La Honda, CA
I was headed up to Tahoe for a nice relaxing weekend and to celebrate my girlfriends birthday and i thought what a better way to relax than to surprised her with a couples massage.
I called a week before and booked an appt time and they were very nice over the phone. When we arrived we had to fill out a small form and it did not take us very long. we were offered water and the atmosphere in the location was very quite and calming. We were then asked if we wanted to soak in the eucalyptus wet sauna which i was not informed about prior but we accepted and at no cost which was a very nice bonus.
After our soak in the sauna we were escorted to the couples room which was very spacious unlike other couples massage rooms i have been to which are normally very cramped. The massage was great the right amount of pressure was applied not too much but not too little, And she worked on the spots i asked her ahead of time a little bit more than usual.
The massage was very relaxing and lasted a long time. (i almost thought we were going over the 50 mins)
Afterwards i paid (which is always nice to pay after a service) and left a tip for the massage.
Overall i had a great experience and when i go back to Tahoe will be going back to BioSpirit for a massage again. -

Went her for the couples massage with my girlfriend. The two masseuses (Midge and Coco) clearly knew what they were doing and do it well. The pride in their work shows. We got everything you would expect from a high end massage. The ONLY complaint we had was a little noise in the hallway. That said, we would definitely go back.
And if you happen to see a deal at Serenity Spa for a $135 couples massage, don't do it. DO NOT DO IT. See my review of this same date. -

I like to pamper myself with a massage while on vacation, so after looking at the positive reviews on Yelp, I decided to schedule an 80 minute relaxing massage here. I arrived a little early, so I took advantage of the steam room/shower before my massage. Not knowing the protocol here, I was a little hesitant to disrobe for the shower as the door opens toward the hall in front of the front desk, but I quickly rinsed after a nice steam. The massage I received was excellent, and the therapist was quite good at finding my pressure points and very nearly put me to sleep before the end of the back massage. The remainder of the massage was just wonderful as well. The only things stopping me from giving the full 5 stars is the awkward placement of the steam/shower area - not knowing whether the steamroom/shower area was completely private or if others might enter while I was in there and that my therapist was also slightly rushed when she first came in, forgetting to introduce herself and didn't adjust my positioning on the table, but she soon overcame the initial missteps and gave me a great massage.
I would definitely go back and try them again if I am in the mood for a massage while in the South Lake Tahoe area. -

For me, A vacation isn't complete without a spa treatment and Biospirit made my vacation complete! This is a day spa not a resort spa where you bring your book, sit in the "atmosphere" and relax BUT if you go to those fancy resort spas for the pampering treatments.....THIS IS THE PLACE IN SOUTH LAKE TAHOE YOU WANT TO GO. Coco gave a superb massage applying perfect long pressured strokes that were enhanced with the use of lotion & body butter instead of oil - a great treat! Trish gave the most wonderfullest facial I have ever had!!!-very relaxing and because skin care is a passion of mine I recognized right away how knowledgeable she is. If you're on vacation in S.L.Tahoe I recommend going early in the week because you just might want to go back again, I know I'm thinking about it. :)
(I also noticed in the other YELP reviews this is where the locals go AND they were voted BEST IN TAHOE) -

When I first went to South Lake Tahoe with friends I wanted a massage. I found Shannon's Day Spa - now known as Bio Spirit and I was in love. My massage was wonderful as was my facial. Even though the name has changed as with the owner, I always make this spa my first stop. I am going on 3 years of returning to this spa and I get very exited to make my appointment. Teresa the owner, & all of her staff are extremely professional and make you feel very relaxed. If you are ever in South Lake Tahoe and need to unwind, I highly recommend Bio Spirit.

I booked a 2 hour treatment at this spa after reading other good yelp reviews....which were right on! This is a cute little place had the best service you could ask for. I had the "body and sole" 2 hour treatment which was a body scrub, anti-stress massage, and foot scrub/massage all in one. It was honestly the best massage experience I have ever had! Michael is a truly talented massage therapist. Make sure you get there a bit early so yo can hang out in the eucalyptus steam room. I highly recommend Biospirit to anyone looking for a great massage in the south lake tahoe area.

