Since I am not a coffee drinker, my wife has been teaching me to appreciate coffee shops in our first year of marriage. I really like the Bipartisan Cafe because:
(a) it has an open floor plan with lots of great seating options
(b) it has free WiFi
(c) it has yummy sandwiches
(d) it serves Stumptown coffee, which makes the wife happy
(e) it has a fun political theme and pushed to increase voter registration.

We spent an afternoon studying here once and really enjoyed the experience. I'd definitely like to visit again... perhaps before our next visit to the Academy.

Ok, I admit the coffe is good, the bagels decent, the the loud ass kids running around while their parents ignore them is a huge drawback.
It's great to have a kid friendly place. But these parents took it to a whole new level. There wree kids running around with sticky jelly hands touching everything, throwing toys and screaming. I didn't see one parent even look up from their paper or breakfast. Damn, man..wrangle your kids in!

If you do not get yourself an AM Bagel, you are doing yourself an injustice.  Add avocado, add prosciutto if you're feeling frisky, and commence eating bliss.  I have always wanted to find a coffee place where I truly feel comfortable staying and enjoying and this is it.  Some people complain about the mom's and their kids, but it makes it feel like a reunion of friends and family.  Great coffee, PIE (need I say more?), and bagel sandwiches to kill for make this a weekend must. It's located in Montavilla and if the mood strikes you, the Academy Theater is across the street and is playing a $3 movie in a beautifully restored building.

This place has the best coffee and bagel sandwiches in town! I once lived close to here and it was a morning ritual. Now I've moved farther away and on those rare occasions I'm on that side of town I always find a reason to stop. The thing about this place you do have to know, however, is that this is traditional Portland style hippie service with an attitude. In other words, don't expect anything quickly and don't expect a smile. They will give you your tasty Stumptown coffee and yummy gooey bagel sandwich, but they will do so when they damned well feel like it. Another quirky element of this place is the political memorabilia for about every president you can imagine strewn about the place- very cool indeed.

Deeeee-licious Stumptown coffee, beautiful pastries and pies, fun and funky atmosphere, WiFi and comfy couches.... hell, I don't need anything else in life, really.

They are extremely kid-friendly there.  And someday, when I have kids, I'll be glad about that.  For now - HEY PARENTS!!! It's not okay for your kids to throw toys all over the entire place! Other people are reading, talking, and otherwise enjoying themselves.

The only thing that makes me sad about Bipartisan is that it is my neighborhood coffee shop (although not the closest to my house), and I go there with some frequency.  And although the same person waits on me every single time, I am still waiting for a glimmer of recognition, a sincere greeting, a "Large coffee to go?".... SOMETHING.

I guess I just want to feel loved, in addition to well-fed and caffeinated.

Is that too much to ask?

I used to work here. No, not as in "I used to be employed by them" but, I used to work here via WiFi. My productivity rose in direct proportion to the amount of Stumptown I consumed! I got berry pie stains on my laptop! I saw God!!**

**well, maybe not, but you might possibly enjoy a nice piece of home baked pie here, a cuppa Stumptown, a nice sandwich and the WiFi.

Bipartisan Cafe is a a great neighborhood coffee place for the growing Montavilla pocket.  Capitalizing on their niche interests of politics and pie, you can expect to find neighbors discussing recent politics and good, big, slices.

Plenty of couches and comfortable places to sit.  And pie, of course!

I love Bipartisan! I can always find a seat either on a big comfy couch or at a little table. I love that I found a place that serves and sell Stumptown in my hood.

A great damn place, if only because they serve up pie, and make it a point of pride to do so.  I once saw a quote on a menu chalkboard that read something like this:

"Pie is the food of the heroic.  A pie-eating nation can never be vanquished." -New York Times, 1903.

Now, if you love pie like I love pie, tell me with a straight face that you've ever seen a better pie-related quote than that.  My only gripe with this place, and the reason it's not five stars, is two-fold.  I guess that makes it two gripes.  A) Not enough padded seats.  If you're staying hours, your ass is gonna regret it unless you land one of the good chairs.  B) In the AM the place is overrun with moms and their little kids.  I love both moms and kids, but in a coffee shop, it doesn't exactly make for a productive reading atmosphere.

The food is damn good.  The pie is even better.  I don't drink coffee, so I can't comment.

This coffee house has everything - free wifi, tons of space and seating, and a huge menu with tons of breakfast items, sandwiches, sweets, and drinks.  The shop even has community conversations on political topics every Wednesday night, although I haven't attended one yet.
