Ok, this review is based on one Lychee Oolong Iced Tea.
DAMN this is the best lychee oolong iced tea I've ever had, and they put a fresh lychee in the tea too. I will for sure come back here. -

I loved the atmosphere of Bird Pick. When you walk in, you are hit with the aroma of the teas as well as the very zen mood. A large variety of loose teas were on display, each jar tagged with a description of each tea and its benefits.
The service was great. The server at the bar asked if we had been there before, and it being our first time proceeded to explain our options and give us some suggestions. While we waited for the tea to be prepared (any tea drinker knows that you can't get it instantly), we browsed around. Another employee greeted us and asked if we needed help. Our tea was brought to us, and twice their employees checked to see if we liked our drinks and chatted with us. Other reviews complained about the wait time, but I think that the pace of this place is relaxed. Go here to unwind and escape.
The only non-zen experience was the very loud lady sitting at the tea bar. Sure, she may have been flirting with another at the counter, but I wonder if she realized where she was. We were not at a dance club. -
Review from Doris K.
The lychee oolong was by far my favorite and not overly sweet.
Parking is a pain on the street.
Really cute, quiet place to hang out until a huge tour group bombarded the bar area. -
Review from Ed H.
Came here for an ice tea drink with lychee in it. The tea flavor was on the light side with a slight hint of the lychee. Very refreshing on a HOT winter day. Yay LA!
Didn't shop the tea, but they have a great selection of tea. Definitely will be back for a refreshing drink -

Man, I completely forgot to review this place.
The thing about Bird Pick is that it's a cool idea. It's not even a bad execution. They have teas. I like tea. Already we're a pretty good match. They also have tea lattes. I sometimes like tea lattes. I don't know if we'd be matched on all 29 dimensions of compatibility but so far it'd be worth signing up for a free weekend of guided teammunication.
But to really enjoy this place, you have to actually be allowed to drink the tea there. The first time I walked in I went straight to the tea bar. There was a guy behind the counter. He was doing nothing. I looked at him, he looked at me, we had a moment, and then nothing else happened. He looked at me a few more times. I'm not a piece of meat, okay.
Really though - I don't know what you're doing behind there, but you should probably help me with my order since, you know, I'm waiting to make my order. It's not that hard. If you're not able to do so, you can say something using words too.
About 10 minutes later, this young lady came out of the bathroom and asked me what I'd like. I asked her what the difference was between a few of the drinks, and it was at that point I could tell she was either completely stoned or had one hell of a mind blowing bathroom experience, because she didn't seem to understand one word I was saying or know her own beverages. She couldn't make a recommendation to me, and when I finally picked something she spent another 15 minutes making it and dropped her materials a couple of times.
The drink tasted pretty good though and I was in no hurry, so somehow I remember leaving this place satisfied. I don't usually care about service.
Couple weeks later I come back to treat my friend to one of the tea lattes. She and I walk inside. It's 8:40, and the place closes at 9. We walk up to the tea counter. No one helps us, and most of them are talking to themselves behind the check out counter for those buying loose leaf tea. There were no customers. About 5 minutes later someone comes by and says: "Sorry, we stop serving at 8:45."
I don't want to over-complicate things, but "Open" does not mean that you let people in and don't help them. You're not open until 9 if you stop serving customers at 8:45. That means you're "Closed." It's a pretty complex concept but I think it's something that you can figure out if you really set your mind to it. -

I like this tea shop, I really do, but based on my last experience I can't be a fan just yet. This particular Bird Pick Tea & Herb is the closest location to me, but the service was just way too slow.
We stopped by on a Monday evening and it wasn't busy, but the employee helping in the loose leaf tea area assisted us briefly and then continued to ignore us when some usual customers came in. We spent about an hour in the shop just waiting for one sample (between multiple samples Michael gave to the returning patrons). By the time we had decided which tea to purchase, Michael was still chatting up a storm with the patrons (who ended up NOT purchasing anything).
I ended up getting the Alishan Oolong ($30 for 4oz) in the glass jars ($3 for the small containers). They have nice gift wrapping and bags, perfect for gifts, BUT I really had to trouble the Michael just to get the additional box and bag.
They have a customer reward card, make sure to sign up if you will be a frequent customer. Your cell phone number is required when you sign up, and they send you an automatic text once it's completed.
In the past I have come with a group to try their tea selection and to learn about how to serve tea (temperature, time to steep, etc). I hope that we'll get better service the next time we stop by.
On any other trip, this would be a 4 star place... this time it was a 2 star.... averages to 3 stars overall. -