I'm a bit of a spa junkie and have been lucky enough to visit a few world-class destination spas. BioSpirit is my home base and it holds its own against the big names.
The best deal has to be the Double Delight, a one-hour massage followed by a one-hour facial for $150. You can't beat the price anywhere else on the lake.
The staff here is incredibly welcoming and warm. Teresa, the owner, greeted me by name the second time I met her, which made me feel like a VIP (even though I'm not). In particular, Jennifer is a miracle body worker. Her massages leave me feeling like a new person. She has great energy and is very responsive to requests for more or less pressure. Ask her for a scalp massage -- it is transformative. When my mom visited with me, she was booked with Coco and reported it was one of the best massages she's ever enjoyed. But even with a ringing endorsement like that, I can't bear to stray from Jennifer.
For facials, Corrine is tops. She uses the full Dermalogica line with some fun toys (like the Clarisonic) and does a killer exfoliation. Even without extractions, my skin looks amazing for days after an appointment with her.
I live moments from the Hyatt Stillwater Spa and would still rather drive 40 minutes for the chance to go to BioSpirit. There is literally nothing that feels better than skiing all morning, getting some lunch at Sprouts up the street, and popping into BioSpirit for an afternoon of relaxing. -

This place used to be under a different name (Shannon's Day Spa) about 2 years ago, I believe. I went there 2 months ago and the year before. I think I've started a new tradition of dropping by Biospirit whenever I'm in Tahoe...
They have this awesome massage called the Lava Shell massage. Instead of Hot Stones, they use lava shells, which are super smooth! The person you should go see is Coco. You won't be disappointed with her magical massage! -

Coco is the best massage therapist here, I strongly recommend asking for her when booking your massage. The ladies who do facials are all really good too. The facility is nice as well.

Well before our trip to Tahoe, I researched on Yelp the best massage therapists in the Tahoe area. Between the reviews here and Biospirit's website, I was sold.
I had the Double Delight which is a 1 hour massage followed by a 1 hour facial. Vicky did my massage and she was fantastic! She incorporated hot stone which I had never experienced before and it was so relaxing. Plus, she noticed my janky cracked heels and hooked them up!
After that I saw Corrine and she really re-moisturized my face, which was so dry from being in the altitude and cold. It felt like my skin took a drink of water. Her technique was relaxing and my face felt and looked so much better.
I wish I lived closer so that I could frequent this place more often. But I WILL be making an appointment every time I'm in the area. And next time, the husband is going to take a snowboarding break to get some massage time in too! -

Pros:
~Called last minute and they fit me in 2 hours later for a massage & steam.
~Very accommodating. They will do what it takes to ensure you enjoy your time there.
~They have an excellent private steam/shower and make sure everyone in the spa gets a private session either before or after their treatment.
~Deep tissue massage with Coco was top-notch.
~Reasonably priced treatments.
~Receptionist hooked me up with a ton of Dermalogica samples!
Cons:
~This is not a Burke Williams. No whirlpools, saunas or relaxation rooms.
~The place is small and I could hear what was going on at the reception desk outside my treatment room.
All in all, I had an excellent couple of hours relaxing and working out the kinks from playing in the snow. Highly recommended!! -

I returned again to Biospirit Massage Therapy, this time with my Mom and Aunt. We had a wonderful girls afternoon at this lovely place. My Mom had a gentle, relaxing massage with Teresa. Mom looked like she was walking on a cloud afterward! She has some back issues and Teresa was careful to ask her medical history. My Aunt had an equally terrific massage with Jennifer. My Aunt said , the effects lasted all through the day and I slept like a baby." I had Michael as my masseur. He communicated well both before and during the session about what type of body work I expected. He has a very nice touch, with complete professionalism.
Of note, the waiting area is tastefully done, and the rooms feel really private. The session started on time, and I did not feel rushed.
I will definitely be back, the next time I am in South Lake Tahoe! If I can trust these folks with my Mom, they've got to be good.1 Previous Review: Show all »

My mom and I are on a mother/daughter week and wanted to make sure we were relaxed. The staff was very nice and professional. They made us very comfortable when we arrived offering the eucalyptus steam room, water and magazines while we waited for our appointments to begin.
I had a custom massage( which consisted of a 30 min massage and 25 min foot fantasy) I was very relaxed after. My mom received the deep pore facial and her skin looked beautiful. We were both very happy with our experience here and will make sure to come back next time we are in town. -

