were actually booked the entire day, supposedly. I know it's a popular place, so maybe that's the deal there, but if you call in a half hour early, and still might have to wait an hour or 45 minutes, that kind of blows the whole deal.

No problems with the cuts themselves, the stylists are usually good and friendly, and it's nice to get a beer when you are waiting. It just seems like there are problems with booking and waits, as if maybe some folks are getting to cut in line, I don't know.

Like the cat fights that linger, so are the Days of Birds' Lives.

After coming here for a couple of years now, I realize this place needs to have their own reality show.  You've got employee cat fights galore in here and the customers get pulled into the games.

For example, a certain receptionist likes to claim week after week the unavailability of my one and only stylist.  She likes to claim they are too busy week after week to do 4 foils of color.  Yet when I see my stylist she is totally available and quite upset I am being jerked around.

So clique girls, and you know who you are, grow up and get over yourselves.  Realize you are in a place of business and customers don't want to be caught up in your day care drama.

BTW, if you are as silly as me and are confused about making an appointment verses not making an appointment - here's the deal, they will only take an appointment for color.  If you want a hair cut only, they will put you on the list for that day but will not allow you to make an appointment for a future day.

I have found my new salon!  I walked in at 11:15 on a Friday and had zero wait.  Had Kim as my stylist and she was great.  She didn't talk a whole lot after me telling her what I wanted (angled bob) and she just went ahead and did it.  It looks great and I got a bunch of compliments on my hair.  This was my first time at and Birds and I know I'll be back for some color and a cut.

Totally love Birds!  The price is right, for men at least, and they've got a good groove going on.

Today was the best experience I've ever had there.  I just had a very, very fast and very, very good cut by Amanda.

My hair was way too long and she saw immediately how to get it back to its normal state.  And got it cut very, very fast.

Did I mention it was fast?

I can't remember ever having a good cut done this quickly...

Also... according to the efficient folks at the front desk, you can now check when your favorite stylist (which, of course, should be Amanda) is working so you can make sure and go on the days when Amanda is available.

Call in before you go and ask for Amanda!

    Respect.

Maybe I am just happy with a simple cut (I always take in a photo of what I want), but I have never had a bad one here (and by "here," I mean the Burnet location).

I have never waited more than 2 minutes without calling ahead to get a cut.

I have never sat with an awkward or rude hairdresser.

I have never left feeling anything less than satisfied.

Oh, and the decor looks pretty cool.

    It's not just hype. It's a good hair-cutting experience.

I laughed as my stylist asked how much I paid for color last time I went to a different salon. "Oh it was soooo expensive," I said, remembering the stinging $150 including cut and tip I shelled out in Georgetown "but it was great color!" My stylist laughed too, "Oh it would never be that much here!" She exclaimed, and we went coloring merrily away.

You see it coming, don't you.

$140 for the color alone, $40 for the cut and proper tip brought me outta there $200+ shy in my wallet. Owie.

Worst part is the color and cut are fantastic and I am going back.

So normally when I get a haircut, I don't like it. This is because I'm not very good at knowing what exactly I want or expressing it. And I'm terrible at telling people that I don't like the haircut they've just given me.

This was definitely not the problem here. All I told the stylist, Jenna, was that I wanted to freshen up my haircut, just a little trim etc. And I love my haircut. Is it amazing and fantastic? Maybe not but it looks good and is exactly what I wanted. Jenna was very sweet and fun to talk to as well.

I had a great time at Birds. I didn't get a Lonestar... but I didn't have to wait so I guess that's still pretty good.

    Birds did us right!

My son got an extremely jacked up hair cut (I hate you Guy Trendz) that was supposed to be a trim and ended up a Dorothy Hamill '70's bowl cut. Not cute. He's also a working actor, and there was NO way I could put him on camera looking like that.

We took a chance, never having been to Birds, but deciding on them based on reviews and reputation - and luckily we got Amanda! She was amazing! Of course she couldn't glue on what was taken off.... But she got it back into shape so it will grow out appropriately and he won't be walking around looking ridiculous.

We will definitely go back to Amanda for the next cut - I could tell she "got it" and I was seriously thankful!!

SORTA LIKE LA INK AS A BARBERSHOP IN AUSTIN

This cool hair styling salon (don't let the "barbershop" name fool you) is right on target with those "Keep Austin Weird" bumper sticker and t-shirts.  Better than decent hair styling in a strange but pleasant interior.  My wife and I enjoyed it as did our 9 year old daughter and 6 year old twin daughters.  The stylists were very good with the kids.  You can call ahead to tell them that you are on your way and they will block a time for you so you don't have to wait.  Several locations in Austin.

Kim was my stylist, and simply put, she did a great job.  I can't believe it's possible for my hair to look this good.