I think it was Audrey Hepburn that said, "When you have nobody you can make a cup of tea for, when nobody needs you, that's when I think life is over..."
I feel the same. I love tea. Or maybe it was the company--that moment where that dangerous "other" and me ate our macarons from 'lette with a cup of tea.
We sat there, I closed my eyes, and sipped my tea.
I am in love with this place. That dangerous "other" buys her tea over here. She finally took me a couple days ago, and my gawwwdd-- I will now drive from Long Beach to Pasadena to get my tea fix.
Their blossoming tea is awesome. Just add water and that little rosette opens up into a flower. I tried Floral Crown and Lucky Fortune. I finally settled with Prosperity Dreams. Performance aspect and something to warmed my essence.
I remember coming in one time and there was this fellow named Jay who had so much interesting tidbits about tea. He was a friendly fellow. He recommended a mix for the dangerous "other", who was a little bit sick-- something to make her immune system stronger. She loved it. Jay even got me to buy a tea pot so my blossoming tea can have a stage. He apparently got a tea named after him. I'll be sure to try it next time.
Their supreme oolong is great too. I love that after taste.
But yeah-- was it the tea that calmed my storm? Or was it the dangerous "other" ? -

Got a gift-set for xmas and have been enjoying my Gogi-Longan tea almost daily since then! I decided to stop by the store on my last outing to Old Town and was supremely disappointed with the service. My friend and I waited patiently for about 10 minutes at the "Order here" sign awkwardly, as others around us walked up to the bar and ordered, and were helped. I finally said, "Can we order now?" since we weren't even addressed with a hello or "do you have any questions?"
Our tea was delicious though - I had a Pure Almond Black tea with soy milk and honey. I really wanted to love this place. The ambiance is lovely...incense burning, beautiful jars of exotic teas everywhere. But the service was outright poor. And it wasn't even really busy. Hope i'm pleasantly surprised on my next visit! -

Omg.
Was introduced to this place by my good friend and her sister. I mentioned wanting some iced tea and they immediately recommended me to Bird Pick. When I said I had never tried it, both their reactions were "WHAT?!"
By their recommendation, I got the LARGE lychee iced tea. Soooo gooooooood. And the real lychee on the bottom was the best little surprise ever!!!
I finished the whole thing (oops!). I also snagged a cute little green tea set for the boy-thing's family here. Yay! -

Love love love this place! I work down the street so I come here all the time! I've been a true bird pick fan/ regular since they opened a few years ago! The customer service is always great. They sure know how to make you feel special by knowing what you like to drink and how you like it ( granted you have to go there enough for them to know you). Anytime I have friends or clients in old town, I always take them here and they are addicted! My faves are lychee oolong with muddled mint and Gogi longan white. I also custom make some of my own creations.
If you like tea, this place is definitely a MUST!!! Trust me, you won't be disappointed! -

I stopped by for a special Christmas gift and was so glad I did!
The service here is really great - with such an assortment to pick from, I was lucky to find Kayla who listened to what I wanted and made the perfect recommendations!
Great customer service and great selection. -

The atmosphere in Bird Pick is so charming and quaint.
My cousin ordered the almond black milk tea and she really liked it.
I was asking about the Lychee Oolong and the Green Tea Lemonade, and the barista got really confused and made me the GT when I wanted the Oolong... whoops. They apologized and gave me both drinks for the price of one.
Score! Plus, the barista wasn't even grumpy about having to remake my drink.
Hooray for Bird Pick! -
Review from Joa K.
I think the location is better than the actual cafe. The teas are your standard quality. I took a detailed look at their teas for sale and they weren't bad. The drinks on the menu are a bit more unique than what you'd find at a regular/chain coffee shop. The service was perfectly fine. But nothing "memorable" or special like you might think from reading all the rave reviews.
The location is great. It's perfectly situated in a busy but quiet part of downtown/old Pasadena. It's rather romantic...
I would revisit this place only for their date-friendly/friend-friendly location. -

Great store - very helpful guys there and a wide selection of yummy teas and herbs. They also have a lot of different tea brewing supplies from strainers to tea pots. And the tea bar is cool. A cup of hot or iced is nice to enjoy while shopping there. Will definitely return for more stuff!