Loved this place and would definitely return! We are on vacation and high winds prevented us from skiing today (Valentine's Day) so we sought spa services. Found this place on Yelp and tried it based on the ratings and the proximity to our condo...we were so glad that we chose Biospirit. They were able to find concurrent appointments for my husband and me this afternoon on only a few hours notice.
We were welcomed into the spa like old friends and asked if we wanted to start with the steam room (high quality, professional grade, AND included in the price). I had a facial with Judy - a wonderful experience and Judy was so helpful in counseling me about my skin. My husband had a massage with Midge which he thought was excellent (and he is someone who frequently gets massages).
Everyone we encountered was so hospitable. Check it out...you won't be sorry! -
Review from Samantha S.

This review was originally going to be posted upon my husband and I returning home from our Honeymoon. However, I contacted the owner in an effort to resolve this issue. It has now been over a month since her last email that basically said "Let me get back to you in a few days". Since there has been no response or even desire to attempt to resolve the issue - I am submitting the review with only 1 star. If it were possible to do NO stars, I would.
So, my husband and I went in on Valentine's Day after a long weekend on the slopes. We opted for the couple's massage. The wait was not too long. We were offered water to drink while waiting. Once they were ready for us, we were led into a large room that looked like it could be separated with the curtain between the 2 tables. Now I can't speak for his massage - except that he said it was "fine". However, my massage was less than desirable. I specifically put on my intake form that I just wanted a relaxation massage - no deep tissue, no hot stone, nothing special. I was just a bit tense and sore from skiing all weekend. Michael was the massage therapist that I was put with and when we talked, I again stated that I didn't want anything fancy, no deep tissue - just a nice, basic massage. He said he understood. Then he came back in and went to work on me. The pressure started out "ok" and after a while (when he heard the other therapist ask my husband), he asked if the pressure was ok. I said it was. However, apparently he didn't understand that. The pressure started getting harder and harder. I told him the pressure was too hard and he backed off and then got rough again. I said "OW" when he was massaging my back and he apologized and lightened up, but again, was right back to too rough again. I wanted to get up and leave, and had I been there by myself, I probably would have. But since my husband was also there with me, I didn't want to make him feel bad, so I stayed. When we finished, I commented how I loved that he had massaged my scalp (and shockingly, was so light with his touch) and so many people neglect the scalp in a full body massage.
The next day I woke up and my back was SO sore! My husband looked at my back and said there was a HUGE red welt on it! It looked like I had been bitten by something. Since we were flying home the next day to Texas, I called my dermatologist and made an appointment. When I went to the dermatologist, it turns out it wasn't a bite at all. It was a cyst that had ruptured (as a result of the massage) and I needed to get it removed ASAP. However, since it had ruptured, I needed to do 2 weeks of antibiotics before they could actually cut it out. They lanced it to relieve the pressure and made an appt for 2 weeks. Two weeks later, they cut it out and I had to have stitches (7 to be exact) and those would need to stay in for another 2 weeks.
So when I got an email from Teresa asking about my experience and to let her know if the visit was "less than perfect" - I figured someone needed to know what I had been through! That's when I emailed Teresa and told her of the situation. It took her almost a week to respond to my initial email. To which she said she wanted to speak with Michael and she would get back to me "in a few days". That was on March 15th. I sent her a follow-up email on 4/5 and still have yet to get a response. Clearly, the owner cares only about the bottom line - her cash flow. She has shown no concern for her customers or what I had to go through as a result of her therapist.
So, in a nutshell - AVOID THIS PLACE LIKE THE PLAGUE!!! Although the front office staff was very nice and friendly - the owner clearly has no concern for her customers!!Comment from Teresa B. of BioSpirit 4/8/2011