My hair was at waist-level, and after getting zipped up in jackets and pinned underneath my shoulders while sleeping one too many times, I knew it was time to part with it.  I was nervous about taking off so many inches, and Kim was very understanding of that.  I brought in a picture of the length I wanted my hair to be at, and she gave a me a great cut that was right at that length.  She made it look so much better than I was anticipating, because she was put layers in it, and took the time to blow dry and style it.  She did a very thorough job, and I'm happy with the results.  Also, what's awesome is that the bill only came up to $32...I guess I got a discount because I was both donating and because I showed my student ID.

I've never really been loyal to a stylist before, but I plan on returning to Kim for all future haircuts.

Um, for serious, this was the best hair experience I have ever had. Carla was AWESOME. She took time and asked plenty of questions until she knew exactly what I wanted. She even had someone go pick up hair color for me, so that it would be exactly the color I wanted. And, not only is she great at clipping and coloring, she's super nice too.

I have had so many compliments and I do not intend to go to anyone else as long as I am in Austin and she's still doin' her thang.

go. see her. tip her big.

My fiancé comes here to see Abby. She's awesome. I just got my very very long very curly hair all chopped off yesterday. Now if you have curly hair you understand what a short haircut and the wrong stylist can mean--yep, the awful mushroom top. Well, fear not fellow poodles because Angela will totally know what to do. She has curly hair, too! She listened to me and was right on the same page as me. Needless to say, my experience was fabulous. It looked great that day and even better today.  Kudos to Angela.

Jennifer is a goddess.  She fixed a horrid haircut that I had received, was super-friendly, listened to what I was looking for, and delivered.  The rest of the staff were also friendly, and you can't beat call-ahead and a free beer.

To me, getting my haircut is like going on a date. I'm paying for the conversation and the haircut is thrown in for free.

So, after growing my hair out for two years, I decided to hit up Bird's to donate some of it and leave the rest in a mohawk.

By luck of me signing in at the right moment, Shannon was the lucky girl who got to cut my hair. And I'm pretty sure cutting my hair was probably the most fun she had had all week.

"Rock Lobster," came over the airwaves and she said that she was having a surreal moment. Apparently, I look like a guy she used to date, to which, I congratulated her on her good tastes. Said guy, had hair just like mine and his favorite song was "Rock Lobster."

This being our first date, I didn't delve deeper into her psyche to retrieve the full meaning of this statement. It could mean one of several things: A. I have a visage which she is attracted to and reminds her of someone who was good in her life; therefore the door is open for me to pursue. B. I have a visage which she is attracted to and reminds her of some jerk; therefore the door is closed. C. She just made it all up to make my head spin. D. I really don't look like anyone she has ever known, but she's is hinting that there is attraction. E. She wants a big tip. F. I'm an idiot.

Shannon then offered me a beer which I accepted. Methinks she wants to loosen me up a bit so she can take advantage of me.

So we get the hair cut and start trying to put it into a mohawk. We have to grab an extra stylist to help with spraying and drying. Shannon then says "You can come back anytime if you can't get it up." Which was obviously a Freudian slip.

This was without a doubt the most fun date/haircut experience I've ever had.

So, later that night after I had been at the Side Bar for about an hour who do you think walks in the door? Apparently, her friends tipped her off that I was there. What's a guy to do? Is she interested or not? Let me know by giving me Useful, Funny and Cool votes and compliments with advice.

I just got another totally awesome haircut today.  I have been there maybe 3 or 4 times over the last couple of years (always at Burnet), and I have never been disappointed with my hair.  It's odd, because I have never had the same stylist twice.  You would think that the laws of averages would make that impossible, but I have had nothing but great experiences here.
I know that some reviewers end up waiting a looooong time, but I have never waited more than 15 minutes after walking in.  Of course, I do go on Sunday morning at the crack of 10:15.  Maybe everyone else is asleep.  If so, then I'm jealous.

So, as it turns out...cutting my own bangs was NOT such a bright idea. It was passable, albeit laughable, as I rocked the "sweet 6th grade, take life by the scissors" approach to hairstyling.

I did TRY to get real bangs a few weeks ago, but my stylist said "no, that'll look like you are trying too hard." Ahem, trying too hard to what? Have bangs? Yes. That's what I want to look like!

Anyway, I ended up with long sideswept bangs, not what I really wanted, so I got annoyed and cut them myself. Long story short. Sort of.

Then I went to Austin, and wanted to get a faux-hawk at Bird's (because I was jealous of Tiffany C's) and for the first time in my life, they told me that my hair was TOO long for something! Wahooooooo!

So Nicky spruced up my bangs, and gave me some "Amy Winehouse" poof to satisfy my inner rockstar tendencies. She was sweet, quick, efficient...and gave me a tour around the super cool shop. Video games? Ping pong decor? This place ROCKS.

Seriously, this place is where its at. I might just have to go every time I'm in ATX.