GREAT AWESOME CUTE [insert additional positive adjective(s) here] TEASHOP!
I was trying to kill time so I decided to stop in here for a Christmas gift. There's a lot going on here but I was quickly helped and shown around by a member of the crew. They have a variety of loose leaf teas as well as crystalline instant teas that they sell by the ounce. You can also ask to sample any of their teas and they will brew you a batch. There are a bunch of cute pre-built gift sets as well as build your own gift sets available. They have blooming teas as well as individual tea bags. They also have a bunch of dried snacks and a few high end honeys great for pairing with tea - available for sampling also. I ended up purchasing two sampler tea sets that were on sale for bogo 50% off, as well as a few bags of the hibiscus chews - yum! They wrapped up my gifts for me with tissue paper and everything! And with the recommendation of the staff, I also got myself an iced fusion "Lychee Oolong" tea to go - it was nice and refreshing, sweet but not too sweet, and came with a whole lychee - double yum! My drink was awesome, the tea selection is awesome, the service is awesome... I hope they create an afternoon tea type set-up or at least create a larger seating area so I can find an excuse to come here more... until then I'll have to wait until I find myself in OTP (:Listed in: Favorite Places of All-Time, Coffee&Tea, SHOP SHOP SHOP, Old Town Pasadena

I am obsessed with this place. I've been to all 3 locations (here, Santa Monica & Culver City) and all of amazing!
My drink of choice - Lychee Oolong. I'd like to meet whomever made up this concoction and give them a hug. It's probably one of my favorite drinks ever - more so than anything at Starbucks, Coffee Bean, etc. It's not too sweet and since it's a white tea, not too strong... just perfection.
I've also tried their Tropical Sunrise a few times and it's delicious, but doesn't hit the spot like the Lychee Oolong.
The staff is always friendly and talkative, willing to answer any questions. Also, they received started issuing stamp cards - I think after 10 cups, you'll earn a free drink. IT'S ABOUT TIME!
Now please open up more locations, preferably in my kitchen so I can drink my LO all day, every day. -

I really wanted to like this place, but it was slightly a put-down.
The rather weird baristas recommended the black almond, and well it was good but it had a powerful sweet almond flavor. I was hoping for something subtle because i was at a tea place.
But, the Tropical Sunrise is for those with a sweeter craving. They have interested iced tea fusions which is worth checking out. -
Review from David T.
So for some of those that haven't been to BP in a while, you'll notice sounding different when you go on next time.
The bar was closed for a period of time during September and I like a few others were really starting to go thorough withdrawals from our lack of our BP favorites. However, for those that haven't been on in the last 3 weeks you might not even.notice that changes that have occurred.
First the menu has been changed, no more pomegranate black. T the bar itself has been changed a bit (mostly behind the bar). Tons of new seating had been added to the place, and I've been told that a few of the merchandise tables are being removed. So now when you come with your friends you actually have more places to sit, by the bar like before, or on bar height tables along the windows for some people watching, there's even a few takes over by the windows where the loose teas use to be.
I haven't had a chance to just sit a hang out yet, but I'll be planning a game night there or something in the near future.
So for now, live well, but eat better.6 Previous Reviews: Show all »

What a fantastic tea experience Bird Pick creates. A true personification of customer service.
There were three of us stopping in to test out various teas. Ryan approached us and did not ever tire of providing excellent service. We tasted 12 different teas before sitting down with a pot of a 13th flavor. Ryan provided guidance, information and patience while handling all our questions. Of course we were on a mission. We were sampling teas to determine the best ones for my friend's coffee shop to offer. Ryan was edified with this information near the end of our tea journey and it only served to increase his commitment and dedication to ensuring our experience was both educational and positive.
Should you have a moment, stop by, sample a couple teas and then sit down with pot of a water & leaves you otherwise would not have known about. The experience of brewing a superior pot of tea with a friend/partner is almost as intimate as sharing a bottle of wine. Now where is my bottle? -

The best friend brought me here and I loved the decor of this place. We waited quite a while before someone took our orders. It's been a while so I can't remember what exactly I had, but I remember there was longan in it. I remember the tea seemed to be lacking of tea flavor. I'm normally not a big fan of tea infusions - my normal tea drinks at other tea shops are either honey green tea, chrysanthemum tea or honey milk green tea .
I do plan to give this place another shot. It was good, but not THAT good. -