Review from Susan D.
So back in Febuary, I went up to South Lake Tahoe to do a lil boarding at Kirkwood. As a surprise, my date thought I might be need of a massage so on day while driving around, he brought ne to Shannon's for a surprise massage that he had scheduled. What a nice surprise. :) Unfortunately, this is one time when I feel Yelper's have been a lil misleading.
After having many vacation massages, I might have elevated expectations of 'day spas' so when I say I wasn't very impressed by Shannon's, you can take that how you want. The prices were normal to high but the facilities were much less than expected from such a high rating and higher pricing. In fact, I felt kinda uncomfortable being in the steam/shower room naked... because it's door opened directly to the public hallway. You could even hear people talking while steaming... how do they juggle people in and out when they're busier?
That being said, Coco and Jennifer are nice enough and gave good massages... but for the prices, I'd have expected nicer facilities or at least the inexpensive little things that other spas offer like q-tips, a comb, spray deodorant, etc., to help me get ready for dinner after my massage. They had none of it... none, really. And how about a curtain on the window in the changing room?
I probably will try to find another spa the next time I want a massage in S.Lake Tahoe. The massages were good but they missed on the little touches that keep me going back to a place and the facilities that help you relax before and after.
Really... I couldn't comb my hair after the shower.because they didn't have a comb or pick in the whole building. And my ears stayed wet from the shower! Guess it's a bring your own gear kinda place... too bad I went for a surprise. Even if I hadn't though, there are certain things most spas just have...
Won't see ya there!Comment from Teresa B. of BioSpirit 7/7/2010

I was lured in by the Double Delight package (facial and massage for $150), which is a great deal for this area. I arrived 30 minutes prior to my appointment expecting to use the steam room for a bit, but I was told all there appointments were running late, and as a result, there was a wait to use the steam room. So I just ended up waiting in the lobby for amost 1 hour!!
The esthetician was friendly enough and she didn't go overboard with the product sales, which I really appreciated. But she poked and prodded my skin a little too hard. I still have scars on my chin even a week after the facial.
The massage room is actually one big room that is separated into compartments by a curtain. There was a man getting a massage right next to me and I could hear all their chit chat the whole time. How can anyone relax? I felt like I was getting massaged in a cubicle.
I will not be returning here and do not recomment this place.Comment from Teresa B. of BioSpirit 3/24/2011

The not so great first......I was thrilled with the atmosphere. I like to enjoy the quiet relaxing atmosphere at the spa and Bio spirit didn't really have that going for it. The "quiet" room had the only bathroom in it and no coverings on the window. So it was hard to relax with an open window to the street when you are sitting there in a robe.
The massag room had a window covering but it let a lot of light i and I prefer the rooms to be a "quiet" space. The front desk was across the hall and i could hear people talking and coming and going through my 80 minute massage.
Now the good.....Trish! I had an 80 minute facial and 30 minute body scrub add on with Trish and she is amazing.
The scrub resulted in better results than I had anticipated. My skin is always so dry in Tahoe and with the scrub and body butter that followed I was shocked at how good my skin felt.
I have had many facials and this may have been the best one to date. I have "problematic" skin and usually end up leaving the spa feeling worse about it. Trish explained everything to me (even more than my derm does) and I left feeling good about myself. She explains all the products and recommends them without trying to force a sale. I will definitely return for another facial on my next visit.
If you are going for a facial or body treatment, ask for Trish you will be glad you did! -

This is the only thing I truly researched before my trip to S. Lake Tahoe and I'm so glad I ended up at Shannon's Day Spa. Now to me 'day spa' is a bit of a misnomer because it is not a full service spa, but what they do they do exceptionally well.
I ended up choosing a 50 minute anti-stress massage (rather than 80 minutes) and was concerned it wouldn't be enough time to completely relax and work through all the knots in my back. But my masseuse, Christina, was thorough and I felt like every part of my body was covered. Seriously, no stone was left unturned and I don't mean that in a salacious way. She struck a perfect balance of checking in and making sure the pressure was just right and that I was comfortable without being chatty. I just blissed out.
They do not have a jacuzzi or sauna, but do have a shower and steam room. I developed a deep appreciation for a good steam in Europe and so it was a wonderful way to extend the experience and ring out every last bit of tension in my body. I highly recommend it. The only problem is that there is only one room, so I suppose in certain cases you may need to wait for your turn, but that wasn't an issue for me.
I went with friends and since we chose different massages, a couple of us finished early. The staff made us comfortable while we waited and also recommended the Blue Angel Cafe just across the street and then they sent our friend over when he was finished. Our waitress at the cafe ended up being one of Shannon's staff members as well. It was a great all around small community kind of feeling.
The irony is that I managed to throw my back out in a bizarre Super Bowl cooking accident after I returned from my trip. Wish Shannon's wasn't so far away...Listed in: Tahoe Time

Had a 70 minute stress reducing massage at Shannon's for $110. I chose this place after doing my research and looking at the Yelp reviews.
The place was very clean, and the staff was friendly. The massage I had from Coco was very, very relaxing. Lied on a heated massage table with nice soft surrounding music. Pure bliss for the time I was there.
They have many different services. Perhaps a little pricier than others, but definitely worth it. Like they say, you get what you pay for.

