Birch Hills Golf Course

9 reviews for Birch Hills Golf Course
Birch Hills Golf Course is a decent little executive course. I can say this, even after donating 5 balls to the massive lake on the back nine. It's good for kids, but expect to be under the watchful eye of the marshal if you do have a youngster with you.
The course was not in very good shape. Divot marks were all over the place. I would have expected to find the course in better condition for how much the round cost. The cart cost was also pretty steep.
I would go back to golf with relatives in OC, but I probably won't be making the 2 hour drive just to golf at Birch Hills.

Good course for the money...but that's about it. Decent size and not too difficult to play on, even though I always have difficulty here. Like Tim said, watch out for the lake on the back nine. The course is usually open during the weekdays. The people at the front office don't really look stoked or excited to be there, but hell, just pay and leave to the first hole.
Sometimes you'll have groups holding you up, so be patient if you're planning to go there on a weekend.

Fun Course with the friendliest staff. Pretty easy course with a lake in the back 9 that is a magnet for golf balls. Not too many long holes - a lot of par 3's so if you're looking for a fast game for a good price, this is the course.
You can always count on one thing with golf courses. It all starts with the front desk. So one day I was going to hit balls, then I thought maybe I should go play around. So I go to the front desk and the young lady working there was counting money from the register. She did NOT even acknowledge me. She didn't even glance up and I was standing right in front of her. No "Hold on for a minute" or "Give me a sec" or "Someone will help you in a second".
I know a lot of golfers in the area are Asian and probably don't speak the language well nor know the customs. And this is a problem at many golf courses when you see Asians or any minority of limited speaking ability being treated rudely. So on with the story, it was possibly two minutes later until someone else came in and decided to help me. The rude young lady at the desk didn't say anything else and just went back to work.
As the self proclaimed LA/OC/Desert golf guru, this is one place I don't really recommend unless I was really drunk. I'll play this course again, I'll get really drunk and I'm going to drive my cart on your greens and engrave my name "J O E Y" on the greens as well. Golf is a classy game and course management all starts with the front desk.
The course is okay. Too many hackers and duffers though.

A fun executive golf course or short course.
If you're getting into golf, this is a good beginners course. Or a seasoned vet working on the approach. Its a little tricky, so its not some slob's 18 hole. The front starts out easy, a few 300 yd holes and bunkers on either sides. Then the back 9s have a few water hazards to watch and bunkers are challenging. Its a total of 3500 yds. The facilities are well kept, nice staff, carts / walk and drink girl rides around the course.
I always like coming here after suffering a long week of deskitis.

I work in Brea and look forward to playing here about twice a month. The course is well kept and extremely player friendly even on the bunker and water hazard holes. Billy Casper manages this course and it couldn't be run more efficiently. Try the lunch special...bucket of balls and a hamburger with chips and soday for $8...
To the lady that was upset with the $7 fee for riding...learn to play ...your experience will be much better if you participate.

I would say this place is the Pebble Beach of executive courses. Ok...maybe not, but they keep their grounds well kept and plenty of water hazards and bunkers to make the course pretty challenging for people at the beginner level (as well as players at a slightly higher level). I work literally across the street from this place so I'm able to leave work at around quarter 'til 5 and be able to play 18 holes.
I usually go on thursdays but I just got a new set of clubs and have been dying to use 'em so I decided to go today. I was able to get 18 holes in and I had as much fun as I did the first time I played on this course. So far, I'm still pretty excited about this place, but it's slowly wearing on me. As with any golfer, or anyone that gets better at something as time passes by, they'll move on to bigger and better things. When I do, I'll still look back at the $9 rounds and remember that this was the place that started it all.

Fun little course to work on your game without the stress of holes being too challenging. Great for beginners making the transition to 18 hole courses. Tee boxes were not that great, divots everywhere. Fairways were decent, sand is thin, and greens are good, just a few ball marks here and there. Water comes into play on a couple holes in the back 9. Price is a few bucks more than expected for this type of course, but it is Brea, so you pay the OC premium. Enjoyable course for the higher handicapper and goes at a good pace.
The people who work here are VERY rude. They also charged me $7 to ride in the golf cart with my boyfriend ( I wasn't playing) and told me I wasn't even allowed to get out of the cart! There is also some creepy old man who follows you around, which is rather annoying. Don't waste your money playing here.