I am kind of obsessed with several things in life. Stargazing, bonfires at the beach, black accessories with spikes, Alexander Wang, and dancing all night to Kaskade are just some of them. Bird Pick is another.
Their iced tea blends are absolutely phenomenal. The jasmine lemonade and lychee oolong are my favorites, definitely the most refreshing treat you can get on a hot summer day. In the mood for something more pure? Go ahead and choose from their huge variety of greens, blacks, whites, and non-caffeinated herbals and adjust your own sugar level. Salivating yet? Well, you should be!
Their hot drinks are also great, specifically the green tea latte which can be made with your choice of milk. Trust me, this stuff trumps most green tea lattes you can find at coffeehouses, because it's made with good quality matcha. The prices here are very reasonable, drinks run from about $3-$5 depending on what you order, tax included. For the quality of the tea though, I think it's worth every single penny. -

Though the employees at this place don't recommend mixing in mint leaves with green tea, I've never really listened to them. It's just that good!
Granted, I haven't gone through their entire tea selection yet, but most of the ones I've had were amazing. So far my favorites have been the mint green tea and the lychee oolong; taste-wise, they've stood out the most for me.
Definitely a place to stop by if you're ever in Old Town Pasadena! -

O.B.S.E.S.S.E.D! Apparently everybody and their mother loves the Lychee Oolong fusion tea and I am no exception. In fact I love it so much I came everyday during my long weekend to get some. Even with the guy behind the tea bar mumbling, "lychee oolong..that's what I make all day long" didn't annoy me. Well, he did a little but it's okay. I love lychee and I love oolong...it is a recipe for a winner and to be honest I will probably never order anything else from this place. If you're conscious of your sugar intake, ask for it unsweetened..I think it tastes better anyway.
The store is cute and stocked with tons of loose teas, tea sets and other cool tea-related items. I love the atmosphere and dropping by here. My only regret is not having to discover this place sooner when I purchased my tea pot. Perhaps with the summer coming up I can stock up on some iced tea ingredients/goodies..!Listed in: Life in Old Town Pasadena

Great tea collection, selection. Very well themed place, good design to go with the tea business. Very friendly and informative staff. This place is like a natural pharmacy, great herbs. I always try healing myself with herbs, tea, before I go for medicine. Prices are well incorporated with products so no complaints on that matter. Just a great store, rare these days.

Great iced fusions! I love the lychee oolong and the jasmine lemonade is delicious as well. If I'm ever in Pasadena with my friends, we always stop here. It is so nice to go to a real tea shop instead of the regular Starbucks or Coffee Bean.
One of the servers is a bit awkward but the girl means well. During our second encounter at the Bird Pick Tea & Herb, my friend and I noticed she had gotten a bit more sociable.
The price is very reasonable and its always fun to try new drinks. I will definitely be coming back here -

Los Angeles, CA
This was the original tea store that got me into tea. I thought all teas were suppose to be green, or the ones that they served at Dim Sum. Ohh, the young me..
Anyways, I loved their mint tea here. Amazing stuff! So, I parked across from De Lacey, you know the 90min free parking lot, and proceeded to walk over to Bird's Pick.
The tea-ista was uhm, awkward. I barely heard what she said and we gave each other awkward hellos with our eyes. That's cool, she's not sociable despite me trying to carry a conversation but then I might be the annoying customer who wants to talk. Meh, it was just me and her along with her co-worker while I watched her make the tea, a bit uncomfortable..
Proceeding on, Jackie recommended the orange-ade which was fine, but it was a bit lemony and the flavors didn't blend as well. She was nice enough to remake another drink, so I went with the cucumber mint white tea. Once again, the tea fell flat. The flavors weren't refreshing nor did I taste enough tea. The orange-aid tasted like water mixed in with crush oranges. The same went for the cucumber mint. The only mint I tasted was the one floating at the top with the cucumber. If I wanted cucumber, it'd be off a fruit truck with watermelon and the works.
Then, I realized it wasn't because of the drinks but because of her. Both drinks were bland. It made me crave the all corporate tea-vana drinks which has yet to fail me. That or the other worker, anyone but her, making my tea.
I was just going to stick with the orange-aid but even the boyfriend was not a fan, and he's a huge tea drinker. It was nice of her to redo it, but I'd rather have someone who can do it once and do it right.
If this was any time before today, I'd give it 4. But this experience alone made it a solid 3.
But you should definitely go and try the place, hopefully the person making your tea isn't having an off day. -

I love the tea and the decor! The tea is refreshing. I got a lychee oolong tea which was very refreshing. There was even a lychee inside which was great because it helped bring out the lychee flavor.
Next time I definitely want to try the tropical sunrise or pomegranate lemonade! -