No frills spa - no fancy waiting room, no fancy pool and steam rooms, and no fancy dressing room. This place was right down the street from the cabin Euge and co. arranged. Em and I went here while everyone else went to have fun in the snow. Shannon's shares space in a small commercial building; I believe the other occupant is a dentist but don't quote me. Anyway, it's nothing fancy, but who cares. We were assigned Coco and Lydia as our massage therapists for our 80 minute anti-stress massage. We both agreed that this was the best massage we had ever gotten. They both applied perfect pressure and found all the right spots to work out. I felt drained at the end of the session but rejuvenated. Highly recommended if you're looking for a great massage.
It would be icing on the cake if they added all the fancy steam rooms, showers, pools, etc, but it's not needed. -

Came here based on the good Yelp reviews, and was happy we came. Very cute little place, impressive inside, and smelled great!
I got the prenatal massage from Jennifer - she is awesome! Very sweet and asked me questions some therapists tend to forget: any allergies, skin sensitivities, areas to work on, how's the pressure. She didn't talk too much during the session, which I love. And she put just enough pressure to make the massage worthwhile.
What made it great was they had those special preggo pillows, with a hole for the belly and holes for the boobage. It was sooooo comfortable getting off my back for a proper massage - wish I could have taken those pillows home!
I have to disagree with some yelpers who said it's pricey. Try getting a massage anywhere else in the bay area, at a resort, or hotel, and an hour will cost you at least $100. The prices here were pretty reasonable, at least for the service you get. I would LOVE to come back next time I'm preggo in Tahoe!! -
Review from Mark H.

I found this place via Yelp and was very pleased with the services. Thank you to YELPERS for their previous reviews.
Shannon's Day Spa is not the CHEAPEST place in town, but it was reasonable and the staff was very professional. The facilities are excellent; modern, comfortable and clean. As mentioned in other reviews, this is not a resort-type day spa and they don't have a pool or whirlpool bath on site, just a wet steam sauna and shower. They also had room temp drinking water, which might not have been so bad if it had lemon or cucumber in it. I prefer cold water, which they did not have.
We both had the "double delight" (@ $150 per person, extra $ for deep tissue massage and specialty facial treatments); a 1 hour massage and 1 hour facial. The facial was 2 stars.. maybe 2 1/2 stars, I've certainly had better, but the aesthetician was pleasant. It was a "mini-facial" at best. I have had 1 hour facials that were really intensive and afterward, meh, I didn't really feel any difference.
The massages were very good (4 1/2 to 5 stars). Both masseuses were very in-tune with our bodies and gave personalized massage sessions, focusing on problem areas and showing great care. I agree with other reviewers that noted the massage room was a tad too bright, but the curtain across the ceiling does add a nice soft "pillowy" feel to the room.
FWIW, 1 hour is 50 minutes in "spa time." I know some places give you a 60 minute hour, but you will find MOST spas will short you 10 minutes and it is no different here. We countered that by arranging to arrive 30 minutes early, so we could relax and soften up our muscles in their wet steam sauna prior to the massages. I recommend that.
The pros:
Good massages.
Steam room.
Clean, quiet, comfortable atmosphere.
Accommodating, professional staff.
Convenient private parking.
The cons:
Higher than average prices.
Bright massage rooms.
Lack of cold drinking water.
The bottom line: We would (and likely will) go here for services again. -

I don't know why people say this place isn't fancy schmancy? I think the words they might be looking for are casual sheik. The place is small but decorated very nice and upscale. When my friend and I walked in we were greeted by Shannon who was pleasant and wayy friendly.
I got the body scrub, steam room, and hour massage.. all done by Jennifer R. who was awesome! The scrub itself was great, and the steam right after felt spectacular. After my sauna I slipped back into the room for my massage which was fantastic. I didn't mind telling her when to add more pressure or anything cause I felt extremely comfortable with her and thats important. I also liked the music as it wasn't the typical foresty flutes, but was still very relaxing and not too quiet.
The only negative I would give Shannon's is the location of the steam room. It is at the end of the hallway which everyone sees when they enter their private room. The glass was frosted but you could still see body movements through it. Maybe a curtain should be hung in front of it for modesty sake. It didn't bother me but I'm sure everyone caught a glimpse of my fab silhouette. Hahaha -