On this hot, hot summer day, the LYCHEE OOLONG hit the spot! Refreshing, light, not too sweet. Iced PERFECTION.
Thanks for the recommendations everyone :)
I'll be back to try some of the other flavors, but it's gonna be hard to stay away from the lychee... -

ive walked past this place a couple of times, and i'll admit i havent gone in cuhs, it just seemed too prissy. like "oh look at me, i'm american but i'm trying to be healthy by drinking all these asian tea shits" i dunno, i drink enough tea at home, or boba shops... dim sum.. you know. So what did finally make me go in?
FLAX SEED cashews. haha. i'll admit. i'll be a snob when it comes to my snacks.... BUT FLAX SEED?! WITH CASHEWS?! i'm sold. gatta get me some fiber and lightly syrup coated cashews & since i'm in there... might as well order up a drink!
i ordered the lychee oolong tea. YUM. just refreshing enough, and the PERFECT amount of sweetness from the lychee. I even had two balls ( YUP! TWO BALLS) of lychees floating around my drink ;) canned or not! i'm delighted to eat lychee anyday.
this place is awesome, especially in the afternoons when the sunlight streams into the bar seating. OH. just like out of a movie! EVEN THE SOUND TRACK is spot on. sort of. it made me feel like i was at a Chinese wedding. Hahaha. -

Love Bird Pick! All about the ice lychee oolong + mint (1/2 sugar)!!
This is the OG Bird Pick and in my opinion the best one. I've been to the one in Santa Monica Place and frankly I don't think they make it the same and the girl who was helping me made me wait longer bc she was talking to a guy + made my drink super sweet!
Anyway, my friend/hairstylist from Salon Sessions, Angela Le, introduced me to this place. Super refreshing on a hot-hot-hot day. Love their tea selections. Staff is friendly and super helpful if you are looking for a particular tea.
It's off De Lacy across the 90mins free parking garage. Every time I'm in the area I try to grab a drink here. They have cute tea sets, pre packaged teas, or tubs of teas you and mix and match. They offer samples, too. -

This was a cute tea place near the Delacey parking structure (free 90 min parking!) by Buca di Beppo. I was looking for a boba/coffee shop and found this on Yelp.
It's very cute! They have free Wifi. Everyone was nice. And I tried the lychee oolong tea and it was very yummy and refreshing!
It was $3.50 for a regular, $3.75 for a large. You can pick your tea and choose a flavor to go along with it. They have a variety of teas and flavors. Very fresh and tasty.
They also sell tea cup sets, which could be a nice gift for someone who loves tea.
If you like tea, and want something cool and refreshing to satisfy your thirst, check this place out! :) -

Everyone her is well-trained in the loose leaf teas. I love getting samples. They put them in the cutest little bags, which will make about 4 cups of tea.
I had a tea party for my friend's baby shower, and I wanted a variety of teas. I bought eight teas, some black, some green and some herbal. It cost me about twenty dollars, but It served about eighteen people, and I still had some left over.
If you love tea like me, this is must-see. I highly recommend the European Rose tea. -

Wonderful place for tea!! Amazing selection of teas ( red/green/white/ herbal) and are of great quality! My favorites include pineapple dreams (sweet tropical flavors) and high grade china white tea (delicate aroma and taste packed with antioxidants). I have not yet tried any teas from their tea bar but I hear they are wonderful!! Some of them I'm excite to try is the jasmine lemonade and oolong tea!!

I went to this place a while ago, like almost a year I think? it's a lovely lovely little place and on that particular day, a day that I was dying of thirst after hours spent in Forever 21 with my teenage sister, it was like a heavenly oasis on a hot day spent walking around Old town Pasadena.
I walked in requesting a simple bottled water when they offered me a sample of tea. I forgot which one I tried... but the one I actually ordered was the chrysanthemum iced tea.
I had previously only tried canned chrysanthemum tea but this was fresh and delicious, like nothing else. I love this place I want to go back many times and enjoy the tranquil atmosphere and great customer service. -

Canoga Park, CA
I love tea and everything that has to do with it. So I was really excited to try this place! My sister bought some of their tea at a random tea shop and were surprised that they had actual stores making and selling their teas!
I have to say that... the tea that they make is STRONG. If you don't like strong, super flavorful tea, you might not like the tea that they make at this store. I got some kind of minty green tea and I liked it to an extent. But I am still a fan of this store and the drinks they make.
I do have to say... that it takes a while for them to make good tea. So if there's a long line ahead of you, I would go somewhere else to get a drink.