I followed Shannon's to their new location after getting an amazing massage from Coco a couple years back. Sorry it's taken so long to return! Having had such an awesome previous experience, I knew this time would be no different.
I started with a Body glow scrub with I think Corinne. The scrub was ok. I must say I've had better. Corinne was late for the appointment, but then again, it was snowing pretty badly that day, so I completely understand. When I started my treatment, Corinne seemed a little confused and disoriented, so it did not make for a smooth treatment. Scrub was a 4 star scrub, not quite a 5.
Steam shower - 5 stars! AWESOME
Reason for 5 stars? MIDGE! I had Midge for a couple's hot stone massage with my husband, who had Coco. Midge was awesome. Just the right amount of pressure. I dozed off a few times. My husband loved his massage as well. He actually started snoring for a minute.
All in all, a very relaxing day. Will definitely be back the next time I need a post snowboarding rub down. -
Review from Jenn G.
I'm no spa expert, and that's perhaps why I really like Shannon's.
I received 2 treatments as a gift, and really appreciated the friendly, low-key vibe the place has. Staff were very friendly, and the location, while not enormous, is cozy and clean. It's located in an office building, which might seem odd to some more experienced spa-goers, but I didn't find the noise/drilling issues that the other reviewer noticed.
My two treatments, a foot massage and a facial, were both awesome. I'm now a facial convert, and loved that Corinne was super gentle, as I have both allergies & sensitive skin.
The foot massage was great, but I was not wise in my scheduling and chose to do it at lunch, making the return to work very very difficult. Note to self - massages only at the end of day.
Overall some place I'd return to (even on my own dime!) and have no trouble recommending. -

A spur of the moment referral I was in desperate need of a healing massage after riding a 129 mile bike ride in the Sierras. Casha took good care of me even using a healing sports gel - Sombra.

Thank you Yelp for leading me to Shannon's! Day Spa is a bit of an overstatement, because I don't think there's enough room for more than two people to spend a day there!
BUT from the moment I walked in, I felt welcomed and ready to relax. Had a fab massage from Coco, who also was voted Best of Tahoe for Best Masseuse along with Shannon's for Best Spa. Considering the luxury accomodations at Lake Tahoe that is a significant win for them.
Coco, Shannon & the rest of Shannon's splendid team members are exceptional, professional, and talented, as well as friendly, warm & caring.
Make your appointment when you make your trip reservations. I'll plan all of my Tahoe visits around my appointments at Shannon's! -

Michael Graves. The best. Amazing. If you are in Tahoe, please go and see Michael at Biospirit. Its not a luxury, its a necessity. Its a real gift to find a body worker who loves what he does and works from the heart. Thanks Michael!

Very nice location. Friendly, clean. Had my first lava stone massage. I am very happy with the service. I came to tahoe wanting to relaxed..i was very relaxed after the massage. My boyfriend had teh deep tissue massage and he enjoyed the experience. I sat in the steam room afterwards and it was amazing.
One thing.. they are located under a dentist office. I heard some drilling. Lesson learned..next time i'm going there on a weekend. I will def. come back again. :) -

I was visiting my in-laws (who live in Tahoe) and my mother-in-law booked a facial for me with Trish Tomer. Hands down one of the best facial experiences I've ever had! Trish was absolutely amazing. She was gentle, knowledgable about my skin and the products she was using and all around a wonderful esthetician. I used to work at a salon and have had my fair share of facials -- this was truly a one-of-a-kind experience :-) I would highly recommend that you book an appointment with Trish the next time you find yourself in South Lake :-) I'm already planning my next visit!

My wife and I had an amazing couples massage here. The settings are intimate and cozy, much more personable than the larger resorts. The staff is welcoming and accommodating. We were able to get a same day appointment. The private steam room was fantastic and included in the price of our service. It was exactly what we were looking for. We left feeling more relaxed than we can remember.
